Severus watched as Ripper took out a set of keys and unlocked the door to the apartment without any preamble. "You have a set of keys for your slayer's flat?" he asked. He would think that Giles would at least knock first before just walking into the place.
"Actually it is my apartment. She's staying with me," Giles explained while leading the way inside. He shut the door behind them before walking over to the side of stairs. "Faith," he called towards the back of the apartment to her. "Will you come out here please?" He knew from experience that even if she had been asleep she would have woken up at the first sounds of him entering. Faith was a light sleeper even after a heavy night of patrol.
"Really, Ripper, she has to be young enough to be your daughter," Severus admonished his friend. "She's your responsibility. It would be as if I was having an affair with one of my students." He knew that most slayers were in their teenage years and to his knowledge, none had lived past the age of eighteen. Now if the girl had not been his friend's responsibility he would not have had a problem with the two being together. Given the fact that wizards age differently than muggles it wasn't all that unusual to have large age differences between partners.
Giles turned to look at him and then shook his head. "It's not like that at all, Severus. I have a spare room and when she arrived in town, she needed a place to stay. It only made sense for her to do so here."
Faith of course had heard Giles' comment denying anything between them and couldn't help but grin. She schooled her features as she came out of her room to see the two of them. "Hey there," she said in a sultry voice. "You know lover if you wanted a Ménage à trois all you had to do was let me know. You know me, I'm always up for anything," she said with a wink. She reached Giles and slipped her arm about his waist for added effect.
Giles started sputtering and blushing. He was now on the receiving end of the evil eye glare from Severus and at this point really couldn't blame the man after Faith's comments. "Faith! I cannot believe you just said that," he told her even as he removed her arm from about his body. "Severus I swear the two of us are not having any sort of a relationship."
Faith couldn't keep a straight face any longer. She burst out laughing and would have fallen on the floor if she hadn't of leaned against the wall. "Oh don't get your boxers in a bunch," she told them both. "You should have seen your faces. Gods, that was great. He looked like he'd just sucked on a bunch of lemons and you, Giles, had that deer in the headlights look. Oh man, just wait until I tell Xander and Spike tonight. They are going to get such a kick out of it."
"How charming," Severus stated with a slight sneer. He looked over at the young woman standing before him in tight leather pants and a white tank top that revealed far more than it kept hidden thinking that she certainly looked the part of a catamite. "This is your vampire slayer?" He asked hardly impressed with the woman.
Faith's laughter stopped and she went from being very relaxed into a tense offensive position in less than a second. She stepped in front of Giles and looked at this new comer. His accent had been one thing, him knowing what she was the slayer was a totally different thing and her first thought was he was from the Council; sent there to either evaluate her or to arrange to eliminate her like before. "Who the hell are you and what do you want?"
"Faith this is Severus Snape," Giles told her. "He's a very old friend of mine and he is not associated with The Council what so ever. In fact, he has shared some insight with me about The Council that you need to know about. He does not mean any harm to either of us."
Faith gave a slight nod and relaxed. "All right then. Any friend of Giles' is a friend of mine," she said as she held out her hand to him. She was willing to accept the man given Giles' say so and go from there. She also knew that if the man turned on them she would rip him to shreds for it.
"Indeed," Severus said looking at her unsure of what to make of the young woman. Seeing how her attitude and posture had changed, he had been able to see the fierce warrior she was. He knew now not to underestimate her, yet as she relaxed, she hardly looked a threat. In fact, he was sure that aided her in her fight against demons and vampires since they would underestimate her. He shook her hand and then waited to see what would happen.
"Oh relax Grumpy, it was just a joke and since you are a friend I won't bite unless you ask me to. So you have information about The Council," Faith said as she walked into the kitchen to grab a Coke. Coming back out she sat down on the arm of the couch to look at both Giles and Severus. "So what is it? Something juicy I hope."
Giles motioned for Severus to take a seat in the one chair while he continued to stand. Between the two of them, they proceeded to fill Faith in on what Severus knew, not only of The Council but of vampires as well. Giles could see the anger growing in Faith as she took in all that was said. The can of Coke, which had never been open, was currently under a great deal of pressure as Faith squeezed it tight. He couldn't take his eyes off it as the can suddenly exploded and Coke went all over the place.
