“Mr. Malfoy, you have a visitor.”
Draco was sitting up in bed doing some reading for Arithmancy. Apparently, nearly dying didn’t excuse you from schoolwork unless you wanted to repeat a term. He had already missed one week of classes and Pomfrey was determined to keep him in the hospital wing for at least another week or two.
He lifted his eyes from his book to see Daphne strolling into the infirmary. She was one of the few people who had come to visit him. Granger obviously couldn’t and the other Slytherins who deigned to come see him had come out of curiosity more than concern. She let her black leather bag flop onto the foot of his bed. She tilted her head to the side, her ponytail elegantly falling over one shoulder.
“Daphne, how nice of you to visit.”
“I brought the books you wanted,” she said as she pulled some of Draco’s books from her bag and placed them next to him on the bed. She lifted a small black notebook from the pile, her eyes glinting slightly.
“I found this one quite interesting.”
Draco’s shoulders tensed. Snape already knew about his relationship with Hermione; the last thing he needed was another Slytherin on his tail. Daphne twirled the little notebook in her long fingers.
“I’m very intrigued by what could be so important you would keep it under such a strong locking spell,” she locked eyes with him briefly, “And no, I couldn’t open it so you can relax. Did you start keeping a diary Draco?”
She tossed the spelled notebook back on the stack with Draco’s other books and Draco resisted the urge to snatch it up. “It’s rude to snoop you know,” he said coldly.
“Oh you know I love a good secret Draco.” She perched in the wooden chair by his bed. “And things have been so terribly dull… Potter is snogging a Weasley, the girl one.”
Draco wrinkled his nose and Daphne nodded. “I know; It’s disgusting. Oh and Pansy is snogging Theodore; predictable.”
Draco shrugged. The time when he cared who Pansy snogged was long past. Daphne slumped in a rather unladylike manner. “Agreed, the predictability of it makes me ill. Our house is becoming disastrously inbred.”
“And the other day you were complaining about how no one in our house would date you.” Draco drawled.
Daphne sighed, “Oh Draco, just because a boy won’t date you because of your blood status doesn’t mean he won’t fuck you.” She smiled as she said it but her eyes were disdainful.
What she said made Draco uncomfortable. He imagined those same words coming out of Hermione’s mouth and it made his stomach clench. Daphne continued.
“Really the only other acceptable house to date from is Ravenclaw but I hate a man who thinks he’s smarter than I am. Hufflepuff is out of the question, as is Gryffindor. Although I can’t help but think Gryffindors would be… interesting…” Daphne smiled slightly to herself.
Draco resisted the urge to nod in agreement, wistfully thinking of Granger.
“Daphne, you’d have every boy in Gryffindor wrapped around your finger by dinner if you tried.”
She grinned smugly. “True, but there’s not much satisfaction in an easy conquest.” She glanced at her watch. “Speaking of conquests, I have places to be.” She picked up her bag and strode out of the infirmary.
As soon as she was gone Draco picked up the little notebook that he had spelled to only open by his hand. He knew Daphne wasn’t the only person in his house who liked to snoop and so he endeavored to keep the contents of the notebook secret. He flipped to the most recent page with writing on it.
It seemed Hermione had written in it since his duel with Potter, but that she had trouble putting her thoughts to paper. She had written several sentences only to blot or cross them out to make them illegible. None of her correspondences with him had ever been this sloppy. Finally, at the bottom of the page she had scrawled:
Disregard the above. Obviously if you are reading this you are fine and if you are not… than you will never read this.
Draco felt oddly touched and amused by the note. He ran his fingers over the sentences she had crossed out and wondered what they said. No doubt, something more sentimental… or angry she had deemed ridiculous later. He picked up his quill and opened the bottle of ink on his bedside table.
Oh Granger, I didn’t think you cared.

Later that night Draco lay awake. His healing wound itched terribly and kept him awake despite his weariness.
There was a tapping at the window and he carefully stood to unlatch it. He was startled to see a familiar face hovering outside. He opened the window.
“I thought it might be an owl, but this is much better.”
Hermione climbed over the sill tugging the broomstick in after her.
“And I thought you didn’t like to fly,” Draco murmured, highly amused.
Hermione smoothed her skirt. “I don’t, but it’s only two stories and well… I figured I could handle it.”
For the first time Draco took notice of the broom Hermione had in her hand.
“Merlin! That’s Potter’s Firebolt! How the hell did you get it?”
Hermione smiled smugly. “I guilted him into letting me borrow it,” her face fell and she became nervous. “He… knows about us.”
Draco groaned and sat on his bed. “Oh lovely, that’s all we needed. Wait what does he know exactly?”
“Well he knew I was seeing someone, he just didn’t know who and then when I hit him after he hexed you-“
“You hit Potter?” Draco grinned.
Hermione ran her fingers through her hair. “I was really furious and lost my temper.” She sat on the bed next to him. “And now Harry knows and it’s my fault. I was just- I thought you might not…”
Draco took her hand. “Granger, it’d take more than Potter being an idiot to kill me. Malfoys don’t die in such trivial ways.” He laughed briefly before stopping to wince.
“I bet you aren’t even allowed to sit up yet,” Hermione said huffily as she helped him lay down.
“Not really, they aren’t even going to take the bandages off for another couple of days.”
“You’re just fortunate Professor Snape and Madam Pomfrey have experience healing wounds caused by dark magic. If they weren’t here you could have been killed.”
Hermione was trying to scold but her heart wasn’t in it. She couldn’t resist running her fingers through his hair. He still looked pale and wretched.
“I don’t know what I would have done if you hadn’t-“ She bit her lip, unable to finish the sentence.
Draco sighed dramatically and squeezed her hand, “You would have had to settle for Weasley and hope you could train him to be as fantastic in the sack as I am.”
Hermione laughed in spite of herself. “Oh Draco I missed you.” She bent her head and kissed him gently. Draco moaned softly and his lips parted. Hermione stretched out on the bed next to him as he eased his tongue into her mouth. It had been quite a long week without him.
His hand slid up her body and over her chest. Her back automatically arched as he squeezed. Her body shifted against his and Draco gave and involuntary gasp of pain.
Hermione forced herself to pull away. “You know, if walking is too vigorous then…”
Draco groaned, “I don’t know Granger, I think I have the energy.” He kissed her again more heatedly and Hermione had to sit up to pull away from him.
“If that wound reopens you will be in some serious trouble,” she panted. She smoothed her hair, stood and picked up Harry’s broom.
“Merlin Granger, you can’t waltz in and tease me like that and then leave again.”
Hermione opened the window. Draco sighed as she smirked and placed the broomstick snugly between her thighs.
“I hope you know the moment they release me I am going to tackle you to the ground wherever you happen to be and shag you silly.”
“Well I hope I’m not in Defense Against the Dark Arts. I don’t think shagging in front of Snape sounds all that enjoyable.”
“Oh yeah… by the way, Snape knows.”
“What!?”

