Disclaimer: I’m not making any money off of this. I don’t own Harry Potter. Wish I did. Then we’d see a little more HPSS action. Oh yeah...
Note: This is an AU fic. And I don’t care what happened in HBP. I started writing it before, and even though a lot happened in that book this fic isn’t changing. You no like it? Don’t read. Also, this is a yaoi fic which means it has guy on guy action. You no like? You no read! It’s really that simple. It’s also a vampire fic because I have this obsession with vampires. Again, you no like? You no read it! Anything else? It’s a big AU. There’s no way (even if for some reason Harry and Sev did get together in the real books) that they would be vampires and that they’d act the way they do here. Sorry for killing their characters but I have warned you... -dpa06-
As the initial shock of Harry’s turning, return, and relationship grew on people, Severus and Harry began to change slightly. They were subtle changes that only a few really noticed. Severus went back to his original teaching methods, but there were changes to this as well. Severus was still a git, still snarky, but he was an all-around git; an equal opportunist in his hatred and bigotry. No more favouring the Slytherins, and no more snapping at the Gryffindors for simply existing. Everyone knew that Harry was behind these changes, but no one was stupid enough to voice their findings.
Dumbledore decided it was time to let the world know that Voldemort was dead. He held a press conference in which he told the world the reason Harry had been absent from Hogwarts for so long. He went on a mission, or so the report said, to watch Voldemort and find a perfect time to attack. And once that time was found, he was to act on it. He did. He was successful. Voldemort was dead. Severus stood by because he would not let Harry out of his sight and also because his left forearm was to be used as evidence that the Dark Lord was really gone.
Celebrations worldwide were thrown from the time on for many days. Students wanted to cut ties with their education and party now that they were truly free. However, the teachers wouldn’t allow it. Julia Grapheme was asked to stay on as Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Harry refused to answer any questions about his relationship with Severus, how he killed Voldemort, or about his being a vampire. He made it perfectly clear that who and what he was now was his business, and his business alone. Slowly, things started to return to a semi-normal state.
As the weeks wore on and the semester grew to a close for summer holidays, Harry began to change. It was the subtle things that few noticed until it was pointed out by someone who knew him better. Severus, being his lover and sire, noticed them immediately. It started with the quiet withdrawal. Harry would do that occasionally: go off on his own to think or just be by himself, but never so far that Sev couldn’t sense him. The first time this had happened, Severus left class to search for his childe in fear that he had disappeared again. Lately, however, Harry would go as far as Hogsmeade without telling anyone. He didn’t have any teaching duties since he’d been replaced after he’d disappeared so he didn’t have to worry about classes. One time he even spent the night at Hermione’s and Ron’s. The only reason he stayed there all night was because Hermione fire called Severus to let him know that Harry was there.
Actually, it was Ron that called to accuse Severus of doing something to Harry. But Hermione took over and got all the facts in a calm manner that kept her husband from dying at Severus’ hands. When Harry went back to Hogwarts, he acted like nothing had happened. Severus berated him, telling him that his safety was still a priority. Harry simply let the words roll right in one ear and out the other. He seemed to be easily amused and distracted. Or, at least, more so than usual. When working on one thing, he would suddenly begin working on another. It frustrated Severus to no end at times. And he became clingy. When they would join together at night, Harry would need to be coddled and assured many times over that he was loved and cared for and needed for more than just killing a madman.
Then he started feeding again. Every day, two and three times. When he was questioned by his sire, he shrugged his shoulders and said he ‘just had a craving’. This worried Severus. He’d never heard of a childe whose cravings came back once they were almost gone. But when he demanded Harry go see Poppy, the medi-witch could find nothing wrong with the young man. They went several times a week, but nothing was wrong with Harry. At least Severus had his blood supply back again. He was worried about his childe. Things had been so hectic and painful lately that he put it off to stress. At first. Things began to get too weird after a little while longer.
Harry sometimes wouldn’t eat, or he’d eat something just a little off: french fries and mayonnaise; strawberries and melted cheese; steak with bits of ham on top; milk with caramel syrup. He would get so excited about something, and then be almost in tears about something completely different. It made no sense, not to Harry, not to Severus, not even to Poppy. The young vampire had everyone bending over backwards to try and please him while trying to find out what was wrong with him at the same time.
The final straw came toward the end of summer holidays. Severus had woken to an empty bed, which startled him because Harry shouldn’t have been able to wake up, much less walk, after the night they’d had. He reached his senses out for his childe and quickly heard noises coming from the bathroom. He made his way to said room and saw his love ‘worshiping the porcelain god’ as he’d heard a muggle say once. He grabbed a wet washcloth and handed it to the young vampire when he sat back up. Harry graciously accepted it.
