Author’s Note – Firstly, I have to say thank you to everyone who left such kind and supportive reviews. It amazed me how many of you have been so loyal as to wait this long for an update, and I’m thankful for all of you! You guys are incredible and absolutely are the best readers a writer could ask for.
Secondly, to the reviewer who decided to go on a rant about slash and my so-called playing games with my readers in that I haven’t said if this story will be slash as well as commenting on my author’s notes about the comments? When I write a story, it goes one of two ways – one, I know exactly what the pairing will be and how the tale will end or two, I just have a whisper of an idea and work with it. “Remaking Destiny” was born of a whisper of an idea, and I have no idea where this story will take me. Do I know who the pairings will be? Nope, not a clue so I’m waiting to see just like you are. I have not, in your words, “been fanning the flames” in regards to some of the reviews that were left. Next time, please log in so I can address your reviews privately instead of publicly like this.

Chapter Eleven – Explanations and More Plotting
Remus had not been sure as to how he would be received when he entered the home of Callidora Longbottom. He was hopeful that he would be welcomed, even if it was coolly, so that he could see his cub and help with keeping the little ones safe. However, the reception he’d been given had taken him aback, especially once he found out that all of the adults were very aware of his little furry problem.
Callidora, Narcissa, Walburga, and Lucius had welcomed him warmly, and he was escorted to a family parlor so that they could discuss everything to ensure Sirius had not forgotten anything during the conversation in the Leaky Cauldron.
Remus forgot about his tea, listening to everything eagerly and with growing rage. His inner wolf was raging against the actions against his pack, and he was hanging onto his control because he didn’t want to act inappropriately.
Narcissa handed him a calming potion, which he recognized by the scent, and he downed it without question. If Sirius trusted her, then he could as well. The potion quickly calmed him, and the werewolf sighed.
“Thank you, Lady Malfoy.”
“Narcissa,” she said with a gentle smile. “Sirius insists you are family to him, which makes you family to all of us.”
That actually brought a question to mind, and his amber eyes turned to Walburga. The dowager knew what he was thinking and nodded, giving a quiet sigh.
“Ask your question, Mr. Lupin,” she said. “I believe I know what it is and you, of all people, deserve to hear the answer along with my son.”
“You treated him abominably,” the sandy haired man said, potion keeping his anger in check. “I can’t tell you how many times we had to calm him down after one of your letters or help him whenever he had to go home before he went to the Potters. For Merlin’s sake, you burned him off of the family tapestry and tried to disown him when he went into Gryffindor and then refused to take the mark to become one of Voldemort’s slaves. Why are you treating him so well now?”
Sirius said nothing, accepting Narcissa’s hand when she rested one of hers over his to help comfort him. She and Lucius knew how badly the dowager had treated her son, and the baroness had done her best to help him when she could.
“I will die with a great deal of guilt on my soul, young man,” Walburga began, knowing her eldest son’s best friend had every right to ask these questions of her. “I treated both of my sons horribly, and I will never forgive myself for it. Regulus died without ever knowing how much I loved him and was proud of him. I loathe myself for pushing him to kneel at that horrible man’s feet. That loathing is even greater knowing how much I hurt Sirius.”
Sirius said nothing, eyes dark with pain as he listened to his mother’s words. She’d spoke to him about some of these things but that she was baring her soul before others meant that she truly felt remorse for her actions in the past.
“My actions became worse when I did nothing after my only living son was taken prisoner. It was only Callidora’s harsh words that reached through the blank shield my grief caused, and I knew I had to be what I should have been so long ago. I am a mother; Mother Magic entrusted these souls to me to raise to become good men and though Sirius is grown, I will provide my aid to him and to our family in any way I can. Harkin, Neville, and Draco will benefit from my knowledge and support as much as Sirius and the others allow. I will not fail the next generation as I have the one prior to it.”
Remus stared at her for a long moment; her scent told him that she was telling him the truth. The wolf inside of him was wary but acknowledged that she was hiding nothing from him at this point in time. His lips tightened for a moment before he spoke.
“Forgiveness is something only Sirius can provide,” he said, voice grim. “However, I will wait to see if you remain honorable in your desire to aid this pack or if you will fall into the bad habits you demonstrated over the years. If you do, not even Sirius will be able to hold me back if you harm a member of my pack again.”
Walburga lowered her head, accepting the words of the werewolf. She and the others knew of Lupin’s condition, and she had accepted it once she’d researched the problems. She knew, from her son’s words, that the young man ensured he was isolated during the full moons. No one would come to harm from the wolf’s claws or fangs as long as they were not a danger to the pack or family being formed. In truth, she respected him for it and hoped that, one day, she would be considered pack as well.
“You speak fairly, Mr. Lupin,” she said softly. “I will swear an oath to Mother Magic if that would ease things for my son, you, and for the others here.”
“I can’t demand an oath from you,” he told her. “Only Sirius or the others can do so since they share your blood. But know I will keep an eye on you. The cubs will not come to harm.”
It was strange to Remus that his wolf side had accepted Draco and Neville so quickly as pack, but he had learned not to question Moony since the wolf had a good judge of character for the most part. He knew the bond would be solidified once he was able to see the two babies in question, and he was resolved to ensure all three boys had a happy, fulfilling life.
“They will not come to harm,” she promised. “On my magic and my soul, I will never do anything to cause them pain or heartache. I am here to help them become the incredible wizards they are meant to be and if we can help get some things right in our world while we do this, that’ll be even better.”
