Thank you all for your patience and understanding. I still have until the end of this month to finish with all my exams, so this is probably the only chapter for this month. I promise to return to my old posting schedule in July.
Still not beta edited and running only on Grammarly so...
Draco entered the room and raised his eyebrows in confusion.
Something changed but for the life of him he couldn’t tell what. Nothing that he could see at the first glance, but there was something in the air.
Severus was sitting by the window and reading. Granger was curled up on the sofa, also reading. Nothing was out of the ordinary, and yet something was different.
“Granger. Severus you left me a note to come here straight after breakfast,” he greeted them.
Granger looked at him, frowned, blushed and continued to read. That’s odd. Severus marked the place in the book and closed it.
“Yes. Narcissa was kind enough to offer you to replace her. You and your father will take us to the Rosebush Manor today.” Severus said calmly.
Draco’s eyebrows started doing unnecessary exercises. Severus and his father didn’t spoke a word to each other since that argument.
Maybe that’s what’s off.
“Close your mouth Draco, unless you catch flies.” Severus drawled and Draco clinked his teeth hard.
“Are you and father on speaking terms again?” He finally managed to say the words.
“No. Nevertheless, you father is guardian of the wards and he has to come.” Severus replied with a sour look on his face.
Sharp motion of Hermione’s head drew his attention, with the corner of his eye Draco noticed that she gave one sharp glare to Severus. Before he could even process what he saw Severus growled.
“Not a word, Hermione, that topic is closed for discussion.”
Hermione harumped and lowered her head, but her attitude spoke volumes about her disagreement. Something is Severus’ words grated at Granger, but what was it? Did she disapproved or relished in the argument between Severus and Lucius?
Draco cleared his throat, the least he needed was for two of them to start arguing again.
“So when do we go?” He asked, not that it mattered to him, but he wanted to misdirect that charge in the air.
“In half an hour or so.” Severus replied still glaring at Hermione who pointedly ignored them.
“Fine, let me make arrangements. Astoria was about to come and see me, I need to let her know.” Draco nodded.
Severus’s features softened a bit, his shoulders fell just a fraction. Severus sharply nodded.
“See that you are ready on time.”
Once out of the room Draco leaned on the wall.
What is going on? Was Severus angry at me for some reason?
Pushing himself off the wall Draco headed to his room. Walking down the corridor Draco shuffled through his head events from previous days. He was sure that he did nothing to aggravate Severus. Not that is was a difficult thing to do, especially lately.
I even went to that stupid dance with Bucktooth… Bloody hell! Tentative grin spilled over his face. Can it be? I’ll have to observe him carefully.
One hour later.
One Granger’s refusal to sit on a broom or on a Aethonan, which enraged his father.
And one unexpected carriage ride, on the ground later they finally reached the Rosebush Manor.
Lucius was taking them to the Manor down the cobbled pat from the stables where they left the horses in the care of a House Elf. Severus followed him, quiet and with a frown. Draco pulled Hermione to walk behind with him.
He mulled over their trip to Rosebush, convinced more and more that his idea wasn’t so insane after all. Severus help Hermione to enter and exit the carriage, he took care that she was comfortably set. Those were things his mother drilled in his own behaviour, but Severus wasn’t know to extend such courtesy to opposite sex.
At least not as Draco knew.
“Do you think there is a chance for reconciliation?” Hermione asked quietly.
“Huh?” He blinked at her.
“Your father and Severus.” Hermione rolled her eyes.
“I don’t know” Draco sighed, Severus seemed truly hurt by his father’s behaviour. “What is it to you?”
“Nothing, but your father is the only true friend Severus has left. I can’t say much good for your father, but I think he cares about Severus deeply.” Hermione tilted her head, looking at two men in front of them.
Draco nodded, he glanced and her and his eyes caught something. I must be seeing things. Narrowing his eyes he grabbed the material of her robes at the shoulder under the pretense.
“Slow down, I want to keep my head on the shoulders. It won’t happen if they overhear us.” Draco hissed leaning to her, his eyes trained on the reddish mark. “What is this?” he asked in half-whisper.
“What?” Hermione janked her robes free, fixing them.
“This,” Draco pulled at her robe again, poking at the reddened spot on her trapezius near the neck.
“My skin and muscles. Will you stop that?” Hermione growled, swatting his hand.
