Tony’s image stood before the two blonde wizards in their office. Both looked overly stressed out, he looked from the oldest wizard to the younger one and noted the lines on both their faces. He was curious what had happened to make them look such a way and briefly wondered if they’d been attacked which made him wonder if Hermione was okay and if she needed him in some way. Lucius had told him to hold on while they left the room momentarily, when they came back in there were forced smiles on their faces which he instantly disliked.
“Mr. Stark” Lucius Malfoy spoke “What an odd way to meet someone without having to actually show up in the office. I can’t wait to get to know these inventions of yours when you come to the office at a later time, can I ask you what it was that you wanted to know that has you coming, in one form or another, to our office today?”
“I was curious about Miss. Granger” Tony answered after a moment “We had an argument before she left and I was just wondering if she was okay and if I’ll be able to work with her once I sign on with you?”
“I am sorry to inform you, Mr. Stark” Lucius said coldly “But Miss Granger no longer works here”
“What?” He looked alarmed “Did you fire her?”
“On the contrary” Lucius said, obviously miffed by the assumption that he would get rid of someone as smart as Hermione “I offered her a position to be a…private correspondent about your business ventures as well as becoming my sons wife, a position, I may add, that is highly coveted by many a young woman in the wizarding world”
“Then why did she leave?” Tony wondered more to himself, the way she’d spoken about the younger blonde male led him to think that their relationship, while not being filled with love, would at least be filled with passion and well…forced equality.
“I know not” Lucius answered crisply, he opened his mouth to say more but Tony cut him off.
“Thank you” He said “I will be going now”
Tony canceled the connection he had with the wizards and turned his back to the computer system he had hooked up. He looked over to the Floo Network that was still hooked up to England, with a nervous sigh he threw some powder in to the fireplace and then called out ‘The Burrow’ and waited for someone to answer him. Just when Tony was getting ready to pull back in to his office a man with bright red hair answered him, he was pale with a long thin nose, his hair was a little too long but his smile was friendly enough even if his eyes were suspicious. Given what he’d been told about the war their world had gone through he was sure that being weary of any and everyone was now second nature.
“Can I help you?” The man asked “Are you looking for Bill, because he lives in Shell Cottage…”
“I was looking for Ginny Weasley, actually” Tony answered and the man’s eyes narrowed further, this was definitely one of her over protective brothers she’d told them all about, if the hair hadn’t been an indicator the glare would have been.
“Are you that Steve bloke she’s been writing to?” The man asked with a look of utmost dislike.
“No” He answered “My name’s Tony Stark…could I please speak with her?”
“Hold on” The man pulled back but now that he was out of the way Tony could see in to a shabby but warm looking living room, sitting in an armchair was a plump red-haired woman knitting. He was tempted to say hello because he felt awkward about just being a head in the fireplace but then the pale, heart-shaped and freckled face of Ginny Weasley filled the space in front of him.
“Tony” She greeted “Hi, this is unexpected. I hope Ron wasn’t a complete prick”
“That was your brother Ron?” Tony asked in surprise “Hermione’s ex?”
“Figured she’d have better taste in men, huh?” Ginny laughed and Tony heard the woman, her mother, snap at her about being nice when talking about her brothers.
“I was wondering if you knew what happened…” He started.
“What happened with her job?” Ginny guessed and laughed a little “Lucius laid out his plan plain and simple. She was to marry Draco, they would go on their honeymoon and then when they came home he would handle the business, including yours, and she would start popping out half-blooded, spoiled little brats and be expected to be happy with that…however, you know how Hermione is” He nodded but didn’t say anything “She quit when she realized that they were never going to let her advance”
“That’s my girl” Tony muttered.
“Yeah well ‘your girl’ is living in my bedroom with no money and no job will touch her…not even the Ministry” Ginny sighed, he looked confused and she smirked “You didn’t honestly think that Lucius would let her so publicly make him look like a fool and get off without some kind reprimand, did you?”
“What did he do to her?” Tony’s eye sparked with anger.
“He didn’t like beat her or anything” Ginny said quickly, trying to get some of that anger to simmer down “He merely told all the businesses in wizarding England that she was a bad worker, know-it-all, will challenge anything you say…so on and so forth, those who didn’t believe that she was a bad worker, well they are simply afraid that he’ll curse their families if they dared to hire her”
“That can’t be legal…” Tony started but Ginny gave a wry laugh.
“Most of what Lucius Malfoy does isn’t legal” She informed him “But he’s got money”
“Can I come visit?” He asked and after a moment she nodded.

Ginny waited at the muggle airport a couple of days later. She was dressed in a simple skirt and blouse, though her father tried to convince her that a poncho was more in muggle fashion now, thank goodness she had better fashion sense then him, she saw Tony walk out of the first class waiting area. He was dressed down, it was something she hadn’t seen in her short time in New York, he looked damn good in his pair of light blue jeans and black fitted t-shirt and simple black sneakers. Trailing behind him was his super expensive suitcases that likely held clothes that altogether cost more than the whole Burrow, land and house included. He looked around the faces all waiting for their loved ones before his eyes rested on the familiar red-headed young woman who was smiling at him.
