Chapter 13
“Oh Merlin, I am so tired,” Harry sighed as he slumped down to his seat at dinner.
Draco sat next to him, looking as devastated as Harry. “It’s your fault that I feel the same way.”
Ron, who had been looking rather pale ever since their coming out, spluttered. “Would you keep it between yourselves?”
“Sorry, mate,” Harry apologized and gave Draco a sharp poke with his elbow.
“Darling, that hurts!” Draco exclaimed mockingly.
“Serves you right.” Harry gave him a warning glance before starting to fill his plate with the delicious food served.
Hermione arrived shortly after. It was unusual that she came in so late. She was always the first ones to be at breakfast. She didn’t look particularly happy either.
“Hermione, I’m sorry for what this idiot here said yesterday. You should not pay any mind to him and what he says.” He tried to say as cheerfully as possible. As a reward he caught her smiling back to him.
“It’s ok, Harry,” she said and sat on his other side.
Harry glared at his boyfriend who was buttering bread while looking disinterested on what was going on but caught Harry’s glare.
“My bad, Granger, no hard feelings,” Draco said between bites.
Hermione shook her head disapprovingly. “It’s fine. Let’s just forget it.”
Harry was not sure if things were ok. He would need to talk to Hermione about it as soon as he found a way to get rid of Draco for at least for a minute. His chance came in a rather unexpected way. One of Draco’s friends came to talk to him and he needed to have a word with him in private. Harry watched him go, making sure he was far away enough before turning towards Hermione. “Herm, tell me if you don’t approve of this.”
She looked a bit surprised. “Harry, honestly it is fine. You don’t need my permission to date anyone. I am just surprised that it is him. I never knew that you had such strong feelings for him.”
Harry laughed a nervous laugh. “It was a surprise for me too. I never knew it would end up like this.”
Hermione smiled knowingly. “Well aren’t you happy that it did?”
Harry looked away. “Yeah.”
Hermione giggled. “You are being modest, Harry. You should be happy that you found someone like him. He seems devoted to you by what I have seen so far.”
Harry sighed tiredly. “He sure is that a bit too much.”
Hermione laughed and touched his shoulder briefly. “Forgive him for that. He is just a little possessive of you, don’t you think?”
Harry smiled back at her. “He certainly is. You have no idea what I go through with him.”
Draco walked back to the table, taking his school bag from under the seat. ”Time to go, Potter. I’ll see you in couple of hours,” he said and kissed Harry’s lips quickly.
”Ok, see you.” Harry smiled, watching the retreating back of his boyfriend.
Hermione rose up. ”We need to hurry too.”
Harry got up as well, throwing the bag over his left shoulder. ”Let’s go,” he said. He was feeling happy for some time alone without his boyfriend only because now he could concentrate on his studies but on the other hand he was missing the blond already.
--..--..--
Draco was waiting for him at the entrance to the Great Hall. The Slytherin boy had his bag draped across his shoulder and he leisurely leaned against the wall. A few people greeted him as they passed but some hurried quickly pass him. Harry was worried about the other boy. Who knew what kind of consequences their relationship had on his friendships. Harry had experienced some rather unpleasant moments himself too but none of the people important to him were against his choice. Of course Ron had said a few carefully selected words to him but in the end he had just grunted his approval.
Suddenly Ron walked past him quickly striding his way towards the blond. ”Oy, Malfoy!”
Harry felt a bit scared for his boyfriend’s safety so he hurried after his best friend.
The blond pushed himself away from the wall. ”Hello, Weasley.”
Ron grabbed hold of the Slytherin’s collar, lifting his above ground as he was much taller than Draco. ”I will say this to you only once,” his voice was low and full of threat. ”If you hurt Harry in any way I swear you will hope you never were born.”
Draco smirked but drop it when Ron’s face stayed serious. ”Alright, I promise.”
Ron dropped him to ground. ”Good. See you around, Malfoy,” he said and walked away.
Draco straightened his robes when Harry finally reached him. ”Your best friend has the manners of an ape.”
Harry sighed in relief. ”I am just glad he didn’t hit you.”
Draco put arm around Harry’s shoulders. ”You would’ve saved me for sure,” he said and smirked. He pulled Harry into a kiss and Harry wanted to melt against him but still he pulled away soon after.
”We shouldn’t do this in public. People goggle at us and I don’t like that.”
The Slytherin just smiled. ”Ok, I will restrain myself from now on but you do look rather cute when you are worried,” he said but still kept his arm around him. ”You had a free period now, right?”
Harry nodded, wondering what the other boy had in mind.
”Hmm, would you say no to a bit of flying?” Draco seemed a bit nervous when he asked.
Harry got excited. ”Let’s go!” he exclaimed and pulled the blond towards the door.
”Harry wait! We need brooms and proper clothes,” Draco said, trying to stop the too enthusiastic teen.
”Oh, yeah you are right! I’ll meet you at the pitch in ten minutes then,” Harry said as he rushed to the stairs towards the Gryffindor Tower.
