Draco and Ron continued to use the room of requirement to meet and they grew closer and closer. Graduation was at the end of the week, and Ron was putting plans into action. He was going to move into his flat right away, going home only long enough to tell his parents and gather a few things. It didn’t have anything to do with being away from his parents although his mother was suffocating as times. He just wanted to be there in case Draco needed to get away from his own home sooner than he expected.
“Hey Harry.” He fell into an armchair. “Where’s Hermione?”
“She’s on her way down.” Harry said.
“Good, I need to talk to you both.” He said.
“Really?” Harry said raising his eyebrows. “Must be important.”
“It is.” He said without expression.
Hermione came into the common room at that point. The common room was empty so they had a good amount of privacy as the rest of the house watched the Ravenclaw Hufflepuff match. “I need to tell you something, two things incidentally.”
“What’s going on?” Hermione asked.
“I’ve been seeing someone for the past couple of months,” he said, “and it’s gotten very serious.”
“How serious?” Harry asked.
“Who is it?” Hermione asked at the same time.
“I’ll get to who it is and how serious in a moment, but I need to tell you something else first.” He said. “I have a job set up at Nimbus and managed to arrange for a flat and I’m going to be moving in right away.”
Harry’s face brightened up. “That’s amazing.”
“I agree,” Hermione said, “but why move so quickly?”
“Aside from wanting to get away from my mother, I have a feeling I’m going to need the space when I tell them what I need to tell them.” He fell silent. “I’m seeing a man.” His eyes went from one friend to the other.”
Harry and Hermione were silent as they looked at Ron. “That’s a shock.” Harry said.
“There’s nothing wrong with it.” Hermione countered, looking at him.
“I didn’t say there was anything wrong with it,” he said, “it’s just a shock. A lot of times the closest friends are the ones who know before they do themselves.” Hermione thought for a moment, seeing his point.
“Are you upset?” Ron asked, still watching them both.
Harry shook his head as if he had just been given the latest Chudley Cannons stats. “No.”
“Of course not Ron, but why do you need to move right away?” She asked.
Ron felt a sense of loyalty from his friends and was so relieved. He didn’t think they would object, but he was nervous none the less. “Aside from wanting to get away from my mother when I tell her,” he watched his two friends shrug, “the man I’m seeing hasn’t told his family or anyone else. I’m only telling you, but I’m letting my whole family know when I go home to get my things. He doesn’t know how his parents will react. He may need a place to go to if things don’t go well.”
“Would his parents really take it badly?” Harry asked.
“He doesn’t know, so I want to be there right away in case things go as badly as he thinks they might.” Ron explained.
“Who is it?” Hermione asked.
“I can’t say. He only knows that I’m telling the two of you and after we leave the school I will only be going home for the afternoon, then I will be at my flat.” Ron said.
“Do you think it will be a problem?” Harry asked.
“I hope not, but it might not go as smoothly as some may think.” He said. “Besides like I said, after I tell my parents, I think I will need the privacy.”
Harry nodded, knowing how Molly Weasley could be at times. Hermione wanted to speak up for the woman, but couldn’t. Molly was very protective and caring, and at times it came across as forceful.
Ron met Draco in the room that night. There was no bed, just a couch and a small side table with drinks. “Hello.” He kissed Draco’s cheek and sat down beside him, draping an arm around his shoulder. “I told Harry and Hermione.”
Draco looked at him with wide eyes. “How much did you tell them?”
“I didn’t mention your name.” He said.
“Ashamed?” He teased.
“No. I’m not.” Ron laughed. “That’s your secret to tell, not mine.”
Draco smiled and leaned in for a kiss. “What did they say?”
“They were shocked but accepting. Hermione wanted to know who I was seeing, but she is just going to have to suffer.” He said with a grin. He always thought Hermione was too nosy for her own good.
Draco’s silence worried him a little. “Are you alright?”
“Yes,” the blonde assured him, “you are still going to tell your parents?”
“Yes, everything will happen just as I’ve planned it. I am still only going home to tell them and gather some things. I will be at my flat by early afternoon.” He said.
“Will you send me an owl when you get there?” Draco asked.
“Yes, of course.” Ron took in his thoughtful look. “You’re going to tell your parents aren’t you?”
“Yes. I want to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. I may send some things shrunk, with the owl, just in case.” He said.
“Alright.” Ron said and watched Draco’s face switch from worried to outfight scared. “This is a good thing Draco. Telling them the truth is good.”
“I wanted to give you some space of your own before running to you.” He admitted.
“It will be empty without you. I can’t wait for you to be there with me.” He said. “I love you.”
Draco’s head spun to the side. “You what?”
“I love you.” Ron repeated. They had admitted to strong feelings for one another at this point, but had never said they loved each other. Draco didn’t know what to say. “I don’t expect you to say it back, not unless you mean it. I just want you to know that you mean so much to me, and having you move in with me is something I want, not just something I’m willing to do.”
“Ron, if my father kicks me out it will be with nothing, he won’t……..” Draco was stopped but Ron’s hands on his face.
“Do you think I want you for money?” He asked. “If that is what you think, then I haven’t showed you anything recently.”
“You have Ron, you’ve shown me so much.” Draco countered not wanting Ron to think he was paying attention to him. “I just don’t want to feel like I’m running to you with nothing.”
“It doesn’t matter to me what you bring, as long as you bring yourself. You could show up with just your cloak and I’ll always welcome you.” He said. “I want you there, no matter what.”
Draco felt like crying. Ron wanted him with nothing. For once in his life someone wanted him without thinking about his money or his family connections. Ron wanted him and only him. He didn’t care if his father or his family rejected him.
He rested his head on Ron’s shoulder. Secure in Ron’s love, but nervous about telling his father. His father’s temper was notorious and he was far from being considered ideal father material. Draco always fought to earn approval. He understood unconditional love from his mother, but when it came to his father, respect and praise was earned and even if it was earned it was rarely shared.
Draco’s own respect level for his father had dropped since the trip to the brothel. He found himself not caring what his father thought of him, but the man was his father and to be ousted because of his sex life was hypocritical. The man cared so little for his marriage that it shouldn’t matter who his son chose to have sex with. Draco could only hope that things we quickly. He had given up on hoping they went well.
At the end of the week, Draco and Ron found no time for the room. Graduation was upon everyone and preparations to leave the castle were underway. The graduation ceremony was a beautiful affair and the students were all over the place saying goodbye to their friends.
Draco passed by Ron, as he said goodbye to a friend and accepted congratulations from others. He saw Ron give him a look then slipped into the lavatory nearby.
Draco slipped away and left for the gents. Ron was waiting in the last stall, holding the door open. They shared a heated snog, groping and fondling for all they were worth. Draco let his tears fall. He couldn’t hold them in anymore. After several moments. Ron pulled away.
“Here is my address.” He slipped a pit of parchment into Draco’s trouser pocket. “I’ll be there by 3 this afternoon. If you need to, you come to me.”
Draco nodded and held onto Ron as long as he could. Both wiped tears away before Ron slipped out and to his waiting family. Draco followed to his own parents a few moments later.
There was no way he was staying away from Ron a moment longer. He had to be with him, his father be damned.
