Author's Note: Thank you all for the reviews and votes :) I do appreciate them. I'm just glad that you are enjoying the story. I wish AF allowed for responses to reviews like some sites do. I'll be adding chapters 11-13 today and at the end of 13 I'll have some links for images.
Xander ignored Anya as he walked out of the Magic shop. He did not want to deal with her drama right at the moment; he had enough of his own to deal with. Walking away from the building he wasn't really headed anywhere in particular he just had the need to walk. It wasn't long before he found himself in the park. He went over to sit on the edge of the slide as he thought about everything that he'd learned. He'd been hit with a lot with only a couple of hours sleep which made it more difficult to handle everything. His parents weren't his parents. His real parents were actually wizards from England. Okay, that he could kind of deal with. It was odd, but he thought he could handle that. It wasn't like his parents growing up had been that great so finding out that he had others seemed to make sense. In fact he was kind of thrilled to find out he didn't have any of Tony Harris' DNA in his make up. He'd always been more than a little concerned that he'd turn out just like Tony. He didn't have to worry about it genetically which was good. He would just have to watch out for the whole example bit since that was all he had seen growing up. He realized that breaking up with Anya was a necessity now more than ever. She brought that aspect of him out and he didn't like it nor did he like how she nagged at him. It was his parents' marriage all over again.
No, not his parents, they were the people who raised him. His parents had been wizards over in England. Wizards, he thought to himself. It was the thought of him being a wizard that shook him up. He couldn't imagine being a wizard. He had always been the normal one in the group. He had accepted that fact and now it turned out he wasn't so normal after all. He put his head in his hands as he thought about that. Was he going to be a wizard like Gandalf? Obviously Giles was one of these wizards, but he didn't really have a clue as to what they could do. He remembered Severus and Giles both mentioning a school and graduating. Did they have to go to school in order to learn how to be wizards? He hoped that wasn't the case because he wasn't sure he wanted to go back to school at his age. He'd have to ask the others more questions about that. Yeah, they had filled him in on the separate magical government still that didn't tell him much on what wizards could and could not do. He had a million and one questions about that and about removing the block on his magic. Severus had said he could remove it and that it would hurt; again that didn't tell him a whole lot. He really did need more information on it all.
He rubbed his face and decided to think about the other news he'd learned about. The Council had lied, not only about their origins, but the fact that all vampires were soulless monsters. He doubted that Angel knew about any of this and that really burned him up because so much bloodshed could have been avoided. From what he remembered when The Master had been dusted Angel had become the head of the order. If Angel had known about the ritual that Severus guy had mentioned he was fairly sure Angel would have done it; more then likely The Master had never told him about it. He'd have to have Severus fill them in on it; fill in Angel as well and make sure it happened. He figured if the ritual was done than Angel would have his soul permanently and they wouldn't have to worry about Angelus ever showing up again. That was something he'd love to make sure happened. It was just such a waste that Angel had to lose his soul at all before. It all could have been prevented. If Angelus had never lost his soul he knew things would be very different in this town and just maybe Buffy and Dawn would still be with them. He shook his head pushing aside the what ifs. He knew those were endless and useless.
His thoughts went back to how they had been lied to by The Council. He knew sooner or later they would have to deal with them. The Council couldn't be allowed to continue the way they had been. He now knew they had lied about the vampires and they had lied about how old they were that still left a lot of other things. What about how a slayer came into being or how many there actually were? What about the prophecies or the books that were owned by them, had they been edited to fit their plans? Was everything about the Council a fabrication? The idea that they had all been played that way made Xander feel sick, both mentally and physically. He knew he'd killed vampires; however, most of them had attacked first so he figured they were evil. That was a small comfort, although not much of one for he had to wonder how many had attacked just because he'd been armed with stakes. Did they think they were protecting themselves? He laid back on the slide realizing he could drive himself crazy with what ifs. For now he'd leave the past in the past. He knew he couldn't change it, no matter how much he tried or wanted to do so. The gods knew he'd wanted to change his own past on a number of occasions and he knew it was a pointless endeavor. He would just have to learn from it to change the future. What did make him angry, though, was how the Council had been so self-righteous and condemning of Faith for taking the life of a human because he had a soul only to find out what hypocritical bastards they were all this time. They had made her suffer for no reason. She hadn't deserved that. He'd have to talk with Giles about what he planned to do about the Council. He took a deep breath and stood up. He looked at the way he'd come only to shake his head. He wasn't ready to deal with the people that were at the Magic Box, yet. He had questions that he knew they couldn't answer. There was only one person who could, so, with that in mind, he headed to his parents' home to get the answers he sought.

