Harry James Potter was in no way avoiding one Draco Malfoy like the plague. Just because he found new ways to get to his classes and came to each meal as late as he could get away with (when Draco was sure to be done and gone himself) didn’t prove anything. Nor did it prove anything that Harry suddenly had to backtrack to another area of the school or was suddenly in the middle of a terribly interesting conversation whenever he did cross Draco’s path in the halls. Nope, he was definitely, most assuredly, absolutely not avoiding anyone.
And since he wasn’t avoiding anyone, he had absolutely no reason to feel guilty about doing it. You can’t feel guilty for something you haven’t done, right? Harry glanced up at the other side of the Great Hall where the Slytherin table was unusually tense and silent. It had been just a few weeks since the incident in the library and just yesterday the rumors about Draco’s distorted figure had reached an all time high. There had been speculation that it was because of everything from an eating disorder to a nasty digestive worm infestation. But once it became clear that it wasn’t going away and all of the weight Draco was putting on settled across his abdomen the rumors of pregnancy began to be heard more and more. Yesterday, Draco had finally admitted it to his common room apparently and from there it swept through the school spectacularly.Harry turned his attention back to his food though he wasn’t all that hungry. He could hear random tidbits of conversations and about three fourths were about Draco and his ‘scandal’. Harry hadn’t really considered it would be a scandal. After all, Draco had been raped and that was hardly his fault. But apparently, in the wizarding world, because potions kept unwanted pregnancies at bay much more effectively, teenage pregnancy was even more taboo than in the muggle world. It was made a double scandal from the fact that Draco was a boy and that meant the pregnancy was only possible through magic (meaning it was intentional). It was raised to a triple scandal from the fact that he was pure blood elitist and there was no way to tell who the ‘father’ of the baby was. The chance of the baby being a pure blood was slim to none and even if it was it would be impossible to prove. And all of that combined to leaving the entire Slytherin table very tense around Draco. The blonde was sitting in his usual seat in the middle of the table but, other than his usual bodyguards of Crabbe and Goyle, nobody even seemed to acknowledge that he was there. Nobody was speaking to him or even looking at him and knowing that Draco was being shunned made Harry uncomfortable. Draco, for his part, seemed to be handling it fairly well, except that Harry could spot how stiff the blonde was sitting and how squared his shoulders were at all times. The boy-who-lived was willing to bet a dragon that the Malfoy heir was putting on a stronger front than he was actually feeling. The call of hundreds of owls suddenly filled the hall and Harry looked up. The mail was its usual chaotic scene but one distinctly blood red envelope caught his attention. Who on earth-Harry’s eyes widened when the owl dropped the ominous red envelope in front of Draco. Draco never got Howlers. Draco just stared down at the envelope for a moment, not looking as surprised as Harry would have thought. Instead of shocked, he just looked like he’d tried to swallow a whole Quaffle. Draco reached for the envelope and barely touched it before it burst open.A voice Harry didn’t recognize exploded to life. “How dare you disgrace this family! Blood traitor! You don’t deserve to carry the name Malfoy! You are stricken from the family! Don’t even think of setting foot on Malfoy property again!” The voice echoed throughout the entire hall before the howler burst into flames and ashes fell into Draco’s breakfast. There was a heavy silence throughout the hall. Though the Howler had been short it had been harsh and very much to the point. Draco sat in his seat for a few moments but when the silence continued to linger despite a few people struggling to break it, Draco seemed to reach his limit. He abruptly got to his feet and left the hall. Crabbe and Goyle scrambled to follow him. Harry himself was in a bit of shock. He never would have expected something like that. It wasn’t Draco’s fault!Harry got up from his seat and left the Great Hall. He couldn’t imagine someone as proud as Draco Malfoy taking being denounced so publicly well. The other Slytherins were sure to react in kind. Especially after Draco was called something like a blood traitor. That was not something that they would take lightly. It wasn’t hard to figure out where Draco went. Crabbe and Goyle were standing guard outside of the boy’s bathroom looking uncomfortable but determined. Harry went straight up to them, not in the least intimidated despite them being bigger. “Let me in,” Harry said.