Remus nodded, accepting her words. Time would show if she was genuine in her actions and words, and he would do all he could to ensure that the cubs were kept safe.
“In the meantime, Mr. Lupin, I was hoping we could converse about a few things,” Lucius said, changing the subject.
“About what, Lord Malfoy?”
“Lucius,” he offered before continuing. “As you know, we are doing our best to ensure the boys are prepared for whatever life will throw at them. At the moment, it’s more keeping Dumbledore away from Harkin and Neville until they are ready to handle the manipulations he will attempt. I have no doubt we will do our best to destroy his power-base before them, but it is best to be prepared. Especially since we have no idea if the Dark Lord was truly destroyed or not.”
The werewolf nodded again, taking a sip of the tea that had been poured for him.
“We would like to offer you the opportunity to assist us in this. Even though the boys are young, we would like for you to be their tutor once they are old enough. Sirius has assured us that you are well versed in many subjects, having gotten quite a few NEWTs before graduating.”
“What would I do in the meantime?”
“Sirius could use an assistant since he is running both his estate and young Harkin’s,” Lucius answered. “I will be helping him with all I can since both estates are vast. He and I will need assistance, and he suggested that you would be willing to do such a thing until the boys are ready for lessons.”
“It’ll be a group effort when they’re ready for educating,” Narcissa interjected. “At first, it’ll be the basics in regards to reading, writing, mathematics, and other subjects. We would like to add the theory behind most subjects taught before they are old enough to attend school. Once they’re well versed, we will get them wands to practice with since the wards will hide anything they do.”
“I will teach potions,” Walburga said softly. “As well as working with Narcissa on etiquette. Being heirs, the boys will need to know how to comport themselves in any situation.”
“Arithmancy and ancient runes,” the younger witch added. “Those were my focal points for getting a mastery. I hope to finish those now the war is over.”
“Along with Sirius, I will be teaching estate management, government, and history,” Lucius shared, setting his empty tea cup down.
“I’ll be teaching transfiguration,” Sirius said, watching his friend. “We were hoping you’d be willing to teach defense as well as charms since those were your best subjects. All of us will be teaching dueling together since we each have our own style.”
“Of course, you will be taking sick leave for your monthly transformation,” the baron commented. “Each estate will have a safe area for you to run with Sirius where no one will be harmed.”
“You won’t ask me to try the potion,” he asked, curious since he knew that most people were determined to have werewolves drink the new Wolfsbane potion that had recently been developed.
“Merlin no,” Walburga answered sharply. “That is nothing but poison. In truth, Mr. Lupin, you would be better off coming to terms with your wolf and spend time with my son in his animagus form during the full moon. I will never agree to brewing such an abomination as that potion. What Belby was thinking, I will never know.”
Well, that was a surprise for him and it wasn’t one he’d actually heard about before. Remus had been assured by many articles that the potion was safe, and he was quick to question that.
“Oh those articles are designed to make sure the potion sells, and it’s not as if the Ministry really takes a look at what the ingredients do,” the dowager said with a glare. “In truth, it works but it poisons the drinker from the inside. A lot of what’s in it is fatal to a werewolf in larger doses, and the potion doesn’t purge from a body as quickly as others. I’ve already sent in my research to Belby, but I doubt he’s read any of the letters.”
“We will have to find a way to spread the word,” Sirius said, sounding grim. “It doesn’t seem correct for a potions master to ignore things like this unless the results suit the needs of someone else.”
“I believe you’re right, son,” she answered. “I will do my best to continue to spread the information and hopefully, someone will listen and ensure things are shared properly. There’s no sense in poisoning a group of people because of a condition they didn’t ask for.”
That seemed to soothe something inside of Remus, who allowed Narcissa to refill his cup once again. He’d been given a lot of things to think about, and he sighed as he contemplated everything that had been shared during this meeting.
“It seems we have a lot to do,” he said. “The feud against Dumbledore will be a challenge. Have you any plans regarding that?”
“The plan to remove his power base will take time to enact,” Lucius began. “Firstly, we’ll need to get the Board on our side and return Hogwarts to the premiere school of magic she once was. The school’s reputation has steadily declined since he took over as headmaster, and we will have to ensure everyone knows what he has done. Secondly, we will need to erode his popularity with the masses.”
“That will not be an easy task,” Remus commented, knowing just how well loved the man was due to his actions with Grindlewald.
“No, it will not be but we are willing to be patient.”
“What about his positions with the Wizengamot and the ICW,” he asked. “He has way too much power for one man, and I dislike knowing he has so much influence in our government as well as internationally.”
“That will take considerably more planning,” Callidora stated, speaking for the first time. “Beauchamp may have ideas as to how to handle this particular task in front of us. We’ll be able to speak more about it when he and Augusta return home on Saturday.”
“He’s on board with us,” the werewolf asked, a bit startled by that piece of news.
“He is,” she answered. “He was not happy with our findings regarding the children as well as Dumbledore’s actions thus far. He supports the feud and will support us as best as he can with his position.”
“That’s good to know,” Remus murmured. “I may have ideas as to where to begin with working on his popularity.”
“How so,” Narcissa asked.
“We investigate his history,” he answered. “Digging as far back as we possibly can.”
“Which means Moony gets to do what he does best,” Sirius interjected with a wry grin.
“And that is,” Walburga asked her son curiously.
“Research!”
Author’s End Note – It’s been a while since I updated; this chapter just didn’t want to cooperate with me at all. I’m hopeful this will help get things going again. Happy New Year to everyone! Please let me know what you thought of the story. See you next chapter! ~ Laran