"Should someone go after him?" Harry asked as he watched Xander walk out and Giles just sit there. He knew for some people it was best to be alone while for others they needed someone with them.
"No, Xander just needs a bit of time to assimilate all the new information," Giles explained. "Actually, I cannot blame the lad. You have altered our reality and now we have to come to terms with the new rules you might say. I would never have suspected that Xander was a wizard let alone a Black. Now that I think on it, however, he does bear a strong resemblance to Sirius, not to mention the sense of humor. Then there is the information Severus has given us. I feel like a fool in believing all that they told me. Not that I doubt you Severus, but are you sure on the information you gave to us about vampires and The Council?"
"Uncle Sev is considered one of the experts on vampires as far as the Ministry is concerned," Draco told him. "He used to tell me stories about them when I was a child. It was quite fascinating. I was very disappointed in how little we were taught about them in DADA. Of course having a new teacher each year for the class has not exactly helped our education on the subject."
"I have to admit I was hoping for more as well. Of course we had Quirell that year and he acted too frightened to discuss anything," Harry stated. He turned to towards Severus as he thought about the subject. "Perhaps you can recommend some books for me to read on them Severus. Well, once I get rid of Voldemort, because I really don't have the time for fun reading at this point."
"I am sure I can, however Harry you must remember to enjoy yourself otherwise you will lose the focus for fighting," Severus stated. He could strangle Dumbledore for making Harry think that he could not have fun at all. That all he could think about first and foremost was his fight against Voldemort. "Before you can even think of facing him Harry we need to get that final block on your magic off and you need to learn how to control your magic. Ripper," he said looking at him thoughtfully. "Do you know much about inheritance blocks and soul-bonds? I am afraid I only know the basics that were mentioned with creature inheritances. Harry here has one and when I did the scan on young Alexander I found one on him as well. I think it is something we need to figure out as soon as possible."
"Xander has a natural block like mine?" Harry asked Severus and saw him nod. "And you don't think its creature based, yet you have no idea what it is?" he clarified with him.
"That is correct Harry. I have never seen a block like this before and it does not have the typical creature inheritances signatures," Severus explained. "However, it does have a soul-bond signature to it. Whatever you two are it is truly unique. I also think it is more than mere coincidence that you both have it even if I do not know all the ramifications as of yet."
"Unfortunately, I know about what you do Severus, however that being said, I do know someone who knows far more on the subject matter," Giles stated. "He studied soul-bonds associated with creature inheritances, well all forms of bonds actually and is considered to be a master in the knowledge of them. I am sure he would be able to assist us in this matter. I can contact him for you if you would like. He is only a few hours away from here so that should make it easier." Looking at Severus he knew that before he made the call he had a question that needed to be answered. "Severus, do you know the ritual that a vampire must do to become the master of an order?"
"Actually, yes I do. It is not an elaborate ritual surprisingly enough. I take it you know a vampire who should be the head of an order?" Severus asked. If what he thought was correct then having a new master would change the dynamics of things in the world and perhaps in who supported the Dark Lord. Many of the vampires who flocked to his side were from the two orders that did not have souls. If one of those orders now had souls many might drop from the Dark Lord's service thus depleting his ranks. "I will warn you if he or she has no claim to be the Master of the order and does the ritual magic will punish them harshly. I cannot say for sure what shall happen for magic will judge them for their actions and dole out punishment accordingly."
Giles thought for a moment then nodded. "Yes, I do know one who is supposed to be the head of the Order of Aurelius; however I know he never performed that ritual. I believe he will be most interested in this ritual and will want to perform it as soon as possible. I shall put a call in to Angel and Wesley, the chap I mentioned who knows about bonds. They work together in Los Angeles so if it can all be sorted out they should be able to come here fairly quickly, by tomorrow night if I were to hazard a guess. If you will pardon me a moment," he said before leaving them alone to go and make the phone call. At least this call would be better than the last call he made to them about Buffy's death.
