The next day was excruciatingly long as he only saw Severus come to breakfast, and he had no classes with the man that day. After lunch he found time to open his journal.
Are you ok? I didn't see you at lunch.
It takes Severus a few minutes to respond
Yes, second years caused an explosion that covered the classroom in purple goo. I had to stay behind to clean it up.
Oh wonderful, you're having a great day.
Harry wrote smiling
Severus snorts.
Yes, just the kind of day I love to have. How was yours?
Well let's see, I didn't have class with you, and I didn't see you at lunch, that part is hard, otherwise it's been a good morning. I had ancient runes this morning, I'm sure you can guess how that went, I'm getting passing grades, but I hate it.
Harry smiled still thinking of Severus covered in purple goo.
It's a boring class granted bit you'll be grateful for the information if you ever wish to get into spell crafting. I'll be at dinner I assure you and you can of course come see me after if you would like.
I would like that very much. I have to head to Defense, so I won't be able to write but I'll see you soon.

He closed the journal and ran to the classroom, getting there barely in time.
Severus closes his journal and turns him mind to his last class of the day. After the class is over and he cleans up he makes his way to dinner.
Harry had to hide his smile as he walked into the hall with his friends and looked up to see Severus, quickly locking eyes. Dinner dragged on but harry made it through, even dessert. Of course, it tasted nowhere as delicious as Severus's lips did. He zoned out for a moment and was poked by Ron "Mate, you are coming or what?" He said. "Yea" He said getting up from the table and following his friends to the common room. Harry decided to just wear the clothes he liked over the summer, just his black trousers and white button up. He arrived at Severus's door prompt at 7pm.
Severus grins upon opening the door to let Harry in. " Hello. I hope your day was at least better than mine, my best robe was ruined today. " He says.
Harry can't help but smile too as he is ushered in. "Well that just means that I will have to take you shopping for new ones" He smiled and held out a fist in front of him, he opened his hand revealing a small round object. Harry tapped his wand to it, and it grew slowly into a bundle of red roses. "Does this make your day any better?" He asked smiling.
Severus smiles and takes the bouquet of roses and blushes, " Well thank you, no one has ever given me flowers before. " He says shyly summoning a vase and putting the flowers in it with some water and placing it on his table.
"Well I'm very glad to be the first" Harry said watching him put the flowers in a vase.
Severus smiles at him, "Me too. Thank you, Harry. " He says. " Would you like tea?" He asks.
"Sounds nice yes" He said making his way over to the sofa instead of the chair.
Severus orders tea and biscuits and contours a table in front of the couch to set the tea tray on
Harry made his tea and stirred it, glad to be back in the comfortable space with Severus. "Christmas break is soon; everyone leaves on Friday" Harry said. "I was hoping I could take you to a nice restaurant on Saturday in muggle London?" He asked nervously. Hermione had given him a spot to go if he agreed that is.
Severus nods making his tea. " Yes, I'd like that. " He says. " And you are welcome here as much as you wish to be here over the holiday.
"I am?" He asked surprised by the statement and sipped his tea. "Oh, and I won't be wearing my glamour. Other than one over the scar and one to get rid of my glasses." Harry said hoping that would be ok
Severus nods, " That's fine as we will be in muggle territory it's not really necessary to use the glamour. It'll be nice to be able to actually go out with you. " He says.
Harry smiled and blushed. "Yes, it will be, just us" He said relaxing into the couch a bit as his nerves calmed.
Severus sips his tea and looks at the young man, " You're one of the few students staying for the holidays this year. " He says " generally we have more but with the war I think parents want their kids' home as much as possible. "
"I can't say that I blame them really" Harry said. "They all need to have the best childhood they can even if it is in the midst of a war" He said drinking again.
Severus nods," especially in the midst of war, people need those small moments more than ever now." He says. " It's times like these that you start to appreciate things you might have been taking for granted.
"I'm finding a whole new reason to live. It's not just to win the war anymore" He said and locked eyes with Severus. "It's for a future now" he whispered
Severus nods and blushes lightly," You know I'm starting to feel the same way." He says softly
Harry put his tea down and light picked up Severus's hand pulling it up and placing a light kiss there, not breaking eye contact.
Severus smiles," You know one of the reasons I'm okay that it's you?" He asks, " no one has ever loved me until you came along, I still don't really understand why you do, but I would be a fool to turn my back on it. " He says.
Harry smirked. "You truly believe me now?" He said and then smiled.
