Lucius woke to bright sunlight shining through the curtains. It took a moment for the events of the previous night to come back, and then he was afraid it had all been a dream. Then he was afraid to open his eyes because he was convinced he would see an empty bed.
After a few moments he forced himself to look, and was a bit surprised to see James fast asleep beside him. A pleasantly warm sensation spread throughout his body. He bit his lip and reached to grab the dark haired man’s right hand. It was foolish to actually think he would still be wearing it, but he had to look. His heart jumped in his throat when he saw the ring he had given James so many years before.
With a soft smile he reached out to gently stroke James’ cheek before carefully getting out of bed and putting on his robe. He decided to go down and get some breakfast.
Draco and Narcissa were already at the breakfast table. “Morning Father,” Draco called out.”
“Morning,” Lucius answered with a genuine smile. Narcissa was the first to notice the oddity. “Lucius are you in a good mood for once?” she mused.
Lucius nodded. “That I am!”
A good mood was an understatement. After the previous night he was on top of the world. He hadn’t felt so happy since the last time he had been with James. Just having that man lying beside him made everything wonderful.
A house elf ran out of the kitchen and made a little bow. “What would Master like for breakfast?” it squeaked.
Lucius stopped for a moment, and his smile faded. Suddenly he remembered everything negative he had done. He had promised James he would try to be a better person, but then he had abused his staff, lied, cheated, and worst of all, he and Draco both had done some awful things to Harry. A sudden and deep fear overcame the usually unshakable blonde. What if James found out and never wanted to see him again?
“Master?” the elf spoke cautiously.
Lucius closed his eyes and took a deep breath. James wasn’t his father. He was a loving and forgiving person. Even if he got angry, he would eventually calm down and forgive. “I want two plates of blueberry French toast,” Lucius ordered.
Draco sighed sadly, but went on with eating his pancakes. Wanting two plates meant his father had someone in his room. While Draco was used to his father bringing home not only whores, but other men and women, it still hurt him to watch his father cheat on his mother; even if their marriage was arranged.
Narcissa had known her husband for a long time, and noticed a few things their son hadn’t. She had noticed her husband’s unusual good mood, and she had also noticed the flicker of fear in his eyes. “Lucius dear, what has caused this good mood of yours. I haven’t seen you like this since….” It suddenly dawned on her. “But he’s-”
Lucius gently patted her shoulder as the elf brought out a tray with the French toast. “He isn’t. Don’t worry, I’ll explain everything later. Right now I have a guest to go attend to.”
He picked up the tray and started to carry it back to his bedroom, which only confused Draco more. “What’s wrong with father?” he asked a little concerned.
Narcissa only smiled softly at her son. “He’s in love.”
When Lucius finally arrived back at his bedroom and opened the door, his heart sank when he saw that the bed was empty. Had James really left without saying goodbye? Lucius set the tray down on his nightstand and fell back on his bed with a sad sigh.
Several minutes the bathroom door opened and James emerged. Lucius was so happy that he flew off the bed and tackled the dark haired wizard, pinning him up against the wall. “You didn’t leave!” he cried out happily.
James chuckled and softly kissed his blonde lover. “Of course I didn’t. Now that we’ve gotten the fucking out of the way, there’s a lot we need to talk about.”
Lucius nodded in agreement and motioned to the nightstand. “I brought up some breakfast.”
“My favorite,” James licked his lips and sat himself down on the edge of the bed.
Lucius just stared at him for a moment and watched him eat. “Why can’t I be mad at you?”
James shrugged. “Why would you want to?”
“You pretended to be dead for twelve years for starters,” Lucius sighed and sat down beside him. “You didn’t even write me a letter James. I grieved for you for a long time. You are the only person I’ve ever loved.”
James was quiet for a moment. “I’m sorry,” he sighed. “I hated how quickly I was whisked away.” He looked up and met Lucius’ gaze. “I wanted to write you a letter, but Dumbledore insisted that I contact no one. He didn’t want there to be any chance that someone might let it slip what had happened and where I was. It wasn’t easy for me either Lucius, I lost everything. But I’m here now, so let’s focus on the present.”
Lucius reached out to gently cup his cheek. “All right then, let’s focus on the present.”
They were interrupted by an owl at the window. Lucius got up and went to retrieve the letter attached to its leg only to see it was for James. “Why would somebody be sending a letter for you here James?” he asked suspiciously. “Who knows you’re here?”
“Sirius knows,” James answered truthfully.
Lucius nodded and took the letter over to James. There were four other people besides Narcissa who had known their secret; Severus, Lily, Sirius, and Remus. Lucius preferred to keep it quiet, but he could understand James wanting to let his wife and two best friends know. He had told Severus, his best friend.
James read the letter before folding it up and setting it aside. “Yep, it was from Sirius. He got Harry’s letter, and everything is good to go on taking him to the Weasleys’.”
Lucius bit his lip before asking what he had been dying to know. “So… did Sirius really…?”
James shook his head. “I know what you’re thinking; that I just want to believe him because of how close we are, but trust me, I would know if he was lying to me.”
“I do trust you,” Lucius answered as he pulled James close and planted a light kiss on his cheek. “And to show how much faith I have in you, I want you to find a way to come to the Quiddich World Cup next week.”
“I’m already going with Harry and the Weasleys,” James answered. “But the Death Eaters are planning something aren’t they?”
Lucius nodded. “And I want nothing more than to see you in action again. So how long can you stay?”
“How long do you want me to stay?”
“I never want you to leave,” Lucius answered truthfully. “I want to keep you all to myself for the rest of my life.”
James chuckled and shook his head. “Well you know that that isn’t possible. But… I can stay until Sunday afternoon.”
Lucius perked up a little. That meant he would have four whole days to reconnect with his lost love, which was longer than he used to stay. “That means we’ve got four days to plan. Since there’s no hurry, why don’t we go get reacquainted in the shower…”
James rolled his eyes, but got up and sauntered back over to the bathroom, seductively swaying his naked body. Lucius didn’t have to be told twice, and followed after him.

A/N: Hey, I’m still alive! I had a nasty case of writer’s block, but now I’ve come back to finish this. I already started on the next chapter while I was waiting for my beta to polish this one up.
