Kindred Passion
CHAPTER 13:
Slipping from the bed, Muirinn found her robe, and went downstairs. Fixing a cup of cocoa, she stirred up the fire and curled up in front of it. Seanna had just handed her a hell of a problem. "Sibeal!' "Ok, Mairead, what do YOU w' "You sound as if you've had a rough night.' "I didn't"until Seanna called. I take it that's the reason you're knocking as well.' "We're calling a meeting at noon tomorrow. How do you feel about teaching about the embrace?' "It depends on the students. Who are you thinking of including?' "Actually, we thought we'd start with the Weasleys and Harry, then whoever Albus, Minerva and you feel would be able to handle it.' "That sounds reasonable. I agree to back you up. Now can I get some more sleep? Otherwise I'll be snoozing through that meeting.' "Ok, Sibeal, good night.'
Finishing her cocoa, Muirinn went back to the bedroom. Crawling in next to Sirius was a sheer pleasure. "Where were you, Sibeal?" Sirius' sleepy voice caught her attention. "Sorry dear, I had a conversation with Seanna, and then with Mairead. I swear, don't any of them sleep at night?" He turned and gathered her in his arms, "Is that what you want to do, go back to sleep?" She snuggled closer, laying her head against his heart, "I think we'd better. We've got a meeting at noon." "We what?" "Yeah, I'll tell you about it over breakfast, right now I want to sleep in my lover's arms." He kissed her hair, "Be my guest, sweetheart. I enjoy holding you after all these years." "And Sirius," "Yes, my love?" "We've just got to feed you up. You're too thin." Sirius chuckled, "Goodnight, Sibeal." "Goodnight, Sirius."
Over breakfast the next morning, Muirinn and Sirius discussed what was going on at Hogwarts. "So Achak has fallen for a redhead, eh?" Sirius laughed, "I know just how he feels. They're totally unpredictable." "The thing is, are we right to teach these kids about the embrace?" Sirius thought, "Harry's on the list, right?" Muirinn nodded, "Yes, Seanna felt he was one who would really need to know if anything happens to Ginny." "I think that teaching him is a good idea. You've only been with him a short time, Sibeal, but I've feared losing him to death many times in the last few years. If the kids are chosen with care, there shouldn't be a problem with it." She smiled at him, "Thanks. I was afraid you wouldn't like the idea of him learning about the choice." Sirius took her hand, "In many ways he's as much yours as mine, Sibeal. If you think it's a good idea too, I don't see any difficulty." After cleaning up they apparated to just outside Seanna's door. Knocking, they were greeted by Achak. Sibeal smiled, "Hey big man, how are you doing today? Other than the vision, that is." Achak smiled wearily, "Tired, I seemed unable to sleep, regardless of Seanna's efforts. Everyone else will be here soon." Seanna came out of the bedroom, "Muirinn, Sirius, thanks for interrupting your holiday." Sirius kissed her cheek just as Tariq entered the room, "It's alright, Seanna. We'll forgive you." While they were talking, Achak noticed Tariq glaring at Sirius. He thought, "I wonder what's bothering him?' but let it go.
Later that morning, everyone met in Seanna's flat. The group consisting of Albus Dumbledore, Mairead, Miles, Achak, and Remus Lupin, along with a strange young man Seanna had never seen before, joined Seanna, Tariq, Muirinn and Sirius. Smiling at the newcomer, Seanna said quietly, "Tariq, who is the new person? We've never been introduced." He eyed her warily, and motioned the man over. "Seanna, this is my Clan Brother, Karim. Karim, this is my Lady, Seanna. Like Sibeal, she carries the blood of Airmed's line."
Karim took her hand as she reached out, "Hello, Seanna." She felt a chill she got from no other Vampyre. "Karim, may I ask you a question?" He replied, "As you wish." Looking at Tariq, she said, "I have become friends with all of the other Vampyres here. They can be caring and compassionate, yet all I feel from you is cold. I would like you to consider me a friend." He looked away, "Vampyres do not have friends." Seanna grinned, "You know, I just love a challenge. So, friend Karim, what are you willing to lose if I prove you wrong?" He was astonished. This human woman was actually daring him. "I have nothing to lose." She chuckled, "We'll just see about that!"
