Hermione couldn’t hide her amusement as she watched Harry pace back and forth in front of the fireplace. She’d explained that tonight she would claim her mate, although she said his name was Derik and he was a friend of her mother’s. She also explained who Lysander was, what he wanted, and the necessity for her to go through this. Harry, in true Harry fashion, blew his top. She was very thankful they were outside when she’d told him. He could very well have woken the whole house.
“Hermione, you don’t have to do this!” Harry cried as he made another pass across the room.
“I do,” she answered calmly. “It’ll be alright Harry. It’ll protect me and I can focus on helping you.”
“But you’ll have to cater to him! Where is the logic in that?” Harry threw his hands up in the air for the twelfth time in an hour.
“I won’t cater to him. What if Lysander is the next vampire You-Know-Who sways Harry? He would try harder to get me…maybe so hard I couldn’t resist next time. He’s very powerful…and very old.”
Harry sat down hard beside her. “I suppose there is that. What if he told Vol-sorry-snake face about you anyway?”
Hermione sighed. “Severus said there were several ancient laws in place to keep vampires from revealing each other publicly. Besides the fact that he doesn’t know my name, I think he’ll abide by those rules at the very least.”
“He’s not an occlumens Hermione.”
“No but he is a vampire,” Hermione countered and handed him a book. “As such, it’s damn near impossible to break into his head, especially since he is so old. Read the passage Harry; it talks all about mind controlling powers possessed by vampires.”
That was how Ron and Ginny found them an hour later, still reading their perspective books. The Weasleys popped down on the sofa, frowning at how close their friends were. Hermione had managed to snuggle her way on top of Harry, using his lap for a pillow and his knee for a book prop while he rested his arm on her shoulder. It was a comfortable position, one that brought some sense of calm to Hermione. She was thankful to get it, considering she’d be mating with Draco soon.
“What are you two reading then?” Ron asked a bit too loudly.
Harry jumped, jostling Hermione’s book and causing it to fall to the floor. He apologized profusely, knowing that he might have just damaged Snape’s book. He had been so engrossed in the abilities of vampires that he hadn’t heard his friends trek in.
“It’s okay Harry. It’s got several protective charms on it,” Hermione assured him. She picked the book up and marked her place with her finger.
“Well?” Ron asked a little more impatiently.
“Just a few books we found in the library,” Hermione said breezily.
“I find it hard to believe that Harry is doing a bit of light reading,” Ginny groused.
“Huh?” Harry asked before marking his place and shutting the book. Ginny was scowling at him. “Oh, um, it’s about vampires. It’s brilliant. Did you know they are natural occlumens?”
Ron scoffed. “There’s nothing natural about a vampire mate. They’re soulless monsters.”
Harry frowned. “Well, I think they are amazing. They can do all kinds of cool stuff.”
Ron waved him off. “Yeah, except walk out into the sunlight or touch silver.”
“I can’t touch silver either, Ron,” Lupin said quietly as he entered the room.
“Oh, right,” Ron said, paling a bit. “But you’re fine. I mean, you’re harmless most of the time and stay away when you aren’t.”
“And vampires don’t have to harm their prey either,” Remus said softly, giving a nod to Hermione. It was the first sign that he accepted what she was and she couldn’t help but beam back at him.
“So what’s that you’re reading then Hermione?” Ginny asked quickly, trying to cut through the tension that suddenly descended.
Hermione felt herself flush violently as she tried to jerk the book out of sight before Ginny could read the cover. It was too late though and Ginny’s blush matched hers as she read it aloud: ‘Let’s Mate: the Biter’s Guide to Vampire Claiming.’
“Blimey,” Ron said, his own face an interesting shade of puce. “What are you reading that for?”
“It’s fascinating,” Hermione said weakly.
Ron grimaced. “Sounds horrifying. Do they suck each other dry? I bet it’s painful.”
“On the contrary,” Sirius boasted as he walked through the door. Hermione knew he’d been listening in for a few minutes but she’d hoped he would keep quiet. Apparently that was too much to ask.
“What do you mean?” Ginny asked.
Sirius grinned smugly. “Oh, they’re demons in the sack for sure but the pain is pleasure. Haven’t you ever heard of a succubus?”
“Well, yeah,” Ron said haughtily.
“Most are vampires,” Sirius said matter of factly.
Hermione wanted to crawl under the couch. The last thing she wanted to discuss at that moment was vampire sex. She was already on edge as it was. Logically, she knew that everything would be fine. Even if it hurt at first, she would heal quickly and they would get on to more pleasurable things. But what if she wasn’t good? Would Draco regret it? Something Sirius said caught her attention though and made her want to ring his neck.
“I remember this one girl, Slytherin, red hair. I could have sworn her dad was a vampire, tall, black hair, electric blue eyes. She looked nothing like him. Nasty personality, that one. She tried to get her claws into me but I called her bluff.”
