It was the first scheduled Hogsmeade weekend of the year for the seventh year group. Professors, however, would be patrolling the streets and shops to make sure that everyone remained safe.
Harry had finished dressing in jeans and a sweater and had a pair of black robes draped casually on, the front falling open. Standing in his room he stared at the small snake figurine that Severus had given him on his first day back at Hogwarts. Taking the portkey he ran his fingers over the amazingly warm metal and then slipped it into the pocket of his robes.
Walking into the small common room that he shared with Severus, Harry found the man already dressed and obviously waiting on him. Harry was rather surprised with Snape's wardrobe. Yes, he was still dressed in all black but this time his robes were falling open the way Harry's were and revealed the muscularly trim body that was wrapped in a black button-up and slacks. Easily Harry could imagine what Snape looked like under the fitted shirt and slacks, and the mental image made his gut clench.
"Ready?" Snape asked.
Harry nodded, hoping Snape hadn’t caught him staring, and the pair walked out of the dungeons together. When they got to the main hall, where everyone else was waiting, Severus turned to Harry, "I'm not going to follow you around and treat you like you're five but I want you to be over cautious and watch yourself, okay? And don't do anything stupid." With that the man walked away to stand with the other staff and Harry looked after him with a raised eyebrow.
I must look stupid today. Harry thought sarcastically at Snape's little speech.
"Harry over here!" Hermione waved Harry down and he went over to join his usual gang of friends, excitement fluttering in his stomach at getting to spend some time in Hogsmeade with his favorite people.
Dumbledore stood at the front, a barrier between the students and the way out, "I want you all to travel in groups of three, no less, and remember to be cautious as you travel. Professors will be walking amongst you so try not to let them dampen your fun." The headmaster smiled fondly at his students and then moved out of the way of the door and let them go.
The walk to Hogsmeade was invigorating and the way the breeze played softly across his face made Harry long for Quidditch and his broom. What'll Snape be like after Gryffindor beats Slytherin again? Harry wondered with a little smirk.
"Where to first?" Ron questioned as the sun began to beat down on them from overhead.
"Zonko's!" Came Seamus and Dean's simultaneous answer.
The five friends went into the joke store together and meandered about for a bit, each buying a few good pranks that they could set off in the hall during class changes to piss off Filch.
When they were finished they began walking down the street to the Three Broomsticks.
"You know, I haven't seen Snape yet, I thought that he'd be stalking your every step." Ron commented as they walked.
"Yeah, well, he told me this morning before he left that he wasn't going to follow me around so I shouldn't ‘do anything stupid.’ I've escaped Voldemort six times I think I can handle any trouble we face in Hogsmeade." Harry said with a roll of his eyes.
"I think he just cares for your well-being and meant for you not to do anything that might perhaps draw unnecessary attention to yourself." Hermione said, feeling a need to stick up for Snape.
All four males looked at Hermione with a face that said 'yeah right'. The young woman shrugged and they filed into the Three Broomsticks, Hermione going to the bar to get their butterbeers and the boys going to the corner to grab their usual booth.
Hermione returned with their drinks and they eagerly gulped at the smooth liquid that warmed their insides.
"So we heard that you're having private lessons with Dumbledore, what are they like?" Dean asked, wondering what it would be like to be trained by the Headmaster himself.
"They're .. rather intense." Harry said truthfully, "The first day was just a bunch of talk and things, and him telling me that I should pass on what I learn to the DA. The second day, however, we sparred off against each other and there was no rules and it wasn't a gentleman's duel. In fact I ended cracking my head over a table when he hit me with a stunning spell."
Hermione's eyebrows shot up, "Isn't that a bit dangerous?"
Harry shrugged, "I guess he's just trying to prepare me for the real thing. As he said, Death Eaters won't fight by the rules so I might as well learn to attack first and ask questions later."
"So what have you learned then?" She questioned.
"Some great shield spells mostly, and how to deflect things like stunning spells. I believe this upcoming week I finally get to work on some attack spells." Harry commented.
"Hey! Look over there, mate, I believe someone is scamming on your Professor." Seamus said with a grin as he pointed towards the bar.
Harry raised an eyebrow and leaned around Ron to see that Snape was indeed sitting at the bar, and a slender blonde man was leaning against the bar beside of him. The way the stranger smiled and raked his eyes over Severus' image made Harry grit his teeth.
The bonding rose hot and strong inside Harry and his eyes narrowed in the direction of the male that dared to talk with his mate. His mate. Harry had never felt so possessive, blood practically throbbed in his ears, tuning out Hermione as she encouraged him to relax.
Harry watched as Severus said something to the man, calm and composed as usual, and then the blonde had the nerve to put his hand on Severus' arm in an openly flirtatious manner.
"Oh that's it!" Harry snarled as he practically climbed over the table, spilling butterbeers as he went, and stormed over to the blonde and Severus.
When neither turned to acknowledge his presence Harry tapped on the blonde's shoulder, "Hey.” It wasn’t the most intelligent remark ever, but Harry could barely think with the jealous rage of the bonding pounding through his skull.
The blonde laughed and spared a glance at Harry, "Just walk away kid."
Severus let his eyes pass between the two and the expression of rage on Harry's face at the other man's words interested him. So he's jealous.
