Hermione awoke two days later and spent a long time answering questions asked by Andromeda and watching Lucius watch her closely. By the fourth day since the attack Hermione was up and walking again, she only had a few headaches to put up with but she had a lot of school work that needed to be sent in. Lucius walked in to the bedroom after a few knocks to find her bedroom empty, he walked through and found her sitting in her office working on an essay. He frowned but knew that he couldn’t keep her locked up in her bed all day so he merely frowned and walked in, knocking slightly to let her know that he was there.
“You are working hard” He pointed out and she smiled at him “How’s it going?”
“Good” She answered looking at him and noting his tired face “But you look tired, have you slept at all?”
“Not in a few days” He admitted “While you were sleeping I kept watch over you and after you woke up I’ve been trying to sleep only to worry about what’s happening with you”
“You don’t need to watch over me” She told him.
“I know” He said absently “But I want to”
“How about this” She said “I am going to be in here for…well, probably all day actually. Why don’t you go take a nap in my bed, that way if something happens you’ll be right there”
“Okay” He sighed and walked back in to her bedroom and a minute or so later she heard his deep, even breathing.
“Granger” Draco appeared across from her with his hands up in surrender “I didn’t know…”
“Leave me alone” Hermione said “You almost killed me”
“I didn’t know that would happen” He promised “Please, I just wanted to say I was sorry”
“Fine” She said “Forgiven. Now leave me alone”
Draco faded away and just as she assumed the others left her alone. They knew that she needed time away from them, time to do normal things and not be bothered by them. She heard the baby start crying somewhere in the house but thanks to Lucius she knew that their new house-elf, Naida was taking care of him. She frowned and stood up, sneaking out of the bedroom she made her way to the library and then back. Lucius was still fast asleep and looking at peace. An hour later Hermione had read all about raising a magical baby. She had to have a general idea of what she was doing, because she didn’t want Scorpius to be raised by house-elves. She yawned and rubbed her head, it was hurting a little and she wanted to lay down. Lucius was still sleeping but she didn’t care, she climbed in next to him and closed her eyes, becoming aware as she dozed off that Lucius had moved closer and pulled her against him.

“Well” Draco said as he watched his father cuddle Granger “Isn’t this disgusting?”
“I think it’s sweet” Narcissa said with a smile “It’s nice that he has someone”
“Mum!” He exclaimed “It’s Granger!”
“She has helped you too, young man!” Narcissa snapped “And what did you do?” She stepped closer “You nearly kill her”
“But I wanted…” He started.
“Wanted” Narcissa gave a hollow laugh “Want, want, want. Draco wants something and because he wants it then everyone has to do it just to appease him” He looked confused “If it is one thing I regret, Draco. It is that I allowed you and even helped you become a spoiled, pampered little prince. If I hadn’t then maybe you would have found a young bride like Miss Granger here” She pointed at the young woman who moaned and cuddled closer to Lucius “Instead of having an illegitimate son with a little bitch such as Astoria Greengrass”
“Yeah?” Draco asked “That’s what you wanted?”
“Yes” She answered honestly.
“Well, I wish that I had a mother that knew how to keep her legs closed” Draco shot back “Not one that fucked one death eater, promised to marry him and then laugh at him when he comes to sweep you off your feet” He glared at her “I wish I had stayed at that bar with Nott and Zabini. Are you aware that I would still be alive if I had but no, I came home and because you were such a whore I am dead…you killed me!”
“Stop it, both of you!” Snape appeared next to them and looked over at Lucius who had been thrashing around “He can hear you in his dreams and he does not need you picking at each other out of boredom!”
“Don’t tell me what to do, Snape!” Draco hissed.
“Have any of you ever heard of a muggle thing called an Exorcism?!” Hermione snapped as she sat up and looked around the room and then straight at the three ghosts that had been standing at the end of the bed.
“No” Draco and Narcissa said at the same time.
“Yes” Severus answered with a grin.
“Well” Hermione said crisply “It is when a man of god comes in to the house and sends whatever spirits happen to be in the house to whatever await them on the other side and I’ve seen it happen on TV…it looks painful!” She grabbed the blankets and brought them back up to her shoulders “If you three don’t shut up I will have it done here!”

Remus and Tonks were surprised when they received a letter from Lucius Malfoy telling them that he would like to have them come over with Teddy so he could formally meet Scorpius. The first time the two had met was the first time Teddy had been near another child near his age so this was big. Tonks dressed very carefully not wanting to make him think she tried too hard while not wanting to be rude. It was cold outside as they were now moving in to November so she finally settled on pair of jeans and a brown sweater. Remus merely wore jeans and a long-sleeved black t-shirt and Teddy was dressed to play. They were asked to show up for ten in the morning so they were ready to go by nine fifty and just waiting until it was reasonable to go out and apperate away.
Finally, the time came and they were apparating to the town they were told to go to and the address that had been given. They landed in front of the huge manor home, Remus tried to keep the shock off his face as he took in the grandeur. Tonks of course had been inside the manor when Narcissa and Draco had been killed and when they had done the raids after the war. Remus, on the other hand, had only heard about the wonder this place held but had never seen it before. He was impressed and even a little jealous as they walked past the front gates and towards the front door. They knocked and waited, Tonks nervously smoothed down Teddy’s pale green hair with her hand. The door was opened by a male house-elf and they were showed in to the sitting room where Lucius was sitting and reading a book.