Hermione almost bit through her lip when he got to that part. Of course he’d talk about her mother like she was some sort of harlot. Harry noticed her distress immediately, pulling her back into his lap and rubbing her back. She was shaking from her attempts to control herself. Sirius continued on and on about how her mother was a right piece of work.
“Attached herself to old Snivelly when she realized she couldn’t have me. It was pathetic, really.”
Hermione couldn’t help but growl when he got to that part. How dare that bastard! She clung to Severus because he saved her fucking life…and Sirius had ruined hers earlier than she’d planed and in more ways than one. She wanted to rip him apart.
“Hermione,” Harry whispered almost silently so no one else could hear him. “Are you okay?”
“No,” she snarled softly. “He’s-he’s…I can’t do this. I have to get out of here. How close is it to dusk?”
Harry craned his neck to catch a peek out the window. “Sunset was probably a few minutes ago,” he whispered.
“I can’t stay,” Hermione said frantically just as Sirius was making Ron chortle with tales of a Red the Snake Shadow, as he had taken to calling Melody. She frantically tapped the crucifix pendent three times, hoping she wouldn’t frighten her parents but fearing an outburst if they didn’t come soon.
“That girl, I swear,” Sirius sighed after relaying rumors that she was joining Myrtle in the loo.
Hermione was about to claw his eyes out when a frantic knocking sounded at the door. “Hermione, damn it, let me in!”
“Oh!” Hermione shrieked, realizing it was her mother that was at the door. She sprinted to the door and yanked it open, revealing her mother wearing her Cara glamour, looking terrified and bleeding from her side. “Oh gods! What happened?”
“Lysander,” Melody said through gritted teeth. “He tried to make a play and learned about your agreement…so he declared war.”
“No!” Hermione breathed, stricken. “Is…are they alright?”
“They’re fine. Your mate is something else…and particularly fond of silver spells. Anyway, they had Lysander pinned when we got your call. Are you alright?”
“No,” Hermione almost cried. “I can’t stand it! I have to get out of here.”
“What’s wrong little one?” Melody rasped. It wasn’t hard to tell she was in pain.
“Sirius,” Hermione said darkly and jumped when her mother’s knees buckled. “Merlin, come in. What happened?”
“Bloody prick stabbed me,” Melody spat and looked around, taking note of several shocked faces that had just entered. “Look,” she whispered softly. “Severus altered the Burrow's wards so I could walk through them but the floo is blocked right now and I’m not in any shape to apparate at the moment.”
“Let me heal you,” Hermione whispered and half carried her to the kitchen. “Get on the table.”
Melody swore quite colorfully when she laid back. She’d managed to undo her robes, revealing a rather scandalous corset and leather mini skirt. It was almost shredded, only the barest scraps protecting her modesty. On her side was a large gash that was bubbling black ooze around it. Blood steadily leaked from the wound, weakening her further.
Hermione immediately forgot anyone else was there and reverted to the foul mouth she’d picked up from her mother. “What in the bleeding hell did he stab you with, a fucking axe?”
Melody chuckled at the scandalized gasps and then winced. “Poisoned blade, probably something close to nightshade…ironic isn’t it?”
“Quite,” Hermione said dryly. “How do I heal it?”
“You can’t,” Melody sighed. “Not fully, at least. First, cast the cauterizing spell, just here.” She pointed to a spot on her side that was clean. “Make sure to aim it about two inches below the skin. That should stop the spread.”
“But-but that’s not going to-“
“You’re patching Hermione, not fixing. Don’t worry, I’m not going to die.” Melody smiled sadly and looked over at Remus who had come up surprisingly close to them. “Remus, keep her steady please?”
Remus nodded and ran his hand over Hermione’s arm, showing her the proper stance to take to cast the spell. Then he stepped back and nodded, signaling her to ready herself. She shouted the spell, aiming for the spot Melody had indicated and holding it with all her might. This spell was one based on sheer force. It had to be cast at the base of a wound to stop the bleeding. Melody’s blood curdling scream made her want to cry but she held steady. Her mother would get better…regardless of how it hurt.
“What now?” Hermione panted when the spell ended.
Melody, to her credit, merely gasped until she regulated her breathing and then looked up at her through clear eyes. “That’s about it. If we heal it now, the poison will be trapped. I’m afraid I’m spent. That wasn’t the first hit I took.”
“Does he know you’re hurt?” Hermione asked.
Melody cackled. “Honestly, do you think he would have let me go if he knew?”
“Suppose not,” Hermione murmured.
Just then, Molly came careening through the door, wild eyed with wands at the ready. “What was that screaming? Oh my goodness! Who is this? What happened?”
“That’s what I want to know!” Sirius growled. “Who are you?”
“Honestly,” Melody snorted. “I’m her bloody healer. Do you think she goes around snatching injured people through doors for sport?”
“Wait,” Sirius said, his eyes narrowing. “I’ve seen you before. Weren’t you at the joke shop?”
Remus cut his eyes at Sirius and shook his head violently, causing the raven haired man to pause. “That was a different woman,” Remus said softly.
Melody shivered violently and growled in pain as the poison started another push into her body.
