Chapter 11
“Lucius? What's wrong?” Narcissa asked softly, sitting up and sliding to the edge of the bed where her husband was.
Sitting there, hands clasped between his spread knees, looking down at the floor, Lucius told her, “They're having sex.”
Brow furrowed, it took a few moments for Narcissa to process who he was talking about. Eyes widening, she looked at him and said, “Oh!” Blinking rapidly, she asked, softly, “How do you know?”
“I can feel it,” Lucius groaned, eyes tightly closed. Gritting his teeth, he felt his flesh throb madly, rock hard cock twitching in his silk pajama bottoms. Shaking his head, he explained, “It's not like I'm there or participating, but I can feel it and the pleasure. I can tell you exactly who is doing what to whom.”
Not sure what to say, Narcissa put her hand on her husband's shoulder and gave it a squeeze. “This is—it's progressing fast, Lucius! I mean, you only discovered the connection a couple days ago and now this—well, it's really solidified!”
“I know,” Lucius groaned, rubbing his eyes. “It bad, Narcissa! I mean—well, they seemed to understand it was coming and how fast it would develop. Nor, from some of what I'm getting, can they stop it either. I'm gathering Harry can shut the connection down to both of us for a short time, but not long. If he tries for too long, it causes him a great deal of pain. Black—he can't shut it off at all. Nor is what Potter doing Occluding, it's something else. Black even tried that and it doesn't work. Nor is my Occluding helping at all. If Harry wants something, he can get through easily.”
“How much can Harry pick up?” She asked quietly, rubbing her husband's tense shoulder. “And can Sirius pick up any?”
Looking sour, Lucius said, “Harry can actually find out anything he wants to know. He just doesn't do it. At least when it comes to myself and Black. Black has had him practicing on him to see what he can find. Harry—if it's there, he can find it with minimal effort. Sirius—I am picking up some things from him, just not like I am Harry. I think, actually, they know I can. They also know the connection is a two-way street and that, if I want, I can pass along some things to them.”
Turning slightly pale, Narcissa whispered, “Can Harry do that with anyone else? Find out anything he wants?”
“I'm not sure. And the only reason I'm not is he refuses to try to do it. I think the issue comes in that he doesn't want to know if he can because he feels like even what he's getting is an invasion of someone's privacy,” Lucius explained.
Nodding, at least a little relieved, Narcissa asked, “What is he getting, do you know?”
“I'm not sure,” Lucius told her, shaking his head. “I'm not exactly sure what 'gifts' he has. I know it's more than what I'm picking up from him because he and Black have talked about it telepathically. Just from those talks, it's another form of telepathy, such as visions of some kind. What version of that, I don't know.” Stopping, he looked at her then said, quietly, “It's the reason Black is all but glued to him. It helps, as they put it, 'dim' what is there so it's not so overwhelming. It's also why Lupin doesn't touch him. If he's touched, he is almost overwhelmed, at least that's what I’m gathering. Get with Draco tomorrow and make it clear not to touch him in any way. The same with yourself.”
“I will,” she told him firmly. “Lucius—what do we do? This—if he can pick up anything, he's going to figure out why we're here! That will put all of us in danger! If he knows it's at the behest of--” stopping, she gave him a look then pressed on, “he's not going to keep it to himself!”
Scrubbing a hand over his face, Lucius shook his head then told her, softly, “They know something, Narcissa, all three of them. The three of them are sharing what they know amongst themselves. I also have a feeling, though I don't know where it's from, that they aren't exactly in line with Dumbledore.” Stopping, he looked at the floor then told her, tone slightly distant, “They know something that could help us, more about what that prophecy means than we have. I don't know how they do either, but they are trying to figure out part of it. We—if we could convince them that we aren't here to harm or betray them and get what they do know, we could piece together what is going on. With whatever this is with myself—they seem to know what it is and were expecting it, though the fact it was me is the part that they didn't know.”
Not sure what to say about that, Narcissa just nodded, leaning against her husband. Sighing, she looked down then whispered, “What do we do now, Lucius?”
“I don't know,” he told her, rubbing his eyes. “This—whatever this connection is won't go away. It's just growing stronger with each passing day. We won't even talk about the pull it's exerting on me.”
“What do you mean?” She asked, rubbing his arm softly.
“It's taking everything I have to stay right here and not go join them,” he told her sourly. “There is an itch, that's the only way I know how to describe it, that is there which makes me want to stay close to them and touch them. It's growing stronger each passing day to the point it's almost overwhelming. It's almost like it's screaming for a completion of some kind.” Stopping, he looked at her then said, softly, “And they seem to be having the same issue with it because that's why they are having sex. Yes, it's because they want to, but whatever there is solidified between them and is helping them to deal with whatever this is. Among other things. I don't know—they seem to know what's going on more than I do and are doing it for that reason.”