--..--..--
Draco went to his dormitory where he kept his broom under his bed. He had packed it carefully just in case he needed it. He took the broom in his hand from all the wrappings and felt nostalgic emotions take over him. He could almost feel how it felt to have the wind blow against his face. Memories of old games passed his mind and thoughts of playing against Harry surfaced. He shook his head to get rid of the intense feeling of getting brought to his limits and then the bitter sweet feeling of loss. He had loved the games nonetheless. He had felt challenged and that was what a Quidditch game should be, a challenge.
Someone coughed behind him. He had not heard anyone enter the room. He turned and came eye to eye with his stalker. He remained cool as he looked at her. “Is there anything you need?” he asked calmly.
“Draco, love,” she took a step closer to him. “Don’t you think it is time for you to stop the game with him? Everyone knows you don’t even like him.”
Draco shook his head. “You are wrong, Pansy.”
She laughed out loud. “You are naïve if you think that you two have any future! He is the Saviour after all. There will be more than enough temptation for him. People will throw themselves at him. Are you prepared to watch that from the side? Eventually there will be someone who is lot more attractive that you and he will fall. If you were with me there would be nothing to worry about. You are my one and only, Draco.”
“Nothing you say--“
“Nothing? How about the little girl, Ginny was it? How about her? He had hots for her just a little while ago and now suddenly he is in love with you of all people? Are you sure you are not the one being played?”
“Pansy, please stop this nonsense. We had a moment but it is gone. I am with Potter now,” he tried to stay calm but he was having some doubts inside about how Harry really felt.
She smiled a cruel smile. “You will see what I mean, Draco. Sooner than you think,” she said and left.
Draco let out a sigh of relief. He took his winter cloak from the foot of his bed and left to meet his boyfriend. Pansy’s words had awoken the thoughts he was sure he would never have. He didn’t know when it had changed but now he was concerned about what Harry thought of him. Harry did seem a bit too fickle some times. It had been easy to get him into bed and getting him out of it was nearly impossible now. It made him wonder if this was the way the other boy acted with others.
He stopped in his tracks at the entrance hall as he realized that he had forgotten about the plan completely. Suddenly fear gripped his insides. Was he prepared if his plan was successful after all when he no longer wanted it to?
--..--..--
Harry arrived to the pitch but the blond was nowhere to be found. He looked around and saw no one even near the pitch. He mounted the broom and flew near the ground slowly in circles. He kept glancing at the school doors to see if Draco would appear. He suddenly curved upwards accelerating to high speed and then letting himself almost to drop into a free fall. The wind on his face made his thoughts clear. His head had been a real mess after this whole thing started with Draco. The other boy had been so weird and mysterious the whole time and then when they started sleeping together he had been really clingy. Not that Harry minded the closeness but sometimes it felt like Draco was really pushing it. It didn’t feel like the blond was with him all the time even when they were sitting really close to each other.
He shook the uneasiness from his shoulders when he saw Draco finally appear in sight. He landed to greet the blond but halted when he saw the look on his face. “Is something wrong?” he asked when the blond suddenly hugged him. Draco stayed quiet, leaning against the raven haired boy.
Harry was at loss at what to do. He could only close the other boy into his arms and hold him until he would tell him what was wrong.
“Nothing,” Draco said. “Let’s fly.” He let Harry go and mounted his broom.
“Draco, wait.” Harry grabbed hold of Draco arm before he kicked off the ground. “Did someone say something to you or why are you being so weird?”
Draco looked at him angrily. “Do you want to fly or not?”
“Draco!”
“Potter, honestly, I want to fly with you if that is a problem then we can just leave.”
Harry let him go. “Fine, let’s fly.”
As they flew the first snow started falling and they decided to call it a day after that. Harry walked couple of steps behind Draco towards the castle. “Why won’t you tell me?”
Draco stopped and turned to face him. “Why do you have to know?”
Harry pouted. “Aren’t we supposed to tell each other about our problems?”
Draco shook his head a bit and sighed. “Harry, that is not how the world works.”
“We aren’t talking about the world. We are talking about you,” he said and took a step closer to the blond. “You can tell me anything.”
“No, I can’t.” Draco turned away.
Harry forcefully made him face him again. “Yes you can. Stop being a coward, Draco.”
Draco glanced at him from the corner of his eye. “Then would you promise not to get angry if I told you things you don’t want to hear?”
Harry mulled it over for a second. “Probably not but I can try.”
Draco closed his eyes and turned away again. “Then let’s forget it, shall we?” He started walking towards the castle again. “We are going to be late for the next class if we don’t hurry.”
Harry watched him go and decided to let it drop. For some reason his heart was drenched in ice. He didn’t like this feeling one bit. He was now sure more than ever that Draco was not what he seemed to be. The secretive manner he tried to avoid certain topics, the way he seemed preoccupied in something else most of the time. It was more than enough to rise suspicion and then all those things he had said before.
“Oh no, it is not me who you should be scared of.”
“Yes, I lied through my teeth there because of what I intend to do with you has everything to do with that."
"You are just a fool, Potter, too good for your own good and too much of a hero to realize what is right in front of you."
Draco turned to look at him when he didn’t follow. “Are you coming, Harry?” he asked and smiled.
Harry mentally gritted his teeth as he replied, “Of course.” He just couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad was bound to happen and soon.