“Are you okay, Harry?”
“Yeah I just... I dunno. About twenty minutes ago I woke up with these horrible stomach cramps. I only had a few seconds before I was in the bathroom, hovering over the toilet. I don’t think I’m sick. I feel almost fine now.”
“Yeah, well, I’m not taking any chances. We’re staying in bed today.”
“Promise?” Harry asked with a mischievous grin and a sparkle in his eyes.
“To rest. How can you even walk after last night? You begged me to stop for fear of permanent paralyzation,” he joked.
“I dunno. Guess when you have to, you’ll get up and move anywhere. Can you carry me back to bed? I’m drained.”
“Spoiled brat,” Severus muttered as he moved to pick the younger man up.
“Love you too, Sev,” Harry said, wrapping his arms around Severus’ neck for support as he was taken to bed.
The same thing happened the next morning, with the exception of returning to bed. After Harry had washed his face off with the cold cloth Sev had given him, he launched himself at his sire and bit deeply into his neck. It was almost as if Harry were a new fledgling again, just learning everything there was about being a vampire. Severus stumbled and fell into the doorway between the bathroom and their bedroom, taking Harry with him. He didn’t have barely a second before his childe growled and attacked him. The bite was painful because Harry didn’t bring the blood to the surface. But the fact that Harry wouldn’t stop is what hurt the most. Severus moved his own head slightly and bit into Harry’s neck, right on the pulse point. But not even that could get Harry to stop. Harry simply growled and continued to gulp the blood Severus had always freely given him.
Harry was going to kill him if he didn’t do something. Severus found his wand inside a robe pocket and summoned blood packets from the kitchen. He fed on them as Harry fed on him to keep from blacking out. Suddenly, Harry reared back with a growl/moan, tearing the flesh at Severus neck. He whirled away from his sire and retched into the toilet again. Severus continued to feed, but sat up slowly to keep an eye on Harry. Something was wrong, something was terribly wrong. He knew that for a fact now. Everything up until this point could have been stress relieving itself or... or something else. But this? No, this was unmistakable. Now the only question was, what was wrong with Harry?
Severus snapped out of his thoughts just in time to catch Harry as he fainted and fell back into his arms. The older took the younger back to bed and called a healer at St. Mungo’s who specialized in different species’ healing. The man, Kevin Whitling, came immediately at Severus’ urgent tone. He’d treated the Potions Master several times before and knew that he didn’t mix words or fret over nothing. He healed the cut at Severus’ neck first, knowing that he could cease to exist if he didn’t. A general scan over Harry saw that this wasn’t anything ordinary; all bones and organs were fine; brain scan came back negative; no minor sicknesses. Now he was getting worried. If this were something minor he could treat it and pacify the older of the pair before him. But this seemed to be something serious.
“It’s nothing minor, Severus,” Kevin said, starting to set up for deeper scans. “My scans are all coming back negative for broken bones, the flu, and the like. I’m going to go deeper and see what’s going on here. Give me a few minutes of silence, okay?” Severus nodded silently and sat beside his childe, holding his hand. He trusted Kevin because he didn’t try to placate anyone with words of hope when there were none to give. He knew this was crucial and therefore told Severus so. Kevin worked in silence for near twenty minutes before stopping and looking at Severus. “I’m still not finding anything,” he said with a shake of his head and a sigh.
“Well, damn it, something’s wrong with him!” Severus growled as he jumped off the bed, smoothing his robes with shaking hands. It was something he did when he was nervous, although he’d never admit it.
“What are his symptoms? Maybe that will help me determine what it could be.”
“He’s reclusive, forgetful, eating weird things, his cravings are back and it’s been two years. He acts like nothing happens when he does something off the wall, but if I say something and he interprets it wrong he gets all upset and says he’s going to leave me or that I don’t want him anymore or something. His eating habits are... bizarre isn’t even a strong enough word. He’s wanting to go longer and farther than his body will let him in flying on his broom, in magic, in the bedroom. It’s like he’s another person completely. And did I mention the food? He was sick yesterday morning, but not flu sick. He did the same thing this morning, and then attacked me so I had to summon my blood packets before he killed me. And the food he eats...”