"Those fucking assholes," Faith growled and threw the can across the room. Even though the can was now empty it still made a dent in the wall as it struck due to the force she threw it with. "All this time it's all been about revenge?" She jumped off the arm of the couch and began to pace about the room. "They put us all through hell for no reason. You, Buffy, Angel, Wesley, me and who knows how many others, just so they could play God. I'm going to kill them." She stopped and looked at Giles. "No, killing is too good for them. I want them to suffer especially Travers. That..that self-righteous political pig. I'm going to truss him up and roast him. After all of his bullshit speeches, we get to find out this? He wanted to kill me and have the next slayer called because I made a mistake while they were sitting on this information and knew we were taking innocent lives? It has to stop Giles. I don't care what we have to do we have to stop it."
Giles walked over to Faith. Gently placing his hands on her shoulders, he looked down at her. "Is that really what you want to do Faith?" he asked her. "Kill or torture them all?" Although he did understand the sentiments behind the words he needed to make sure she did not mean them literally. He did not think she did and that they were only spoken in the heat of the moment, which he had thought of himself, so couldn't blame her for either.
"Yes," Faith ground out. She then took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "No," she said after a moment. "I'm better than that and I'm not that person anymore, but I still reserve the right to kick Travers so hard that the doctor thinks his nuts are his tonsils," she stated only to see both Giles and Severus wince.
"How creatively colorful," Severus stated. He was sure that this Travers must be the current head of The Council. He was sure the man would not know what had hit him once Ripper and his slayer arrived there. He was also sure that he did not pity the man what so ever.
"That is one thing I can say about Faith she is colorful," Giles said with a grin. "We will make sure it stops Faith. First, we must go see Angel and Wesley. Angel has to do a ritual that Severus knows that will anchor his soul as well as the souls of anyone else in his order. In addition, Severus and others with him need to talk with Wesley about soul bounds. I shall explain as we pack all right?"
Faith nodded. "Shouldn't take me long. I'm not the clothes horse B was," she stated. She felt a bit sad talking about her sister slayer, however each time the pain was a bit less than the time before. She moved to head to her room knowing that her few things would pack up into her duffel bag quickly enough. She could then join Giles in his room to hear the further explanations.
"Sev, please make yourself at home," Giles told his friend. He headed up the stairs to go to his room. He thought about what he would need and decided not to pack too much considering he knew if he went into wizarding London at all he would need all together different clothes for that, which he didn't have currently. Those he would have to get there. Still he would need enough to muddle through for at least a week or two so began to work on that. Since he had his wand out of mothballs, so to speak, he decided he might as well get re-used to using magic and started packing that way.
Walking into the bedroom to see the clothes folding and packing themselves Faith just lifted an eyebrow. "Giles, you have some major explaining to do," she told him. She set her duffel bag down and leaned against the wall to listen to all he had to tell her.
Severus made his way into the kitchen as he waited for Ripper and his slayer to come back. He had to admit this slayer was older than any he had heard of before. She was obviously beyond her teen years. He was more than a little curious as to how she had managed to survive so long. He found the tea easily enough. Although it had been many years, he did know how to use a muggle stove so he quickly had some brewing for himself. He knew he still had to tell Ripper about Dumbledore. He wasn't sure how his friend would take that news. Back when they had been in school together everyone had looked up to the man. Hell, he knew they still did. He just hoped that Ripper would believe him and perhaps he could give them some assistance in fighting against both Dumbledore and Voldemort. He knew his friend had to take on The Council, however he was hoping for even just some advice on how to handle the situation. It was volatile situation at best and he knew it could all blow up in their faces.
