Dumbledore stood up from his desk and began to pace about the room. Everything was falling apart and it was something he found to be unacceptable. He had to get Harry back under his control. He had to make sure that Sirius' brat stayed out of the wizarding world and now it looked like the two would get together no matter how much he had tried to keep them apart. He knew when it had started to fall apart too, last year when he tricked Harry into going to the Department of Mysteries by way of Kreacher. That was when it had all began. He had thought with the real prophecy destroyed, unheard, everything would go as he had planned. He should have just let Harry think that all traces of it were gone instead of showing him the memory. Of course, the boy had no idea that it was an edited memory. Thankfully, there was no one to question the accuracy of the memory he had shown to the boy since he was the only one who had heard it all. Trewlawny obviously didn't remember what she spouted and Snape had only heard the last line so that left him as the sole witness. To his knowledge there was only one way to find out the actual words to it and that was in a copy of Merlin's Codex which there were only three of in existence; one of which he owned. He had no idea where the other two were, still the chances of Harry finding one then reading the true prophecy, let alone the other prophecies he knew of that pertained to Harry and others, was extremely unlikely. No, the chances of that happening were so slim that Dumbledore was not worried about that happening. What actually had him worried was the thought that somehow the prophecies would come true. He knew of three so far with the other two that he had found in the Codex. He knew there could be more that he just hadn't deciphered, yet, so he would have to go through the book again to double check. Even if it was only the three, and those three came true, he knew everything would be in vain. He would lose his position, not only as Headmaster, but also as the Chief Wizard of the Wizengamot and Head Mugwump of the International Council of Wizards. He had worked far too hard and manipulated far too many people to gain those positions. He would not lose them now due to some brats who had won some genetic lottery.
If only...he hated that expression, yet at this point it was true. If only Bellatrix had not convinced him not to kill Sirius' child. She'd wanted Sirius to suffer by having the child disappear. She'd hated Sirius since they were children. Dumbledore had finally discovered that Sirius had pranked her at some point when they were younger and Bellatrix had never forgiven him for it. She could never let go of a grudge. He remembered how she was a viscous girl even as a first year. She'd stated she would hide him where Sirius would never find the boy. Dumbledore had never known where the boy was and had never wanted to know. Dumbledore sighed and stroked his beard as he thought. If only Tom had done as he was told and had killed Harry by non-magical means then this would all be moot. Instead, he'd used the killing curse, which never would have worked on Harry, so he had been left to take care of things. If only Tom had not gone against his orders. That man never did look at the big picture and see what had to be done for the greater good. He had to make sure that Harry was in no position to ever make those prophecies come true. The first step had been making sure that Sirius could not raise him nor could the man continue to look for his son. It had been easy enough to Imperio Barty Crouch so that Sirius was thrown in Azkaban without a trial. That part had gone easier than he'd thought it would. No, the hard part had been keeping the idea that Voldemort would return in place and going strong. He needed the people to believe until Harry was in school that Voldemort could return. He'd helped create Voldemort so that he had an antithesis for all he stood for. They needed the muggle borns added to their society, nonetheless too many were against it or were until a maniacal villain wanted them gone. There was more support than ever for the muggle borns and half-bloods. It had to continue; the wizarding world would crumble without the fresh blood added to it. He could care less if the non-purebloods were ever treated equally; they needed to be a part of the wizarding world so that inbreeding didn't occur.
Black's son popping up this way and now of all times did not help. He should have handled that little problem himself. Bellatrix had said she had the perfect way to make it so the baby would never be found. Well he had been found by Merlin's beard, Dumbledore thought and at the worst possible time too. If the two got together, they would change everything. That is if they know what they were and have to do to fulfill the requirements to release and control their magic. It was doubtful they knew and the chances of them finding their soul mates and bonding with them; well perhaps he was worrying too much. After all, he did not know of any families in England with dragon in their bloodlines and the prophecy did state that they would bond with the dragons. However, he did not like leaving things to chance.
