Chapter 13 Back to Hogwarts
On her last day with Godric, the other three founders joined them to congratulate her for doing so well with her studies. Sky had become a force to be reckoned with in all areas in all areas of studying. She was quick, confident and above all, she was lethal.
On the rare occasions she became upset, she would still stutter over her speech. But those times were rare and usually only happened if she found Sir in a very bad state.
Sky frequently watched him in her bedroom mirror, mostly on an evening when he was alone, especially when he was in bed. The first time she saw him masturbate, she didn’t know what to make of it. When she asked Godric the next day, he almost choked and turned a peculiar shade of purple. Godric asked Rowena to come and explain it to her while he left to visit Sal. He returned around tea time but it was a further two days before either of them could look each other in the eye. But it didn’t stop her from watching Sir when he did it. She found it/him fascinating.
Though she admitted to herself that when she watched him play with himself, she was turned on, especially as it was her name he cried each time he reached his completion, often to the point where she would have to apply her own hand to find some relief. It had taken a while for her to lose her inhibitions about touching herself. But once she discovered how pleasurable it could be, Sky began to enjoy it. Quite often, she would pleasure herself as she watched him do the same. But that always left her wanting, as if she needed something more. But now it was time to leave. Sky was very reluctant. She wanted to stay here.
But all four founders said she should go to the castle and talk to the Headmaster and the Potions Master. And if it didn’t work out, then she could come back. After a tearful farewell, Sky walked out of the door and closed it behind her.
She could see him through the wall, waiting for her. He was alone this time, his wool cape blowing in the breeze. Sky had long since returned it to his room. Taking a deep breath, she stepped out of the wall.
“Are you waiting for me? Or is it just the view you’re here for?”
Severus took a sharp intake of breath when he saw her. She looked stunning. Her hair was hanging down her back in long luxuriant waves, small tendrils of it lifting gently in the breeze. Her midnight eyes were wide and shone like a moonlit sky. Like his, Sky’s cape also fluttered in the breeze and he could see her shapely figure in the form fitting robe she wore.
“I am waiting for you. That view is much more spectacular then I could ever see across these hills.”
She blushed slightly at his words. It was the first time Sir ever said anything nice to her.
“I’m ready to go back with you. But, I make no promises. And if you try to frighten or bully me, I shall leave. The same goes if you insult me or say anything untoward. Is that understood?”
Snape raised a shocked eyebrow at the authority in her manner. But he acquiesced. He did not have much of a choice.
“Agreed. I have no wish to intimidate you, in fact, quite the opposite. Shall we?” He asked, holding out his arm before she thought to question what he meant. “That was a very nifty little spell you performed the previous evening. It kept me awake all night.”
“That wasn’t what I intended.”
“What did you intend, Sky?”
“I just wanted you to think. Realise what you did to me, make you understand. Did it?”
“I had no choice but to think. I could not get the song out of my head. Or your image.”
As they reached the gates, Sky paused and took one last look behind her.
“Two years is a long time Sky. It is difficult for you to leave, that I do understand.”
Sky turned to look out over the grounds of Hogwarts. Some students were making the most of the warm weather. Sitting under tree’s, running around chasing each other, laughing, hugging, reading. All of them in two’s, three’s or groups.
I am not taking you to the gallows. You don’t have to do anything you do not wish. But I do hope you will give us a chance.”
He turned to face her fully and placed his hands on her arms gently.
“I have not treated you well in the past. In fact, I have treated you in a most disgusting manner. I wish I had not.”
Sky looked at him, her eyes searching his. “Is that an apology?”
He nodded. “It is. Though I do not expect you to forgive me.”
“I forgave you a long time ago. But I can’t forget. Not yet.”
Severus was stunned. “You forgive me? After all I did to you? But why?”
“Yes I do, as for why that is more difficult to answer. Let’s just say that it was hurting me more then it was hurting you. Then leave it at that.”
“I appreciate your honesty, and I thank you.”