Kevin thought for a few minutes. “Morning sickness, moodiness, eating habits have changed. Sounds like he’s pregnant, mate,” Kevin concluded, turning back to the motionless man on the bed. He cast a simple spell he hadn’t thought of earlier and, sure enough, the results came back positive. “He is, he’s pregnant.”
Severus stood rooted to his spot on the floor for a moment. “But... we’re vampires. Vampires don’t get pregnant Kevin.”
“Not true,” Kevin said with a shake of his head. “And you’re also both wizards. Very powerful wizards. And he’s Harry Potter. Since when has anything normal happened to him? He killed one of the most powerful wizards ever for Merlin’s sake.” Severus scoffed, but kept his mouth shut. “Look, I won’t say anything about this to anyone, but I’d rather I dealt with it. Here. If anyone at Mungo’s got word of this...” Kevin trailed off. The looked passed between the two said it all.
He was right, it was weird for a vampire, nevermind if they were male or female, to get pregnant. But he was also right in the fact that Harry wasn’t normal. “Wonder how he’ll take this,” Severus muttered as he sat down next to his lover once more. “Thank-you Kevin, for keeping this quiet. Would you like me to take him to Poppy for normal check-ups and the like?” he asked without looking away from Harry’s sleeping face. Kevin began to pack what few things he’d brought with him back into his bag.
“No. Poppy doesn’t know how to take care of this. He’s a man for one, and even if they taught that in her training classes, he’s also a vampire. Things are completely different now. There have been a few cases over the last few hundred centuries about this sort of thing so I’ll get all the information I can for you to read up on. I have to go before someone starts looking for me and questioning me. I want to see him, awake, in about two weeks. Think you can manage that?” Kevin asked and Severus nodded. Kevin made his way to the fireplace and just as he was about to grab some floo powder, he felt a hand on his shoulder.
“Can you tell me when?” There was a confused look on Kevin’s face. “When it was conceived, when it’ll be born, when we’ll know it’s gender, when it’s first everything will be?” Severus asked, a strange look on his face. Kevin took a step away from the fireplace.
“Sure, no problem,” he replied with a smile. He walked back over to the young man sleeping on the bed and moved his wand over Harry’s stomach a few times. “Let’s see... you won’t be able to tell it’s gender because you’re vampires. Something about your magic keeps that hidden. I won’t know anything about the baby except that it is fine or not fine. And I’d say... about seven months. It’ll be due in February, right about St. Valentine's Day actually. However, this is a magical, male, vampiric delivery so I’m not quite sure just what will happen. Which is why I want to see him every two weeks.”
“Thank you again Kevin,” Severus said, shaking the other man’s hand. “See you in two weeks.”
Kevin flooed back to St. Mungo’s. Severus, however, simply curled up next to Harry to await his wakening.
Harry woke later that evening with hunger pains both for his human side and his vampiric side. Severus was beside him he knew: he could feel him, smell him, practically taste him. He shifted his head slightly to begin nuzzling the neck of his lover, but as soon as he did Severus jumped off the bed and began firing questions. The sudden noise escalated the headache he already had. And more pain made him grumpy. Severus was still asking something, but Harry couldn’t make it out. He was still in that place between being asleep and being awake. Slowly he started to sit up in bed, but hands on his shoulders were stopping him. He growled low and snapped at them, causing them to jerk back suddenly.
“Harry? What’s wrong?” the voice finally broke through: Sev. “Are you okay now? Just lay back and let me tell you what’s going on. Healer Kevin, someone I trust and has treated me before, came here shortly after you blacked out this morning after feeding and gave you a check over. He says that you’re pregnant, Love.”
Harry tensed. He’d calmed down since he learned it was Sev that was beside him, and was listening to his words. “I can’t be pregnant,” he said, and then winced. His own voice was too loud. “I can’t be pregnant,” he whispered this time. “I’m a man! And I’m not supposed to be pregnant. And did I mention I was a man?”
“Harry, Love, men can get pregnant in the wizarding world. However, vampires don’t get pregnant,” Severus said slowly in a low voice when he realized talking normally would give Harry a headache. “At least I didn’t think we could. There have been only a handful of cases to ever exist of a vampire, male or female, to get pregnant and have a baby. I am sorry to say that I’ve never heard of something like this happening and so I didn’t prepare for it. I am sorry, Harry.” Severus lowered his head so his forehead sat on the bed while he kneeled beside it, both hands grasping one of his childe’s.
“Why?”
“What do you mean why? You’re pregnant with an unwanted child. I did that to you.”
Harry tensed. “You don’t want it?”