Looking at her dear friend, Seanna called out, "Hey Achak, did you hunt?" He responded, "No, dear child, I haven't" "Ok." Rising to her feet, Seanna left the room. Returning a few moments later with two mugs, she handed one to the Nosferatu. Giving her a kiss on the cheek, he said, "Thank you, dear one." She smiled up at him, "You're very welcome, Achak." Walking over to where Karim was seated, Seanna spoke formally, "Karim of Clan Seif al Nu'man, I bid you welcome to my home, and ask, "Will you partake of this cup I offer?'" Karim spoke just as formally, "I thank thee, Lady for thy welcome, but cannot drink of thy cup as I have no head for wine."
Miles smiled, "Take the cup, Karim, she means you no harm." Everyone watched as he lifted the cup to his lips. His expression changed to one of shock. With a smile on her face, Seanna leaned down and kissed him on the mouth, tasting of the blood in his cup. "A welcome kiss for the brother-in-blood of my love." Staring at her for a long moment, he turned to Tariq, "You have truly found a unique woman. How did you find her?" Tariq grinned, "I tried to kill her." Karim's eyebrows raised, "It must be a most interesting story for an evening, but I must make recompense. Fair Lady," he said to Seanna, "What doth I owe thee for my doubts? I am sure it must be a sizeable debt."
Seanna replied, "Thy brother's debt to me was repaid in blood." Karim looked startled. She grinned, "Mine!" Tariq chuckled, "Woman, quit scaring him." Looking into Karim's eyes, Seanna spoke soberly, "Karim of Clan Seif al Nu'man, in recompense for that which thou owest, I will accept nothing less than thy open and honest friendship." Returning her gaze, he took her hand, "Lady, truly, you have taught me much this day. I offer you my open and honest friendship, with this token," and he gently kissed her. Miles spoke, "Seanna, I would really like to know how you manage to affect so many people?" "Miles, I do it by showing them my true self."
Mairead began, "We're here to discuss something that happened last night. Achak, I know it's hard, but would you please tell the others about your vision." The Nosferatu looked down, speaking softly, "I saw a battle. It must have been late afternoon. There was blood and bodies everywhere. A young man reaches out and stabs a girl through the heart." He looked up, "Almost all of us are there, with Harry's young friends. They are weeping for the death of this girl." He took a deep breath, "I met this girl yesterday afternoon. She is a gentle and loving child."
Seanna continued, "I had two sessions of dreams last night, each with a different ending. In the one like Achak's there is an exception. She does not die. The girl is embraced into the clans. In the second dream, she is older and has come to face the man she loves. She is very much alive." Seanna fell silent as the group discussed the dreams. Karim was watching her, and after some time, drew the group's attention back to her. Tariq asked, "Is it the pain?" Mairead shook her head, "Look at her eyes, she's in trance." Seanna's eyes were soft and unfocused. "We need to let her come out of it on her own." Karim asked, "Has she ever done this before?" Achak chuckled, "No. But we are all learning what her powers are at the same time she does. So far, we've found Airmed's powers, mindtouch, pain blocking, and now, prescient dreams and trancing. All of it in less than four weeks."
Muirinn said, "Karim, at the rate she is developing, Seanna is going to be the most powerful of Airmed's Children." She smiled, "Fortunately, all that power is balanced by an extraordinary compassion and love. Otherwise there would be a possibility of her becoming something like the late and unlamented Damien of the Tremere." As they watched, Seanna's eyes began to focus, shaking her head as if to clear it. "It was a confirmation. There are two distinct futures, but I couldn't get anything on what changes one into the other." She paused, "I did get this, though. Somewhere in her ancestry, there is Kindred blood." Miles's jaw dropped, "Kindred blood? From where?" "Sorry Miles, I didn't get that, but perhaps it will help us to save her. Albus, will you let me go fishing in your memories. Maybe the answer lies in what you can tell me."
Retreating to the chairs near the window, Albus sank into a joined trance with Seanna, Tariq watching over them both. After about 10 minutes, they showed signs of awareness. Albus said, "I can't believe that information ever reached my conscious mind." As they rejoined the group Seanna said, "Remember telling me that it has been about 200 years since the last child was born to Vampyre-human parents?" Mairead nodded, "I do." Well, that child was one of Arthur Weasley's ancestors." Sirius gasped, "You mean that the MOM has been infiltrated all this time. That's a hell of a joke." Seanna nodded, "I doubt that he even knows about it. And the reason it shows up in your records, Miles, is that the father was from Clan Fianna."