Walking over to the table, he took a lemon drop and popped it into his mouth. He had to get control of Potter again. If he had control of him, it wouldn't matter what Black's child did. There were ways; he just had to determine how to go about it. He thought over those who he knew he could control and use to get Harry back and away from Malfoy. Molly, Ron and Ginny Weasley he could use, without the rest of the family since they were not privy to all that they were doing and it appeared as if Arthur was not going to allow the plans they had set in motion to bear fruit. Still, if he could get Harry to take a love potion and sleep with Ginny while she used a fertility potion then they could force Harry to marry the chit. That would ensure the one prophecy never happened. He was not sure if he could count on Granger. He'd had to figuratively twist her arm in the past to keep her working as his spy. For now, he would not form any plan that used her. That left him the rest of the order. Most, if he told his side of events first before Harry came back, he was sure would do as he needed. Yes, he would convince them that Harry was under a spell by Malfoy and Snape; that both were working for Voldemort and plan to take Harry to the Dark Lord. They would believe it since most of the order did not trust Snape to begin with. He would have to make sure that Lupin was not present at the meeting or the other Weaselys. It would not be hard to do at all. Since it could not be held at Grimmauld Place he would have to have it here at Hogwarts. He would have to come up with some excuse as to why it could not be held there besides Sirius banning The Order from using it. Walking over to the window, he thought about his plans. "Yes that would work best," He mused aloud. "I can make sure that evidence is placed in Severus' rooms for Moody to find to back up what I tell them. By the time the four of them get back to England everything will be set to capture Harry for his own good."
Fawkes hung his head in shame as he listened both to Dumbledore's thoughts and words. He was the wizard's familiar and thus connected to him, but hearing all this Fawkes was both saddened and ashamed that he was bonded to such a wizard. He had known in the past that Dumbledore had blurred the lines and that he was more gray than light, only he had never suspected he'd strayed so far. He had known what Dumbledore had been doing to Harry here at the school. It was why he had taken the Sorting Hat and gone to help him in the Chamber of Secrets. It was obvious to him from what the old man was thinking now that many things Dumbledore had done in the past he had not been privy to. If he had known he would never had stayed with him. He could no longer deny that his bonded had gone dark for his bonded was no longer bothering to even attempt to hide his thoughts. He watched as Dumbledore walk out of the office. Once he was alone Fawkes flew off his perch and out the window severing the bond between Dumbledore and himself. He let out a mournful cry before disappearing in flame searching for the one with whom he could bond with.
Dumbledore had made it down the steps from his office before he felt the breaking of the bond. Pain squeezed his heart as he fell to his knees. Gasping, he had difficulty in breathing as the pain radiated from his heart and spread across his chest. He managed to call out for help once before collapsing and losing consciousness. Minerva, who quickly got him up to the infirmary, found him there moments later. Madam Pomfrey and she both assumed he'd had a heart attack and treated him for such. Dumbledore was unconscious for several hours before awakening. He pretended to still be asleep as he heard Pomfrey's mutterings and realized that no one yet knew that the cause of the attack was Fawkes' leaving. He would come up with some excuse for the wretched bird being gone. There was no way he could allow anyone to know the truth. The only reason a phoenix would break a bonding was because a wizard had turned from the light. He knew that what he was doing was for the greater good, but some would not understand just as Fawkes had not. He was the defeater of Grindelwald, he was the one that found the twelve uses of dragon's blood, he had the order of Merlin and was a Grand Sorcerer thus he should be the one to lead the wizarding world and he would do so as he had done since becoming headmaster. Oh, he did not want to be Minister. He found it far better to leave the day to day stuff to other people; he just made sure that they did as he wanted and he would make sure that no matter what he would continue to guide the people and government in the way that was best for their own good.

Walking back into the room Giles was still cradling the book he'd received in his arms. He'd only set it down a few times since receiving it and he really didn't want to let go of it if he didn't have to. He'd only been able to go over a few pages of it before Xander and the others had arrived. "I was able to talk with Wesley. They are in the middle of tracking down a demon; however, he has assured me that they should be able to come tomorrow at some point. It all depends on when they finish."
Severus looked at his old friend as he came back into the room. Catching sight of the book Giles held his eyes grew large as he realized what it was. "Great Merlin," he muttered. "Is that what I think it is? How on earth did you come to have a copy of it Ripper?"
"Not easily that is for sure and no I did not sell my soul for it; although I admit I might have been tempted," Giles stated with a slight grin as he sat back down. "A half demon I know owed me several times over; canceling that debt along with a small fortune procured it for me. I only received it this morning and I haven't had a chance to go through it yet."
