Chapter 13
Harry had hoped to sneak into the common room without attracting too much attention, but Hermione was waiting for him. She followed him up to the boys' dorm and only stopped when he glared at her beside his bed. “Do you mind, Hermione? Geez... Vulture...”
“Well, is it him? And don't pretend not to know what I'm talking about,” Hermione demanded with a warning tone in her voice.
“Not really your business, is it now?” Harry snapped back, impatiently. He almost managed to keep the nervous look to himself. Hermione's eyes went wide.
“Oh, my god, it is him... No wonder you didn't want me to tell Dumbledore... Harry, do you know how serious this is?” she exclaimed. Harry looked around and silenced her with a deadly look.
“Yes, I am very well aware of how serious it is. And don't think for a second that you're the first one to mention the severity of this particular situation. You're not even the first today. Just remember that you promised to keep your mouth shut,” Harry reminded her. She nodded, but she didn't look the least bit happy about it. “I meant what I said when I told you that he wasn't the one who did this. He wouldn't have in a million years. He knows better. And we're working it out, so, there's no need to involve Dumbledore.”
“If you say so. I still don't like it, Harry.”
“You don't really have to, do you? Now get out. I need to change.” Harry cut off the tirade and turned his back on her.
“Fine, but let him know that he has to be careful. This is a very powerful bonding spell. If he is cruel, it could do more than hurt you, Harry.”
“Got it, thanks. I'm about to get naked now,” Harry said, trying desperately to get rid of her. Finally, she relented and left him alone to change. He was running out of time now to get down to the Quidditch pitch. Snape, who he had never seen at one of his matches since the bond had been put on them, had promised to try and come. For the first time since his first game, Harry was nervous.
He was pulling a shirt over his head, when Ron came bounding into the room. Harry quickly pulled his shirt down to hide his mark. Ron dove over a pile of clothes on the floor to land hard on his belly on Harry's bed. “Hey, how did detention go? I thought about trying to get stuck there with you, but I didn't get a chance. Was he just as grumpy in detention as he was in class?”
Harry managed a laugh. “It was detention, Ron. You know how he gets. He had me cleaning bile out of the first year cauldrons.”
“That's rough. Hey, any idea what's up with Hermione? She's been acting weird ever since Potions,” Ron asked. Harry swallowed hard but shook his head.
“Nope. No idea. Hey, have you seen my left sock? I'm supposed to be down on the pitch in like, five minutes.”
“Isn't that it stuck to your shoulder?” Ron asked. Harry looked at his shoulder and sighed.
“Thanks. Hey, I'll see you after the game, right?” Harry asked as he pulled his shoes on and shrugged into his Quidditch robes. Ron nodded.
“Yeah, sure. Oh, one more thing, before you go... Why'd you tell Hermione that you're gay before you told me?” Ron asked quietly. Harry stopped cold in his tracks, halfway to the door. He looked back at his friend, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, looking hurt.
