Kaylin slept that night like no
other. One unfortunate part was: It was her unwaking nightmare happening again.
It wouldn't leave her alone. Three weeks had done this nightmare no justice. It
still got worse each time. She had even tried to avoid sleeping. The second
week in she'd managed to not sleep the entire time. After that, she crashed big
time. It was hell, and she knew for sure it would happen.
Yawning, she blinked. It was like
yesterday she'd awakened to the same sunrise in the window, and looked into the
porcelain face of Draco Malfoy. The air in the room seemed to change as the
door opened. Professor Snape stalked in, his face looking amused.
"Well well. Tell me. Why is
Draco upset with you, Slytherin? He's avoiding you." Snape said, glowering
at the girl in the cot next to him. Kaylin sat up and glared at him. A smirk
suddenly played across her features.
"Of course you must know
that it's because he's a prat. No... I just made him angry. I've been stalking
him and shit. I'm done stalking, but I plan on dealing with the problem. He
needs something..." Kaylin laughed and climbed out of bed. It was the
first snow of the year. The seasons seemed to be out of whack slightly. Being
Saturday, everyone was out in the snow. The laughter could be heard from her
position at the window. Everyone was outside.
"As a matter of fact, I'm
going down to the common room to sort things out with Draco now. See you
Professor." She said, walking toward the door, and glancing around.
Turning, she headed toward the common room.
She entered, seeing Draco in a
seat by the fire. He was looking intently at the fire, as if resisting doing
something.
"Hey..." Kaylin said
softly, looking at him shyly in the firelight.

Draco sat in an armchair,
resisting going to visit Kaylin and apologizing. It took almost all of his
effort not to. He felt terrible. He must have looked it, but no one knew. It
wasn't like anyone was in the room with him. All of them were out in the snow,
enjoying their time. A voice brought him out f his silent thought process and
he stopped twiddling his thumbs. It was her voice. Kaylin was here. Why? He's
actually worried about the girl.
"Hey..." He said,
looking at her with a raised eyebrow. Was she really coming to talk to him
after he said he'd be avoiding her? Shaking his head he looked at her.
"Draco... I wanted to tell
you... I'm done stalking you." Kaylin said, looking at the floor and
seating herself in a chair next to his.
Draco blanched. "WHAT? How
do I know you aren't lying through your teeth, Slytherin?" He sneered,
with less of his usual bite. He was having trouble being unkind to her, even if
he was tired. He'd stayed up all night out of guilt. He shook his head and
growled. "I don't believe you."
"I don't expect you to
Draco... But I'm not lying. I have better things to be doing... School
work." Kaylin replied, looking over at him. Her eyes sparkled in the
firelight, and Draco looked into them.
She's beautiful. I love those
eyes... WHAT? Draco coughed and looked back at the fire.
"Fine. I hope you are
telling the truth... I need some sleep now if you don't mind." He rose from
his seat and headed up to his dormitory. He was sure he'd be sleeping quite a
while.
*******************************************************************************
He deserves sleep...
Kaylin thought, smiling lightly. Somehow she had grown to like him. Once hated,
now, liked a little more than she was comfortable to admit. Leaving the common
room, she headed down the halls. Harry was walking her way and neither noticed
the other, causing a collision.
"OH DAMN YOU POTT-What's
that piece of paper there?" Kaylin hissed, as Potter picked up something
he'd dropped. Raising an eyebrow, she stalked past. HA! He needs a map to
find his way around the school.
Snickering in amusement, Kaylin
walked away. "Whatever that was about I think it was pretty damn
amusing... Weasley! Get a haircut!" She shouted at Ron, who happened to be
trying to catch up to Harry. Scowling, he walked away, causing her to burst
into laughter again.
An hour passed, before Kaylin
returned to the common room, growling slightly. No Draco. Why do I care?
Some fifth years had come in from
the snow, and were dripping everywhere. "Upstairs. Change. NOW. That's
disgusting."
********************************************************************************
Draco groaned at all the noises
that he heard coming from the windows. Grabbing his wand off his nightstand, he
used a silencing charm on the windows. Sighing at the relieving silence, Draco
drifted back to sleep.
Noises could be heard pounding up
the stairs. Voices were ringing outside his door and he groaned and rolled over
wishing they'd shut up.
"Who does she think she
is..? Telling us to change... What a bitch." The fifth years were saying.