“It’s a love bite…” Draco grinned at her.
“Not possible.” Granger rushed.
“It is a red spot on your skin…” Draco grinned. How naive… When did that happen? “It wasn’t there last night.”
“Then I must have had an itch and scratched myself.” Granger huffed, blushing in a shade of deep red. “And why are you checking me out? That is- disturbing.”
“Checking you out?!” Draco frowned backing off from her. “As if.” he snorted. “And that is a love bite, I know one when I see it.”
“Exactly how deeply insanity runs in your family?” Granger asked speeding up her pace.
“So is he any good?” He wiggled his eyebrows at her. “There were tales about his skill around Slytherin dorms. He is a sort of a legend in that regard to us.”
“I am to be his student once more, it is not like I can think of him like that. That’s just disturbing.” Granger raised her chin.
“Yes, because you didn’t before. As I remember correctly… Did you tell him how you washed him by hand while he was closed to this world? I bet he liked that tale.” Draco kept on teasing, enjoying her nervous twitch.
“If there really is a red spot it is either because I scratched myself or from an insect bite. If it wasn’t there before- I’d ask questions about the cleanliness of your home before making up stories.” Granger hissed, her blush deepening.
Draco stopped, it felt like she punched him in the stomach. She used his confusion to hurry up the path and reach his father and Severus. Draco watched as Severus fell behind a few steps, nudging her to walk with him by a brief touch on the small of her back.
It wasn’t right.
It didn’t fit.
Severus never prefered touching others or being touched. This was the third time today that he initiated the touch. No matter how minute or insignificant those contacts were. Severus disliked even a handshakes. Unless…
Unless I was right and they… Oh, she’s good.
Draco started to peace together all the small details. Severus’s coldness towards him, his moodiness, and finally- Granger’s blush.
And that red mark.
Draco grinned widely.

Hermione rushed to catch up with Severus. Her throat tight.
Do I really have a hickey?
She forced herself not to touch the spot that Draco poked on her neck, spot that now itched to be touched. Hermione forced herself not to frown or grin either. It felt like butterflies in her stomach had battle with swarm of angry hornets.
She was still trying to gauge was she really that lucky or not, while Severus’ words echoed in her head: We keep this quiet, not telling a soul living or dead… And now Draco managed to figure things out.
It wasn’t a hickey, not really.
Early rays of morning woke her up. She was sleeping turned to Severus, one of his hands still holding her. Hermione reached, running one finger along the line of his cheekbones. She smiled- to him or herself, she wasn’t sure.
His eyes blinked open, sleepy, full of softness, deep.
She tugged her hand from his face and he sighed. The same refreshing spell washed over her. Severus pulled her for a kiss. This time she kept her eyes open, his face neared then blurred while his lips caressed hers.
It was unbelievable how that simple kiss could make her feel all fluttery, causing her hips to strain towards him on their own accord. They snogged until her brain was completely blank.
It seemed like they kissed forever.
Severus pulled her towards him, one hand gripping her shoulder, fingers digging in her neck. She managed to gather enough courage to touch him, running her hand down his torso and lower…
Once she reached his half hard cock and wrapped her fingers around it, Hermione half expected to be thrown out of the bed... To her surprise he just shuddered and his hand dug into her flesh…
Severus’ hand blocked her way and Hermione glanced at him.
“Stay here until I come for you.” Severus barked an order and she nodded.
Why do I need to stay?
“Too bad, I was half-hoping that Severus would let you in.” Draco snickered behind her back.
“And that would be worse than this- how?” She snapped at Draco.
They were standing in front of huge stone house in victorian style.
“Pureblood families had a habit of placing all sorts of anti-muggle protection. Some of them were quite deadly.” Draco grinned at her.
“Oh, well…” Hermione nodded, speechless, enraged but not surprised.
“So, Granger- will you tell me how you got that love bite?” Draco leaned on the short wall that lead to the stairs.
“It is not a hickey.” Hermione huffed annoyed.
“Fine, keep your secret, just know that I know.” Draco looked at her with smug expression.
Hermione narrowed her eyes. If she fails to gain control over the situation… I am such an idiot! With a pleasant smile she turned to Draco.

“You don’t trust me? Fine,” Granger said with voice that forced Draco to worry. “Shall we ask Severus to confirm my claim?”