“Is there anything I can do?” Hermione asked frantically.
Melody bit her lip and nodded. “Capsule,” she breathed.
Hermione’s eyes widened in understanding. She needed blood to regenerate. “Be right back,” she called before she raced up to her room, searching frantically through her things for her extra blood pellets. She finally found her prize and almost tripped in her haste to get back. She could hear the bewildered murmurings and they weren’t sounding very friendly. “Here!” She called and popped a capsule in her mother’s mouth before anyone could see what it was.
“Gross,” Melody croaked. “I really hate licorice.”
“Me too,” Hermione said with a smile. “Do you need another?”
Melody nodded and opened her mouth obediently for another. She grimaced less the second time around and sighed in relief. “Scourgify the blood.”
Hermione held her wand out but was stopped by Remus. “Let’s not tempt fate, shall we?” He asked quietly before he scourgified all the blood, going so far as to place a white cloth underneath Melody to catch any excess.
“What else?” Hermione asked frantically, noticing that Melody was in excruciating pain.
“I’ve got to go back or I’m going to be in huge trouble.”
“How?” Hermione asked.
“Guess I’ll have to walk,” Melody said, frowning at the prospect. “Port keying would undo the spell work, possibly rip it further.”
“And walking wouldn’t?” Hermione asked.
“Better than a magical trip,” Melody said and heaved herself up from the table, gasping in pain as she fell to the floor.
“You won’t make it out the bloody door!” Hermione cried. “It’s four hours to your house!”
“I just need to make it to town,” Melody said softly, her meaning clear. Feeding would heal her enough for a rougher trip. The synthetic blood only did so much.
“No you bloody well won’t!”
Melody visibly cringed when Severus burst through the door. Hermione spun in shock. She hadn’t even heard or smelled him approaching. He looked worse for wear, his robes tattered. Blood was spattered across his face.
Melody looked up meekly. “Is he gone?”
“Yes,” Severus snapped. “Why didn’t you tell me you had been hit?”
“You said go,” Melody whispered. “So I went.”
Severus was shaking with rage but managed to compose himself quickly. “Lay down on the table.”
Melody groaned. “I just got off the bloody table.”
“I said on!” Severus roared and leaned down to help her scramble back on. He pulled several bottles of potions out of his pockets and started pouring them over the wound, each one burning the flesh, turning it different colors, or bubbling out the wound. Blood flowed in buckets and Melody started shaking again, her face deathly white.
“Another,” Melody croaked and reached out for Hermione.
Hermione quickly gave her another capsule and prayed she’d have enough for this healing. Melody shut her eyes, an obvious attempt to stop her tears. The pain must have been excruciating, her gasps and whimpers making Hermione’s heart hurt. Every now and then, Hermione would tip another capsule into Melody’s mouth. By the fifth capsule, the blood had stopped pouring out of the wound. Hermione stepped away, allowing her father to continue working over Melody, muttering darkly as she directed him on which spells to use. She took that opportunity to step back into Harry’s arms.
“Who is she?” Harry breathed.
“My mother,” Hermione whispered back and felt Harry’s breath hitch. “She’s wearing a glamour.”
“Hermione?” Remus asked quietly. “Are you okay?”
Hermione shook her head. No she was not okay. Her mother was lying on a table, fighting for her life. She had called her out of a fight because she couldn’t handle harmless words from a bully. Melody could have died because of her. She was so selfish. She had to get out of the room. Her dash for the door was interrupted by a command.
“Stay in the house.” Her father’s order was soft but it brokered no argument. She let her head smack against the door, anguish and guilt overwhelming her. Harry followed her as she slid down into the floor and curled in a ball.
“That’s all I can do,” Severus said softly and stepped back from the table.
Hermione gathered the courage to look over. Her mother was breathing quite shallowly but she was still conscious. Melody was pale, paler than Lysander, and trembling. She couldn’t help it anymore, running over and sliding up beside her, apologizing over and over for calling her.
“Shush child,” Melody said softly. “You probably saved me. No telling what would have happened had I stayed.”
“You don’t know that,” Hermione sighed.
“But I do,” Severus said softly. “The next stab would have been to her heart. He hit thin air.”
Hermione clamped her hands over her mouth to stop a scream from erupting. Instead of panicking, she clung to Melody’s shoulders, thankful she was alive. Melody allowed her the small comfort for a few minutes before she pushed her away.
“Give me your wand please?” Melody asked.
“Where’s yours?” Hermione asked, not hesitating to hand hers over.
“Dropped it in the fight,” Melody explained as she started repairing her tattered clothing.
“It’s at the house. He recovered it,” Severus said with a pointed look at Hermione. Draco must have found it.
“Oh thank Merlin,” Melody muttered. “I don’t fancy having to go back to America to get a replacement.”
“Why there?” Hermione asked.
“My magic is apparently extremely volatile. I can wield others in a pinch but only mesquite with phoenix feather will work for me. Ironic, that, don’t you think?”
“Extremely,” Hermione said with a smile.