“Lucius,” Narcissa sighed, leaning against him, taking his hand and giving it a squeeze. “I don't know what to say.”
Squeezing her hand back, he leaned his head against hers, shutting his eyes. Narcissa was someone he loved with all his heart, there was no doubt there, but not the way most would think. In fact, other than the times they stayed at other people's homes so that it wouldn't look odd, they had never shared a bed. Nor had they ever had sex, ever. She was his best friend in the world, someone that would always be with him and in that role, but she was his wife in name only. However, he adored her in a way that he couldn't explain to anyone and cherished her more than so many other men did their wives. After all, he saw her in a different way than they did their spouses and never took it for granted. It also made it so much easier on him to talk to her about certain topics that most wouldn't with their wives, like the need that was there. That helped.
Sighing, she said, quietly, “I think I need to pass this conversion on to Severus so he can get the information into the right hands. Between the two of them, they might be able to figure something out. Or at least a way to help block or deal with it.”
“I don't think there is anything, Narcissa,” he told her softly with a shake of her head. “It's something that I think only the completion of what it's pushing for is going to work. That means, if I'm correct, that we need help finding a way to convince them that we aren't here to betray them in any way and to trust us. And even with Severus' help, I'm not sure we can manage that one! His suggestions, though, might be helpful.”
“Understood,” Narcissa told him with a firm nod. “Let me pull the memory of this and send it off with an elf. We'll then go from there.”
Shaking badly as the two in the other room completed the act, Lucius gave a nod then excused himself to go the bathroom to take care of his erection.
Watching Lucius go, brow furrowed, Narcissa gave a soft sigh, rubbing her eyes. This was getting more complicated than they had originally planned! Standing, she moved over to the small desk there and quickly penned a note then pulled the memory. Calling the one elf that she trusted enough to attend to this kind of thing, she handed both to him then sent him off to Severus.
Sitting on the edge of the bed after Narcissa had gone back to sleep and he had tried, Lucius had his head down, trying to think what to do. The only thing that kept coming to mind was that if he could talk to Harry without Sirius around, he might be able to direct the young man to something that would prove that they weren't here to betray or use them. That, though, was easier said than done. He was certain that if he were to say anything to the young man, whatever it would be would then be directed to Black and the connection there would be activated.
Concentrating on the connection that was there, he could easily tell that both Harry and Black were asleep. However, by focusing on it, he was surprised to find that the connection with Harry, despite the fact that the young man was asleep, was active and he could pick up things from him, such as what he was dreaming. It wasn't much, and confusing as all dreams were, but he prodded the connection gently then said the young man's name softly, or what he hoped was as he wasn't used to dealing with the telepathic end of whatever this was yet.
After a couple times of saying his name, a slurred, sleepy reply came. “Yeah, Lucius? What do you want?”
Startled that he managed to gain Harry’s attention, Lucius focused on the young man, saying, “I know you're tired, but I wanted to talk to you alone.”
“What about?” Harry asked, his sleeping brain focusing on the connection and the dreams he was having slid into the background.
“We aren't here to betray any of you, Harry,” Lucius told him firmly. “Nor are we here to hurt any of you residing in the house.”
“I know,” Harry told him, shifting around in his sleep, curling up tighter to Sirius. “You aren't here for the reason you say you are, but it's not anything to harm us.”
Stunned, Lucius blinked a couple times, not sure what to make of that. “How do you know?”
“I don't know, I just do,” Harry told him.
Nodding to himself, Lucius fought the urge to ask if the young many knew why they were here. He didn't, though. If Harry didn't, that would lead to questions Lucius didn't want to answer. Shifting topics, he said, “Do you understand some of what is happening? I don't. From what I'm picking up from you and Sirius, you seemed to have anticipated some of it.”
“You're the third we were told about,” Harry explained. “The rest—it's the same as what came with Sirius.” Stopping, Harry shifted slightly, draping an arm over his godfather, then said, “You know about that, though, because you can pick up things from him as well.”
“Is there a way to shut it down for me or Sirius, Harry? I know you can, but I haven't been able to.”
“Not that I know of,” Harry told him with a sigh. “Sirius hasn't managed and we've tried everything we can think of to shut it down. I can for a little while, but not long. If I keep it shut too long, it hurts.”
“You've tried Occluding?”
“It doesn't work. Not even a little bit,” Harry explained. “That's the first thing we tried.”
Rubbing his face, Lucius groaned. “This is confusing, Harry.”
“You don't have to tell me that,” Harry grumbled. “I don't want the connections, you know!”
