Last Chapter:
Draco moved away from the door until he was standing at the foot of the bed.
“You’re right,” he began as he absentmindedly brushed at the bed hangings with his hands, picking off invisible bits of dirt. “I don’t want to be friends any more.”
Harry softly nodded his head as he turned away from Draco, trying to ignore the wetness forming in his eyes. He had been right, how could he ever have even dreamed that Draco Malfoy of all people could like him. Harry didn’t deserve Draco; he didn’t. Draco was too good for him.
“I understand,” he managed to croak out before the knot in his throat became a little too tight. He wasn’t good enough. That hurt.
Draco moved round the bed until he was standing in front of Harry.
“Not just friends, anyway.”
Chapter 12: Reconciliation
“Not just friends, anyway.”
Harry's head shot up. Out of all the things he had been expecting, this one had been at the very bottom of the list. In fact, he wasn't sure he was hearing Draco right. Did this mean what Harry thought and wanted it to mean?
“W-w-what?”
“You heard.”
Draco took a moment to watch Harry silently repeat the sentence in his head. He knew Harry was checking to make sure there were no hidden meanings, and that what Draco said was what he thought he meant. As Draco watched Harry, he began to take in the slight redness around his eyes as well as the rest of the younger boy's haggard appearance.
'Weasel wasn't lying about Harry crying then.'
“I don't understand,” Harry said almost in a whisper. Draco sighed. 'This is going to be harder than I thought it would be.' The bed dipped slightly as Draco sat on it just in front of Harry so they were sitting parallel to each other, ensuring everything that Draco said would be heard.
“Harry, I like you, and I do not care if I sound like a complete idiot, but I think you like me, too.”
Harry didn't say anything; instead he seemed to be doing everything to avoid Draco's gaze. He was now sitting cross-legged on the bed, playing with the sheets that still covered his lower half.
“Am I right? Do you like me?” Draco continued. It was apparent to Harry that Draco was not going to give up or at least change the subject until he got an answer from Harry, so Harry gave a small nod of the head.
“What was that?” Draco went on, as Harry's nod had been so small, Draco was not sure if it had been a nod at all.
“Yes, I do,” Harry finally muttered, a faint blush spreading across his cheeks, causing Draco to smile.
“So what is the problem then?”
“What?” Harry lifted his head, catching Draco's gaze for a split second before he looked away. Draco sighed at Harry's confused expression. He lay down on the bed in front of Harry, deciding that if this conversation was going to take a long time, he might as well get comfortable.
“Why did you run off after we kissed?”
Draco turned his head from the ceiling to watch Harry's reaction. The faint blush became slightly redder, and Harry ducked his head, turning away from Draco whilst muttering something incomprehensible.
“Do you think you could repeat that in English please?”
It was now Harry's turn to sigh. He slowly turned to face Draco, but didn't look at him; instead he stared at a crease in the sheets just to the left of Draco's head.
“I guess I was just scared,” Harry said clearly but to the bed sheets.
It sounded stupid now that he had said it out loud, but he had been scared. Scared of how Draco would react, scared of what he might say and who he might say it to. But Harry trusted Draco, which meant…
Harry reached up to push his glasses further up his nose, a small smile breaking out across his face. Draco looked at him, confused by the sudden change in emotion; upon seeing Draco's confused expression Harry let out a small chuckle.
“Sorry, it's just, I think I've been a bit of an idiot.” Harry smiled down at Draco who pushed himself onto his elbows while Harry continued. “It sounds stupid, but I guess I'm just worried about what will happen. I mean, it's not like we can just go out and announce it to everyone; there's Ron for one and Lucius for another.”
Draco froze upon hearing his father's name. He hadn't given him much thought recently. He had been too wrapped up in Harry and what he was doing, but now…all his housemates would have questions; many would hate him for refusing to become a Death Eater. In fact, he was in danger. What if one of them had been given orders to “get rid” of him; it wouldn't be that difficult. 'Oh great.'
“Sorry, I didn't mean…” Draco waved away Harry's apology. They still hadn't talked about Lucius, and Draco doubted they would anytime soon.
“You’re right; we can't just announce it to everyone because so far there isn't much to announce.”
“Well, yes, I mean, we…” Harry began to stutter, the blush reappearing on his cheeks. Draco smiled and raised himself off his elbows until he was sitting directly opposite Harry. Draco pressed his finger to Harry's mouth, silencing him.
“I think we should have something to announce,” Draco said softly, his finger trailing up Harry's jawbone. Harry swallowed as Draco leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. Harry's eyes fluttered shut. Finally Draco pulled back and maneuvered Harry so the Gryffindor was resting on his shoulder. Harry smiled and pressed his body closer to Draco’s, whose arms closed around him. 'Things can only get better.'
They stayed like that for a while, wrapped up in each other until Harry gave a small frown and pulled his head back to look up at Draco.
“How did you get here?”
Draco gave a small laugh and pulled Harry back down onto his shoulder.
“Well…”
Draco proceeded to tell Harry of his encounter with Ron after he left the dungeons, which he may have embellished slightly to turn Ron into the bad guy. He told Harry how he had gone up into his room and found out all of his clothes were gone and how Ron had told him he was at Hogwarts. He had then gone to see Severus and persuaded him to go back to Hogwarts a night early with the promise that he would help set up all his equipment if he did.
“So then when we arrived, I came straight here. It did take a bit of reasoning with Sirius, but they said you were in here so…” Draco smiled down at Harry who was fiddling with the buttons on his shirt.
“I can't believe Snape actually brought you down here. “
“I have many hidden talents.”
In fact, it had taken much more than a simple promise to set up all his equipment get Severus to come back to Hogwarts early and neither of them was now talking to the other.