"That's not all I got. Somewhere Albus retained the memory that prior to that particular child, there was another pregnancy. It was somewhere around 350 years ago. This time the father was from Clan Ventrue." Seanna looked at them. "Ginny, Ron, Fred and George Weasley all carry blood from at least two of the primary Kindred clans." Muirinn spoke, "According to Rionach, the blending of the Clans will create a being with the power to control all the Clans. Seanna any idea if there is more than just the two?" Seanna shook her head. "I think we're going to have to see Mr. Weasley about that. It might be in his eidetic memory."
Allowing the rest to discuss the problem, Seanna went to gaze out the window, staring out as the conversation swirled around her. "My Lady," a soft voice spoke behind her, and Karim stepped into her line of sight. "What aren't you telling them? I can sense that you're withholding from them." Looking very serious, Seanna asked, "May we talk about this later"in private?" "As you wish, My Lady, but do not think procrastination will cause me to forget. It won't!" Smiling slightly, Seanna replied, "I'llmembmember that! Now, perhaps we should return to the group?" Offering her his arm, Karim escorted Seanna back to her seat.
"By the way Karim, I am truly enjoying your courtly manners. They would make any woman feel like a Queen." Blushing slightly, he bowed and said, "My father's mother insisted that good manners were infinitely more important than good breeding. I have always tried to live by her words." "True respect for the elders, another mark of a gentleman." Miles spoke up, "Would you two knock it off?" Seanna sighed dramatically, "Alas, good Karim, not all are taught such excellent manners." Mairead chuckled, "She's got you there, Miles. With these two around, I don't think I would fence with any less than the best"words AND manners. In the "courtly graces' game, you'd lose, my dear." Achak spoke, "Why don't we set aside this discussion until we know more? Tariq, are we going to talk to the Loup-garou?" "Yes, Achak."
As everyone left, they never noticed that Karim stayed behind. Finally, after the door closed, he glanced at Seanna, "Alright Lady, we're alone, and "courtly manners' bedamned, I want to know what you're hiding!" Rising, Seanna went back to the window. Looking out over the grounds, she said, "Karim I must ask you to keep this to yourself." Looking down, she revealed, "There is a way to save her, but it will take a great deal of power." "So what is it you don't want them to know," Karim asked? Glancing up into his eyes, she replied, "At this time, the only place that power can come from is Harry and myself. So much power, we may die from it." Karim knelt in front of her, taking her hands, "Lady, I would not countenance thy death. There must be a way to combine other's powers with yours. I plead with thee to find a way, lest greater harm befall us all." Standing he touched her cheek, "Seanna, please don't do anything rash. Allow all of us to help the best way we can. To lose you would leave a hole in a great many lives." "Thank you, Karim. Sometimes it's easy to forget that this involves people other than myself. I'm so used to being alone."
The door opened, and Tariq walked in. Seeing Karim standing near Seanna, he snarled, "What are you still doing here? Get out! And stay away from my woman." Seanna was shocked, "Tariq, what are you doing? I simply speak to someone and you go crazy? What is wrong with you?" Karim spoke quietly, "I have done nothing except speak to her." Tariq continued, "I don't care. Get out!" With a bow to Seanna, Karim left the flat. Still raging, Tariq yelled, "What are you doing entertaining other men while I'm gone?" Grabbing Seanna, he dragged her into the bedroom, tore off her clothes and forced himself on her. When he had finished, he said, "There! I guess you'll keep yourself for me now!" and walked away.
With tears streaming down her cheeks, Seanna slowly got up and went to wash. After dressing, she locked the bedroom door. Using a trick she had learned from watching Albus, Seanna apparated away from Hogwarts.
Later that afternoon, Harry went looking for Seanna. Not finding her in the flat, he went to see Sirius. "I get the feeling something is wrong. Seanna's not at home." Padfoot smiled, "Maybe she just went for a walk." Harry shook his head, "No, I feel something really bad." Sirius thought for a moment, "Ok, Harry, why don't we check the map?" Pulling it out, Harry touched it with his wand, saying the words, "I solemnly swear I am up to no good.' As the map revealed itself, they looked but could not find Seanna anywhere the map covered. "Harry, you're right. Use your mindlink and get everyone together." 10 minutes later, the entire group had assembled in Seanna's flat. On edge, Sirius noticed that for two members of the same clan, Karim was staying far away from Tariq.
