Chapter 13: Poor Severus
“Why is that my Lord?” Severus seethed.
“I have it on very good authority that Hermione is in love and plans to run away and elope.” The King smiled. “Normally I would stop them, but he is a knight and the whole thing has a romantic flare to it. Besides, I want her to be happy and this frees you from your obligation.”
Severus turned and stormed down the hall to Hermione’s room. He missed his teacher’s robes as it was kind of hard to storm about and be intimidating in tights. He rounded a corner in time to see a young knight whispering something in Hermione’s ear and her chuckling.
“I’ll see you tonight, Thomas,” Hermione purred and watched him walk off in the opposite direction from Severus. She kept the sugary sweet smile on her face and turned to walk toward Severus, pretending not to even see him until she ran right into his scowling form. “Oh, Severus, I didn’t see you there.”
“That much is obvious,” he snarled, glaring down at her. “It seems you have made a new friend.”
“Yes I have.” Hermione smiled sweetly before letting her eyes glaze over and get a faraway look. “He is so sweet and kind and thoughtful.”
“Gag me. I thought you more intelligent then this, Hermione,” Severus snarled.
“You should be happy, Severus. Now you won’t have to marry me and we’ll get out of this book,” Hermione purred.
“You’re going to marry a fictional character that you don’t even know!” He couldn’t believe what she was saying.
“Yes.” She walked away from him and a real smile spread across her face. “I’ll see you back in the real world, Professor Snape,” she called back to him as she turned the corner. What he didn’t see was her hiking up her skirt as soon as she was out of sight and running away, trying not to laugh the entire way.

About two hours later Severus found Melody and the seamstress from town working on a gown in one of the spare rooms. The gown was a beautiful light mint, almost white colour and they were working sliver beads around the neckline in an intricate pattern. A silvery veil attached to a silver comb hung on the wall, waiting for it’s turn in the lime light.
“Never have I had to put a wedding dress together in one day,” the seamstress complained as she threaded more beads on her needle.
“You will be able to?” Melody pleaded.
“Yes, I will be able to. When he sees her in this, he will see a piece of heaven if I have a say in it,” the seamstress said. “So much to be done in such a short time. The roses still need to be attached to the comb and the lace to the sleeves. If he doesn’t love her, he is a fool.”
“Oh, he loves her.” Melody laughed. At this point Severus had enough of listening in and cleared his throat, making both woman jump.
“You could have ruined the dress!” the seamstress shouted.
“That would be such a tragedy.” Severus snarled, causing the seamstress to glare at him.
“Did you need something, Lord Severus?” Melody asked.
“Yes.” He motioned for her to follow him. Once they were a little ways down the hall Severus turned on her. “What do you know of this Thomas boy?”
“Oh, Thomas is a sweet boy,” Melody answered, smiling. “He is kind and caring and will treat Hermione like no man could.” Melody watched the anger turn in Severus eyes like a violent storm rolling in but she held her ground.
“Everyone seams to think this is a good choice.” It almost sounded like it was painful for him to say. “Does she love him?”
“She is marrying the man she loves tonight and no one is going to stop her,” Melody told him, causing him to turn and stomp away. When he was gone she turned to see the seamstress standing in the doorway listening. They looked at each other and both burst out laughing.
“So do you think that will deter him?” the seamstress asked, gasping for air.
“I don’t know, but maybe he will learn something from this.” They both went back to work.

Everywhere Severus went, he ran into someone preparing for the wedding. It seemed with the King’s blessing it was no longer an elopement but a huge production being thrown together in one day. When he had gone down to the kitchens to get something to eat and to escape the commotion at lunch time, he was confronted with a busy kitchen preparing for the wedding.
That was why Severus was sitting in his room with several bottles of whisky lined up to drink. He had procured them from the King’s personal stores and was planning to drink all of them tonight. Not like he was going to get punished for stealing them come morning. They would be out of this wretched book that had destroyed his life.
He took a swig and groaned as it burned its way down. This stuff was harsher then what he was used to drinking but it would do for his purpose. He planned to get pissed and miss Hermione’s wedding. He took another swig and settled down for a long afternoon.

Hermione stood still as four women circled her. The seamstress made an adjustment here and there before pronouncing the dress done. She slipped it off so it could be put up for tonight.
“I’m glad you saw fit to let your family in on this,” the Queen said with a frown, though her eyes held laughter.
“I had to let everyone in. This was getting out of hand,” Hermione complained as she slipped back into the dress she had been wearing before the fitting. “Everyone does know to pretend it is Thomas I am marring if they see Severus, right?”
“Severus has not been seen in over an hour,” the Queen reassured her. “They know, but why are we not telling him again?”
“Because instead of getting down on one knee and confessing his love for her, he went behind her back and convinced Father that he was the right choice for an arranged marriage,” Megan answered for her.
“He needs to understand that he can not make decisions for me. The best way to teach him this is to let him feel what it feels like to have no say in something important,” Hermione added, sitting down for tea and to relax for a few minutes.
“What if he turns and leaves when he realizes what you have done?” the Queen asked.
“That is the reason Thomas is her supposed fiancé.” Melody offered. “My brother will keep him there.”
“Mother, you remember Thomas, the knight? Father introduced you to him shortly after your wedding,” Megan informed her.
“You mean that wall on legs?” Comprehension dawned on her. “But I though he had already seen you with Thomas.”
“He saw me with Jeremy. The knight on the first watch. He agreed to pretend to be Thomas for that one incident because Melody asked him to.” Hermione grinned at Melody’s blush.
“So, besides letting us use his name, what is Thomas doing?” the Queen asked.
“He is going to insist Severus attend the wedding and keep him from running.” Hermione let a wicked smile come to her face.
“Poor Severus,” Megan sighed.
