Harry closed his journal and grabbed his things for the day, almost running down the stairs. He reached Severus's door in record time and knocked loudly. The door opened and he went inside and sat his things down. "What will he do when you're found out?" Harry asked with fear shaking through him
Severus shrugs " Probably put a price on my head is the most likely scenario. " He says.
Harry let his head fall back. "What are we going to do?" Harry let out a sigh. He never was able to just open up about the war. "They expect that you and I will win this war on our own Sev" he shook his head "I don't want to see you in danger, any more than you want to see me. It's so frustrating, all of it" He said as tears rolled down his cheeks
Severus nods "Trust me I know, but all we can do is try our best to keep ourselves and each other safe." He says cupping Harry's face and wiping his tears away " hey it'll be okay, we can win this war, but it won't be just us, though I expect we will be main players. "
Harry blinked to stop his tears, "I know. I just don't want to lose you is all" he said leaning forward to place his forehead on Severus's.
Severus sighs and leans his head against Harry's. " You won't. Not if I have anything to say about it. "
Harry swallowed and kissed Severus's cheek. "Today is supposed to be a good day. We can talk about the war another day" he said
Severus nods." Yes, for today let's put it from our minds, there's nothing we can do about it today anyway. " He says
They decided to have lunch in Severus's rooms and talk, moving the day toward the evening. Around 3:30 Harry got up and went to his things, "Mind if I use the loo to change?" He asked
Severus nods," Sure I'll change after you do. It's though the bedroom. " He says pointing.
Harry walked through feeling like he was invading Sevs space walking through his bedroom, but it was gorgeous. He changed quickly and walked back out. "I won't add the small changes until we leave. If you prefer, I can just change the shape of my glasses" Harry asked
Severus nods" that's fine, I'd prefer you being able to see properly than not " he says moving to take his turn to change it the muggle clothes he had set aside.
When Severus came back out Harry gasped. "Merlin you look amazing" He said trying to shut his mouth that had fallen open.
Severus flushes and nods " Thank you, you look quite nice as well, well are you ready then?" He asks
Harry steps in front of the fire. "We are going to floo and then walk the rest of the way" he said pulling Severus in the fire with him. They came out in a small bookshop just down the street from their restaurant. "This is where I wanted to bring you, wait here" Harry went behind a curtain and spoke with a man and they both came out. "Severus, this is Hans" Harry said and the man reached out to shake his hand. "He is the man who found the journals for me and he offered to let you look at his private collection and possible he may be open to selling some" Harry smiled at Severus as they were led to a basement under the shop. With a wave of the man's wand, the entire room expanded, and bookshelves lined it. "Well go ahead, look" Harry said to Severus and began talking to Hans.
Severus looks at Harry and the man and as they are talking, he peruses the shelves. "well you have quite the collection. " He says after a few minutes. Finding a few that he would be willing to try to buy off the man.
"What do you say Hans? Willing to part?" He asked and the man smiled. "Only for you " he said and smiled. "Just add them to my account, yes?" he said, and he smiled. They exited the shop and harry was smiling, very proud of himself.
Severus shrinks the stack Harry had bought for him. " Thank you, he had first editions." He says pocketing them. " You're amazing, do you know that?"
"I try" He said. "Our restaurant is just down the street; I've made us a reservation" He said starting to walk.
Severus follows and taking the initiative takes Harry's hand when he comes up beside hymn
Harry smiled and hand back and they walked peacefully to the restaurant and Harry opened the door, "Reservations for two, Under the name Landon." He quietly whispered "Sorry" Harry said giving a sad look. They were escorted to their tables and harry pulled out Severus's chair as well. Again, he silently thanked Hermione and books. Harry sat himself and smiled
Severus shakes his head," I really could care less what name you use. " He says. After they are seated.
The waiter approached giving them menus and taking drink orders before harrying reached across the table reaching for Severus's hand.
Severus takes the hand and gives it a squeeze, " Thank you for inviting me out." He says
Harry couldn't help but grin. Soon their orders were taken, and food delivered. "This is nice, a real date" he said taking a sip of his wine.
Severus nods, "Yes, I don't think I've ever been on what you'd call a real date. " He says and blushes
"Never?" Harry asked with pain in his heart.
Severus shakes his head, "Not like this, that's for sure." He says.
Harry blushes a bit. "I'm glad I can give this to you" He says finishing his meal and his wine. The waiter takes the plates and refills their glasses as they have time before dessert is delivered. "Severus, we need to talk" Harry said taking a bigger swig of the wine than normal and looking nervous
Severus freezes, he has never heard a conversation that starts like that that ends well. He takes a sip of his wine to wet his suddenly very dry throat and then asks, " About what?"