“Yeah. Well come on before the Headmaster wets his drawers wondering why we’re taking so long.”
He took her by surprise when he actually laughed. “You really think he might?” He asked. His face lit with a smile.
Sky stomach did a flip when she saw that smile. “No I don’t. You know, you really should smile more often.”
He frowned for a moment then smiled again. “You think so?”
“Yeah. At least now I know your face won’t crack when you do.”
This time, she smiled as his jaw dropped. No one had ever dared speak to him in such a way, not if they wanted to live they didn’t. But when he saw her own smile his own returned yet again.
“I see you have developed impudence amongst your other … attributes.”
“Oh believe me, Professor, I have developed a lot of things; not least a sense of humour. . You should get one.”
Before his mind had time to register what she said, she vanished.
The fact that quite a few students were staring at him with amused expressions on their faces caused him to scowl. But he knew Sky was close by him, just because he could not see her didn’t mean he did not feel her presence. He stood, waiting until he felt her movements. It was a strange sensation. Not one he’d ever encountered before now, just a knowing that she was in front or behind him, and close, very close.
Schooling his face to a neutral expression, Severus began to walk slowly in the direction of the castle. After taking only half a dozen steps his left hand shot out and grabbed her arm. “Got you.” He intoned in a low silky voice.
“Argh. How did you know were I was?” Sky reappeared. “You couldn’t see me. I know you couldn’t.”
He smirked and raised an eyebrow. “You are not the only one with … attributes.”
They walked quickly to the main doors.
Sky didn’t feel comfortable when she stepped through the doors. The times she came and healed Sir, she didn’t have the chance to think much on what happened here previously. This time was different and her emotions were in turmoil.
Students were milling about and did their best to stay out of the Potion Master’s way. But they were naturally curious about the young woman he brought in with him, the older ones especially. When she shrugged off her cloak, they got to see how shapely she was. Severus didn’t notice them as he too had his eyes on Sky. It was difficult for him not to appraise her body.
Sky held her chin up. To look at her, no one would guess at her inner turmoil, she hid it too well. But Severus could sense her rising panic.
“Shall we?” Offering his arm once more, they made their way to the stone gargoyle that guarded the entrance to the Headmaster’s office.
It moved aside at their approach and Severus was spared the humiliation of having to repeat the ridiculous password Albus came up with this term.
Stepping onto the moving spiral staircase, they headed up to see the Headmaster. The door opened as soon as they reached it.
“Sky. I am so glad you decided to come and join us. Welcome.”
“I have decided nothing yet. I came only to listen. Once I have heard what you have to say, then I will make a decision.”
Albus was a little taken aback but let it pass. “I can ask no more. Please, sit. Would you care for a cup of tea?”
Sky sat in the fireside chair, Severus to her side on the sofa and Albus taking the seat opposite her, cup of tea in hand and waited. The old man fussed a bit with the tea tray, trying to delay the moment he would need to begin explaining things, and Sky was getting impatient.
“Headmaster? You wanted to talk to me.”
“Yes I do. But it is difficult to know where to begin. There is much you need to know.”
“So try the beginning.”
Severus raised an eyebrow at the sarcasm in her voice but Albus did not seem to notice it. The Headmaster put down his cup and looked at her.
“Firstly, the reason you were first brought here. I received an anonymous letter telling me that a child, you, was being held at an institution. No address was given. Instead, a portkey was provided. That is how our Potions Master found you. No explanation was given other then you were to be found and brought here. You were to be our new hope of destroying Voldemort.”
“Who?”
“Voldemort.” Severus told her. “The Dark Lord. You have met him on one occasion.”
Sky turned to him, her expression of bewilderment rapidly changing to one of realisation.
“You mean that revolting skeleton man who … “
“The very one.” The Potions Master put in quickly. “He is the reason the wizarding world lives in fear. He has amassed great armies of Death Eaters. You met several of those also. His plan is to destroy all muggle and halfblooded witches and wizards. Only those of pureblood families who believe in the supremacy of having only a pureblood race shall be allowed to live. He plans to rule all.”