"Angel, mmm, I wonder if he is speaking of Angelus," Severus muttered to himself. It was a story he knew of and if it was true that the vampire had been cursed with a soul he would like to talk with him. If the vampire did the ritual thus making only one order with soulless vampires then perhaps wizards could arrange a possible way to curse the other order in a similar manner. It was something for him to think on. Of course even if they could curse them with souls any the vampires turned still wouldn't have souls since the original vampires' souls weren't permanent, he thought to himself. That was the nature of a curse to have at least one loophole present; even if that loop hole was a miracle to happen.
"Which means we shall be in town for longer than we originally planned," Harry stated ignoring Severus mutterings for the moment. "When he comes back we will need to ask about lodgings in the town. I, for one, do not want to portkey back and forth over the next few days." He hated portkeys. He hadn't been that fond of them after the first time using them, but after the end of the Tri-Wizarding championship all they did was remind him of Voldemort's return and Cedric's death.
"I do not blame you Harry. Do you think this town has decent lodgings? This town is not exactly London," Draco said with a bit of snobbery in his voice. He was not going to stay in some run down muggle hotel if he could help it. From what he'd seen of the town so far he didn't think it sported much in the way of five star hotels. "When he comes back I also want to ask him if he knows about my ancestor. I meant to ask Xander, however with filling him in about the Ministry I was distracted," Draco stated. "It should prove interesting to talk to this William Malfoy. The goblins stated he was a vampire and that Xander was seen in his company. With how they go after vampires I am a bit surprised that they fraternized with him and did not just try to kill him. I shall have to ask them about that."

Xander arrived at his parents’ house and stood there looking about the living room. No one was home at the moment and he was trying to figure out where his mother would have hidden any information on him and this Bellatrix. The front room was the same as always; a mess, not that he expected the information to be there anyway. His mother would have kept it someplace he wouldn't go into and he knew where that was. He went up to his parents bedroom, a room he normally avoided like the plague. He looked about and started going through the dresser drawers. When he didn't find anything there he checked under the bed and then went to the closest. It didn't take him long to find the box hidden on the shelf in the back. "Of course if I had checked here first it would have been in the dresser," he muttered as he looked through the box. In it were several letters that were from Bellatrix. They were lying on top while there were other sets of letters wrapped in different colored ribbons beneath hers. He carried the box over to the bed and sat upon it. He started reading over the letters. Bellatrix was writing to her asking for her assistance in hiding a baby "like Jessica". He didn't know what she meant by that but she repeated it several times and that Jessica needed to help her since she and the baby were so much alike. The letters seemed to be over a short span of days and even he could see they were carefully written to manipulate his mother to take him in. He wasn't sure exactly what buttons they were pushing, but he could read between the lines well enough to know that it at least looked as if Bellatrix had used his mother. The last letter was very short with just a location upon it which he took to mean as to where his mother had picked him up. He put them back in the box and just left the box on the bed. He had glanced at the other letters enough for him to realize that they were from boyfriends she'd had before his father and he did not want to read those; ever. He heard the front door shut and knew someone was home. By the footsteps he could tell it was his mother..no he thought to himself, Jessica, not his mother. He got up and headed back downstairs finding her in the kitchen putting beer into the fridge. "We need to talk," he said in a cold voice as he stood in the entrance to the kitchen.
Jessica sighed in aggravation at hearing his voice in the house again. She didn't know what he was doing in the house because she'd hoped to not have him back any time soon. Tony was too agitated when Xander was there and he became argumentative and abusive. Since Xander moved out things had been better between the two of them. She did not want things to go back to how they were so no matter what she would not let Xander ruin what was happening now. She looked at Xander while closing the fridge door. "What is it you want?"
"I want to know who Bellatrix Lestrange is to you and why did you help her in kidnapping me away from my parents?" Xander asked. It was only at that moment that he realized that no one from the group had mentioned his mother. He had to assume she'd died some time ago, still it was an assumption so he'd check with them later on it.