Harry held up a finger, not realizing how much his actions resembled Hermione at the moment, "I don't think you realize but you're standing beside of my mate so it would be best if you moved." Little did Harry realize that the more he spoke the louder he became and many of the patrons had stopped and were watching the scene unfold. He never acted this way, but he felt irrationally angry at this stranger.
"What are you going to do about it?" The blonde sneered.
There was a pause, a moment of silence, all of the eyes in the bar flicking between Harry and the blonde.
"I'm going to kick your ass." Harry said decided, swiping his bangs out of his eyes angrily, not even going for his wand because he was going to take care of this guy the old fashion way.
When his bangs were swept back the blonde got a good look at the scar on his forehead, "You're Harry Potter!" The man laughed, "You can't even take care of Peter Pettigrew," so that had obviously gotten out, "what are you going to do? Tell Voldemort that I'm you're long lost brother so he'll come and kill me too?"
That was the final straw.
Harry lunged at the blonde but Severus intercepted. Harry, however, was determined and he struggled as Severus grabbed him around the waist and drug him outside.
"Potter! Stop acting like a child!" Snape hissed at Harry, who was still trying to get around him so that he could go back inside and rip the blonde's tongue out.
Harry rounded on Snape, "Why were you talking to him?" The Gryffindor demanded hotly.
Snape quirked an eyebrow, "I don't think that I have to explain myself to you. I'm perfectly capable of talking to whomever I please." The Slytherin replied defensively, because he didn't feel that Harry had any right in accusing him of anything. After all, hadn’t it been him, Severus Snape, who had given up his life of solitude (which he had enjoyed, damn it) in order to bond with Harry Potter?
"Oh please! You two were undressing each other with your eyes!" Harry exclaimed. Before he had become bonded to Severus he would have cared less what the man did, but now that they were bonded, Harry had decided that he was going to be the only one in Severus Snape’s life and he expected Severus to think the same.
Severus was actually stunned by the reply because undressing the man in the bar had been the farthest thing from his mind.
The silence, however, only proved his guilt to Harry, "I hate you." Harry said almost quietly to Snape and then turned and began walking back to the school.
Snape stood and watched him walk away, stunned again by what Harry had said. Before, it wouldn't have mattered if Harry hated him because the feelings had been mutual, but now, when things were going better between them, to hear those words felt like a kick in the stomach.
"You should have stopped him sir." Hermione remarked from behind him softly and then she too hurried away after Harry, just to make sure that he made it back to the castle safely.

"Thanks for letting me stay." Harry told his former dorm mates as he climbed into the bed that had once been his. The Gryffindor couldn't bring himself to go back to the quarters that he shared with Severus because it meant having to be alone with the man. After what Harry had said to him Harry knew that things would be incredibly awkward between them and he couldn't handle that.
Both men slept restlessly that night.
The next morning Harry dressed sleepily, his eyes burning from not getting the sleep that he needed. Since it was Saturday the students meandered down to the Hall for breakfast whenever it suited them, and by the time Harry got there everyone else had showed up as well.
Sitting down, Harry shoveled in some food. There's no wonder why Severus would be talking to someone else, I'm not exactly .. good looking. Harry sipped some pumpkin juice and nearly choked on it. Argh, and now I'm sitting around hoping that Snape thinks I'm hot, MERLIN, what is the world coming to?!!
Disgusted at his own vain thoughts Harry pushed his plate away and brought his eyes up just in time to see Severus glance away. It was obvious that the man had been watching Harry, but neither was willing just yet to speak to the other.
"I'm taking my broom out for a bit of flying. Anyone want to come?" Harry questioned Ron and Hermione.
"We, erm, would but, we've got, uh, got something to do. We'll catch up with you for lunch?" Ron spoke for the pair and when they went traipsing off together Harry narrowed his eyes.
"Why didn't you just say that you were going off to suck face?" Harry muttered, looking up and this time locking eyes with Severus. Breaking the eye contact Harry got up and headed hastily from the Dining Hall.
Collecting his broom from the Gryffindor locker room broom closet, Harry carried it out onto the pitch, relieved to see that it was empty, with most people hanging around the lake. Straddling his broom Harry kicked off, his frustration and anger evident in the kick as it sent waves of pain up his shins. The pain was overlooked in the glory of the flight as the wind rushed through his hair and the weightlessness of flight overtook his body.
Zooming around the stands Harry sighed and let the tension of the night before drain away.
From the stands Severus watched his young mate fly, his dark eyes following his every smooth movement as he weaved among the clouds and then dived back towards the ground, only to pull up at the last moment and go rocketing upwards again.
Severus had been sure that Harry would return to their quarters that night, giving him an opportunity to speak with him, he hadn't imagined that the Gryffindor would go running back to his old common room and dormitory. I really don't care, he's the one that needs me, not the other way around. If Voldemort takes over he still believes me to be a faithful supporter so it's not like I'll suffer. The Slytherin told himself, although another feeling surfaced in his chest which plainly told him that he cared very greatly over the Gryffindor's feelings and his choice of residence.
Being lost in his thoughts, Severus didn't notice when Harry recognized his presence. Harry hovered in the air for a long while, debating what he should do. What have I got to go back to? Hermione and Ron? Harry snorted and made his decision.