“So why hasn’t anyone done anything about it?”
“He is a very powerful wizard Sky. None are equal to him at this time. It has always been hoped that a young man named Harry Potter would be the one to destroy him. The whole of wizarding Britain believes this.”
“So why hasn’t he?”
Albus explained about the Horcruxes, about Harry’s loss of his parents and the curse of the scar on his head, the loss of his godfather and how it sent him into a downward spiral of depression. At sixteen, Harry was nowhere near ready.
“I doubt he ever will be, Albus.”
Sky looked at Sir. “You don’t like him do you?”
“It is not a question of whether or not I like him. The fact is, he is not up to the job.”
“So where do I fit in? If you want me to talk to this ‘Harry’ I mean, I don’t even know him. And I can’t tell him what to do.”
“No Sky, we do not want you to talk to Potter.” Severus looked at Albus to continue.
“Sky, the reason you are here, is because you are the only one who can destroy Voldemort. You are the only one with enough power to do so.”
Sky’s mind was whirling with a mix of emotions: shock, anger, disappointment, hurt and betrayal.
“So you just want me so I can get rid of this Voldemort? That’s it?”
Albus nodded his head. But Severus could feel her confusion, her hurt and betrayal.
“It is the reason you were originally brought here, yes. But do not make any decisions yet. I would like to speak with you privately, perhaps after lunch, in my quarters. There are other things we need to discuss.”
She met his eyes, looking for something, searching their depths. What she was looking for she didn’t know but she saw something that caused her to nod her agreement.
“Okay, after lunch.”
The three stood and headed out of the office and down the spiral staircase. Sky loved this staircase at one time. Now, it meant nothing to her. At the doors to the Great Hall, she stopped, frozen in her tracks. Albus was already through and halfway to the head table but Severus, who was walking at her side stopped to look at her.
“What is it?”
”I … I can’t … not in there.”
Sky. You are not going in to be sorted. We are merely going to eat.”
“They’ll be in there. All of them. The ones that saw when I … “
He led her to one side and down a narrow corridor.
“This way is the teachers’ entrance. You do not have to walk through the hall if you do not wish. As to everyone seeing you. It has been two years. You have changed. Yes they will look, but not because of what happened in the past. You are new, a stranger. You are also very attractive. Of course, they will look. But the only ones who will know you are the staff, and they are looking forward to seeing you.”
“What if I’m not looking forward to seeing them?”
“You do not have to speak with them if you do not wish to. But you would not speak to me at one time, and that has changed.”
“That’s different.”
“Is it? Why?”
She frowned at him, arms folded. “I don’t know. It just is.”
He thought there was something familiar about her stance but was not sure what.
“You have nothing to be ashamed of Sky. Hold up your head and walk through the hall with me proudly. You have every right. You have been personally taught by our Founders after all.”
Severus offered his arm and she took it. Together, they walked into the hall and down the centre aisle to the head table. He could feel her trembling as they walked, but to her credit there was no hint of nervousness in her appearance. At the head table, Albus indicated an empty seat between him and Professor McGonagall.
But Sky hesitated, and when Sir moved along the table to take his own seat, she quickly followed. Severus raised an eyebrow, but pulled out a chair for her next to his own. She didn’t look at or apologise to the Headmaster. Severus shrugged his shoulders. But inside, he felt rather smug that she seemed to prefer his company.
When the food appeared, he watched her covertly as she ate. Her eating manners were impeccable though she kept her eyes on her plate constantly, never lifting them to look around or acknowledge any of the staff that tried to draw her into conversation. In fact, she ignored everyone until she finished eating. That was when she took her time to look over the sea of students quite openly.
“Which one is Harry Potter?”
Severus indicated a tall dark haired young man.
“There, at the Gryffindor table. Between the red haired Weasel and the girl with bushy hair.”
Sky looked directly at Harry who happened to also look in her direction at that moment. She nodded in his direction and he gave her a puzzled look and nodded back.