“Severus,” Molly cut in. “What happened?”
Severus gritted his teeth to keep himself from snapping a retort. “Let me get these two out of here and then I will tell you.”
“What?” Molly screeched. “Why?”
“Because they can’t stay here,” Severus bit out. “It isn’t safe.”
“The Burrow is perfectly safe,” Molly argued.
“Molly,” Remus cut in. “I agree with Severus. It isn’t safe for them to stay here.”
“Remus, the wards are strong enough to protect Harry. What on earth could possibly be after them?”
“It isn’t their safety I’m worried about,” Severus muttered under his breath causing Melody to cackle.
“He’s scared I’m going to barbeque the lot of you,” Melody said loudly. “I’m not the most stable person.”
“Indeed,” Severus said dryly and looked up when a jet black owl came careening through the window. It almost ran into him before hovering in midair and sticking its foot out at his nose. He hastily took the message and read through it before cursing and blasting the missive to bits.
“Bad news?” Melody asked.
“Yes,” Severus bit out. “The Dark Lord was made aware of the altercation tonight.”
“No,” Melody said weakly, her breathing coming in shallow pants.
“Calm down, it isn’t that bad. However, he has apparently made contact with another person who is willing to finish what Lysander agreed to before his launched attack.”
“Um…how much is he going to try and finish?” Melody asked uncomfortably. Her eyes glanced over to Hermione only once but the look of worry was clear.
“All of it.”
“If he wasn’t dust, I’d rip him apart with my bare hands,” Melody growled and sat up with a hiss.
“You aren’t doing anything. You need rest,” Severus said softly.
“Who warned us?” Hermione whispered.
Severus glanced around the room, taking note of the stunned faces on all but Potter. “An ally,” he said finally before turning to her and lowering his voice even further. “She isn’t strong enough to move. She needs to feed.”
Hermione nodded. “I…I’ll go get her something then.”
“You will do no such thing,” Severus hissed. “This new threat is magical. Until you are officially claimed, you will not be alone and even after that, you are to be near someone at all times. Is that understood?”
Hermione bowed her head. “Yes sir.”
“Now, we need to get you home so you can settle this. He was beside himself when I left. He won’t relax until you are in his arms.”
Hermione smiled but it faded quickly. “I’m not sure right now is the best time-“
“Nonsense,” Severus snapped. “It is the perfect time. Now, stay here and I’ll grab her something and then we’ll apparate straight home.” With that, he muttered his apologies and ran out of the house.
“What on earth?” Molly asked in exasperation.
“He forgot a potion,” Melody said quickly. “He’ll only be a moment and then we’ll be out of your hair.”
“Who are you?” Molly asked.
Melody took a deep breath and softly prayed to every deity she knew that her name didn’t bring up any memories. If so, she’d obliviate everyone in the room. Hermione’s eyes widened in shock at that statement but she couldn’t say anything. She watched as her mother gathered herself.
“My name is Melody. I am a healer…a very private one…though tonight proves I’m not quite as invisible as I would have liked. I was called in to help Hermione by Dumbledore.”
Murmurs filled the room but one voice caught Hermione’s attention. “Oh Merlin,” Remus gasped. “It can’t be.”
“Not a word Remus,” Melody snapped.
Remus stepped closer and muttered. “You’re her, the girl Sirius was just talking about, the one from Slytherin.”
Melody turned to look at Hermione. “You called me so you wouldn’t kill him, huh?”
Hermione nodded shamefully. “I couldn’t stand it anymore. I wanted to rip his lying throat out.”
Melody chuckled. “Well, I can’t blame you there, anything to shut him up.”
Remus growled. “What aren’t you saying?”
Melody’s eyes narrowed. “Why in the bloody hell do you think I am the way I am Remus?”
“Because you were bitten,” Remus said in confusion.
“No. I would have never succumbed to a bite. Ever.”
“I don’t understand,” Remus said softly.
Hermione looked for permission, sighing when Melody nodded. She tugged him over to the hallway and leaned in close enough that no one else could hear. “Look Remus, you heard Sirius. He said he swore her dad was a vampire. Well, he was. And the only reason her life was spared was because he agreed to turn her. The coven agreed to wait until she found her mate. And she did. And she avoided him like the plague because if she got together with him, they would force the turning. But one day, she was too weak to resist and her mate took advantage but left her when the weekend was over. Do you think you can piece the rest together?”
Remus blinked rapidly, obviously lost in memories of the past. “Sirius. She confronted Sirius weeks later claiming she was pregnant. He was her mate?”
Hermione nodded. “Sort of. It’s complicated but the point is that he told her to deal with it.”
Remus shut his eyes in pain. “Sirius was convinced it was a ploy.”
“It was no ploy,” Hermione growled. “The rumors were true Remus. She tried to kill herself, drank poison but she was found and given the antidote. She did lose the baby though. Good thing too because the vampires would have ripped them both apart. She was turned after exams.”
Remus let out a sad sigh. “Severus saved her. That’s why she clung to him so tightly.”