She raised one eyebrow, reminding Draco very much at Severus. It was one thing to tease Granger, to openly talk to Severus about something like that would be a suicide.
And he didn’t mean to use his knowledge to gain favours or get the upper hand. He just wanted to have a bit of fun. Granger smirked at him, all too smug. Draco rolled his eyes, resisting the need to frown- he lost and she knew it.
“You are such an easy mark, Bucktooth.” He clucked his tongue.
“Am I now?” She was still smirking at him.
Voices came from the house. His father’s, sounding royal as always but Draco could recognize the note of sorrow in it. Severus’ voice, quiet and flat. He turned towards the house at the same time when both men appeared at the entrance.
Lucius nodded to Severus, continuing to walk with heavy leaning on his cane. Slow, careful steps, like each caused pain. Draco took a deep breath, he may be not seeing eye to eye with his father all the time but he still loved him.
“Hermione, come here.” Severus called and Granger rushed to climb up the stairs.
Lucius hobbled to the place where he was and stopped next to Draco, eyes set on a distance, gazing over the rich park in the direction of Malfoy Manor.
Draco frowned, this wasn’t a very large house, it held no more than eighteen to twenty rooms. It was, however, joined to a huge glasshouse. Draco burned to go inside and take a peak, he only heard of this place but never had a chance to go and see it for himself.
Severus was talking to Granger, their words concealed with magic.
“Are you in pain, Father? Should I ask Elves for a seat for you?” He finally asked.
“No need, sitting won’t change anything. I am eager to leave this place, to tell that blasted woman that our debt still stands. I never wished to leave that burden on your shoulders.” Lucius sighed, his pose straight, distinguished but the voice was subdued.
“I can handle that old witch. But I don’t think you should rush with your conclusions.” Draco smirked, his eyes still locked on Severus and Granger.
“Severus is a hard man to be manipulated, Draco. Even harder to influence. And I lost not only his friendship, but also his trust. I am afraid that the task falls on you now, Narcissa refuses to be involved.” There was a note of bitterness in Lucius’s voice.
“I think you force things too much. You want them to play out at your imagined scenario. Honestly father, you have no one to blame but yourself for Severus being angry at you. But I do not believe that you failed- or rather, I believe that things would have happen whether you influenced them or not.” Draco sighed, his father was still oblivious to what was going on around him.
Lucius turned his head to glare at Draco.
“Careful Draco, I can still change. My. Mind.” Lucius hissed.
“Yes, but can you afford it?” Draco glanced at his father, raising an eyebrow. “Stop being so self-absorbed and look around. If I were you, I’d watch this.” Draco motioned towards the entrance to the house.
Severus was talking and Hermione would nod occasionally with a short reply. Lucius shuffled next to Draco, to see what he was talking about, but Draco’s eyes stayed locked on the pair at the door. Disbelief growing with each passing moment.
Severus produced small silver knife taking one of Hermione's hands and making a small incision on her palm. Lucius sharply drew his breath. Severus placed Hermione's blooded palm on the door, his lips moving in the incantation Draco was more than familiar with.
He’s keying her into a blood wards.
“Did you read today’s Prophet, father?” Draco asked quietly.
“Not yet. Is there something worth reading?” Lucius sounded shaken.
“A very interesting article about last night’s Hogwarts ball. I’d remember this scene while reading it.” Draco smiled.

Estelle rubbed her temples. For one dead and painted, headache shouldn’t be a problem.
The dark portrait room was buzzing with noise and chatter, it was the liveliest that it was for decades. Ripples of magic coursed through the stone walls.
Small, plump witch tottered in her portrait and squeeaked.
“A new blood! Do you feel it?”
“I wouldn’t count the chickens yet, Estrid.” Estelle replied calmly.
“But…” the witch blinked.
“You do not know my grandson.” Estell shook her head. Smart girl, it’s all on her now.
“A Mudblood!” came an outraged roar from one male voice and the rest of the portraits raised their voices, hissing and threatening to the man who rebelled.
Yes, they are desperate. Now, they do not care for the blood status. We wouldn’t be in this situation if they thought like that when the boy was born.
“You know the girl, you talked to her,” Estrid turned to her. “Maybe you can persuade him…”
“The fool stays a fool, no one can prevent it.” Estelle sighed.
She stood up and walked out of the frame, seeking refuge in the quiet of Malfoy library.
