Beautiful carriage after beautiful carriage came to a stop outside the lit up house. The circular driveway was filled up with carriages of different colors and sizes, Lidia’s light green one was three away from the front steps and she wanted to hop out and walk the rest of the way. However, she knew that attending this party were the richest and most prominent families that were well-known all around the world. She couldn’t do something that would make her look anything less than amazing. She waited as the carriage was pulled up, waited almost five minutes before they moved again and finally she found herself seeing the door open for her. There was a man in a waistcoat holding his hand out for hers, when she took it she heard a strange growling noise come from Remus which made her smile because it meant that he was jealous which made her feel good for some reason. They walked in to the house and looked around, it was almost completely different then when she had visited before. There was a man standing by the door, he looked at his roster and then raised his head high, clearing his throat and speaking clearly and loudly.
“Miss Lidia Granger and her date Mr. Remus Lupin” He announced and it seemed as if everyone in the whole house stopped and looked at the couple in the doorway. She smiled at them and with her hand in Remus’s they were led down the hall towards the ball room where the most noise came from.
“It feels as if we should be in the 1800’s” Lidia whispered as they walked through the staring crowd and took a spot against the far wall. Everyone seemed to know everyone else and she was very happy that Remus was with her because if she were alone she would have been hiding in another room by now.
“Ladies and gentlemen” The man from the front hall called out from the doorway “The hosts of this evening” He stepped to the side and waved in the beautiful family “Lord Lucius Malfoy” The regal man in a black suit swept in watching the crowd through nervous eyes “Lord Draco Malfoy with Lady Pansy Malfoy” Draco wore black as well but his vest was a hunter green color that looked nice on him and Pansy looked amazing in her cream color halter top dress that went straight down and had a slit up to her thigh showing off surprisingly amazing legs “And finally Scorpius Malfoy and his wife Lanni Malfoy”
Lidia smiled brightly when her friends entered the room. Lanni was glowing from within, her very skin glowed, her eyes were glittering with happiness and even her hair was fuller and healthier. She wore a dress that made Lidia want to cry because of how beautiful it was, a white princess cut ball gown that flared out and changes from white to a lavender color and getting a deeper purple as it reaches the bottom where there was purple snowflakes embroidered on it. It was strapless with dark purple snowflakes around the trim and the back dipped low stopping just above the swell of her bottom. Scorpius was wearing a black suit with a deep purple vest that matched the bottom of Lanni’s dress, he had his arm around her waist and the biggest smile adorning his face. When the family spread out to visit with their friends Scorpius and Lanni came straight to them, Lanni hugged her tightly and fought with the tears that were filled in her eyes.
“I can’t believe this, Lidia” She said “Thank you”
“For what?” Lidia asked “I didn’t do anything”
“You set Scorpius’s robes on fire” Lanni whispered “Because of you he was kicked out of the Germany University. He came to our school and I got to meet him and now...I have a family again” She started to sob and hugged Lidia again tightly.
“I’m so happy for you” Lidia said.
“You know” Lanni said “Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy asked Scorpius and I to stay here until after the baby is born”
“Are you going to?” Lidia asked.
“Of course not” Lanni laughed “However, we are going to take the fall semester off and stay here after he/she is born to get a handle on being parents but we’ll be back in January just a semester behind all of you”
“That’s a wonderful idea” Lidia agreed.
“Friends” Draco announced “A few days ago I was not only told that I had a daughter-in-law but that I would soon be a grandfather” Everyone clapped and laughed as Draco playfully glared at his son and daughter-in-law “I think I am far too young but my wife is overly excited”
The guest all congratulated the Malfoys and then made their way to the dining hall where there was an enormous dinner was set upon the table. Lidia ate all she could and when dinner was done she found herself in the ball room alone, Remus had been invited to talk with the men in another room. Pansy assured her that they would sit around the ‘smoking’ room and talk about their women and businesses, the two most important things in their worlds (business being the first that is) and the women (and men that weren’t invited) would socialize. She found that the men that weren’t invited to this little get together were usually not invited back to the party the next year, unless their wives saved them, which many were trying to by impressing Pansy and Lanni.
Lidia took a moment when no one was trying to converse with her to make her way to the library. She didn’t want to leave the party but it really was getting a little stuffy in the spacious ball room. She opened the door and inhaled the smell of old books and leather as she slowly closed the door, she instantly felt more at home with the old library than she thought was possible. There was a noise from a chair and she spun around to see Lucius sitting there with a brandy glass in one hand and an open book in another. He was, however looking at her with an eyebrow raised at her just entering his domain.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Malfoy” She blushed “I didn’t realize that you would be in here”
“As it is my house” Lucius said “One would assume I would be in my favorite room”
“I’m sorry sir” She said and made her way to the door.
“Would you like some wine?” He asked “I have some...a sweet wine, it used to be Nar...my late wife’s favorite”
“Thank you” Lidia accepted the wine and tasted it, it was definitely the best she had ever tasted “Is that your wife?” She pointed to a picture of Lucius standing next to a woman that was tall, with long white blonde hair and piercing blue eyes that looked as if they caught all movement no matter where.