“I understand,” Lucius soothed. “I'm just trying to deal with what is here. Earlier—I felt it, Harry. It wasn't the same as doing it, of course, but I could feel it all and it was like I was there.”
“I know,” Harry sighed. “I can't shut that part off, even though I want to. We—it helps stop the creepy-crawlies because it strengthens what is there as it's not complete,” Harry explained. “We weren't doing it to torment you.”
“You're feeling the pull as well? Both of you?” Lucius asked, pleased to get some answers at least.
“Both of us,” Harry told him. “We went through this when Sirius and I were separated before summer break.”
“What causes it, do you know?” Lucius asked, standing up and walking into the small sitting room adjacent to the bedroom. Taking a seat on one of the chairs, he leaned forward, eyes shut.
“The bond that wants completed. You're the third and it wants to add you.”
“What kind of bond, do you know? What's it from?”
“I don't know. We haven't been able to find it anywhere. It comes from—I don't think we should talk about that right now. No offense, but until I know just what is going on with you lot, I’m not explaining it all,” Harry told him.
That part told Lucius that though Harry was asleep, he was cognizant enough to know there were certain areas where he shouldn't go and getting some answers just wasn’t going to happen yet. “Alright, I understand,” Lucius said. “How do I stop the itchy feeling, Harry? It's uncomfortable.”
“Touching makes it stop,” Harry told him. “When the bond completes, it goes away.”
Sighing, scrubbing a hand over his face, Lucius wasn’t sure what to do now. If that was the only thing, he was more than willing. He just wasn't sure if Harry or Black would allow it. Especially Black. “Harry--” he started, not sure what to say. After a minute, he pressed on, “It needs to stop, even for a while. It's very uncomfortable. Can you talk to Sirius about letting me touching you?”
“I'll talk to him. It's uncomfortable for us too,” Harry sighed.
“Harry, how do I prove to both of you that we aren't here to hurt or betray any of you? I swear we aren't. We just need you to trust us is all.”
“I don't know,” Harry said honestly. “If you're not going to tell us just what is going on, I can't. Nor will Sirius.”
“It's not that simple,” Lucius sighed. Oh, it wasn't! If they did give up just why they were here, not to mention the invocation of the Dark Lord's name, there would be even bigger problems. “Let us try, please! We won't hurt any of you.”
“You can try, but until we know what is going on, not much is going to work,” Harry told him simply.
Understanding that, Lucius leaned back and shut his eyes, rubbing them. Deciding to shift to another topic, he asked, “Just what can you do besides this, Harry?”
Though asleep, Harry was with it enough to know what to be cautious of. This was that area. Gently prodding the connection with his godfather, something that was active when he was asleep, just not as powerful as his version was, he asked Sirius what to say about that, knowing he had been paying attention to the conversation.
Sirius was very aware of what was going on. As the main part of the connection was Harry, only he could really hold a conversation with the both of them while asleep. He could talk to Harry, of course, but not Lucius, at least not yet. Thinking it over, Sirius told his godson to go ahead.
As best as he could, Harry explained what he could do then finished with, “Remus said he thinks there are two more so-called gifts coming; psychometry and clairvoyance. I don't want them!”
Stunned, eyes wide, Lucius wasn't sure what to say or even what questions to ask. Shaking slightly at the magnitude of what the young man could do, and what it could mean for all of them, Lucius was fumbling. Finally, he asked the first thing that came to mind, “Can you do to anyone else what Sirius is having you do? Fishing for information? Or do you know?”
“I can, easily. I just won't!” Harry told him emphatically.
“If you won't, how do you know you can?” Lucius inquired, puzzled.
“Because I could with you or Sirius. You're both harder because I don't get the visions or talking from you. It's harder for me to do anything but what I am now,” Harry explained. “I won't do it though! That's invading someone's privacy.”
Thankful that Harry was a moral being and wasn't about to use what was there to his advantage, Lucius sighed, not sure what to say about that. After a couple minutes of thinking it over, he said, “Harry, let's get Severus involved. He can help, I promise. He might not be able to figure it all out, but he can work with some of it. Maybe he'll know where to look.”
“No Snape!” Harry told him, panicked.
“I promise, I won't let him act like he does in school,” Lucius soothed, assuming that was the problem.
“No, not that! Him and Dumbledore—I can't be around them. They make my head hurt, badly. It's so bad, Sirius feels it. No, they need to stay away!”
Brow furrowed, Lucius was curious about that. “Why, do you know?”
“I don't know. We can't figure it out. It's just those two so far. Everyone else is fine. They—it hurts. You'll understand the first time he's around,” Harry sighed.