Sipping his tea Severus knew far too much centered on Harry. They would have to find his soul-bond and release his magic. Only at full force could he ever hope to face either Voldemort or Dumbledore and win. The boy had been extremely lucky so far. Severus had no clue why Harry had managed to survive to date, but luck only lasted so long. Eventually it would run out and when it did, he did not want Harry to lose. He couldn't bear to think of losing Harry now. He had begun to care for him like a son; not that he would ever tell Harry that. He was not one to share such emotions with people. He'd learned to be very stoical even at a young age. He knew it was probably one of the reasons he had never had many friends growing up and why Lily had never saw him as more than that. Sighing softly he pushed those thoughts to the back knowing that such things were better left in the past. He could not change what had happened only move forward and hope to learn from his mistakes. Hearing the footsteps on the stairs, he looked up from his tea to see Giles and Faith come down without any luggage. He did note, however, that Giles had his wand in hand. "Becoming reacquainted with doing magic again Ripper?"
"That I have," Giles stated. "It seems I have not forgotten all that I have learned for I was able to pack my things and shrink our luggage without mishap. I see you were able to find the tea as well."
"It was totally cool," Faith stated. "So much better than they showed in 'The Sword and the Stone'. You are definitely going to have to give me the 411 on all you can do with that stick of yours. It's obvious you have been holding out us," she said with a wink.
Severus sighed not sure what to make of Faith and her comments. "Yes I found the tea. What I had this morning in the restaurant in town did not come close to passing as such. I do not know how you have managed to survive over here for so long Ripper."
"By making my own," Giles said totally ignoring Faith's comments since he was accustomed to her innuendos. He gave his wand a wave setting the apartment to rights and having it completely clean for whenever he came back. "We should be heading back to the Magic Box. I still have to make the portkey to take us to the Hyperion before the others meet back up with us."
"Of course," Severus agreed moving to walk with them. "I also have more to tell you of what has been happening recently in our world. The Dark Lord is not the only enemy we have at this time. We also have Albus Dumbledore against us. I know it seems difficult to believe since he has always been a leader of the light yet what I have learned in the past week makes me believe he may be even more dangerous than The Dark Lord." As they walked back to the Magic Box he explained what all they had learned about Dumbledore. He only told them the facts they knew and not the theories at this point. He started with how they had discovered proof that he had known of Black's innocence, had blocked the Potter's will, and had set up the payments to The Dark Lord. He could see the disbelief in Giles' eyes at hearing all of it even as he continued with how Dumbledore had put and kept Harry in an abusive home, had paid others to spy and manipulate Harry, and of course how Dumbledore had kept Black on the run. He brought up the marriage contract Dumbledore had tried to arrange for Harry and of course the blocks on Harry's magic. It was this last where he could see the disbelief fade away to shock and disgust.
"Good lord," Giles said once it all really sunk in. They had reached the Magic Shop and were in the back once more. He had been searching for an appropriate item to make into a portkey as he listened to Severus. Now, though, he stopped and cleaned his glasses as he thought about what all he'd said. To think of that man having free reign over the students of Hogwarts, to be able to mold any of them in a way he wanted, gods what damage could the man have done? He wondered.
"Who exactly is this Dumbledore dude to you guys?" Faith asked. She could tell that Giles knew him and obviously, he was important in this wizarding world however, she hadn't been able to tell exactly from their talking where he fit into things. She knew it was probably because she was the "outsider" between them and they hadn't bothered to mention things at the time.
"Faith among other things he's the headmaster of the school I told you about that trains wizards and witches," Giles explained. "He's also head of the Wizengmont which is a ruling body of sorts. It's a bit more complicated to explain since there isn't an exact duplicate in the non-magical world that I can point to for an example. It works as a combination to not only create laws, but also as judges in the courts. There are two sections to it; the one section is hereditary seats while the other is by appointment from the Minister of Magic. I do apologize," he stated when he heard Severus clear his throat; "I'm getting off topic. Dumbledore is the head of that which is an appointed seat. He is also appointed to the International Confederation of Wizards, think of that as a wizarding equivalent of the United Nations. He is highly thought of and to even attempt to take him on most would see us as the bad guys."
"I see you are talking about Dumbledore," Xander said as Harry and he entered the room. "Harry filled me in. It seems this Dumbledore is like Mr. Big; he hides behind a lot of layers and minions while appearing to be this great guy. We have to find some way to expose him for what he is."
"Mr. Big?" Harry asked not understanding the reference at all.
