-Sticks and Stones-
Walking through the Muggle streets, glad to be away from the Wizarding world for a few hours, 23 year old Harry Potter hoped that he would avoid any recognition while he was out and about. While it was rare, it sometimes he was still spotted by some Muggleborn who was in the area and they ended up approaching him.
As he rounded a corner, Harry heard sniffling and loud voices jeering. Walking a little quicker, he came upon a group of four boys. Three of them were standing over the fourth, pushing him around and shouting mean things at him.
"Freak! You're a monster! No one is going to want you. Your own parents didn't even want you that's why they left you at the orphanage." The tallest boy shouted, shoving the small blond haired boy back onto the ground.
"Hey that's enough!" Harry shouted, moving forwards, pushing his way past the three others and kneeling down by the quietly sobbing boy. "You three get out of here now."
The three boys, who paled at his arrival, turned and ran off, one of the shouting about how he knew it was a bad idea.
Looking down at the blond, Harry helped him stand up and brushed off the dirt on him and asked, "Are you alright? Did they hurt you badly?"
Rubbing at his tear-filled blue eyes, the boy said, "No it was just stupid words. Words aren't supposed to hurt."
Giving a sad smile, Harry said, "They're not supposed to, but I know that words can hurt just as much as getting pushed to the ground. That whole saying that 'sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me' isn't very true sometimes when people know what words will hurt you the most."
Muffling a sob, the boy just rubbed at his eyes even more. "But they were right. I do weird things. That's why my parent's left me mister."
"What's your name?" Harry asked, reaching out to rub the boy's back, feeling horrible for the boy.
"Matthew. Ryan and his friend's call me Monster Matt because of the weird things I do."
"What kind of weird things?" Harry asked, feeling as though he already knew the answer.
"I make weird things happen. I once made my teddy bear come to me after Ryan put it on top of the tallest bookshelf at the orphanage."
"Matthew you aren't a monster for what you can do. I promise you that. Matthew, do you know what your parent's last name was?" Harry asked.
"I don't know, I got left there when I was three." Matthew said, looking sad.
"Okay that's no problem." Standing up, Harry gently picked Matthew up and said, "I'm going to bring you back to the orphanage now but, if it's okay with you, I'd like to see about adopting you. Making you my son." Harry said, knowing this boy was a Wizard and what kind of life he'd have if he stayed out in this world with hatred around him.
"But what about the weird things I can do?" Matthew asked, trying not to look hopeful.
"I can do those kind of things too." Harry said with a whisper. "It's a secret though so I can't show you any right now." Harry said, nodding towards the Muggles walking around.
"Oh I think I'm good at keeping secrets." Matthew said, sounding excited.
"That's good Matt...can I call you Matt?"
Nodding, Matthew said, "I'd like to come live with you...would you teach me more about what we can do?" He asked, hesitantly holding out his hand for Harry to take.
"I can and I will." Harry said with a soft smile, taking the small hand in his own. "Now we need to get back to your home so we can see about you coming to live with me."
Nodding, Matthew started down the street , pulling Harry along, the tears and sadness gone from his face.
Smiling at the bouncing child, Harry mentally made a list of all the Wizarding officials he'd need to contact so he could get custody of Matthew...he was glad he'd be able to use his name to make it all a little quicker.