“Alright,” Lucius soothed, completely confused. Rubbing his eyes, he wasn't sure what else to ask the young man. There was so much information he wanted, but knew until he could give them some of what was going on, he wasn't going to get answers to many of them. However, sitting there, he could feel that 'itch'. It seemed to be worse than normal. He supposed that was because he was talking to the young man, something that had to be strengthening what was already there. Sighing, he rubbed his arms, not sure what to do.
“The creepy-crawlies are bothering you, aren't they?” Harry asked, gently.
“Yes,” Lucius told him, tone dour. “Are they you?”
“It's bothering Sirius and I as well,” Harry admitted.
Putting his head in his hands, gritting his teeth, Lucius didn't know what to do. He felt like, honestly, he was going mad. This—it was driving him nuts. Leaning back after a couple minutes, he rubbed his arms and sighed. Brow furrowing when he felt the connection cut, he was wondering what was going on when he felt it activate again. “Harry?” He asked softly.
“Sirius said to come stay in here if you can make an excuse for Narcissa. Because you're driving both of us mad,” Harry sighed.
Standing, Lucius quickly conjured a quill then found a scrap of parchment. Writing out a note for Narcissa, he left it on the table by the bed then, putting on his robe, he made his way down the hall. “Sirius knows what's going on?” Lucius asked softly.
“He heard the whole thing. It's—the connection is through me so he couldn't say anything. He heard it though,” Harry explained.
Nodding, Lucius stepped up to Black's door. Without even thinking about it, he let himself in then stood there, looking at the bed. Black was awake, rubbing his eyes, looking at him. Potter, though, was still sound asleep. Shaking his head, letting out a sigh, lifting his chin then said, softly, “How do you want to do this.”
Looking at him, holding Harry close, Sirius said, “Just crawl in bed and touch Harry. That should end it.”
Without even thinking about it, Lucius did as he was told, curling up to the back of Harry. Almost immediately, the 'itching' stopped, making him sigh. Draping an arm over Potter, he shut his eyes, pressing tightly to him.
“It goes no further than this until Harry says so,” Sirius warned quietly. “We—he--” stopping, he rubbed his eyes then shook his head, “We just can't take the feeling anymore and he doesn't want you to suffer.”
“Understood,” Lucius said, feeling far more relaxed than he had since first brushing up against Harry. Holding the young man, he quickly drifted off.
Looking down at Lucius, Sirius, too, felt more relaxed than he had for a long time. That drive—since Malfoy had activated whatever this nightmare was, it was pulling all of them. Tonight, the creepy-crawlies had been worse than what he dealt with when it came to Harry while he was at school. Not wanting to think about the ramifications of what could come of this, he shoved it aside then shifted down into the bed. Rolling on his side, he pulled Harry close and shut his eyes once more. Tomorrow he would deal with the consequences of the decision he made. Now—he couldn't be arsed to care right now. Sighing softly, he began to doze off again.
Pulling his head out of the Pensive, Tom looked at Severus. Shaking his head, he said, “They need help. I think, maybe, it's time for you to assist. Unless you have something that can help another way.”
Having seen the memory before bringing it over, Severus nodded slowly, “I believe I need to step in. How? I don't know. Lupin and Black—they are not going to trust me. Especially Black. The history there—it will make anything I attempt rough.”
Sitting back down in his chair, Tom sighed, rubbing a finger over his upper lip. “Get with Lucius alone first. You can see if he's learned anything more since this conversation. Plus, he might be able to clarify some of what he said more. Go from there with any plans. Like with Lucius and Narcissa, I'll leave it to you to judge what best to or how to go about it. This—it's not something we can make plans for, Severus.”
“No, it's not. However, I would like to mention that if Lucius Occluding is doing no good, it may put me in danger as well. After all, if Potter can pick up on some things, he may from me as well.”
“It's a risk I think we have to take, Severus. After all, the main reason you are doing what you are is to protect Potter,” Tom told him. Shaking his head, he said, tone thoughtful, “This may be the reason that I can't block the connection with Potter. I was Occluding as well. If it's ineffective, it wouldn't work for that either.”
Not having thought about that, Severus nodded. Rubbing his eyes, he said, “Dumbledore is in France for the next couple days working with someone or other on something he wants them to do. Let me pop over tomorrow and see what I can work with from there. At the very least, I might be able to get a feel for what needs to be done or how I can help. For certain, I'll pull Lucius aside to get his version of what's going on and how it might have changed since this memory. From there, I can better judge what is required.”
“Very good,” Tom nodded. “Let me know what's going on and if I can assist.”
Standing, taking the memory back so that he could return it to Narcissa, Snape said, “I'll fill you in when I know something.” Seeing the Dark Lord nod, he then swept out, making plans as to what was necessary to handle this delicate situation.