“Welcome” He said standing up and holding his hand out to Remus “Naida will be in with Scorpius in a moment”
Remus smiled tightly at the man and moved aside to let Malfoy shake his wife’s hand and smile at Teddy who laughed gleefully. Remus looked around the room and was surprised to see that Hermione was sitting in the room as well. She was pale and completely wrapped up in a blanket, but she was there sitting on the couch with a book in her lap. He smiled and walked over hugging her, concerned however, when he smelled frost on her hair. He pulled back quickly and narrowed his eyes at her in question. She smiled and looked over his shoulder when the house-elf brought the giggling nearly two year old child in to the room and put him on the floor with Teddy.
“What happened?” Remus asked almost immediately once the children were on the other side of the room playing with the elf and with each other.
“What do you mean?” Lucius asked, looking around the room for something that was out of place.
“Hermione” Remus said “Your hair or maybe your head smells like frost, what happened?”
“You can smell that?” Hermione asked with a grin as he blushed.
“What happened?” He repeated.
“It was nothing” Hermione said but when he wouldn’t give up she told him an edited version of what happened.
“That’s horrible” Tonks said “That it happened and that they are stuck here”
“It is sad” Hermione said and squeezed Lucius’s hand, which didn’t go unnoticed by their guests.
“So” Tonks said after a moment “Why invite us, of all people, here today?”
“Scorpius needs friends” Lucius said “And Teddy is his cousin. Family is important…believe me” His eyes became misty and he looked away from them to get his emotions in check.
“I was deeply sorry when I heard about my aunts passing” Tonks said and he looked at her sharply “I didn’t get to know here very well, but my mother told me all sorts of stories from when they were just girls” She looked down for a moment “I know how hard it was for me when my father was killed in the war and how hard it was for my mother…I wouldn’t wish that on my worse enemy”
“Nar…Narcissa and I tried to get a warning to your mother and father” Lucius said gruffly “Telling them that he was on the list of muggleborns to be killed but we were too late”
“Thank you” Tonks whispered lowering her tear filled eyes to keep from being seen being weak, it was not in her nature. Her and Remus’s eyes were drawn to the fact that Lucius and Hermione hadn’t stopped holding hands since she had taken his to comfort him.
It was a few hours later while Tonks and Lucius were having a rather heated discussion about the wrongs and rights in the ministry when Remus decided to talk to Hermione. He had been watching her closely and was more and more disturbed by the relationship between her and the older man. Remus was quite a bit older than Tonks but he knew how hard that could be on a relationship. After the war and the baby had been born Tonks was always trying to convince him to go out and do certain things that, at his age, he just didn’t want to do. Lucius Malfoy was older than even he is and Hermione is considerably younger than Tonks is and was when she showed interest in Remus. He walked closer to where Hermione was sitting in the window seat with her book opened on her lap.
“Hermione” He greeted as he sat down with her.
“Hi” She smiled “How are you liking Malfoy manor, would you like a tour?” She smiled “I have a beautiful potions lab downstairs”
“I’m sure it is beautiful” He agreed “But I was curious about your relationship with Lucius”
“What relationship?” She asked with a confused laugh.
“You really don’t even notice, do you?” He asked with a strange smile on his face.
“Come on” Hermione shook her head “Lucius and I are just friends, which is a lot to say considering he can be a real prick”
“Friendship is not what I see when I look at him” Remus assured her, he felt something brush against his back and looked off in to the dark room that was just beyond where they were standing.
“Remus” Hermione said soothingly putting her hand on his arm “He is lonely. When I came here it was just him and the ghosts of his past that made him remember over and over again what had happened. My being here is helping him become a human again and I am happy to do it and taking care of Scorpius is just the icing on the cake”
“But…” He started his eyes moving again to the dark room where he thought he saw movement in the darkness.
“Okay” She said “Am I getting closer to him than I thought possible?” She smiled “Yes. But is it a bad thing?”
“I guess not” He sighed and shook his head “I have a favor to ask”
“Yes?” She asked leaning against the wall and turning her head towards Snape, who was lurking in the dark sunroom, when he moved slightly.
“Teddy’s getting older and he’s been waking up recently in the middle of the night” He told her “He moves around the house and sometimes we don’t always wake up in time to get him back to bed”
“Okay” She said slowly.
“Last month” He continued and she nodded realizing that when he says ‘last month’ he usually means ‘last full moon’ “He made it as far as the basement door before Tonks caught him and brought him upstairs…I think we both know what lay on the other side of that door”
“A werewolf” She whispered.
“One that hasn’t had Wolfsbane potions since Snape died” He finished.
“I can buy you some…” Hermione started but he gave her a look that shut her up immediately.
“Hermione” He said “To buy that potion is extremely expensive and you can’t even afford to buy your own apartment”
“Then ask Harry…” She suggested.
“No” He snapped “It’s almost five hundred galleons for one phial of that potion. That is one dose…that’s not what I was asking though…I was curious if, until Teddy gets to know you guys better and could stay here with you during the full moon, if you could lock me in the cells we all know are under this house”
“Oh” Hermione said “Um, okay. I can’t really make that decision without Lucius’s input as it is his house. Let me talk to him tonight and I’ll let you know in a day or two, okay?”
“Thank you” He answered with a smile “Alright, it’s getting late and I need to get Teddy to bed…and maybe Tonks too” He gave her a rarely seen devilish grin.
“Have fun” Hermione smiled shaking her head “I’ll try to talk to Lucius tonight”
“And while you do that” Remus said “Try not to make a baby”
“Shut up” She laughed and pushed him away from her. While she stood there watching Scorpius and Teddy say goodbye in their little baby voices and watching Remus and Lucius shake hands and Tonks hug Lucius, she felt someone blow cold air over the back of her neck making her shiver.
“I can teach you” Snape said slowly “To make Wolfsbane”
“I would like that” She answered.
