Normally being the last one up in the morning, everyone was surprised to see Yuki up quite early. She sat at the table in the kitchen with
everyone else while Molly made breakfast; her usual toast, eggs and ham with coffee and juice. Ginny, most mornings, would be the one to wake
up Yuki, persistently knocking on the door till Yuki couldn't bare it any longer. But this morning she woke early, thinking of the day before,
wondering about the mark on her back. She couldn't understand why someone would brand another human, and really couldn't understand why it had
happened to her. She thought if only she knew more about it it might be easier to grasp, but as she knew nothing of the context of her mark,
she was left waiting in the dark till Severus came back and could shed some light.
So Yuki was up, waiting for Severus to arrive, hoping that he would heed her word and come to number twelve that day. But with Severus she
knew that there was a good chance he wouldn't be coming. He hadn't come for over a week before and there was no sign saying he would come back
this day. The only thing Yuki could do was wait and see, and hope he would come.
There was no one else to talk to about it, no one else would understand. Plus Yuki didn't want to know the reaction everyone would have when
she told them of what had happened to her, and then have to show them the mark when they would, of course, ask to see it. Luckily Severus was
not one to talk much so Yuki knew they wouldn't hear of it unless she told them, or unless Dumbledore spoke with them--because Severus would
have to tell him at some point of everything he was learning--and she sort of thought that Dumbledore did not seem the type to tell people more
then they needed to know. Yuki had no choice but to sit at the table with these people and carry on conversation as though there was nothing
else her thoughts were drifting too, when all she could think about, was the M and S that crossed her back.

Once again Severus sat in the chair he did most all his thinking in. The curtains in the room were open showing the light from the sun which
had come up not to long ago. He watched the light creep across the floor, slowly inching it way to him; across the floor and up his desk till
it dared to actually reach him. He thought of Yuki, her asking him, no telling, him that he should come by today. And he would of course, were he not
ashamed of himself for the out of hand actions he took towards her. How dare he of touched her when he was just there to try and help her, when
she was trusting him and letting him into her most private thoughts.
Severus closed his eyes and leaned back in the leather chair as the sunlight closely approached him. He wasn't sure if he should go back to
number twelve today. What would Yuki say to him? Had she told the others? He wasn't prepared for whatever it was that would happen when he
would show up but he knew putting off the inevitable of having to go back would not solve anything. Severus had learned to face things head on;
to go in and just get it over with as quickly as possible. He knew Yuki would have lots of questions, more questions then he would like. He
hated all her questions, he never liked having to answer people, especially when he didn't know the answer. And after what they had found out
last time Severus knew Yuki would have even more questions he couldn't answer; he hated not being able to answer her. But maybe just one more
time in her head might give them some very good answers to things. Severus knew he had to go, for whatever reasons; he had more reasons to go then to
not.

Having retired to the den, Yuki sat on the plush, black-velvet sofa and read another of the books Hermione had lent her. She was trying to
think of anything but the mark on her back, but she found herself failing that task when every once in a while when she would attempt to trace
the lines on her shoulder blade, but it was just out of reach. After being so absorbed in her book that Yuki skipped out on lunch, she was thrust out
of the world of words when a tall, shadowy figure stood just before her. Yuki looked up from her book, only to see Severus standing there, his
eyes meeting her for a moment before he looked away, and waited for her to speak.
"I wasn't sure if you'd come back today," Yuki said and closed her book.
"Well, I found sometime so..." Severus trailed.
"Ok...so...I guess we should go to my room," Yuki said and put the book in her lap down.
Severus turned and led the way for once. Yuki got up and quickly followed his fast pace. He stopped just outside her door and waited for her
to let him in. When they entered Severus got his chair and put it in the usual stop, waiting for Yuki to do the same.
"I was thinking about what we saw yesterday, and who would ever do something like that," Yuki said when she sat down in front of Severus.
Severus knew the kind of people who might do something that that, he just hoped that it wasn't so. "Well maybe today we can figure
somethings out," Severus told her.
Yuki nodded her head, feeling as though Severus was keeping something from her, and keeping his distance too. She looked into his now
familiar deep eyes, watching as the shades of brown, gray and black flood together and wash over her...
The midnight black began to part, only to display a large dark room. At the far end stood a high chair, seating on it a man in long black
robes, flowing gracefully down the steps to his seat. Across from the man, on the other side of the room, were many more people, all dressed in
the same black robes. All of their faces were hidden behind white masks, not even showing there eyes. The man in the chair was not wearing a
mask, but his face was hidden in the shadows. He raised his arm out and ushered someone forward while saying, "It's time to prove your worth
and allegiance, step forward."
The line of masked figures parted, allowing one who was in the back to step forward. He walked, slowly and carefully, to the center of the
room, stepping into the smallest bit of light there was. The figure, got down on one knee and bowed his head to the man in the chair and stood
after he had summoned him up.