“Actually,” Hermione giggled. “It was the other way around. He didn’t want her to try again. After the year, he was the only one to know about her turning.”
Remus nodded. “So that is why you were so angry.”
Hermione nodded. “She helped me through my turning. She’s the only reason I’m not running wild with a coven…or under You-Know-Who’s command.”
“What?” Remus hissed.
Hermione sighed. “He’s recruited a vampire to turn people…but only submissives. He wishes to use their weakness in the first stages of their new life to control them, the time when they can’t fight his control.”
“Does Dumbledore know?” Remus asked.
“I don’t know,” Hermione mused. “Professor Snape only found out a few days ago.”
“So then this attack?”
Hermione ducked her head. “Vampires…looking for me. They wish to claim me because I am so powerful.”
“So that’s why you were reading that book,” Remus said with a smirk.
Hermione blushed. “I found my true mate. I…I’ve agreed to enter into a claiming with him. He won’t exploit me…and I’ll be protected from the other covens.”
“Claimings are forever.”
“I know. I’ll be fine.”
Remus nodded. “If you’re sure then. Hermione…I wish to apologize for my behavior earlier. I…forgot what it was like to be newly cursed.”
Hermione nodded. “I understand. We’re natural enemies, though I don’t want to be. Truce?”
Remus smiled softly. “Truce.”
Hermione caught something, the sound of muttered curses in a deep voice. “He’s back.”
“He went to get blood I assume?” Remus asked.
Hermione nodded. “She’s lost too much and the synthetics aren’t enough to help her.”
“Best get in there then,” Remus said and they hurried back into the kitchen.
“Is that blood?” Ron cried when Severus held out a vial of crimson liquid.
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Melody said before downing it. A look of relief crossed her face before she handed the bottle back. “Better. We can go now.”
“Let’s be off then,” Severus said and helped her to stand on somewhat shaky legs. “I’ll return shortly for Miss Granger.”
Hermione sighed in relief when she heard the crack of his departure a few moments later.
“Was she really your healer?” Sirius asked with narrowed eyes.
Hermione couldn’t hold back the sneer of contempt. “Yes! She saved my fucking life. She doesn’t need your suspicions.”
“Why haven’t we seen her then?” Sirius asked.
“Because,” Hermione hissed. “Unlike some people, she can bloody well stay hidden!” With that, she turned and ran to her room. She didn’t want any other altercations that night. It was enough to see her mother laid out before her like a slab of meat. She did find some joy in the scolding that Sirius got from Molly and Remus for upsetting her. Served the lying wanker right.
A soft knock startled her. “Hermione?” Harry asked softly. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Come in Harry.”
He walked in cautiously. “How is she, really?”
“Well, I gather you know that wasn’t strawberry syrup,” Hermione said dryly.
“Decidedly not,” Harry chuckled. “What happened?”
“The vampire I told you about, the one that wanted me?” Harry nodded and she sighed heavily. “He started his attack tonight. He’s been destroyed but it seems you were right. You-Know-Who has taken up another vampire to continue his turning experiments. This next recruit heard of me and wants to claim me as well.”
“So you’re going through with claiming your mate?” Harry asked cautiously.
“Of course,” Hermione scoffed. “I’ve got to or they could be seriously injured next time.”
“What’s to keep this new vampire from killing your mate and taking you for his own?”
“Vampire laws. He’d be destroyed if he separated a mated pair on those grounds.”
Harry shook his head. “You lot are hard to understand.”
Hermione chuckled. “Yes, I can hardly understand it myself but I must. It’s my life now.”
“Well, good luck then,” Harry said softly.
“I’ll need it,” Hermione replied.
“Um, what did you tell Remus?” Harry asked.
“He knew my mother from school,” Hermione said softly. “I just wanted to make sure he didn’t tell anyone else. We’ve come to a truce.”
“That’s good,” Harry exhaled and jerked when the door downstairs opened with a crack. “That’ll be your ride. At least he won’t be your Dom anymore, right?”
Hermione smiled. “I’ll still be sensitive to him but no, he won’t be my Dom. Night Harry. I’ll return…when I can. He said the venom will make me loopy.”
Harry chuckled and walked her down the stairs. “I’m sorry I won’t get to see it. I couldn’t imagine you high as a kite.”
Hermione smacked him as lightly as she could on the shoulder and marched over to her father. Molly was fussing at him, insisting that he didn’t need to take her. Remus came to her rescue, stating that he was certain Hermione would be kept safe. Finally, she agreed to returning as soon as she could and Molly relented.
“Blasted nosy woman,” Severus growled as they walked to the edge of the wards. “What exactly did Black say to upset you so?”
Hermione cringed. “You really don’t want to know.”
“Oh but I do,” Severus purred. “I have enough self-control not to rip his head off. However, I will exact a fitting revenge.”
Hermione sighed. “He painted her as a harlot and said she was clingy and tried to trick him into marriage.”
“You aren’t telling me everything,” Severus growled.