"I will bite. What is it?" Draco asked trying to get a good look at the book. He saw Harry's confused look as well, so at least he wasn't the only one in the dark on what was so fascinating about the book.
"It's a copy of Merlin's Codex," Giles told them. By their looks he could tell that they had no clue as to what it was. He easily slipped into his "lecture" mode, as the Scoobies would call it. "Merlin created the book to contain any and all true prophecies. It automatically updates when one is made. He originally made six of them; one was for himself of course, while four went to each of the founders of Hogwarts, and the last was given to Arthur Pendragon. Only three are known to have survived The Burning Times. One is rumored to be in England and the other in Russia. No one can say for sure if the other three were destroyed or not so you hear rumors of them popping up all over the world."
"What do you mean by a true prophecy?" Harry asked. Ever since he'd heard the prophecy about Voldemort and himself, he'd been curious on them. How accurate were such things and did they really define one's life? With how much Dumbledore had lied to him over the years he was even beginning to wonder if the prophecy was a lie as well. He would have to ask Severus if a memory in a pensieve could be false or not. If it could be than he wouldn't be able to trust even that information from Dumbledore. He was starting to feel as paranoid as Mad-Eye Moody where Dumbledore was concerned although was it really paranoia if they are out to get you he wondered?
"There are millions of prophecies made each and every day, yet most will never come true. Anyone can make a prophecy, however unless it is sent from one of the Gods or the Powers that Be they usually amount to nothing," Giles stated. "Then there are others that are so self-fulfilling they really aren't true prophecies because once they are heard they basically happen."
"Please don't tell me I came back in to listen to a lecture about prophecies?" Xander said more then asked as Spike and he came into the room via the back entrance that connected to the tunnels. "You know how I feel about those things Giles."
"Something a kin to that," Giles stated. He looked at Xander and noticed he appeared to be accepting the current situation. He knew he was having issues with what he had learned so he could only imagine what the other man was going through. It was a great deal to take in all at once. He wasn't at all that surprised to see Spike with Xander. He had noticed that the two had become closer since Buffy's death so could guess that Xander had gone to the vampire to vent. "All right there?"
Xander nodded, "Getting there. Spike this is Severus, Harry and Draco," He added indicating each person as he said their name.
"You are William Malfoy are you not?" Draco asked. He looked up at his ancestor and even though the hair was far more blonde, he could recognize him from the portrait located in the manor of him. He wondered why the man would go by such a common name like Spike instead of his given name. Spike was something you called a crup not a person.
"Aye, that would be me," Spike said. He leaned against the one bookshelf and took out his cigarettes lighting one. He ignored the look Giles gave him for having the cigarette in the room. He took one look at Draco and gave a slight smirk. He noticed the ring on his finger right off the bat. "So you're the newest Lord Malfoy. Look a bit young for the title."
"Just how old does one have to be?" Draco asked back to him with an answering smirk.
"Merlin it's like looking at an older Draco," Harry said looking between the two of them. "Isn't one bad enough?"
"I was thinking the same thing about Spike; that one is more than enough," Giles stated.
"Hey!" both Spike and Draco said at the same time causing the whole group to start chuckling.
"Oh yeah life should be interesting with these two around," Xander stated. He looked over at Severus and Harry. "So, why the interest in prophecies?"
"We were discussing them because I received a new book this morning; one that contains true prophecies. It is not from the Council," Giles told him having a feeling that would make a difference to him. "I fear the ones from them are compromised now that we know that they lied about so many other facts."
"That and I was curious because I have a prophecy that ties me with Voldemort," Harry said and noticed Giles flinched slightly at saying the dark wizard's name.
"Voldemort? Man that name sucks. His parents were really cruel," Xander stated. He saw right away that everyone else looked quite serious. "I take it this is not a good guy? He a big bad?" he asked while looking at Giles.
"Yes he is," Giles stated. "He's a very dark wizard who believes in blood purity and that wizards are better than normal humans..."
"Kind of a wizarding Hitler than?" Xander asked interrupting Giles as he explained who Voldemort was. From the sound of it already he was thinking that Harry would need help fighting this guy; prophecy or not.
