I own nothing but this sordid little tale. All characters belong to J.K. Rowling. I am not making any money by writing it. I must be insane.
LEECH
You know readers, I already have quite a few more chapters already written for this story, but I’m not gonna post an faster if you read and don’t bother to review. So come on peeps, a little bit of effort for a lot of work, it’s not much to ask.
Anyway, lighter note to this chapter.
Chapter 12
The low, dangerous voice startled her out of her musings and she threw the wand at him in fright. “Nothing, I was just looking. You were… asleep and you dropped it. Don’t worry; I didn’t do anything to your bit of wood.” She said sarcastically and folding her arms as he examined his wand.
“Why are you still here, I told you to leave?”
“I didn’t want to, that mirror might have spoken to me again and I don’t like it.”
He pushed up into a sitting position and sighed, running a hand through his already messy hair. “Be that as it may, it is not appropriate for you to stay in my rooms. If word got out, things could be misconstrued. Nor do I like being watched when I am asleep.”
“I’m sure they could, if anyone knew I even existed, but they don’t and I don’t want to be on my own. Anyway, who said I was watching you?”
“That’s too bad, because you cannot stay here and that’s final. And I could feel you watching me.”
“Why not? I’m not hurting anything. And you can‘t feel someone watching you.”
“Yes you are and yes I can”
Kathy stood and placed her hands on her hips, glowering down at him. “What? What am I hurting?” She demanded.
“My head for one thing.”
‘And my groin for another.’ He thought. Even in her dishevelled state when he first brought her here, the sight of her near naked body had stirred him, and now knowing what she looked like under those robes, his trousers were becoming increasingly uncomfortable.
She was no great beauty, only mildly attractive, mousy brown hair, dark brown eyes that seemed to hold a softness in which he could quite easily lose himself. Her figure was well rounded and shapely, but not podgy, except maybe a little on her stomach, but after baring two children that was understandable. Certainly a lot different to the little ragamuffin he’d met at the orphanage. ‘Damn! What the hell am I thinking?’ He got to his feet, keeping his back to her so she would not see the tent in his trousers, and headed for his bedroom and bathroom. “Do you mind.” He said indignantly when she attempted to follow him.
Kathy realised where he was headed and tuned back to the living room at high speed. ’Idiot.’ She admonished herself. She busied herself righting the sofa.
Severus closed the bedroom door and leant against it, his eyes closed as he tried to force his mind to think of anything other than the woman in his rooms. ‘This was all Albus’ fault. The old fool should have made sure the mirrors were silenced, he should have housed her in a different part of the castle. He should never have insisted that she be brought here. Damn you Albus Dumbledore.’
He looked down at his trousers, they were not even buttoned up all the way. “Oh Gods.” He groaned, peeling them off and stepping into the bathroom for a shower. It was obvious he was not going to be allowed to get any more sleep.
As he dressed he noticed the bed was made up and assumed the elves had been in, then saw the fire grate was still full of warm ashes. He shrugged and fastened the last few buttons on his frock coat and re-entered his living room.
At first he thought Kathy had left, and actually felt a small stab of disappointment, then he saw she was laid on his sofa fast asleep. “Typical.” He muttered quietly. “She wakes me from a much needed sleep, interrupting one of the few decent dreams I’ve had in ages, then falls asleep on MY sofa.”
An evil smirk spread across his face.
“Albus. Come down here, it’s urgent.” He bellowed into the flames through his office fireplace.
Albus Dumbledore stumbled through the floo in his dressing gown and slippers, glasses hanging crookedly off his nose.
“Severus, what on earth has happened? You do know it’s not quite five o’clock.”
“Considering I was awakened a little over an hour ago by a screaming woman, I think I am aware of that fact, yes.” He answered dryly, walking through the study into the living room.
“Screaming? Who, Kathy?”
“Yes Kathy. Some wise old wizard forgot, in his infinite wisdom, to silence the mirrors in her rooms, hence she believed she was about to be assaulted. As a result I have had next to no sleep, my eardrums are fit to burst, you should hear that woman scream, I have had the wind knocked out of me and now she refuses point blank to leave my rooms. She does not want to be left on her own.”
“Oh.” Albus gave a sheepish look, his fingers twiddling with his beard.
“Oh indeed. Now it is your turn to baby-sit, while I lock myself in my office. I might as well catch up on some school work since I am not going to be allowed to sleep.” With that he left the room, locking and warding the door behind him, just because he felt like it.
While Severus snuggled down on the sofa in his study, the office seemed a few steps too far, Albus looked at the sleeping Kathy and wondered what to do next.
He settled himself in an armchair and pondered on what the next step should be. First the woman was going to have to be desensitised to everything magical. It shouldn’t prove too difficult, she already knew of the existence of wizards, and plenty of muggleborns were just as green as her when they first arrived at Hogwarts. Then again, children adapted much easier than adults, who were more set in their ways. Another problem was the timeline. Kathy had grown up in the forties an fifties, it was now the nineties. Even the wizarding world had advanced in that time. He also needed to consider how to go about teaching her to control her Leeching, when he had no idea how to go about it himself. Not only that, but it needed to be done soon, before Tom Riddle became more powerful than he already was. There was also the minor detail that Kathy would have to meet him in his present form, hopefully he still held some feeling for her, and then she needed to drain her only childhood friend of his powers until he was completely harmless. Failing that, at least enough that Harry could cast the killing curse on him. In amongst all of that, it was necessary to keep her hidden from the rest of wizardom, because if the slightest hint got out that a Leecher was ensconced at Hogwarts, all hell would brake loose and Severus’ efforts to bring her here would be wasted. Not to mention the poor woman would most likely be locked up in Askaban to keep her away from any poor unsuspecting witch or wizard that might cross her path. For the first time in a long time, Albus wondered if he had done the right thing. ‘Too late old man, what’s done is done.’ He thought, settling back in the chair and closing his heavy lids.
When Kathy woke from her slumber and saw the white haired man sleeping in the chair by the fire, she couldn’t help but wonder where Stephen, no Severus, was. Getting up quietly, she tried the door to the study, only to find it locked. Disgruntled, she crossed the room and peeped in his bedroom door, but he was not in there either.
A gentle hand lightly shaking his shoulder woke the Headmaster. “Oh my, Mrs Ripley. Please forgive me, I must have nodded off. One of the failings of getting old I suppose.”
“It’s alright, do you know where Severus is? The door’s locked and he isn’t in the bedroom.”
“I believe he went to his office. Locked you say?” Albus aimed his wand at the door and frowned when it didn’t open with a simple ‘Allohamora‘. He knew Severus put those wards up just to get back at him and it took him almost ten minutes to take them down again.
When they found the Potions Master asleep on the study sofa, Albus sent an ‘Aguamenti’ charm his way before hurrying out the main door and into the corridor. He knew it was wrong to leave Kathy to deal with the certain aggravation that would come with Severus’ rude awakening, but he wanted a small bit of revenge for his own lack of sleep.
Kathy was shell shocked at first when the ice cold water hit the sleeping wizard. Then when he roared in shock and fury and jumped from the sofa in a sodden rage, she ran back into his living room and slammed the door, her heart beating at ten times it’s normal rate.