Hermione bit her lip hard, wincing at the taste of her own blood. Remarkably enough, her own blood still tasted like copper to her. Shaking her head to clear that errant thought, she went for broke. “He made fun of her. Said he swore her dad was a vampire. Told everyone how she was your little shadow. He called her pathetic because she clung to you.”
“I see,” Severus hissed dangerously. “Black won’t know what hit him.”
“Just don’t kill him,” Hermione said softly and snuggled into his arms when they breached the wards.
“No, of course not,” Severus said silkily. “But that doesn’t mean I can’t make him wish he were dead.”
A squeeze kept her from retorting and she reappeared in the sitting room of Severus’s house. Draco shouted her name and yanked her out of her father’s arms, spinning her around and smelling her to make sure she was fine.
“Thank Merlin you’re alright.”
“I was never in any danger,” Hermione said softly.
“Not true,” Melody said in a strained voice. “They’ve tracked your scent to the Burrow. They can’t breech the wards, but you were most definitely in danger.”
“Not after tonight,” Draco said darkly and put his mate down. “You’re mine now Hermione. Right?”
“Always,” Hermione said a bit breathlessly. Once she had seen that Melody was fine, she had smelled the amazing scent of Draco and her mouth watered. She jumped when Severus removed her collar. She hadn’t even kneeled but she realized that he had just done that the other day to tick Draco off. It brought a smile to her lips.
“Ready love?” Draco asked softly.
Hermione suddenly realized that she had no clue what to do. She hadn’t read the most important part of the book yet, having been interrupted by Ron and Ginny. “Um…could someone…explain it? I’m afraid my studies were interrupted.”
“Bloody Black,” Severus hissed but motioned for her to sit. Draco, taking the initiative, zipped into place before her and pulled her into his lap. Severus smirked before continuing on in his lecture voice. “Claiming happens in three steps, the verbal declaration, the bite, and the sealing, or fucking if you prefer. The first you’ve already done. The next, you’ll do where ever you intend to consummate the bond because there will be no time intervals in between the last two. The venom simply won’t allow it. You will bite your mate on the thigh as close to their genitals as possible.”
“Um,” Hermione whispered. “I don’t know how to inject venom.”
Severus nodded. “It’s instinct. You’ll sink you fangs in, draw out a mouthful of blood, and then mimic hissing while thinking about your mate being yours fully. You’ll feel a burning sensation rip through your mouth for a few moments. You’ll pull out when it is through and more than likely tackle each other to the mattress. Vampire claimings are often brutal. I can only say that you will heal very quickly.”
Hermione nodded, feeling a bit inadequate. She was so inexperience and already Draco’s sexual prowess was the talk of the school. She’d seen it first-hand but now…he was hers. What was she going to do?
“You’re going to stop thinking,” Draco chuckled. “You’ll be brilliant. Trust me.” To prove his point, he ground his already rock hard erection up into her thigh. If she needed more proof that he wanted her, there it was. “Come on, I’ve already set my room up.”
Hermione gulped. There was no backing out of this. She heard Severus and Melody discussing the best way to handle what happened at the Burrow but couldn’t bring herself to pay attention. Draco had steadily lead her up the stairs. She looked around his room in shock. It had been completely cleaned and repaired beforehand but every inch was now covered in floating candles and rose petals.
“I-I hope you like it,” Draco said uncharacteristically nervous. “I know the light doesn’t do anything for us now but…I thought that maybe…it might, um-“
“It’s beautiful,” Hermione breathed, saving him from having to bumble his way through an awkward explanation. She was touched that he’d gone to such trouble for her though. In fact, she was so grateful she spun around and kissed him.
What started out as a gentle thank you soon became a war of tongues and teeth, both fighting to get closer to the other. Frustration rose as they realized that they couldn’t in the position they were in. Hermione jumped back when the cloak was ripped from her body, revealing the black lacy tank top and pleated micro mini she’d been wearing. Her outfit was chosen carefully, sexy but not slutty. She didn’t want him to think she’d do this with just anyone.
Draco’s glowing eyes let her know that he appreciated the effort, quite a lot if the tent in his trousers was anything to go by. It was just then that she noticed that he was still scuffed up from his fight with Lysander. His pristine white shirt was covered in blood, trousers torn at the knees, hair mussed. He looked…edible.
She hissed when he carelessly ripped his clothes from his body and spelled his body clean. Chiseled and perfect porcelain skin was revealed with a fine line of hair that lead to a very large cock. She didn’t have Severus there as a comparison, but Draco could definitely hold his own. It made her stomach turn completely inside out at the thought of where it would be soon.
“Don’t worry,” Draco purred, stalking towards her like a panther. “It’ll fit just fine…and you’ll love it.”
She jumped when he zipped forward, snagging her around the waist and kissing her for all she was worth. At that moment, it didn’t matter how he’d acted before. It didn’t matter that they didn’t really know that much about each other. All that mattered was his body against hers, his tongue brushing over hers, his cock grinding into her stomach. She couldn’t stand much more. Her instincts took over, leading her to rip her own clothing off as well, pausing only momentarily so he could get a good look at the red lace thong and bra she was wearing. His growl was proof her efforts were appreciated and made her head spin.