"Bring her in," the proud man in the chair said. The doors behind the line of masked people opened and two more masked men walked in,
carrying with them a girl, limp in her walking. She was naked and bruised, with cuts along her body. She appeared weak as they drug her through
the room and threw her on the floor in between the man in the chair and the other in the center. Her head was down and she dared not move,
except for the trembling that racked her body. There was fear pouring from her, and also from the man in the center of the room. But he looked
up at the man in the chair, never once looking down at the women thrown at his feet. The room began to turn dark and it felt as though
everything was slipping away--quickly pushing from her mind---and all that was left was a deep black
Yuki shook the image from her head, lost in the dream or memory or whatever sort of scene it was. Her head was throbbing with pain from the
push she felt when the picture began to slip away. She looked up at Severus, looking for an answer.
Severus was looking down, mentally berating himself for letting Yuki see so much. Why couldn't he push her out of his head sooner? It was not
supposed to go like that, she was never meant to see any of that.
"Was that...that wasn't...me?" Yuki said. "That couldn't be...it didn't look like me." Yuki had a feeling it wasn't her, when she was
watching the scene it all felt very foreign, with all the other memories it had felt familiar.
"No," Severus plainly said.
"Then what was that? It didn't feel like it has anything to do with me," Yuki admitted.
"It was not one of your own memories," Severus told her. "It was mine."
Severus had tried to forget about that event, but found it was one of the hardest things to do. It often plagued his dreams at night and now
here it was haunting him in wake.
"What?" Yuki asked, still so confused. "What happened Severus?"
He didn't say anything, his eyes looking at the floor and suddenly finding the cracks in the floor quite interesting.
"Severus," Yuki said and scooted closer to him. "Who was the women Severus?"
Severus couldn't help the reel in his head, replaying that scene over and over again. He saw himself clearly, and he saw her even more
clearly...he could never forget her.
"She was..." Severus sighed, "the first person I ever killed."
Yuki internally gasped, but externally she sat frozen, her gaze transfixed on the man before her.
"What happened?" She couldn't help but ask.
"It was how you are initiate into the deatheaters," Severus explained. "They bring in some muggle or mudblood," Severus said painfully, "And
you have to use one of the unforgivable curses on them, and kill them. If you don't...they will kill you."
Yuki could tell it hurt Severus, she could even feel it when she was watching the scene, but hearing him tell it all, it was worse.
"Oh Severus," Yuki said and leaned in to hug him.
Severus was beyond surprise by her immediate actions. No one dared touch Severus, let alone hug him. He hadn't felt someone so close in so
long and felt as though he forgot what to do. Severus tensed up as Yuki's arms wrapped around him. He was sure when he told her she would hate
him, she would be disgusted just like everyone else, just like himself. Severus hated himself for everything he had done, why didn't Yuki?
Yuki couldn't help it; she just found herself holding onto Severus and she really didn't know why she felt so bad. Someone had burned her
skin, claiming her, and she was angry at them for that; Severus had killed someone, and she was sorry for him, for that. She knew there was
something else to him, something no one else knew about or saw, and Yuki didn't want him to be afraid of that part of himself anymore. Slowly
Yuki pulled away from Severus but she found herself still so close, looking into his deep and confused eyes.
As Yuki began moving away something in Severus wished she wouldn't, he liked that touch of her, something he hadn't felt in a long time woke
up at that moment. But he found that her hands were still holding his shoulders and she was looking back into his eyes. She was so close to him.
In only an instant Severus closed the small gap between Yuki and him, crushing her lips against his own. No thoughts ran through his head,
telling him this was wrong or right, the only thing that was going through him was a force drawing him to her, making him kiss her.
Yuki was surprised by Severus, she never thought he would kiss her, and she never thought she'd kiss him back. But she found that her hands
clenched to his shoulders as she pressed her own lips back into Severus'. Severus was tense but Yuki was relaxed. She liked the feeling of him
kissing her, she never knew she would. As she felt her lower lip slip in between his, Yuki let out a soft, almost inaudible moan.
When Severus heard Yuki moan against his lips he was brought back to reality: he was kissing his assignment, his work. Severus pulled away from Yuki
and felt her hands slip from him. He looked into her eyes, seeing the same confusion he was feeling.
"I'm...sor..sorry," Severus studdard and pushed his seat back. He stood up and quickly walked to the door.
"Severus, wait," Yuki called and followed him.
"I'm sorry Yuki, I shouldn't have done that." Severus opened the door and walked out into the hall, wanting to get away as quickly as he
could.
"Severus you don't have to be sorry," Yuki shouted as he stormed down the stairs. "Severus, please come back for a moment."
But Severus didn't. He rushed down the stairs and passed by all the heads that were now peaking out of the kitchen doorway. Without another word or even looking back Severus threw open the door to number twelve and disappeared behind it as it slammed shut. The painting of Mrs. Black in the hallway began shouting obscenities and Sirius ran over to try and quiet her down. Everyone else just stared up at Yuki who was watching the door Severus ran threw, not knowing what had happened but each coming up with their own theories.
"Everything all right dear?" Molly asked from below.
"Yeah," Yuki replied and turned away, going back into her room and closing the door. She flopped herself onto her bed and buried her head under her pillow, willing herself to make sense of the new mess she was in. Had Severus really meant to kiss her? She wasn't so sure as he pulled away and ran out saying sorry. Maybe he just got caught up in the moment. But even as Yuki was confused by Severus' feeling and actions, she was more confused by her own; she kissed him back, and had liked it.