"SHUT UP. Can't I get some
bloody sleep?" Draco said, throwing his door open, and growling at them
angrily. They just stood and stared at him blankly. Then more foot steps came
up the stairwell.
"I TOLD YOU TO GO CHANGE.
Stop bothering Draco!" Came a familiar voice. Kaylin. What was she doing
up here?
Snorting, Draco went back into
his room, and Kaylin followed, looking concerned.
"How long do you plan to
sleep?" She asked. All he did was groan and climb back into bed. He was tired,
and he wasn't going to let her keep him up.
"Whatever... I'm going to
lunch. I'll bring something back for you..." She whispered the last part
and left the room.
He didn't mind that she'd left,
as he could finally get some sleep uninterrupted. Part of him wanted her to
stay though. Wanted her to lie with him. What was that? Shaking
his head, he drifted off into the oblivion again. It was much needed sleep, as
he'd been up all night worrying about her. Kaylin...
**********************************************************************************
The fifth years annoyed the hell
out of her. She hated anyone that bothered Draco now for some reason. Do I
really have to care? Love is a weakness. Even the Dark Lord says that. Love is
nothing... But disappointment. If he dies I'd have nothing TO love...
"Noisy gits..." She
muttered, leaving Draco to sleep. It was better to stay away from him. He most
likely didn't have the same feelings for her that she did for him. If he did
he'd never tell her. He had too big an ego to reveal something like that to
her.
The stairs seemed to last
forever, but she made it to the Great Hall in time for lunch. She picked at her
food slowly, thinking. How would he react if she revealed her feelings for him?
Shaking her head, she put her fork into her mouth and tried to lose herself in
the monotonous chewing. it didn't help to take her mind off things. Sighing,
she finished her lunch and grabbed a few sandwiches. Getting up, she stalked
out of the Great Hall, huffing slightly. It made her feel like a coward to not
be able to tell him how she felt. Overexposed to weakness, the weakness that
is love...
Entering the common room, Kaylin
headed up to the door to Draco's room and knocked. All she got in response was
a groan. Snorting she opened the door, and smirked.
"Sleeping still? I see you
lit a fire... It is cold in here..." She said, wiping the smirk off her
face and smiling slightly. He was serene in sleep, until he sat up slightly and
glared at her.
"WHAT DO YOU WANT?" He
hissed at her causing her to cringe slightly. Apparently he didn't take well to
being awakened.
"Just thought you might be
hungry..." She choked, showing him the sandwiches. All he did was snort
and lay back down. For some reason that made her angry, and she threw the
sandwiches into the fire. Turning to leave, she noticed he was looking at her
from under the blanket with a sad look in his eyes. That look made her snort
and stalk out of the room.
***********************************************************************************
Being left alone once again, he
wished he'd been a bit kinder toward her. He cared now. He'd admit that much.
He knew that much. Draco wasn't sure what he felt toward her, but wondered what
compelled her to suddenly be kind. He glanced at the fire and frowned, rolling
over and going back to sleep. It was the only way to escape the guilty feelings
he still had. His cruelty, and ignorance had nearly killed her. How would he
ever apologize enough to her? How could she ever forgive him for being such an
asshole? He was still thinking about her as he slept.
Her face wouldn't leave him
alone. Pale, almost like porcelain. Black hair, long and shiny at all times.
Serious eyebrows that meant business. Black lines around those bluish-green
eyes. Pink thin lips that... He tried to stop the thoughts and sleep
dreamlessly, but her image kept disturbing him in his attempts to sleep.
***********************************************************************************
Kaylin headed out of his room in
a huff once again, and left the common room. She headed to the Entrance hall,
and leaned against the wall near the large oaken doors. Taking her head in her
hands she sighed. His image kept assailing her mind. First it was of his
perfect image.
Pale face. Blond hair like a beam
of sunlight. Pointed features. Tall thin body... Then the image of him dead
came back to her and she shuddered, releasing a sob. It seemed love hurt. Why
should she bother with it? It was impossible to ignore her feelings for him
now. They stalked her, as she had done him. These feelings would chase her
until it killed her it seemed. Unless... What if she went and told him how she
felt..? Even if he rejected her, at least he'd know why she was being so kind
to him all of a sudden.
Turning, the decision was made.
Whether he liked her or not, she'd be telling him how she felt. She made her
way back to his room to disturb his sleep for the last time that day. Evening
was approaching soon, and everyone was back outside except her and Draco.