“That was my Nar...wife” He said looking at the picture with a pained expression “We’d been married for two years when that picture had been painted, she had been so upset that she wasn’t already holding a baby in her arms at that point but we had trouble conceiving” He sighed and shook his head “It’s a party, you don’t want to hear the ramblings of an old man”
“I prefer stories with emotions and love than the brainless prattle going on in the ball room” Lidia told him “Tell me about her” She said as she sat down on a smaller chair across from him “Tell me a little about your wife”
“I was formerly introduce to her when she was ten and I was fifteen” He told her “We were engaged to be married by then and had to get to know one another, we had two years in Hogwarts together and then I went to college to get my degree in business and she finished Hogwarts” He smiled at her “She turned seventeen and we were married that Valentines day, it was all romantic” He looked lost in memories and Lidia wiped away a tear that had formed her eyes “It was just the way she wanted it to be, at least that’s what she told me but she was really hard woman to read, some days you wouldn’t even know she was mad and then you’d find yourself on the wrong end of her wand”
“She sounds wonderful...maybe a little scary” Lidia admitted.
“She was plenty scary” He gave a small laugh “I fell so in love with her that I would have done anything and I made all the wrong choices...I thought that power was everything and that that was what Nar...my wife needed and that was how I should raise my son” Lidia’s eyes locked on to his and searched them, she almost screamed when he shot forward so suddenly and took her hand tightly in his “I didn’t...know...if I knew that, he was so...evil. I would have done anything to keep them safe...anything!”
“I know” Lidia said trying to pull her hand away “I know, Mr. Malfoy...let go please, you’re hurting me!”
“She was screaming” He whispered to her as if her knowing this would make a difference “But it never stopped...the torture, the pain...it just never ended, I begged and begged but they never stopped” He was crying but his grip had loosened immensely, he was starting to slip out of the seat he had been in to the floor.
“Lucius!” She snapped and his eyes locked on hers again “Please, stop”
“I’m” He looked around the room “You should rejoined the party Lidia” He said quietly as he turned away from her to hide his tears “Have a good night, Lidia. Please, speak of this to no one, not you mother or father or even your lover, this is to remain a secret, okay?”
“Sir please” She tried to reason with him but he turned back to her, his face a stern look of normality.
“Go back to the party, Lidia” He repeated “Good night”

Walking back in to the ball room was harder than it really needed to be but once she realized that Remus was back she felt better. She made her way over to him and hugged him tightly holding on longer than was needed and then to keep him from asking questions about where she had been or what had happened she led him to the dance floor and allowed him to take her for a few swings around the floor. When a man named Blaise Zabini asked her to dance she said yes and then was passed to Draco Malfoy then to Scorpius. The cameras of a dozen or so reporters flashed many times and she had been stopped a few times to give her thoughts about the dances, her partners, what she thought about a new trend and what she was wearing and where she had gotten it.
“Miss Granger” Pansy greeted as she walked in to a corner to enjoy her wine “You are glowing out there and the pureblood world is welcoming you with open arms, not something easily done I assure you”
“Something that wouldn’t have happened without your and your husband’s kindness, Mrs. Malfoy” Lidia said, if it was something that she had learned in her short time in the pureblooded world, it was that they loved to have their egos stroked all the time and it was the best way to get in their good graces.
“We got you in to the party” She said “But you are charming everyone you meet”
“Thank you” Lidia blushed “Mrs. Malfoy, can I ask you something?”
“Of course” She said “What is it?”
“How did she die?” Lidia asked “How did Mr. Malfoy’s wife die?”
“Narcissa” Pansy breathed and shook her head sadly “Narcissa was raped and beaten to death by about thirty male death eaters, she was very beautiful and where most of the female death eaters opened their legs for any male that came along Narcissa let no one but Lucius touch her” She shook her head again as if trying to get rid of the memories which she probably was “All the men wanted her and her sister allowed them to have her, repeatedly and however brutally they wanted her” She wiped tears away from her cheekbones “Lidia, magic is a beautiful and terrifying thing. It can be used to cure, replenish and help as well as torture, kill and just plain hurt, whenever she lost too much blood they would replenish it and start over again. Pain became too much they gave her a potion and began again...no rest, no sleep, no one to save her for hour after horrific hour until the potions stopped working and the spells had no affect and finally her heart gave out”
“Where was Draco?” Lidia whispered in horror “Or Lucius?”
“My husband has suffered greatly” Pansy answered “But he beats himself up over the fact that he had chosen and fought with his parents to go back to school to get away from the dark lord and his insane aunt Bellatrix” She said “And Lucius was there, that’s what’s made him so off his rocker now. He was tortured with the Crucio curse and beaten to a pulp before being restrained and made to watch what they did to his wife”
Lidia had a hard time after that to enjoy the party and she and Remus ended up leaving earlier than everyone else, telling them that they had to get ready to go back to America. Lidia hopped in to their carriage with a confused and frustrated Remus, he tried to entice her in to kissing and cuddling but she wasn’t in the mood for that anymore. She leaned forward and looked out the window towards the old manor house as they drove past it. She saw Lucius standing in the window of a second story room watching her carriage pull away. When they got to the gate she looked back again and could just barely see that he was standing in the room still watching them only there was someone else with him in the room. Lidia squinted to see better but she could only make out long flowing white-blonde hair that whipped around the feminine body. She felt something warm clutch her heart and make her feel better and yet she was sad all the same, she hugged herself closer to Remus and wondered if Bellatrix was alive or not because if she was Lidia wanted to make her pay for what she had done.

A/N: This didn’t go the way I expected but I am happy with the results. Tell me what you think about it!