"He's from the comic books. He was a criminal thug, but what no one knew was he was really this business man that everyone knew," Xander explained. "No one ever suspected him, kind of like this Dumbledore. Those that have suspected him I bet have disappeared or became the villain in town."
"Like Sirius," Harry said more to himself. "We'll have to play things close to the chest then until we can make sure that he cannot stop us." He did not want to think of any of his friends getting hurt or ending up in Azkaban due to anyone thinking they were a dark wizard just because they disagreed with Dumbledore. They would have to tread carefully with any plans they made. He had realized that before really it just seemed to come home more now after Xander's comment. Thinking about Dumbledore Harry's thoughts went back to the prophecy. He turned to look at Giles. "Mr. Giles, I was curious about something and I was hoping you could help me with it. I'm actually wondering about the prophecy that connects Voldemort and me."
"Please call me Giles or Rupert if you prefer," Giles told him. "From what you stated the copy of it that was at the Department of Mysteries was destroyed was it not" he asked and saw Harry nod. "So, no one knows exactly what it stated unless of course it's in Merlin's Codex?"
"Yes and no," Harry stated and then went on to explain. "You see, Dumbledore was there when the prophecy happened. Severus over heard part of it as well from what I understand. Professor Trewlawny made the prediction during her interview for a position to teach at Hogwarts. Dumbledore showed me the memory of the event, however since he is no longer someone we can trust I do not know how accurate the memory or the prophecy he showed me is."
"Harry, when he put the memory in the pensieve was it from his head, a flask, or a memory ball?" Snape asked. He remembered well the night he'd over heard that one part and he regretted to this day that he'd told the dark lord what he had heard. He knew nothing he did could ever make up for betraying Lily the way he had.
"It was from his head. I had never seen a memory ball until you gave one to Mr. Wells," Harry admitted wondering what the difference was between where the memory was held. He didn't have to ask as Severus explained immediately.
"There is very little difference in the items except a memory ball requires an oath by the witch or wizard that guarantees that the memory to be held is the truth. Without that oath in place a pensieve can be tricked or edited to display whatever the person wants to show. If the person has enough skill one would not be able to detect a false memory."
"Lord Potter," Giles started to say only to have Harry correct him and tell him to call him Harry. "Harry then, you said this prophecy was made by Trewlawny and it was made before you were born I take it?" he asked as he flipped through the book towards the rear of it since it would have been one of the later prophecies.
"Yes just a few months before I was born," Harry stated. "The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches ... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies ... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not ... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives ... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies ... That's the prophecy that Dumbledore showed me," he explained.
"That's a hell of a thing to lay on a kid," Spike said as Draco and he joined the group. They had come in just in time to hear the last part of the discussion and to hear the prophecy. He didn't exactly think too highly of whomever told Harry that it came down to Voldemort or him to live or die. Kids should have a chance to enjoy life without such pressures. It was like Dawn all over again. The weight of the world laid on the shoulders of a teenager. The PTB's really were messed up in his opinion. Why couldn't they ever make it for someone who was well seasoned and could handle such things?
"So you really are the chosen one?" Draco asked as he came over to stand near Harry worry laced his voice. The wizarding world suspected that it all came down to Harry versus Voldemort, but to hear it put in such words sent ice through his veins. How could Harry hope to defeat Voldemort?
"I don't know if that prophecy is accurate or even the true one," Harry explained. "That's what Dumbledore told me it was. Giles is going to look it up for me to see if it's in his book. If it is, we go from there," he added trying to appear blasé about it but in truth he was scared that it would come down to him or Voldemort and he could not figure out how he could hope to win against someone so powerful. He knew the only reasons he'd won so far had been chance and luck. The next time he might not have those on his side.
"Mmm," Giles muttered as he flipped through and then found the right page. Reading over the prophecy his eyes grew larger, "Dear lord," he muttered. He closed the book without letting them see what he had seen. "I think we should read this over once we are with Wesley and Angel," he told them.
"Giles, with all due respect if it pertains to me I would rather know it now," Harry stated. He figured how bad could it be after all considering what he'd already been told by Dumbledore.
