Living Chapter 11
If there had ever been a time for freaking out, it was now. Hermione's mind raced trying to think of who had written the note. Who would be so brazen to threaten a former spy and death eater? It couldn't be a Slytherin could it? They should know their head of house better than anyone and know how he would react. But to have someone from another house come all the way down to Snape's door and then try to get away…yes, they would have to be bold indeed.
"What do we do now? Whoever sent that note wants something?" Hermione clung to Severus with a death grip. "How will we ever find out who wrote it?"
"When I find out who sent it they may be dead soon." Severus's voice clearly cemented the fact that he meant what he'd said. "If it is a student I may show mercy, if it's an adult…well that's another story." The hardness of his face would have made even the bravest of Death Eaters shake in their boots. This was the Severus Snape that Hermione had known for so many years. This was the Severus Snape when told to kill by Lord Voldemort; he hadn't hesitated in the least. When he needed to get a job done, he didn't quit until he was finished. So Hermione knew that Severus meant what he said.
"Well at least we know it's not Ginny." Severus looked at her like he had for the past seven years: ala dunderhead speaking here. His eyes bore into hers showing no amusement at her attempt to lighten the mood.
"That doesn't mean the other Weasley is out of question." Severus said "Weasley" like he was saying a dirty word.
"Oh Severus, if Ron knew about us he wouldn't be sending some obscure note. He would be storming down to the dungeons trying to procure vengeance for my honor." Hermione's speech produced the characteristic eyebrow rising from the man beside her.
"I thought that you two were out of sorts with one another. Why would he be storming anything in your honor?" Severus stood up to start pacing his small office.
"Even though we have fought doesn't mean we aren't life long friends. We still love each other." Hermione looked at her dark, brooding, hopefully soon-to-be-lover who had swiftly turned around.
"You still love each other?" His menacing glare turned into a chortle. "If what I have observed the past several weeks is love…ha!" Severus went and plunked down into his large office chair folding his arms in defensive mode.
"I don't mean romantic love and you know it." Hermione folded her arms in a huff. Once again, two could play this game. "Just because you don't have any friends that…" Her harsh words stilled when she knew they had struck home and hurt the man sitting across from her. He really didn't have any true friends. The only true friend he'd ever had was Lily. She had turned against him after a slip of tongue calling her that dreaded name of "Mudblood". Then she had been murdered after a prophecy that he had informed The Dark Lord about. Hermione's words had stung and dug deep within his psyche.
"I'm sorry Severus. I didn't mean…" her words were cut short by him speaking, softly now.
"It's true Hermione. You were only being honest." His sadness permeated the small room. He stood and opened the door leading into his private chambers. Before the door could shut Hermione followed him through. He only glanced back at her, watching as she followed him. His dark eyes told exactly how he was feeling. He went over to his liquor cabinet pulling out the dreaded fire whiskey that he said he wouldn't partake of ever again. Pouring himself a glass full, he tilted back his head and drank it, breathing for air when he was done.
"I think I could use one of those." Hermione said with all sincerity.
"No." Severus said. "That's all we would need now to have both of us liquored up. One of us needs to keep a straight head right now." He poured himself another glass full knocking that one down just as fast. Another one followed soon after. Hermione only stared at seeing her usually fully composed Professor getting drunk.
"I guess that makes me be the one showing wisdom and discretion." Hermione said snottily and flounced down on the leather sofa. "I am an adult so quit treating me like a child."
"Quit acting like one and I'll quit treating you as such." Severus could be quite condescending when he was full of liquor. Actually he was that way even when he wasn't. He went to fill up his glass once again when Hermione took the decanter out of his hands.
"Bring that back wench! That belongs to me!" Severus almost fell over trying to walk to Hermione as she ran away from him. Hermione tried not to laugh in his face, but it was amusing watching Severus so tipsy. This was a man who was usually so in control of his words, actions and thoughts. To see him acting like almost every other wizard out there had made the evening quite eventful.
"No! You've had enough Severus. Sit down and let's talk. We need to figure out how to deal with the note and who wrote it." Hermione grabbed his hands to pull him down on to the sofa. Instead of sitting, he tumbled onto Hermione where he was sprawled over her.
"Ow, that hurt." Not quiet passed out, his full body weight was on Hermione. Severus's head was nuzzling into her neck. His lips sucked again on the chosen spot on her neck.
"You are bound and determined to forever mark me." Her words were said accompanied by a giggle.
"Always. You are mine." He pushed up her jumper and bra exposing her skin to the cool air in the castle. Regardless of the time of year, the castle always felt cold, especially in the dungeons. Her nipples pebbled, standing proud as Severus stared at them like treasures. Just his look alone made the warmth pool down below. She loved the way his dark eyes spoke volumes without him uttering a sound. He leaned down, his tongue darting out to lick one of her exposed breasts.
"Oh, Oh Gods!" Hermione was truly lost to his touch. His mouth now latched on fully to one of her nipples, suckling as her body went limp. Hermione ran her fingers through his silky hair that smelled of ginger tonight. As his mouth worked magic, his leg began to rub against her between her legs. Hermione felt that she was going to die from what she was feeling. She felt his hands starting to sneak underneath her skirt when there was pounding on the door to Severus's chambers.
Hermione pushed the inebriated man off of her and he rolled off of the sofa. Severus fell face first on the floor. The pounding on the door increased in urgency. Hermione made sure her jumper was pulled down and everything was straightened as best it could be. She heard Severus groaning on the floor as he pushed himself up.
Yanking the door open Hermione was surprised at who she saw. There stood Harry with blood streaming down his face. She thought she would never see him looking like that again once the war had ended.
"I need to speak to Professor Snape." The evening was becoming stranger and stranger by the moment.
What kind of trouble is Harry in now? Dang him for interrupting them. Thanks for the reviews. I love to hear back from you.