"Yes in many ways that would be a good comparison," Giles said going on as if he hadn't been interrupted since he was used to Xander or any of the other Scoobies doing such things while he explained a situation. "He rose to power many years ago and like Hitler he was a very charismatic leader. He surrounded himself with numerous supporters, which he called Death Eaters. It ended up being a full war in the wizarding world. Most won't even speak his name but call him "He who must not be named". Voldemort and the Death Eaters killed anyone who stood in their way until he was stopped one night almost fifteen years ago. He went to kill a family on Halloween night. He killed the parents using a killing curse. He then went after their son who was just an infant at the time. No one knows exactly what happened that night; for that matter I doubt we ever will. You see Xander, the baby lived and he was defeated," he explained and looked directly at Harry.
"That's why Mr. Giles knew of me," Harry said as he indicated his scar. "The night he killed my parents, I survived somehow, however I still received this scar. Everyone seems to know me by it," he added with a bitter voice. He hated how everyone seemed to think that because they knew his story they knew him. He hated how they stared at him and whispered about him as well. He didn't want the fame of the being the boy-who-lived. "I've faced him a few times since then in different forms; once when I was eleven and once when I was twelve. Two years ago he came back fully with a new body made from my blood. Then last year while the ministry was denying he was back, he was building up his supporters once again. Bellatrix, by the way, is one of his followers. Last spring they went after a prophecy at the ministry about Voldemort and me. He tricked me into going there and a battle ensued; during it the prophecy was smashed so no one ever heard it. It was at that battle that Bellatrix killed Sirius."
Hearing this Xander knew more than ever that he had to help. This Voldemort dude was bad news. Going after a baby was just wrong in his book, let alone going after a kid. This jerk needed to learn to pick on people his own size. Then to find out that because of Voldemort his father had been killed just added fuel to the fire. He turned to look at Severus. "You said you can get rid of that block on my magic right? Will it take long?"
"No it will not take long," Severus replied. "It should only take a few minutes, that being said, I should warn you that it will be extremely painful for you during the time it's broken and you might need to rest afterwards. Once done, you will be able to access your magic, but not all of it. You have two blocks upon you. One is the one done by Bellatrix Lestrange while the other is a natural block that will only be released when you find your soul-mate and bond with them."
"And when he says extremely he is sugar coating it," Harry stated. "I had one on me as well, although it didn't completely block my magic. Actually, I still have one that is similar to yours in that I have to find my soul mate. I don't know a great deal on that type of block however Mr. Giles has a friend he believes may be able to give us more information on it."
"Wesley," Giles supplied before Xander could ask. "The information I have on such situations is limited and dealt only with creature inheritances."
"I know I'm going to regret asking this; what are creature inheritances?" Xander asked with a bit of hesitation in his voice as if he dreaded the answer.
"It is where a wizard or witch has had relations with a magical creature and their descendants inherit some of the creature's powers or features. Many of the wizarding families have some form of creature within their bloodlines," Severus explained. "Veela, Fae, Elvin, and vampire are just some examples."
"I knew it. I shouldn't have asked," Xander stated with a shake of his head. "Wait? Vampire? But I thought they were sterile," he stated while giving Spike a pointed look.
"Oy that's personal ya know," Spike grumbled. "We aren't sterile, but we aren't the most productive being in the world. We'd have to be with someone who was extremely fertile in order to get them pregnant."
Xander just shook his head and decided he really didn't want to know anymore on that at this time. He would find out once they talked with Wesley. "So let me make sure I have this straight. You can remove one of the blocks, it's going to hurt like hell, however afterwards I can learn to do magic; is that correct?"
"Yes, however prior to doing any magic you will need to get a wand," Severus added. "There are some wizards who can do wandless magic, which is a very rare ability, especially at the beginning. The wand is used to help you focus your magic," he explained.
"Okay, do we have any wands here Giles?" Xander asked. He hadn't seen any, but that didn't mean much really considering all the stuff at the Magic Box. For all he knew they had a box of them that they used for decorations since they used the one type of orb for a paperweight.
"No we do not have any wands here except for the one I have. They have to be specially made by a wand maker," Giles told him. "There isn't one here in Sunnydale. I'm not exactly sure where the closest wand shoppe would be to here."
"Oh, okay, I guess that makes sense," Xander stated. "So there has to be someplace in California I can get one right?" He figured there had to be a place somewhere around the area after all there had to be wizards in California and not just in England.