Severus nods. " Yes. I believe you, and... I return the sentiment." He says
Harry froze for a half second, but he knew Severus well enough to know he caught it. Severus had just said, well, in his way he just told Harry he loved him too. He couldn't help the redness as it flooded his cheeks and he reached for his tea, a little in shock.
Severus swallows thickly, he knows Harry would be able to catch his meaning. It's not something he's ever expressed to another before, so this again is new territory, as this whole courtship had been for him.
Harry felt as though his heart was going to come right out of his chest but forced a calm face. He cleared his throat after sipping his tea. "Have you started on your book yet?" Harry asked about the book he gave him a few days ago. He was in serious uncharted waters now.
Severus nods," yes, it's very well written so far. " He says. " Thank you again." He says.
There was a small moment of uncomfortable silence before Harry couldn't take it. "I have no idea what to say now. I'm overwhelmed honestly. I..." Harry was floundering and hoping that Severus could help him a bit.
Severus nods," I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. " He says and looks at Harry, " what can I do to help, this is new for me too, though I am older than you and should be more experienced with this... I'm not... I've never, been in love before. " He says
Harry sat his tea down and leaned back on the sofa and lowered his head to the side, so it rested on Severus's shoulder. "I love you too" He said like a weight had lifted from hm. "I think we will have to learn the rest together" He said resting his hand on Severus's and closing his eyes
Severus nods," I'm more than willing to learn with you." He says and turns his head to place a kiss on Harry's head.
They sat like that until it was time for harry to leave. "This is what I envision" he said, "just being comfortable" He shifted his head and sat up on the sofa. "I've got to get going" He said. Harry didn't want to leave him ever, but he knew he had to. He sighed in his mind and smiled at Severus.
Severus nods reluctantly it was. Getting harder every day to. Let harry leave. " Sleep well, and I'll see you I the morning. " He says.
"You too, I better see you well rested at breakfast" Harry smiled as he opened the door and slipped out heading back to his rooms. One day, one day he wouldn't have to leave. That thought is what lulled harry into dreamland that night.
Severus goes to bed and dreams of Harry, waking up the next morning hard as a rock and forced to deal with it in his morning shower. He felt like a teenager after his shower and dressing he heads up for breakfast.
The next three days were enjoyable, Harry spent each evening with Severus, He had been in constant contact with Hermione when he wasn't with Severus. He wanted to make sure that their date went perfectly. Finally, it was Saturday, Harry woke up having slept fine, thankful for the sleeping potion.
Saturday hit and Severus was actually very nervous, it wasn't their first date, but it almost felt like it, the fact that they would be going as themselves seemed to add a new dimension to things. He picks out the muggle clothes he'll wear that evening with much internal debate. Now he has the rest of the day to while away.
Harry was nervous but at the same time, everything felt right. He got a hot shower and got dressed before opening his journal.
Good morning Severus. Did you sleep ok?
Severus has the journal open on his desk as he sits grading some homework, so he sees when the message come through, he isn't going to admit that he had been waiting for it glancing at the little book every so often.
Good morning Harry Yes, I slept well, thank you, and yourself?
I did, but I have to say I did take a sleeping potion.
Severus chuckles
Understood, those can be quite helpful, just be sure you don't overuse them.
Harry laughed in the empty dorm.
Yes Sir.
He couldn't help himself, it was too perfect
Severus chuckles
Brat.
Harry now took this as an endearing term and smiled.
Git.
Severus laughs out loud many people had called him. A got bit never as a term of endearment as this was.
Always. I never denied it.
Harry smiled and placed his quill on the paper.
Are you ready for today? I have something planned before dinner. We should leave around 4 if that's acceptable.
Severus smiles
Yes, I'm ready, I picked out what I would wear this morning so we can leave whenever you prefer.
Harry thought for a moment.
Well if you aren't busy, we could use a warming charm and have lunch on the grounds? Go for a walk? We can spend some time together. I honestly wouldn't care what we did.
Severus thinks for a moment,
We'll be seen by the staff and few students staying, if that doesn't bother you, sure we can do that.
It doesn't matter if we are seen together, I'm not sure why it would, at least not here. We wouldn't want word to get other places.
Harry furrowed his brow and tied his shoes properly.
Yes, though that might not be a concern for much longer, I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to be able to keep spying on the Dark Lord.
A bit of terror hit harry square in the chest.
What do you mean?
Severus sighs
He becomes ever more unhinged, personally I think that whatever he did to stay alive and return to life messed with his mind, to the point that he's extremely unstable and volatile. Albus believes it may become too dangerous for me to continue returning on to him.