When her brain surfaced again, she wondered how they’d both ended up on the bed nude. Draco was kissing her way down her body, stopping to pay close attention to her aching breasts. He traced circles around then before taking one stiff peak into his mouth and sucking gently. He let go with a pop and turned his attention to the other nipple. She thought she might possibly go insane from this treatment alone.
Draco chuckled at her whimpers and moved south towards the spot she knew he was fixing to claim. She tensed, afraid of what it was going to feel like. Instead of the sharp sting she was expecting, she yelped when a hot, wet tongue caressed her folds. Surely he wasn’t going to-
“Relax Hermione,” Draco whispered. “I just wanted to taste you before the bond made us both barmy.” Another lick. “You taste like heaven.” A flick on her clit. “And home.” A gentle suck. “It’s divine.”
Hermione couldn’t stop the moans that spilled from her mouth. Although this wasn’t her first oral experience, she’d never felt like this before. Fire pooled in her belly with each leisurely swipe of her dripping folds. Draco hummed in appreciation every few minutes, relaying how sweet she tasted, how much he wanted her, how he wasn’t sure he would be able to stop. A long finger was inserted into her core and quirked in just the perfect spot. Almost without warning, her body locked up before shocks consumed her, causing her to buck and twist and scream out in ecstasy.
He continued his ministrations until she finally came down off the highest high she’d ever been on. Now she understood what Melody meant about passing out from the pleasure. If it got any better than that, she’d definitely black out. She realized that Draco was now staring at her intently, his eyes just inches from her face.
Her stomach swooped in dread. “Are you not going to claim me?”
Draco gave her a reassuring smile. “Of course. I just wondered if you wanted to do this together. I mean, Severus said that the venom won’t allow any time and I figured if the venom hit our blood streams at the same time then one of us wouldn’t be waiting for the other to regain their senses.”
“Oh, right, of course,” Hermione stuttered. It was a good idea really. Neither knew how they’d react to the bite. She suspected this was also a way to quell her fears that he would claim her and then not let her do the same. If they bit at the same time, there was no doubt. But…how would they do it?
Draco smirked at her confused face and pulled her up. “Turn around, straddle my shoulders, and sit on my face.”
“What?” Hermione squeaked. She hadn’t expected him to be quite that blunt about it.
“I didn’t stutter Hermione. Do it.”
Hermione knew it wasn’t a harsh order, but she still felt the need to comply and wasn’t about to fight it. Cautiously, she turned to face his feet but couldn’t hide her blush when she spread her legs to straddle him. It was ridiculous. She wasn’t shy at all when he had snacked on her pussy like it was a cake. Huffing at her stupidity, she quickly squatted down low enough she could feel his breath ghosting across her still glistening lips.
This put her in perfect position to see Draco’s cock. She’d never seen one this close before. Sure, she had felt them as they rubbed against her and seen them before, even Draco’s, but never had she had the chance to get her hands on one. She felt like an idiot, wanting to examine it, but she couldn’t stop herself. She reached for the weeping member, the tip already flushed with need. It was…quite beautiful really. She ran a tentative hand down the shaft and noticed that it was silky soft in contrast to the hard muscle underneath.
Draco groaned loudly at the contact, making her pussy contract in pleasure. She wrapped her hand around it and noticed that her fingers didn’t close. Granted, she didn’t have the largest hands, but she figured that he was much larger than average. She gave it a few pumps and marveled as more and more precum leaked from the tip, now an angry red color. Ever the eager pupil, she decided that she had to know what it tasted like. A tentative lick at the slit made Draco snarl and curse.
“Fuck Hermione, you’re going to make me come like a first year.”
Hermione grinned wickedly. It hadn’t tasted bad at all, like an unnamed desert and…home. She quickly engulfed the head in her mouth before she could think on it any longer. Draco shouted both in shock and delight. He involuntarily jerked his hips forward, roughly plunging in her mouth and making her gag.
“Damn it, I’m sorry Hermione. Are you alright?”
Hermione released him quickly, her eyes watering from the sudden pain. She coughed a few times and then swallowed. Already the pain was ebbing, her body healing itself. “Good just…try not to do that again.”
Draco groaned. “I’m not going to last if you keep doing that. Just…bite and we’ll worry about your already excellent blow job skills later.”
Hermione couldn’t help but giggle a little. She was proud that she could make him that unhinged. Then she realized that this was it. All the breath left her body, leaving her a trembling mass of nerves. Sensing her trepidation, Draco reached up and rubbed down her spine, almost like one would do to a cat. It had the same effect, calming her down enough to function again.
“It’ll be fine,” he cooed. “On three.”
Hermione nodded and zeroed in on a spot. It was just to the left of his cock, right before the crease in his thigh. It called to her like a siren. It had to be her instincts taking over. She dimly heard Draco whisper three before she sunk her fangs in his leg. She felt an answering pinch, not anything like the excruciating ripping she’d felt before her turning. She sucked a mouthful of blood, savoring Draco’s unique flavor. He really did taste like heaven…and home. There would be no problem sharing blood with him if he tasted that wonderful.