"So you found out," Jessica said as she moved to sit down at the table where she'd left a beer out. She opened it and took a swig before starting to talk. "Bellatrix is my sister-in-law. I was abandoned by my family when they found out I was a squib; that's someone who is born without magic in case you didn't know. They only raised me because my great-grandmother had a soft spot for me; if not for her I'm sure they would have either killed me or dumped me in some muggle orphanage. I was the only girl born in three generations so nana doted on me even if I couldn't do magic. Anyway, the rest of the family wanted nothing to do with me. When my great-grandmother passed away I inherited some money. The family made it quite clear that I should make myself scarce since they would not have a disgrace like me around to tarnish their good name so I moved to America. It was not easy to adapt but I managed. I met Tony and fell in love. A few years after I was married Bellatrix contacted me. Her cousin, Sirius, had just had a baby. The mother had died during childbirth and the boy was a squib like me. Bellatrix said he was going to kill the baby; many pureblooded families do that you know. Anyway, Bellatrix told me how she didn't want the baby to suffer; that it wasn't his fault that he was born without magic. She begged me to take the baby. She could get him out, but she needed to hide him some place. I knew what it was like to have family abandon you and I wasn't going to do that when I had the chance to prevent it. See the Lestranges and Blacks had intermarried a few times over the centuries making you family even if it was distant. I told her I would do it so I met with her and she gave you to me. Tony wasn't too pleased with being saddled with a baby, especially one that wasn't his, but I told him he had no choice."
"So that's why he's hated me and why you let him treat me the way he did all these years?" Xander sneered, "Because I wasn't his?" He couldn't believe she believed all that nonsense that came out of her mouth. Did she really think she'd taken him from a better situation and saved him? He really had to wonder how many cards short of a full deck she was.
"I couldn't stop him. What was I supposed to do?" Jessica stated. She took another drink her beer. She couldn't look at Xander at this point. "I did the best I could. If you don't like it, well, too bad. I'm not going to try to justify myself too you. At least you are alive which you wouldn't have been if it weren't for me."
"And you knew all these years about the dangers in this town didn't you?" Seeing the look on her face he knew he was right, she'd known and done nothing. "Why the hell didn't you at least warn me?" Xander asked. If he'd known earlier perhaps some things that had happened wouldn't have; like Jesse dying.
"Like you would have believed me? I knew if I told you Tony would find out and he would more than likely have me committed. I wasn't going to end up in some muggle loony bin," She told him. She then shrugged, "Besides you seemed to be able to take care of yourself. I don't see why you are complaining and whining the way you are."
"Gods, I really can't believe you," He told her. Between allowing Tony to use him as his personal punching bag and then not worrying about him with the demons and vampires in town Xander wanted to reach out and shake her or maybe even hit her, nevertheless he controlled himself. He refused to become like Tony Harris especially now that he knew they weren't related. He shook his head knowing she didn't want to hear any of this. "Just so you know I'm not a squib. It seems Bellatrix bound my powers. She played you. She was trying to hurt her cousin and used you to do it. I hope you can live with that, however, I'm sure you'll find some way to justify everything the two of you did. I never want to see you again," he told her with disgust dripping from his voice. He turned and stormed out of the house slamming the door as he went. He knew if he didn't walk away then he would do some form of violence against her. He was too angry and he didn't like being angry. It was times like this he usually tried to joke around, but at that moment he couldn't think of anything funny to say or do. He walked away, never looking back. He would have Severus break the block on his magic. He would do whatever he had to do in order to be a wizard, and he would somehow make Bellatrix pay for what she'd done. He'd make sure the woman got what she deserved. She'd kidnapped him, made his life hell while also making his father wonder and worry; only then to take his father's life when they could have finally had the chance to get to know one another. The bitch would pay no matter what he had to do. He knew it wouldn't be easy. That he had a great deal to learn, nonetheless he knew it would be worth it. As he continued to think, he walked not realizing where he was going until he arrived at the front of Spike's mausoleum. He pushed the door open wondering if Spike might be awake. He really needed someone he could talk to without having to worry about what he said.
Hearing the door Spike came out of the back area with just his jeans on. Seeing Xander he lifted an eyebrow, "Have another fight with the stupid bint?" He asked. He'd been listening to Xander for several weeks now and knew the boy was miserable with the ex-demon. He'd told Xander many times to just break up with her, that he deserved better, and that he needed to stand up for himself, so far it had all fallen on deaf ears. Perhaps today would be different, he thought. This was the first time Xander had shown up at his place during the day after all so he had the feeling that something major had to have happened.
"Oh that and more happened," Xander said as he came into the room and went over to the well used easy chair. He plopped down and looked over at Spike. "What do you know of wizards? I should say wizards from England since that is where they came from. Where I'm supposed to be from before I was kidnapped and where my parents were before they died. Where it seems there is a school for magic users and that Giles went there along with these guys. Oh and to top it off they say I am one too I just have to have my magic unblocked," He said all in a rush.