“Draco said to not let anyone in,” Goyle replied.“He doesn’t want to be your laughing stock,” Crabbe added.Harry gave them both a glare. “You really think I’d laugh at him?” Harry demanded. “Just let me in. You really think it’s smart to leave him alone after something like that?”The two behemoths exchanged uneasy glances before shaking their heads a little. “You hurt him and we’ll beat you to a pulp, Potter,” Crabbe threatened before the two of them stepped out of the way.“I won’t hurt him,” Harry assured them before going into the bathroom. He didn’t spot Draco right away but it didn’t take long to find him. He could hear the blonde despite obvious attempts on Draco’s part to remain quiet. Harry felt awkward as he approached the last stall in the row where the crying was coming from. It didn’t sound right to hear someone like Draco crying. Harry knocked gently on the door to the stall. “Draco?”The crying abruptly stopped. “Go away, Potter.”“I’m not leaving you like this,” Harry replied. “They shouldn’t have done that to you, Draco. They were wrong to put the blame on you and say what they did.”There was a pause before the door was abruptly ripped open. Harry was surprised to see the blonde with mussed hair and red-rimmed eyes glaring at him. “You idiot! They had to do that!” he hissed despite the tears still building around his eyelids and threatening to escape his lashes.Harry took a quick step back. “They didn’t!” Harry protested. “You’re their son! They should support you!”“Moron! They can’t do that! Just think about the people our family works with! They’d never get away with mudblood grandchild!” Draco snapped. “Why do you think they did it that way? Nobody can say that they condone this now and they’re safe!”“But you’re not!” Harry snapped back. “Like the other Slytherins will lay off you after that? Where the hell will you even go if you aren’t allowed home?” Harry wanted to know.Draco flinched slightly but he continued to glare. “Don’t act like you know anything about Slytherins. Besides… I won’t be in the dorm come next week,” Draco said before turning to go to the sink. Harry frowned in confusion as Draco turned on the faucet. “Why do you look so confused, Potter?” Draco asked before splashing some water on his reddened face. “You think the rest of the dorm wants to deal with a crying baby during finals?”“If you aren’t going to be in the dorm though… Where will you be?” Harry asked in confusion.“Private room. Originally supposed to be for one of the teachers but the Headmaster is letting me use it while I’m in school,” Draco supplied. “Back when the school was first built it wasn’t as odd to have students knocked up. Early marriage ages and all that…”There was a long silence. “Whose voice was that in the Howler?” Harry asked after a minute.“Our lawyer,” Draco answered with a heavy sigh. “More official and I don’t think Mum could have said that without crying. Father wouldn’t have been able to do it either.”Harry felt a little foolish for thinking that it would be easy for Draco’s parents to disown him. Despite their, in Harry’s mind, backwards thinking, they clearly spoiled Draco rotten. It was just like Dudley in a way. Harry couldn’t imagine his aunt and uncle disowning the whale of a boy no matter what he did or said either. Harry had just assumed that since the Malfoys seemed so cold in public that they would be cold in private as well. “What are you going to do then?” Harry asked softly. “Once we’re out of school you won’t have anywhere to go…”“There’s an old family cottage in the country. Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too small and… homely. Mum was tired of it so she sold it to Goyle’s Aunt about a month ago. I’ve already arranged to stay there since she’s almost always off traveling somewhere or in her London flat,” Draco answered as he dried off his face. “Money is really the biggest issue. I have some in a separate account but I won’t be able to get more until I get an actual job…”Harry blinked a little before it dawned on him that it was all far too convenient. “This was planned…” he stated in awe.