“I-” Severus paused for a moment. Yes, he did want an heir, and yes, he did want to have kids with Harry. But this was completely unexpected and unplanned. He didn’t want any children to come into a family unloved and unwanted. He’d had enough of that himself when he was a child. He’d vowed he’d never put another through that. “I did want children, and I did want them with you. But we’re both vampires so this wasn’t supposed to happen and it was unplanned. We never talked about the possibility of children. I don’t want children if they won’t be loved. We’re not even bonded.”
“But you do want it?”
“Only if you do Harry. Only if you will love it as you do me.”
“Sev, I have always wanted children and thought I would never have any because I was never going to be with a woman. I want to keep it, and love it, and give it a good home. It’s a shock, but it definitely isn’t unwanted. Please, can we keep it? We don’t have to bond or anything if you think it’s too soon. It’ll still have your last name.”
“Out of the question!” Severus snapped, back on his feet once more. “No child will come into this relationship unless we are bonded. And if you don’t like that, Mr. Potter,” Severus sneered with a twinkle in his eye, “then you’ll just have to get over it. Because you and I are going to bond. This weekend in fact.”
“Oh really? And what makes you say that?”
“Because word will leak out eventually, Harry,” Severus said softly, serious now. “If we’re to keep this vampire bit under our hats, we’ll have to give them something else to talk about. You know something will happen if that damn Skeeter woman doesn’t have some kind of scoop on you.” He sighed and lay back down beside Harry, spooning him in front of himself. “Kevin said we won’t know the gender because of our vampiric nature. What do you want?”
Harry was silent for a minute, thinking it over. “A little girl with straight dark hair and dark eyes, with a love for flying and adventure and potions. A little girl who doesn’t care what everyone thinks of her, who has a chance to just be a child like we couldn’t for ourselves. A little girl who... who doesn’t have to grow up knowing Hogwarts is a home to her in case something happens because nothing will ever happen to her.” Tears started to form in the corners of his eyes. “Or maybe a little boy, one who is quiet but daring and mischievous. He’ll have dark unruly hair with dark eyes that betray nothing. He’ll run around and cause trouble, but he can sit and do as he’s told when his papa is teaching him potions.”
“So they both have to have a love of potions? Hope they get it from me then because you’re hopeless at it.” The two men laughed quietly for a moment. Then Harry’s words seemed to sink into Severus’ over thinking brain. “Harry? You said you didn’t want the child to grow up knowing Hogwarts was a home. What do you want to do about that?”
“Can we... go somewhere else? Nowhere too far away because I know you still want to teach, even if the kids do get on your nerves and Albus is being a pain in the arse. I know you don’t want to go to your ancestral home, and I doubt you’d want to go to Godric’s Hollow or Grimmauld Place. Both were left to me. I just want to see my kids run around in the front yard, playing with each other. It was something I never got to do. They should have the chance to run and play and be free before they come to Hogwarts and grow up and go out into the real world that is so cruel.”
Severus hugged him tight and kissed the side of his head. “Anything, Harry, anything you want you can have. If you want a house with a garden on the side and flowers growing in the windows, then I’ll do my best. If you want a little shack on the side of nowhere or a mansion that takes up a whole street, that’s fine with me.” Harry turned in his arms and buried his head into Sev’s chest before moving up some to capture his lips in a soft kiss. His stomach growled, causing him to break the kiss since he was laughing. “I’ll go get you something to eat,” Severus said as he began to rise from the bed.
“Wait,” Harry said, holding onto his hand. “Feed me first?”
“Of course. There’s no need to ask, Love.” Severus sat down again, letting Harry guide him to lay down before Harry began to lick and suckle on his sire’s neck.
A/N: Oohers. So what do you think? Review my pretties, review! Also, I only got two reviews for Chapter 11. *wipes a tear* That's okay though. I love my two reviewers!
maria joao: I don't plan on stopping until after the eqpilogue. Which comes after Chapter 18. And I'll only stop then because the story is over. And there is no sequel. I am sorry. However, I do have a Harry/Draco that's rated R only because there's nothing explicit that I can post when this one's done. And I am writing about fifty other stories at the moment. I promise to start writing more so I can get them out.
girlsbyte: I hope you can read the review replies this time since there's only two of them. Sever Us. I love it! LOL! I can't wait to hear from you again and then see you in a week. Well, not really see you. That's kinda stalkerish... o.O
That's it! Thanks you two. And thanks to everyone who's reading, even if you don't review. I still love you. Just not as much as I love my reviewers. *grin/smirk* -dpa06-