"Tap into Willow there did ya mate?" Spike asked as he flopped down in a chair across from Xander. He was trying to make sense of what all Xander had just said, except it was a bit confusing. "Let me get this straight. Some blokes claiming to be wizards say you were kidnapped arrived today and just sprung this on you?"
"Yeah, my father was someone named Sirius Black and my mother was Mary MacDonald I think the spell said," Xander said as he rubbed his face trying to remember what it had said.
"I know of the Black family, but I haven't been part of the Wizarding world since I was turned," Spike told him. He saw Xander's look and he shrugged. "I didn't really need magic. If I wanted something I just took what I wanted. That and well Angelus wasn't too fond of magic users so I put it to the side. Wasn't until I came here that I bothered with it again, however, I still haven't used it much. Don't have a wand anymore, would have to get that to be able to do most of what I learned."
"The one guy that came to find me kind of reminded me of you," Xander told him after a moment letting all that Spike said sink in. Seemed there was a lot about Spike he hadn't known. Of course Spike didn't really talk much about his life before he was turned and the Watcher journals didn't comment on it either. The only thing he'd really known was that Spike used to write poetry. "Draco Malfoy...made me think of you if you were a teenager that is," he explained.
"It's possible we are related. My birth name was Malfoy," Spike stated. Rubbing his chin he thought about the family and his name. It had been a long time since he had thought about the family, a very long time actually. "Not that I've used it since I was turned. Come to think of it I should still have an account at Gringotts. Wonder if I'm still getting the family allowance; might be something to check on. A few knuts here and there could come in handy. I think the closest branch is in LA."
"Yeah well that wasn't all they told us Spike," Xander said. He then went to explain what all Severus had told them about vampires and The Council. He still felt ill at the thought that he might have killed beings who were in fact innocent of any wrong doing. The fact that they had souls did that really make them any different than humans? Even if they were evil did they have the right to hunt them at all he wondered? Didn't it just make them vigilantes? All these thoughts started swirling in his head again as he explained the situation. He saw from the look on Spike's face that he'd not had a clue about the ritual either. "Ever feel like your whole world has been flipped around and now you have no clue what to do? That's kind of where I'm at right now."
"Yeah, trust me mate, I've been there," Spike told him. "So if Angel does this ritual I'll get my soul as well? Not sure I want that. Don't need to go around the twist like he did. Let alone become all broody and what not." This was the first he'd heard of this ritual as well, then again almost all of his information on being a vampire had come from Angelus. He was fairly sure Angelus had learned from Darla who had learned from the Master. It wasn't like you got a handbook when you were turned with all the rules and information.
Xander chuckled at that. "Somehow I can't picture you being all broody like Angel. I doubt you'd go all bonkers like he did since you've been fighting the good fight for a while now. You made the choice to fight against evil without a soul so I would think it would be easier. You've come to terms with all that. Then again what do I know right? I could be totally wrong, but I think it is something you should find out. I think having your soul would make things better."
Spike thought about what Xander was saying and he could see the point of it even if he was unsure of what would happen once he had a soul. He wasn't about to admit it despite what Xander said the thought was a bit scary. True he wasn't the big bad anymore, no matter how he kept saying he was. He had a reputation to maintain. He was not about to let anyone know he was afraid of anything. "So much for life being boring now huh?"
"No kidding and I have the feeling there is a lot more they have to tell us yet," Xander stated. He just hoped that whatever it was that Harry and his friends had to tell them was something they could handle. Right at that moment he felt like he had back when the Mayor was still around; as if there were a big evil out there to deal with that no one knew about it and they were scrambling to catch up. He hoped he was wrong about that but something in his gut was saying this was all just the beginning.
"Well than let's go find out what they have to say," Spike said. Standing up he grabbed his shirt to put on before putting on his boots and his usual duster. He started for the tunnels before stopping to look at Xander. Since it was summer it would be hours before the sun set so he had little choice but to go through the tunnels or bundle up like a mummy. "C'mon. I'm kind of curious to meet my relative and find out what has been happening with the family over the last hundred years or so."
"Yeah okay," Xander stated as he stood up. He moved to walk with him and started to fill him in on the fight he had with Anya. He explained that it was finally over between the two of them. As Xander told Spike all this he had the feeling that someone else was out there for him. He didn't mention this to Spike, however since he was fairly sure it was just wishful thinking on his part.