“Ginny” He greeted “I actually missed you”
“I missed you too” She answered “How’s Steve?” She looked behind him again and frowned “I was hoping…never mind”
“He is busy helping a good friend of his who finds himself in a sticky situation” Tony answered consolingly “If it were not for that I know he would be here with us right now”
“I would hope so” Ginny answered, lowering her eyes to keep him from seeing the hurt that she was sure was still there “Come on, we’ve got to find a secluded area so I can apparate us back to my house”
“Does Hermione know that I’m here?” He asked, knowing how angry the young witch could get, he didn’t really want to end up on the receiving end of a curse from her. The itching powder she’d left sprinkled all over his underwear before she left New York had been enough to make him a little terrified of what else she may be able or willing to do if angered enough.
“No” Ginny answered as they made their way towards the front doors of the building “What happened between you two?” He shook his head as he followed her down an alleyway, she suddenly turned towards him, catching him off-guard by slamming her hands in to his chest so that his back was smacked against the brick wall hard “Look, I am not bringing you in to my world and my home without knowing why Hermione put itching powder in your underwear drawer and left the apartment halfway through Christmas when you left to do something” She moved closer to him “What happened?”
“It was…” He took a deep breath “She whispered to me that night because of the game…” She nodded “She told me that she was afraid of love, that every relationship she’d ever been in had fallen through because of how cold she was. She told me that her greatest fear was also her greatest wish…to find someone that loved her for her and not for whatever she had to offer them” He sighed “Then she told me that she felt if she stayed around me too long she would have to live through her fear and wish”
“That’s not bad” Ginny said “Why the powder?”
“Around…” He thought for a moment “Seven in the morning I woke her up, had her come out to the living room and I told her…I told her that she was right. That love was something to fear and wish for and that I too worried that I would feel those things for her if given the chance. I told her that because of those feelings I didn’t want her to stay in New York any longer and she got upset and asked if it was because of my own problems and I told her that I didn’t want her…at all” Ginny drew her hand back and even though Tony knew she was going to slap him he didn’t even try to stop her. The sound of her skin coming in to contact with his made an echoing sound that rang almost too loudly in the small alleyway. He kept his face turned to the side her hand had forced it to and he stared at the blank wall that he was facing and just wished he could take the story back.
“You were cruel to her” Ginny accused “She’s going to hate me for bringing you here!”
“She was just looking for a reason to leave” He snapped at Ginny “Hermione wanted to be able to leave and return to her life here and not feel like she was leaving something behind…I gave that to her” Ginny’s light green eyes locked on to his rich brown eyes and stared at him for several seconds before she relaxed a little bit and then raised her chin.
Without warning Ginny apparated them both to the outskirts of the Burrow. This was the first time Tony had apparated and when they landed Ginny watched him puked on to the dark green grass with a small smirk and a little thought to Hermione that she’d gotten him back a little for what he said to her. When he’d finally stopped heaving and straightened up they continued on to the house, she wearily looked over at him gently biting her lip as he finally got to take in her childhood home for the first time. She worried that he would scoff at it or put her down for living in such a shabby house but she saw a look of wonder and happiness on his face. Ginny opened the door that led in to the kitchen and they were greeted by the wonderful smell of lunch which made Ginny’s mouth water and Tony’s stomach growl. The short, plump red-haired woman that Tony had seen a couple days before through the Floo was puttering around the kitchen making roast chicken from the smell of it amongst other vegetables. She looked up and smiled at him, looked at her daughter raised her brows and then turned her back to them.
“Who is that, Ginny?” The woman called over her shoulder.
“His name is Tony Stark, mum” Ginny answered, her mother whipped around with wide eyes.
“Hermione’s Tony?” Molly asked, her eyes slid back to him with renewed interest “How nice to meet you, Mr. Stark”
“Nice to meet you, Mrs. Weasley” He greeted and she smiled.
“Call me Molly please, are you hungry?” She was already filling plates for many people “You can just stay right here, I’ve already called Harry, Hermione and the rest down”
Tony sat down next to Ginny and watched as slowly the room filled up. He was introduced to Arthur, Ginny’s father, Ronald, Harry, George and finally, Hermione came in to the room. She stopped walking and just looked at him, he offered a small, nervous smile to her that faltered when she glared at him then he looked at his plate sadly, this wasn’t fair of him. He had said the horrible things to her in New York in hopes that they would be able to figure out their lives separately because they were exactly the same, they had dreams, aspirations and were driven to do whatever was needed in order to get what they wanted. Marriage, children, the two story house with the white picket fence just didn’t fit in to the lives they were meant to live, what he had done, what he had said had been out of kindness not cruelty. Having him show up like he was, in her kitchen, was unfair and it should never have happened but it was and he wanted to make sure that she knew he wasn’t trying to be a jerk.
“I think I’ll go back upstairs” Hermione turned back to the door but it wouldn’t open.
“I don’t think so” Molly said “Doors charmed shut. You’ll have to sit down right there across from Mr. Stark and have your lunch…you’re entirely too skinny anyway” Hermione glared at her for a moment but sat down across from the man.
“Hello Hermione” He whispered.
