Chapter Eleven: The Transfiguration Exam
Later that evening, after Sirius had signed his name on a very important document drawn up by Dumbledore, he was relaxing in James' arms.
"That was incredible," James finally spoke. "How did you ever come up with that kind of revenge, Siri? You nailed him!"
Sirius chuckled. "Glad you approve."
"Of course I do! I only wish you had let me beat the bastard up."
Sirius' smiled faded, and he quickly shook his head. "No way in hell, James. He's a dangerous man. As much as I wanted to see you attacking him, I didn't want tou touching you. Besides, I needed to hurt him. In more ways than one."
James pulled Sirius closer to him. "I'd say you definitely succeeded, Siri. But how you&you "
"How did I think of my plan of attack?" Sirius asked.
"Exactly."
"When I first saw him, I was stunned. After I got over that feeling, I basically wanted to beat him up until he was a puddle of blood on the floor. But then, as soon as I realized Dumbledore had been negotiating with the bastard, I started to think that maybe I should use that against him and get him back. Did that make sense?"
"Yeah, I think so."
"I totally don't want anyone else to know that the child I'm carrying is his and not yours, James," Sirius said. "At first, when we started talking about that, I almost lost it. But then, my mind totally went into revenge-mode. When I found out the offer was one million, I decided on three million. And I knew damn well he would have to pay. I was a little worried that he wouldn't, but I just knew he didn't want it out in the papers. He wanted to hurt me, but he never expected this to happen," Sirius said, motioning to his round stomach.
James gently placed his hands on Sirius' stomach and rubbed it.
Sirius smiled. He loved the way it felt when James did that.
"I just knew that he would freak out inside, thinking about this becoming public knowledge. Did you see how upset he looked at the end there? I mean, the bastard was trying to hide it, but he couldn't! Gods, I fucking hate him, James."
"I hate him, too," James replied. "I despise him. And yes, I saw it. I really admire that you were able to stay calm enough and get revenge."
"Thank you. I knew it would be my only chance," Sirius said.
"Why did you start with five million?"
Sirius shrugged. "I was pretty sure he would say no to five and four, but I thought it was worth a try. And besides, it sounded like I had go down two million from what I wanted. Can you believe I'm getting three million galleons?"
James shook his head. "You did him in good, Sirius. He's rich, but he will notice that it's gone."
Sirius grinned evilly. "Yes, he will."
..
(A few days later, at breakfast.)
"Are you going to eat that?" Sirius asked, eyeing James' last pancake. James' fork was poised right above it.
"Erm, yeah," James replied. "But you can have it." He started to lift it off of his plate.
"No, no, don't do that. I've probably eaten enough, anyway."
James rolled his eyes. He put the pancake on Sirius' plate. "Just eat it, babe. You know you want it!"
"Well, if you insist," Sirius said, digging into the food.
James chuckled and reached over to grab Peter's last pancake.
"So, did you two study for the transfiguration exam?" Remus asked as he hurriedly ate his pancakes before someone took them.
"Sirius, you took my pancake!" Peter exclaimed after he had finally stopped talking to the fourth year seated next to him.
"I did not," Sirius replied. "Do you want the rest of your fruit, though, Peter?"
"I took it, Peter," James said. "Should I give you some of my fruit in exchange?"
"Nah," Peter said. "Just give it to Sirius. That way he won't take mine."
"Hey!" Sirius exclaimed. He watched while James dished some fruit onto his plate. "Thank you."
"MmmHmm," James mumbled. "What on earth happened to us getting tons of food? It used to go on endlessly on the table."
"During feasts that happens, James."
"Remus, it used to always happen," James complained.
"Maybe you're right," Remus said. "Hmmm."
Sirius groaned. "You two amaze me. We come to breakfast too late."
"He's right," Peter said. "You guys aren't paying attention. If we got here earlier then we would be here when the food supply was greater."
James raised an eyebrow. "When did you get to be so smart?"
"Remus, did you say something about a transfiguration exam?" Sirius asked worriedly.
"Yeah, you know, it's on the-"
"Fuck," Sirius interrupted.
"Fuck," James agreed.
"You two have nothing to worry about," Peter said. He reached over and grabbed a few strawberries off of Sirius' plate. "You guys never have to study."
"That's usually true, Peter, but we weren't paying attention when she went over the material," Sirius explained. "We were passing notes."
"What about the homework?" Peter asked.
Remus smirked.
"We, erm, we sort of copied Remus'," James answered.
"You're screwed," Remus said.
"Thanks," Sirius muttered. He stared down at his plate for several moments and then grinned.
"When you receive your test, you may begin," Professor McGonagall said sternly. She started on the far side of the room and began handing each student a thick piece of parchment.
James just stared at her nervously. He couldn't help but think this was an odd situation for him to be in.
Sirius undid the top button of his robes and slowly pulled his hair back so that it was most of the way off his neck. He sighed and rubbed his hand on his forehead.
"J-J-James," Sirius whispered.
"What?" James turned around and faced his boyfriend. "What is it?"
"I oh gods do you feel all hot?"
"Mr. Black, why are you talking?"
Sirius blinked slowly and weakly looked at his professor.
"He feels sick," James said worriedly. He reached over and put his hand on Sirius' arm. "Are you going to be all right, love?"
Sirius whimpered. "I feel really weird," he sslowslowly.
Professor McGonagall looked concerned. "Mr. Potter, why don't you take Mr. Black to the infirmary?"
James nodded and helped Sirius to stand up. Sirius clung to James tightly.
"I'll have Mr. Lupin and Mr. Pettigrew get your bags after class," McGonagall said. "We'll set up a make-up time for your exam."
James nodded again and helped Sirius out of the room.
Peter looked after his friends worriedly while Remus shook his head and tried not to laugh.
..
"Sirius, just rest for a while. You're okay, but I do think you're really tired," Madam Pomfrey said softly. She patted his head and then disappeared into her office.
James sat down next to his boyfriend. "Siri?"
"You know, I really wish McGonagall wouldn't call me Mr. Black."
"We can talk to her about it," James replied. "Sirius, are you really feeling ill?"
"Why would you think I wasn't?" Sirius asked quietly.
"I know you, Siri."
Sirius looked up at James and grinned. He winked and settled down against the pillow. "James, will you go get your transfiguration book so that we can study for that bloody exam?"
