Roark shook his head. "Of COURSE I wasn't happy about it. So WHAT if I was the one to come up with the plans of action, the tactics and strategies that we were using. So WHAT that we knew the investigation better than anyone else. I was just out of the Academy, a Sergeant on his very first assignment. I was supposed to be there to learn, to assist in any way that I could. I should NEVER have been offered that command, should never have had that kind of responsibility so soon."
"Yet you did."
"I did, and as Rohan and Gareth pointed out, there simply wasn't anyone else who could do it. It was trial by fire as the saying goes. They, meaning Rohan and Gareth, couldn't take over as they were supposed to only be there to assist...to lend support if it should be needed. That investigation was not Counter-Intelligence province, and until it was, or until they had been ordered to do so, they couldn't take over. So I shut up and did what I needed to do," he shook his head again, lips twisting into a sort of half smile. "In the end, we ended up with a really good team, one that accepted my command, and my orders with no trouble," a glare was thrown Ardyn's way.
Ardyn merely raised a brow at that. "I'm sure that had to have helped."
"Well, of COURSE, it helped!" Harry snapped. "Once we caught the team up to speed, we went back to work. Within a couple of sectars we had broken the case wide open. arrested several hundred, including a few key players in Virgon, though none of his Inner Circle, took down several of his Terminators, and closed down all operations on Virgon."
Ardyn gave a long whistle. "Not bad, boys. Not bad AT all." His arms uncrossed as he sat forward. arms coming to rest on his desk over the files that lay there. "So now you are here. Counter-Intelligence Officers yourselves."
They both shrugged. "Admiral Roark and the others felt that we could handle the job. At Command Headquarters on Caprica, President Adar sat in on the meetings in which it was decided that the case against Riddle was now priority, and therefor needed to be turned over to Counter-Intelligence," Harry told him with a cool, almost considering look.
"As we were the only Officers that were free at the moment, there was little deliberation. As Kale had already asked to for us to be assigned to him," they saw the surprise that flared in his eyes, meaning he had not been told of that particular decision. Roark glance briefly at Harry, saw his head tilt, and Roark suddenly found himself wondering what else Kale had not told Ardyn. Had Kale no longer trusted Ardyn? And if he hadn't, why? "With that request in mind, Harry and I were given out orders. It was made very clear they want Riddle dealt with, and that is what we are here to so. Deal with him."
"If Kale couldn't, just what makes you think that you can?"
"As we have no idea where Kale's investigation stood, or what he was doing when he was killed," Harry spoke up, "we can't, nor will we speak of him until we do. Which is why we need to talk to Logan, Kili, and Fili. As for closing Riddle down, that is really quite simple, Captain. Riddle and his people made the mistake of underestimating us on Virgon. They will not do so again."
An auburn brow arched. "To what end, Lieutenant?"
Roark grinned at his tone. "He'll overestimate. He'll overcompensate to try to stop us from trying to shut him down completely. THAT, Captain, will be his mistake."
"Your overconfidence will be yours," he warned with a narrow eyes gaze.
"Overconfidence?" he blinked, then shrugged, "Hum...yes, I suppose that could be a danger, however unlikely. I think we're far more nervous now than on Virgon. There we were only going up against those people who worked for him, Here, it's going to be very different. Here we're not only going against those who work for him, his businesses, and all sorts of badness he had going on here. There are also his top two Terminators, Rodolphus and Rabastan, as well as Riddle himself. All three are known to be very twisted, very dangerous, and deadly mindsets."
Ardyn nodded, watching them both carefully. Finally, after several centons of consideration, he reached over to push a button on his comm pad. "Yes, Sir?" came a mild, female voice.
"Nadia, please ask Captain Fili, and Lt.'s Logan, Kili, and Tristyn to join us. Tell them to bring everything they have on the Riddle case with them."
"Captain Fili, and Lt.'s Logan and Kili have left the building, Sir, but Lt. Tristyn is still here. I'll call him immediately."
"Thank you, Nadia," he said and ended the call.