Draco buttoned his pajama shirt as Professor Snape and Madam Pomfrey finished examining his freshly un-bandaged chest. It was a couple days after Hermione’s late night visit. He still felt weak, but it was a relief to be free of the bandages.
“There will be a scar, but other than that there shouldn’t be any ill effects.” Madam Pomfrey said.
Snape shook his head, “For about a year you will take a little longer to heal if you are injured near the scar. It takes time for that particular effect to wear off.”
Snape glanced to the side as Poppy went into her office. He brusquely pulled a letter from the sleeve of his robe and handed it to Draco.
Recognizing his family seal on the envelope, he opened it hurriedly.
Draco,
I have written to inform you of my return to England. After a very pleasant time abroad, I was compelled to return home. Your Aunt Bella insisted that I stay with her in the Lestrange Mansion for a while and you know I can never refuse her.
I heard that you are staying in the hospital wing after an injury. Believe that I would come to you if I could but current circumstances do not permit it. Severus assures me that you are well cared for.
Your Aunt has asked if you will be joining us for the summer but I have informed her that you intend to remain at Hogwarts to further your studies. She is not pleased to be denied your company, but I dare say she will endure it.
Let me reassure you that I am quite well. The greatest trial is being separated from you and from your father although I think right now it is for the best.
Your Mother
Draco felt his heart sink as he read the letter. She had warned him this would happen but he still felt downcast. At least she was staying with Aunt Bella so she wouldn’t be treated shabbily. Aunt Bella might be a Death Eater, but if she loved anyone, it was his mother.
“Do you think she’ll be safe?”
“I cannot say for certain Draco. I think everything will remain as it is for now. But the time will come when you will be given a choice to join him or defy him.” Snape said in a low voice. “Everything hinges on that.”
Draco slid the letter in-between the pages of his enchanted notebook where it would be safe. At least he had some time to think. There were still about six weeks left until term ended and summer holiday began. There had to be some way he could keep himself away from the Death Eaters while still making them think he was on their side. There had to be something he could do.

A week later Hermione sat in the restricted section of the library. She was spending much more time here than usual without Draco to distract her. She yawned and glanced at the clock, she really ought to be in bed but there was really too much to do. Aside from studying for end of the year exams, she had a new project she was working on. Harry had recently revealed what he had learned in his more recent visits with Dumbledore and now Hermione was completely absorbed in finding references to Horcruxes.
Every now and then, a book would mention them in passing but never would it go into detail. Hermione suspected there were no longer any books in the school library that went into them in any detail anymore. She knew there was good reason for it but part of her was still irritated that her learning was being restricted.
She shut the dusty book and rested her chin in her hand. It annoyed her that she hadn’t discovered anything Harry hadn’t already told her. She debated asking Draco about them but decided against it. The fewer people who knew about the possibility of Voldemort having multiple horcruxes the better.
She heard careful footfalls in another aisle and picked up her wand. She rose and crept to the end of the row, whoever was foolish enough to be out of bed this time of night in the restricted section obviously-
Hermione nearly squealed with excitement as a familiar head of blond hair turned the corner. She was on him in an instant.
“Merlin Granger, careful or they’ll send me right back to the hospital wing.” He didn’t manage to say anything else before her mouth covered his. She relaxed into his embrace, relishing the familiar scent of his skin. Before she knew it her robe was on the floor and her sweater was over her head.
As Draco peeled off his own shirt, she gasped. A thin black scar ran from beside his navel all the way up to his collarbone. She tentatively traced it with her finger and felt the urge to give Harry another smack.
Draco paid no attention and slid his hand down the front of her trousers. He groaned into her neck as his fingers found her entrance. He had meant to take his time but- that just wasn’t going to happen. She pulled him down to the floor with her, kicking off her pants as she went.
Draco unfastened his pants and slid between her familiar and willing thighs. His vision blurred with pleasure as he entered her and Hermione nearly bit through her lip trying not to scream with enjoyment. It had only been a few weeks but it felt like an eternity since they had been this intimate.
They moved together, eager for climax. Hermione’s orgasm washed over her unexpectedly, her writhing body pulling Draco along with her. They lay together on the floor, damp with sweat, Draco panting a little more heavily than she was. He lay his head down on her breast and groaned.
“I think I may have overdone it a little but that was worth it.”
Hermione moaned softly as he gently played with her nipples, his fingers now well versed in teasing her sensitive flesh.
“Does that mean I get to be on top next?” she said with a grin.