“Of course it was planned, Potter,” Draco said in annoyance. “You think my parents didn’t know I was pregnant before this? They’ve known since before I came back to school. I’ve known this would have to happen. I’ll be fine.”Harry frowned. “That’s why you ran to the bathroom to cry,” he stated in disbelief.Draco glared at the other boy. “That’s purely hormones!” he hissed.“I don’t believe you. Just because you knew this would happen doesn’t mean it’s any easier to hear what you just did,” Harry pointed out. “It’s alright to be upset about it you know. Probably healthier than pretending it’s all alright when it’s not.”“Like you’re one to talk about healthy behavior, Mr. Obsessive,” Draco grumbled. “Why did you even follow me in here, anyway? I was sure I’d seen the last of you after what happened in the library.”“I’m not going to abandon you, Draco,” Harry stated, folding his arms over his chest.“You don’t owe me anything, Potter. I’m not your friend and I never have been,” Draco pointed out in annoyance. “You don’t have to come swooping in to save me. As you heard I have everything under control.”Harry sighed and ran a hand through his messy hair. “Can I just ask you something then?”“Fine, if it’ll get you to leave me alone again,” Draco answered moodily.“Why are you keeping it?” Harry asked. Draco looked confused for a moment before his hands went to his bump. “If you knew before even coming back to school, you could have dealt with this without anyone knowing about it. But you didn’t. Why? And why even come back to school if you could have kept it quiet at home?”Draco suddenly seemed to find the floor very interesting. “Father wanted me to so that I wouldn’t have to deal with this. But, I couldn’t run away from this,” Draco murmured after a few moments. “I couldn’t kill him and I knew I couldn’t hide him and force him to live in shame as a son I’d never be able to acknowledge. It might strike you as odd, Potter, but Malfoy’s don’t just abandon our children.”“Even if you didn’t want one?” Harry asked.Draco nodded. “He’s mine and that’s the important thing.”Harry studied the blonde before the overwhelming urge to be close to him again started to surge upwards. It was like before at the library. He wanted to comfort the blonde who was clearly putting on a brave face despite what had happened. He was hurting and that just wasn’t something Harry could ignore. Before he realized what was happening, Harry had pulled the blonde into a hug. Draco struggled in Harry’s arms but the black haired teen wasn’t letting him go. “It’s alright, Draco,” Harry murmured, causing the blonde to suddenly still. “You’re strong enough for this.”Draco pushed against Harry’s chest again but not enough to break the hold. “You shouldn’t say what you don’t mean.”“I do mean it,” Harry argued. “You’re a lot different than I thought you were. I wish I’d known this side of you sooner. I like him more.” Draco was glad the taller boy couldn’t see his face just then because he was certain that his face turned into a cherry at such a statement.“You shouldn’t put the moves on a pregnant person,” Malfoy grumbled.Harry didn’t react like Draco thought he would. Instead of pushing the blonde away, his grip only got tighter. “Says who?” he asked quietly. “Maybe you’re more attractive now that you aren’t acting like a spoiled brat every moment of the day.”Draco’s eyes widened and he pushed at Harry again. This time he managed to get free. “Don’t play with me, Potter. I won’t be your little toy!”“I don’t want a toy,” Harry protested. “I just don’t want you to be alone as much. That’s not so terrible.”“It is when you’ll just drop me once the baby’s born!” Draco hissed. “I’m pregnant, not delusional!”Harry reached out and grabbed Draco’s pretty but angry face. “I won’t ‘just drop’ you,” he insisted before pulling Draco forward into a kiss. The blonde struggled for a moment but Harry was insistent. Draco kept his mouth firmly shut as Harry kissed him but he slowly stopped struggling to free himself. It wasn’t working and Harry’s lips didn’t feel that bad. Harry pulled away from the kiss and wrapped Draco into a hug. “Even if the Slytherin’s leave you alone… not everyone will. Let me help you. Please, Draco.”“I don’t want your pity,” Draco muttered against Harry’s shoulder.“It’s not pity. I want to do it because you shouldn’t be forced to be alone. You’re doing a brave thing and I only want to help you do it,” Harry reasoned. “I promise, I won’t do anything you don’t want.”Draco sighed heavily against Harry’s chest. “You’re so damn stubborn…” Harry smiled a little before kissing Draco’s forehead. “Merlin, Potter, don’t be so mushy,” he grumbled. Harry just smiled a bit wider at that. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