"It doesn't just concern you Harry," Giles told him. "It does, though, I think, explain the soul-bonds that are upon you and Xander." He had taken off his glasses and had begun cleaning them as he thought how best to deal with this. "The prophecy is very similar to what you were told, however parts of it were edited out. It is that section that I would rather wait to discuss until we are in LA. I would like Wesley's input on it."
Xander saw that Harry was about to argue and stopped him. "Harry, might as well wait until we get to Wesley. Giles can be very stubborn and if that port thingy works as fast as he said we'll be there in minutes right? So no big delay going on," he pointed out. "I think we're all set. Let's get with the beaming over. Faith are you coming with us?" he asked having noticed her there. She was somewhat hard to miss after all.
"Yep, I am," Faith told him with a slight smile. "He's filled me in and I think me going with you is where I need to be. Oh and I promise when I punch Travers I'll get a photo of it somehow or another," she added with a wink and could see Xander grin in return.
Giles used his wand to shrink the book and then slip it into his breast pocket. He'd made one of the battle staffs into a portkey, which he now picked up; he held it at the center and looked at everyone. "I made this into the portkey," he told them. "Everyone take hold and we shall leave." He watched carefully to make sure that everyone had taken a firm hold before activating it. Although it had been many years since he had used a portkey Giles recognized the sensations of being pulled through and spun about while being teleported to the Hyperion. Landing with only a wobble, he managed to keep to his feet the same as Severus, Draco, Faith and Spike where as Harry and Xander landed on the floor of the hotel. He reached out to help Xander up noting that Draco did the same for Harry.
"I don't think I shall ever get used to those things," Harry muttered as he stood up. He always seemed to land on the ground and never standing up right. He was beginning to think there was some trick to it that he wasn't privy to. "Thanks Draco," he told him with a smile glad for the assist in getting up.
"Okay that was nothing like I thought it would be," Xander said as Giles helped him up. "Man, that was...weird," he finally said not sure if that was even the right word for it. He doubted it would ever be his favorite form of travel even if it was a fast way of getting from one point to another. It had felt like he'd been turned inside out during the travel.
"You get used to it mate," Spike said. "Just part of life as a wizard, at least until you learn to aparate. So where is the brood miester? I thought he was going to be here?" he asked having figured Angel would be there to meet them when they arrived. Looking around the place he couldn't see anyone about and he couldn't hear anyone either, so, he had to wonder where the welcoming committee was.
"It is possible they are out still hunting the demon Wesley mentioned," Giles stated as he too noted how empty the area was. He was a bit surprised that no one was there for he was sure that Cordelia at least would have been there when they had arrived.
"I know you wanted to wait, but since we have no idea when they will get back perhaps you can show us the prophecy now," Harry said. Now that he knew that the prophecy was different than what Dumbledore had told him, he wanted to know what the true one was. On top of that if it showed what the bond meant it would really be helpful, although he had to wonder if it would be that clear to him. Hearing the front doors open he brought his wand out at the same time Severus and Draco did just to see two men enter.
Angel sighed as he spotted Spike. "You really did bring him," he said to Giles. "I was hoping you were joking on that part." He noticed the wands pointed in his direction and just cocked his head slightly. "It's just Wesley and I. Since we weren't sure on the situation we sent everyone else out for the night. I thought it was safer that way just in case," he explained as he continued to walk forward. He nodded to Faith, glad to see her again. "Wesley filled me in on what you told him Giles. If it's true that there is a ritual that can bind my soul permanently you know I will do it."
"I give you my word that the ritual is real," Severus stated to him. Looking at the famed vampire he knew this was not what he had been expecting. He had been expecting someone fierce and violent looking; not someone who seemed so young and full of emotion. This being in front of him did not inspire thoughts of the Scourge of Europe.
"Angel this is Severus," Giles said and then went on to introduce everyone else. "Wesley, I might have stumbled upon what type of soul-bond that Harry and Xander have. As I mentioned there is a prophecy between Harry and the Dark Lord Voldemort, I was verifying it and within its words the bond is mentioned."