"Closest wizarding community is in LA," Spike stated. "You can get a wand there; might get a wand myself actually. I take it you plan to go back to England and if you do you'll need someone to watch your back until you've mastered the spell work. Might be a tad rusty mind you, although, I'm sure it will all come back to me."
"So we need to go to LA," Xander said as he tried to figure out how to do that one. It wasn't like he had a car that would make the trip. Oh he did have one, kind of, if you wanted to call it that. It got him from point A to point B and hopefully back home again. For most things in town, he just walked it and didn't bother to drive. He felt a warm spot in his chest over Spike's offer to go with him to England. He was looking forward to going yet at the same time he'd been a bit worried about not knowing anyone there. He liked the thought of having his friend with him.
"It does seem wise to go there," Giles stated. "Let me call Wesley back. We shall need to go to them instead." Ever since hearing what Severus had said about the Council he had been thinking about what to do about them. Hearing the others talking about going to England he knew he had to go there as well. He had to face them and make sure this insanity stopped one way or another.
"G-man you are going with us? What about Faith and the hellmouth?," Xander asked of him. He hadn't thought Giles would leave Sunnydale at all for any reason. He had to wonder why he was and whether he was going with them to England or not.
"Do not call me that horrid name," Giles said giving Xander a glare which only made the other man grin even more. Giles would never admit it, but he was touched that Xander would give him a nickname. It showed how much the young man cared. "Faith can handle the hellmouth, since as you know things have been tapering off lately. I also plan to discuss with her what we learned today and perhaps she won't be as busy as she had been. She might even decide to go with us or go back to Los Angeles. No, I need to go to England and face the Council. What has been allowed to continue for centuries must come to an end," he stated with slight edge to his voice.
"Okay then," Xander said with a slight nod knowing from that tone that the Council wouldn't know what hit them. He doubted they had ever seen Giles in full Ripper mode. Hell, he had never seen him in full Ripper mode, only partially, and it was enough to make him know he never wanted to make the man mad at him, so he could well imagine what he would be like when fully riled. "Well then how are we going to get to LA? My car won't make it and Giles your car isn't big enough for all of us."
"I shall create a portkey that will take us to the Hyperion Hotel. Before you ask Xander, a portkey is a magical object that transports a single person or a whole group from one location to another," Giles told him and then explained to the others why they were going to that location. "Angel lives at the Hyperion while also running his business out of the building. It's not used as a hotel any longer."
"Cool deal! Kind of like a ‘Wormhole X-treme!’. When do we leave?" Xander asked with some excitement in his voice. He knew the sooner they left the sooner he could learn magic, thus sooner he could find Bellatrix and this Voldemort to make sure they never harmed another soul again.
"I shall call Wesley and make sure that it is not a problem for us to go there," Giles told him. "If it is agreeable with them, we should be able to leave within a few hours. We shall need to pack of course and I do need to talk with Faith about what we have learned as well as Anya about running the business while I am away. Since we shall be gone for an undetermined length of time we will need to pack a fair amount to take with us perhaps Lord Potter, Lord Malfoy and Severus can aid each of us with shrinking our luggage to make it more manageable?" he asked as he looked over at them.
Severus nodded, "That does seems logical. We should each go with one of you to make the most of our time. Harry you should go with Alexander and Draco you should go with your ancestor here. I shall go with you Ripper. I admit I am a bit curious about meeting your slayer." He was also curious to see how she reacted to the information Giles was going to tell her.
"While you call Wesley I should probably talk with Anya," Xander said with a sigh. This was not a conversation he was looking forward too; still he knew it was one that had to be done. Whether he liked it or not, he couldn't just leave without facing her. He stood up and ran his hand through his hair. He had a look on his face of a man about to walk into a lion's den.
"Don't fret Xander," Giles told him. "If nothing else you can remind her that since you are leaving she will be getting the whole of the apartment and with having to take on more responsibilities here she shall receive more of the profits. That should ease some of her anger," he said only half-jesting. He liked Anya in many ways; nonetheless, he had never thought she was right for Xander. The woman loved money far too much where Xander cared more about people; it was the one big difference that he thought would always come between them. "We shall return," he told the others before leading the way towards the other room.