She jumped when she felt the start of a burning sensation in her thigh and realized that Draco had already started injecting her. Fearing she’d be left behind, she did as Severus had instructed and pretended to hiss while thinking about him. He was hers now, all hers. Not even that slag Pansy Parkinson could touch what was hers. She felt it then, the burning sensation in her fangs before the leg muscle in her mouth contracted. Moments later, the burning stopped and she pulled back, giving a tentative lick to seal it.
She managed to flip herself around and land beside him before the venom in her thigh spread further, making her body cringe in pain. It was soon replaced with wave after wave of pleasure, taking her higher on a climb to completion. A few minutes in, she realized that it had taken her to the precipice but wasn’t allowing her to fall over. She snarled in frustration and yelped when she was suddenly jerked sideways and underneath a hissing Draco.
So this was what Severus meant. They were both suddenly fighting mad, angry that they couldn’t finish. Draco bent down to deliver a brutal kiss, his still bared fangs cutting into their flesh and mingling their blood. Copper and heaven and home, they shared their taste even as their hands roughly mapped each other. There was no care if a fingernail cut skin here or limbs were bruised there. What mattered was forcing their partner to comply, making the want stop. It was too much.
Draco yanked her legs open, his eyes flickering for a few moments. “Sorry Hermione, can’t help this.”
“Do it!” Hermione hissed back, knowing it would hurt like hell but not caring in the least. Anything would be better than this horrible…teetering on the edge. Melody had discussed edge play with her in great length some weeks ago and Hermione figured that if this was anything like that, she hated it. That was the last thing she thought as Draco’s enormous length plowed through her virgin hole, ripping and taking and leaving her with a searing pain. She screamed.
“Gods damn it,” Draco moaned. “I can’t stop! I can’t! Please forgive me.” To his credit, he was able to pause momentarily.
Hermione choked on her rage as tears flowed down her cheeks. She could never have imagined it would hurt that bad. Whose bright idea had this been anyway? Oh yes, hers. Idiot. Before she could berate herself again, the pain ebbed away and she was once again thankful for her supernatural healing. Now it was time to get down to business.
“Move,” she hissed.
Draco snarled back in her face. “You will not order me around!” To prove his point, he held still. The feeling of fullness without respite was driving her mad. She’d die if he didn’t move. Why did he torment her so?
“Why are you doing this to me?” Hermione asked frantically as the pleasure from the venom increased.
The angry leer slid off of Draco’s face, feeling her panic for the first time. He leaned down and captured her lips in a hard kiss because he couldn’t possibly be gentle with her at that moment and eased out of her tight channel. The next thrust was as brutal as the first but her screams were gone. He pulled back and smirked, realizing that she was already healed.
Hermione screamed again on his next thrust, a brutal snap of his hips that had her seeing stars. She was thankful he had a hold of her shoulder to keep her from cracking her head on the headboard. Draco sped up then, realizing that she could take the ruthless pace. A colorful array of curses and praise fell from her lips as he took her to places she never dreamed were possible, all the while still being denied the completion she so desperately sought. She clamped her inner muscles around him, hoping to speed things along.
“Merlin’s fucking cock ring,” Draco yelled.
Hermione giggle momentarily. That was definitely a new one. It didn’t deter Draco though, who moaned for her to do it again. She complied, loving the way she could feel every ridge and vein on his cock as it slid back and forth.
“Fuck, Hermione, you’re so fucking tight. It’s like a vice around my cock…so hot and wet. Ugh!”
Hermione’s next breath was ripped away from her as Draco went into overdrive, fucking her so hard she was crunched in a ball. In an attempt to go deeper Draco shot backwards, dragging her down and placing her legs on his shoulders before ramming his length back in. Hermione could only hold on as he plunged into her folds. She could hear her bones cracking but the pain didn’t register. Only pleasure, so much pleasure but no release. A hard thump to her shoulder made her realize that he’d literally fucked her onto the floor.
“Turn over,” Draco hissed before getting impatient and spinning her around.
She barely got to her hands and knees before he was in her again, surging forward and adjusting himself each time her body lunged forward. Moments later, she felt her head hit the wall but once again, no pain registered. She simply placed her hands on the wall and leaned her cheek against it, hoping they wouldn’t knock it down. The change in angle seemed to be just the thing as she felt her inner walls quiver with anticipation. The familiar tingling and tightening seized her before her body exploded. Pleasure unmatched rocketed through her body, the pulses so strong she couldn’t voice them.
Draco thrust a few more times before his entire body went rigid, feral growls followed by an earth shattering scream ripped through his lungs. He thrust weakly a few times before falling still, trembling against Hermione’s still quaking body. It seemed like it took ages for the pleasure to wane. Darkness seeped into her vision for the first time since she’d been turned. She collapsed into a heap in the floor before it took her over completely.