"Really? You found it then in Merlin's Codex? i had wondered about that," Wesley said as he led the way towards the area where they did most of the research at and he knew they could all sit. "I was hoping to get a look at the book when you mentioned you had obtained it. I have to admit ever since I first heard of the book back when I was at Hogwarts I had always wanted to take a gander at it. I never thought I would get the chance." He pulled out a chair for Giles and then one for himself almost forgetting that there was anyone else with them as he thought about the book in question. "Have you had a chance to look through it to see if there is anything that pertains to Angel or what would be considered our group here?"
"I only just received it this morning," Giles said as he sat down. He took out the book and put it back to normal before setting it on the table. "Besides a few pages the only thing I have looked up is the prophecy that Harry had mentioned. I believe it pertains to Harry, Xander and their soul mates not to mention Voldemort. It seems fairly straight forward, which for a prophecy I admit is unusual." He flipped open the book and turned it to the page so that Wesley could read over the prophecy.
Wesley pulled the book a bit closer as he read the passage. He read it over twice to make sure he had read it right. "Oh I must say," he muttered as he looked up from it. "This is the subject of legend. There hasn't been a case of this since the founders and even that we cannot be sure of; its conjecture, myth without any certainty what so ever. There is so little known about such beings."
"I know," Giles stated. "That is why I wanted to wait until we were here with you to discuss such information. I know that such beings need bond mates; however I am a bit foggy on their history. I am hoping you know more about them than I do due to your research into soul-bonds and mates."
"Uh guys, hate to interrupt, but you are kind of scaring us here," Xander said indicating the rest of the group that was listening in on their conversation. "Well scaring might be a bit strong so let me just say you are freaking us out okay. You want to share with the rest of the class." He had no idea who the founders were or how far back in history that was. He figured it was a wizarding comment. The rest though didn't make any more sense either so he was a bit on edge as Giles did say the prophecy pertained to him.
"Just tell us what the prophecy states," Harry said feeling his stomach tie in knots with what all Giles and Wesley were saying. What exactly was he? he wondered. Obviously something they didn't know a lot about and something that hadn't been seen in a long time. He had to wonder if that was good or bad.
Looking over at the group Giles realized he should have handled that a bit better. "Yes, of course. Well the memory that Dumbledore showed you was very similar, nonetheless, it would appear that he did not show you the true memory of the event. Here is the correct prophecy that was given that day by a Sybill Trelawney, 'The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches ... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies ... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not ... for he shall be a bonded thaumaturge paired with a mirrored set; together they shall bring back the old ways.... Descendants from the founders these four shall band together as one and they shall cleanse our world of evil... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lords will be born as the seventh month dies ...' Although it is vague in some of the details it is very clear in other aspects especially the fact that you two are thaumaturge."
"What the bloody hell is a thaumaturge?" Draco asked. He had never heard the term and he doubted Harry had either because he could tell the other youth had been about to ask the same question. He glanced over at his godfather and could see a stunned, shocked look on his face. He glanced over the other way towards Spike and saw a similar look so obviously they knew what this term was. He glanced over at Faith and she looked as confused as he felt as did Angel so he felt a bit better knowing it wasn't just Harry, Xander and him in the dark.
"Language Draco," Severus stated more out of habit than anything else at this point. He couldn't believe his ears that Harry and Xander were thaumaturge. He had heard of them of course in his magical creature class or perhaps it was defense against the dark arts, now he wasn't sure which class it was, it was just too far back to remember so little given about such beings.
"A thaumaturge is a very powerful being. The last suspected one was one of the founders of Hogwarts and no we don't know which one. It is suspected one of them was, especially given when one considers the magic involved in the creation and maintenance involved with the building for the school. It's rumored, however, no documentation or proof of any kind has been found to support that information. A thaumaturge from what we understand can access and manipulate magic directly so they need a bond mate to stabilize them since their magic is fueled by their emotions more so than most wizards or witches. Legends tell us that they tend to be easy to get an emotional response from. Legend has it that the few who had something happen to their bond mates have caused horrible disasters to occur due to their instability. Pompeii is one such disaster that has been attributed to a thaumaturge. The legend states that her bond mate was kidnapped, tortured and imprison on a false charge to then die within the prison walls. She became unstable and caused the volcano to erupt killing those who took him from her."