"Our courtship" Harry said shaking a bit
Severus swallows hard, was this dinner just Harry's way of making the letdown easy, had he changed his mind? " Alright, what about it?" He asks, trying to hide how nervous he is.
"So, you know that courtship is to find out if you're suitable for marriage. Well, I think I would like to break our courtship" He said watching Severus's moves
Severus lets out a breath and feels his heart break but he just nods," if that is your wish. " He says softly, he should have seen this coming, no one would ever want to marry him
Harry began to get up and sighed holding a ring in his hand tightly. "Instead..." He faced Severus and lowered himself to his knee. "Instead, I would be honored if you would marry me?" Harrys whole face was red, the restaurant had gone deadly silent.
Severus gasps and his eyes widen, he gulps " You, you want to marry me?" He asks looking from the ring to Harry when Harry nods Severus has tears gather in his eyes and he nods " Yes, yes absolutely yes. " He says and leans down to capture Harry's lips.
Yes, was all Harry needed to hear before tears rolled down his face as well. He pulled back and took Severus's hand, sliding the ring on it. Only then did he realize the whole restaurant had erupted with clapping.
Severus looks around blushing bright red, but smiles at Harry, " Thank you Harry, I love you. But you scared the hell out of me you brat. " He says.
I love you too, forever, and yes that was my intention. I needed you to really believe me and you wouldn't have if your emotions weren't playing you." He said
Severus snorts " Very Slytherin of you my love. " He says.
"I love you so much Severus Snape, don't ever forget it" he said kissing the man with every emotion he possessed in his heart. "You have me forever" he whispered in his ear.
Severus smiles and says and looks at the ring on his finger, " Another first." He says " I love you Harry, and I'll keep you forever. "
Harry smiles and gets up off his knee and sets down in his seat that's close enough he never lets his hand go. "I didn't intend on courting you forever love" he said
Severus nods, " I know, but I didn't expect this to happen yet, so when you said you wanted to end the courtship, I thought you had decided you found me unsuitable." He says blushing again.
"You are the only one for me and you know it" Harry squeezed his hand. "Let's skip dessert and go for a walk, what do you say?" Harry asked
Severus nods," Yes, what I have right here is sweet enough" he says kissing Harry's knuckles
Harry smirked, "If you say so" he said waving the waiter over. He was informed that their meal was on the house and he tried to argue but ended up just leaving a $200 tip instead. Harry was holding a hand that meant so much more now that its adorned Harrys ring, the chilly air was refreshing, and Harry led them to the park across the street.
Severus follows lead in the chill air as the walk on a path through the park. " This has been the most amazing night, thank you Harry."
"No, thank you for accepting me" he said. " I knew we had something, and I know how much I love you, but man that was nerve-racking to do" He said. "There was a little voice in my head telling me you would say no" He said
Severus chuckles," Well I suppose we were both nervous, but as odd as I'm sure this might have sounded even a year ago, I love you Harry Potter, and would be honored to be your husband."
"Yea its odd to think about isn't it?" Harry smiled as they strolled. "There's another thing" Harry said nervous again.
Severus frowns looking at him, "Oh? What?" He asks
Harry stopped walking and turned to face Severus, taking his other hand. "When you are ready. and only then, I want you to be my first, and my last" Harry said face bright red
Severus nods, "I'd be honored, and it's more when you are ready. You should be aware that I don't truly have much more experience in that area than you do. " He says blushing.
Harry cocked his head a bit, "What does not much mean? You aren't a virgin, too are you?" Harry said not knowing what to think, but he had been ready for quite some time now
Severus blushes "No, but my virginity was taken in... less than favorable ways." He says not able to look at Harry
Harry closed the distance between them and rested his head on Severus's shoulder. "It's ok, we will figure it out together ok" Harry said as he wrapped his arms around Severus. "I'm ready to try when you're comfortable" he said kissing Severus's jaw and sighing,
Severus wraps his arms and the takes a deep breath before asking, "would you like to spend the Christmas holidays with me?"
"As long as we have a proper Christmas morning, just us" he said
Severus smirks, " In that case I suppose you'll have to help me pick out and decorate a tree." He says
"Really?" Harry jumped back in excitement. "I've never had a proper Christmas, not really. The Weasleys tried and of course Hogwarts but it never really felt special" he said taking Severus's hand again and starting to walk. "So, like stay with you instead of my dorms?" He said
Severus nods, "Yes, we'll have to tell the Headmaster about our engagement but said engagement gives us the freedom to spend time with each other. " He says.
There was silence for a moment while they walked. "I'd love to, more than you know" he said finally as they reached an apparition point. "Ready?" Harry asked
Severus nods " Yes, let's go home. " He says and they apparate away