“And you say he is supposed to …”
“Sh” Not here.” Severus hissed. “Later. We can discuss whatever you wish when we go to my quarters.”
“Let’s go now then. I’ve listened plenty. Now it is my turn to ask.”
Sky stood and made her way from the hall.
Once again Severus’ jaw dropped as she took the initiative, he had to walk fast to catch up with her, glaring at students on the way. Sky had aimed her wand at his office door, opened it and was sitting by the fire when he arrived. He did not like this at all.
“You really are in the habit of inviting yourself into my rooms aren’t you?”
“You asked me to come if you remember. Only I don’t struggle to keep up any more.”
“I noticed.”
Sitting down to face her, he was suddenly unable to speak. All the things he’d been wanting to say flitting from his mind in a sudden flood of panic. Several times he opened his mouth to speak, only to snap it shut again.
Sky watched him with a lopsided smile. “I thought I was the one with the speech problems, not you.”
Severus narrowed his eyes. “You are not exactly making it easy for me.”
“Give me one good reason why I should.”
“In truth, I cannot. I have no reason any longer. Not when it comes to you. It is like I am bewitched.”
“I know.” She told him casually.
His eyes widened. “You know? How could you know? These past two years all I have thought of, dreamt of is you. It is like you have taken over my mind. How could you possibly know?”
“I know many things Sir. Not least how you feel about me. I know what you dream of. I know that you think of me when you … I just do.”
After turning several shades of white and then red, Severus narrowed his eyes again. “It was you. Looking into my mind. All those times, it was you.”
Sky nodded. “It was. I wanted to know. Needed to know.”
“You needed to know that I was thinking of you when … and how do you know what I was doing when I thought of you? I cannot believe you have done this.”
Severus was outraged as well as embarrassed.
“What I needed to know was how you thought of me. You changed toward me, when I was healing you. That night, on my birthday when I came down from the hills. You didn’t try and … then after we saw that mad man and I healed you, you in turn healed me. But you didn’t … I was in your bed.”
“And you think that gave you the right to pry into my mind without my consent?”
“No. But you did it to me. Twice that I know of. So I don’t see why it’s any different.”
“No, well you wouldn’t.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means that when I performed Legilimens on you, it was to find out what happened to you, your past. You were not in a position to tell me yourself.”
“And the second time?”
“To discover what exactly happened when you rescued me from the Dark Lord. You were in a bad way when I awoke. Unfortunately, I made things worse.”
“I know that too.”
“You have been busy. But you have me at a disadvantage. You know how I feel about you. But I know nothing of how you feel for me, other than disliking me which is only to be expected.”
“You’re wrong Sir”
“And stop calling me Sir. My name is Severus.”
“It’s better than Fessor, I suppose.” Sky told him with a shy smile. “As to my feelings for you. It’s taken me a long time to understand them. I began to care what happened to you. I got upset when you were hurt. For a good while all I felt for you was fear; hurt. I still feel the hurt. But other feelings came that I didn’t understand. I still don’t to be honest. But they’re sort of nice feelings. Feelings I’ve never had before. That‘s why I watched you so much.”
“You watched me. How? When? Is that how you knew …?”
Now it was Sky’s turn to go several shades of red.
“Clearly the answer is yes. And how did it make you feel? When you watched me?”
“Um, nice. Kind of tingly.”
He laughed softly and stood, holding a hand out to her. When she accepted it he pulled her to her feet.
“Tingly eh?”
She nodded. His fingers gently lifted her chin and he leaned down and pressed his lips softly against hers.
“Does that make you feel tingly?”
Sky nodded again. It made her feel very tingly. Lowering his head again, he captured her lips once more, running his tongue along her lips and making her gasp. When her lips parted in surprise, he deepened the kiss, slipping his tongue into her mouth, probing gently. Sky was unsure what to do. It was her first kiss. But when his tongue met hers, she tentatively moved her own.
He felt her uncertainty and withdrew. “Tingly?” He smiled, his eyes locked to hers, his finger still holding her chin.