"What do you mean by accessing and manipulating magic directly?" Xander asked. He had to wonder how that was different from what they would do normally.
"Normally a witch or a wizard uses a focus of some sort to channel the magic to make it do what we want it to do," Severus explained. "No matter what type of witch or wizard we use a wand, a spell, a ritual, or even a potion to direct the magic and make it do what we want it to. A few now and then manage to get to where they don't have to for a couple of minor things however a thaumaturge is said not to need such devices for most magic. It is just sheer thought or will."
"For most magic? Will it be enough?" Harry asked. He didn't want to be different. He hated sticking out now and by the sounds of it, he would be with this thing unless he pretended to use spells and a wand all the time. The only good thing he could see coming from it was if he had enough power to stop Voldemort and Dumbledore.
"It should, with training," Severus told him. "Harry, power alone isn't the point. You will have to learn how to control that power and how best to use it. We also know that we cannot just have a duel with Dumbledore. That fight is more than just a physical one. We will have to take our time with this and take each step slowly. The first step of course we have to find your soul-mate."
"I can help with that," Wesley told them. "It's a simple enough spell. It reveals the name of your soul-mate. The problem then of course is finding them," he added his voice sounding a bit bitter.
"Sounds as if you speak from personal experience," Draco said to him. "Why is it you know so much about soul-bonds anyway?" he asked, his curiosity getting the better of him now. He wasn't surprised that Harry was going to be this powerful being since he'd seen how strong he was already. He just hated the thought that Harry had a soul-mate out there and it wasn't him.
"Because I have creature inheritance in my bloodline," Wesley said with a shrug. "Two actually, Fae and Elvin and because of it I actually have two soul-bonds which is rare. I know the names of my bond mates; they are related to each other, which is not that unusual really when one has more than one bond mate, however I have yet to find them. I have to assume they had not reached majority before I left for the states. Their names sounded English; of course I could have been wrong on that fact. In either case until I find my soul-mates and bond with them I will never achieve my full powers nor will I ever feel fully complete. When I learned I had two soul-mates I began to study soul-bonds and how to find your soul-mates. Most creature inheritances find them through scents or pheromones once they reach majority or seventeen. There are also other indicators of emotional nature that help assist in this, feelings of safety or protectiveness, possessiveness, jealousy, and so on. These though only help if one is in the vicinity of their soul-mate. I wanted to find out if there were ways to locate them if they were in other countries or not of age yet. I was able to find the spell to give the name, however that was it. Without more than a name even scrying for them is almost impossible."
"If you don't mind me asking what are the names of your soul-mates?" Harry asked. He didn't know why he'd asked the man that. He really had no business in doing so. He just had this gut feeling he should. Something inside was pushing him to ask and that there was a reason for it.
Wesley looked at him for a second before responding not sure why Harry had asked or why he was even bothering answering. He had pretty much given up on ever finding his soul-mates by now. "Fred and George Weasley," he stated. He could see the recognition in their eyes and for the first time in years he felt hope flare within him. "You know them? You do, don't you or at least of them. Please, tell me."
"Yes, I know them," Harry said with a big grin. "You could say they are my adoptive big brothers." He could see the man before him come to life. His eyes lighting up as he learned that his soul-mates were now within reach.
Everyone gasped as the room suddenly was a blaze with red and gold fire as the phoenix flew in to the room and around it. Angel and Spike ducked down low a bit leery of being hit by any of the firebird since it could turn them into dust within an instant. The Sunnydale crowd watched in awe as it spun about the room before settling onto the table while the London group watched with concern since they recognized this phoenix as it being the bonded familiar to Dumbledore.
Fawkes walked towards the one he intended to bond with. He let out several beautiful notes of music as he explained what had happened and why he was there. He cocked his head and waited to see what his answer would be.
"He's left Dumbledore, severing the bond. He...he wants to bond with me and be my familiar," Severus said in total shock as he sat back in the chair staring at the phoenix as if it had gone barmy.