'Hogwarts!' Draco ran the situation over in his head. How could things have gone so wrong? And now Harry was back at Hogwarts. Draco began to pace his room, an idea forming in his mind. Seconds later, he was marching to Severus's room there previous argument forgotten. He gave a sharp knock on the door and opened it without waiting for a reply.
Severus was sitting at his small desk in the corner of the room sifting through papers. The room was fairly small, about half the size of his bedchamber at Hogwarts. A single bed was pushed flush against the furthest wall; the desk sat on the opposite wall and a tattered rug lay on the floor.
“Draco, the purpose of knocking…”
“Severus, I need you to take me to Hogwarts.”
Severus placed down the stack of papers he was sorting through and leaned back in his chair; he placed his hands in his lap, and his eyebrows rose.
“Harry has gone back to Hogwarts.”
Severus merely nodded. He didn't understand Draco's sudden infatuation with the brat and wasn't about to endorse it.
“Come on then.”
“Draco, I am not going to take you to Hogwarts now, especially not so you can run after that impudent brat.”
Draco pulled his wand out from his sleeve, but Severus just sneered back at him.
“I'll go on my own then.”
“You won't get past the wards, and you know that.”
“Father would take me.”
Severus's eyes snapped up to meet Draco's narrowed gaze.
“I am not your father, Draco.”
Draco dropped his wand placing it back up his sleeve before crossing his arms smirking across the room at Severus.
“You wish.”
“What?” Severus watched as Draco strolled up to his desk, leaning on it with both hands as had done so many times in class. 'We spend too much time together.'
“You wish you were my father. You think you can save me, rescue me from everything; you think you can protect me, and you can't. I can look after myself. I chose not to join Voldemort, a decision you were too thick to make. I dealt with the consequences, not you. My father was doing what was right by him, and I don't blame him. He's a better father than you could ever be.”
Severus stood up so quickly the chair behind him clattered to the floor. He grasped Draco by the front of his robes and yanked him round the desk, pushing him up against the back wall of the room.
“I wouldn't have tried to kill you Draco!” Severus snarled down at Draco, whose face drained of all color. Severus looked at Draco, who had begun to shake, and pulled his hand off Draco's robes as if it had been burned. Draco stood staring at Severus, tears forming in his eyes.
“Draco…”
Severus reached out to try and comfort him, but Draco darted out of the way, nearly falling over the old rug in his haste.
“Get your belongings, I'll take you,” Severus said in defeat. 'Fuck, fuck, fuck.'
An hour later, they had wordlessly flooed to Hogwarts, separating the moment they entered the castle.

“You okay, Draco?”
Draco smiled down at Harry before removing his arms from around Harry.
“Why don't we go for a walk?”
Harry nodded and allowed Draco to pull him to his feet. He quickly slipped his shoes on and peeked out the bedroom door, hoping to miss any awkward conversation with Sirius and Remus.
“Hello, Harry,” Sirius’s voice called as soon as Harry stuck his head round the door. Harry sighed, pulled the door open fully, and stepped out of the bedroom, Draco close behind him.
“Everything alright?”
Sirius's gaze flicked from Harry to Draco, who was standing in the doorway to the bedroom.
“Yes, Sirius, everything's fine.”
“I would say more than fine actually,” Draco whispered in Harry's ear.
Sirius rolled his eyes but said nothing. He had a fairly good idea about why they both stood there with ridiculous expressions on their faces.
“Where you off to then?” Sirius smiled at Harry's look of relief as he changed the subject.
“Walk,” Harry said cheerfully.
“Why don't you go down to the Quidditch pitch?”
Harry turned his head around to look at Draco, who smiled.
“I'll get my broom; then I'll meet you in the Entrance Hall.”
Draco smiled once more at Harry before edging out from behind him and leaving out the portrait hole.
Harry blushed as Sirius immediately began wiggling his eyebrows at him.
“Well?”
“Where's my broom?” Sirius laughed as Harry ducked his head and went off in search of his broom.

Draco stood outside Severus's chambers. Severus had his trunk as he'd forgotten to take it with him after they flooed to Hogwarts. Draco was trying to reason with himself. Severus hadn't purposefully hurt him, and it was his fault for angering him in the first place, but that didn't make the knot of anxiety in his stomach disappear. Pulling himself together, Draco knocked loudly on the door in front of him. Silence greeted him. A few minutes passed, and the door did not open. Draco raised his hand to knock again when the door was thrown open in front of him. Draco jumped at the sudden noise and looked up to find Severus staring at him.
“Draco, come in.” Severus moved to the side, allowing Draco to pass through.
“I just need my trunk.”
Severus pointed to the desk where his trunk was still shrunken from the journey. Draco nodded and quickly crossed the room and pocketed his trunk before turning.
“Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you.” Draco nodded, but said nothing as he left the room.
Draco scowled as he made his way to the entrance hall. This was going to be the worst, yet best year of his school life. There was no doubt that the rest of his housemates were going to hate him. He had already managed to upset Severus and Harry, but at least he had Harry now.
'Harry.'