“Yes. Very tingly. It was nice.”
“Only nice? I am disappointed.”
“V … very nice.”
Slipping an arm around her waist he pulled her closer, their bodies touching.
“And this?” He asked, grinding his hips into hers.
Sky was mortified. “It’s nice too. But s … scary.”
“It is not something to fear, Sky. It is normal, natural to feel good when you kiss someone.”
“I know. Rowena told me. But you … well Rowena said that … when we saw …”
“What did you and Rowena see Sky?”
“Yo … your … thing. She said it was the erm biggest she‘d ever erm seen.”
Once again, he laughed. “Both of you saw? Yes, I am larger then most. But don’t let it frighten you, Sky. If we did become lovers, and I hope we will, then you will become accustomed to my size. You will fit around me like a glove.”
She gulped. Many times she had thought about what it would be like to do it, and always with him. But the thought that he would actually try and put it inside of her. It would rip her in two.
“Would it hurt a lot?”
“At first. The first time is always painful for any woman. Sometimes a couple of times after that. But it would be pleasurable too. I would make certain of that. But I will not force you Sky. I want you to need it as much as I do.”
“That summer, when you brought me here. Sometimes you did things to me. Things you shouldn’t have done. Rowena told me you shouldn’t have touched me. But it felt nice then too. But then you always hurt me after you touched me. Is that what would happen if we … would you hurt me when we … after?”
“O Merlin no.” Severus drew her into his arms. “Sky, I am not the man I was at least not where you are concerned. I never want to hurt you. What I did back then was wrong, very wrong. But I want to make it right. I want you to stay with me, always.”
She was stunned. This was too much too soon. Her feelings for the Potions Master had grown so much. But to stay with him always? She was scared of what would happen. What if he hadn’t changed? What if he was only saying these things to make her stay and get rid of Voldemort?
“I don’t know. It’s too much. I still don’t know what I have to do. Things could go wrong and …”
“Shh. There is no rush. We can sit and talk. I will tell you anything you want to know.”
“I’d like that. But I can’t stay here. Not in this castle. I need to go back to the wall and think about things.”
“If that is what you feel you must do I accept that. I am willing to wait for you Sky.”
She was beginning to realise that wanting something, no matter how badly, was a lot different to actually having it.
“I’ll come back tomorrow, to talk with you and the Headmaster about Voldemort.” “Stupid name if you ask me.” She muttered under her breath.
“It is not a name most usually have the nerve to repeat.”
“Why not? It’s just a name.”
“True. But it is the most feared name in the wizard world Sky. Many have died at his hands and those of his followers.”
“Sir, erm Severus, how come you know him? Why do you go there when he does all these awful things to you and others?”
“I shall tell you tomorrow. Today you have enough to absorb. I shall walk you to the wall.”
They made their way out and when they reached the wall Severus could still not see the opening. When Sky put her hand round the overhang, it looked to him as though her hand was inside the stonework.
“Hold my hand Severus. See if you can see it then.”
He took her hand and could still see a plain wall. Sky stepped into the overlap and pulled him with her.
“Ouch.” He was pulled smack bang into the stone wall.
“Looks like the only way you can get in is when I bring you through the inner door. I’ll come that way tomorrow.”
“Into my room? What time?”
“No. The headmaster’s office. Ten o’clock. You can tell him.”
With that she was gone. Severus hoped he would get to kiss her again but she left without giving him a chance. He still had a slight smile to his face when he returned to the castle, along with a large bruise on his forehead.
That night he undressed in his bathroom and put on a pair of pyjamas. Not something he would normally do but the feeling he was being watched was with him constantly now. Just in case, when he climbed into bed he lifted a hand and said “Goodnight Sky.”
Sky was watching him. Even when he was in the bathroom, she could see him. She knew why he went in there and why he suddenly took to wearing pyjamas. It made her smile. But her smile turned to shock when he looked directly at her and bid her goodnight. She broke the connection and scrambled into bed.
