Chapter 13
“We need a signal of some kind that PJ can send off if Ginny starts on him,” Sirius said, looking at Remus after taking a sip of his tea. “She's pushing it. And I doubt what was in the paper is going to calm her down.” Stopping, he shook his head and added, tone weary, “She's unnerving him at this point.”
“I don't blame you there, PJ,” Remus snorted. “She's—the looks are enough to unnerve anyone. Even you saying something isn't helping, Sirius.”“Which is why I want a spell to send off if she's causing problems,” PJ told him. “If she does, I don't want to end up looking like the bad guy in it. I'm sure that's what it'll come to if she does. And the phones are out for it. So, I need some kind of spell I can cast to let Sirius know.”“Let me think,” Remus sighed, rubbing a hand over his mouth. “There should be something we can come up with that you can use. I'm just not sure what. The Patronus is out, obviously, as that would be too big of a signal and let everyone know there is a problem, then they would head that way.”“With as many people that are in and out now because of this mess, we want something as quick as we can find it,” Sirius explained, tossing some small pieces of his biscuit to Poe, who was perched on PJ's shoulder, rapping and tapping, happy with the treat.“If we could get Poe to come in and just fly around or something, that would be perfect. He's known to do that,” Remus told the two, looking between them. “No one would think it odd either.” Focusing on PJ, he asked, “Is there any way to send him off to do that? He usually is there when you come in. I assume that's when the biggest of the problems will come up.”Thinking it over, PJ gave a slow nod. “Maybe. Let me see if he still does it. It's been a while since we mucked about with this spell.” Producing his wand, he cast a joke charm that made something similar to a ghost-like image of a raven. Sending it off to fly around the room, he looked at Poe, who was on full alert, then waited to see what the barmy bird would do.Quickly, Poe was off his shoulder, chasing the ghost-like figure, cawing loudly and talking faster than normal. In fact, he seemed like he was having fun doing it.“That could work well,” Sirius said, eyes locked on the ghost-like bird while Poe chased it as PJ guided it along. “If you can send that in my direction and get him to follow, I'll know there's a problem.”Canceling the spell, he waited for Poe to come perch back on his shoulder. Grinning at the obviously excited bird, he said, “I think I can do that.” Looking at the batty bird, he said, “When I send the fake raven, you go to Sirius. Can you do that?”Feathers puffing out, wings outstretched, the raven let out a few hearty caws then did the rapid-fire rapping, tapping and nevermore-ing bit before clicking his beak rapidly.Knowing what that meant, PJ nodded, “He'll do it. I'll make sure to send it wherever you are.”Tossing the intent looking bird a few more pieces of his biscuit, something the bird caught deftly, Sirius nodded. “We'll go with that. If I'm not around, though that's unlikely, send it to Remus. He'll take care of it.” Seeing a determined nod from his friend, Sirius added, “This makes me feel better. Ginny's not going to let up.”“I'll get with Bill this week to see what I can manage,” Remus told him with a sad shake of his head. “It might be better if it comes from me. I'm not sure what he can do, but he'll at least try.” Looking at PJ, who was petting the raven that hopped off his shoulder and was perching in his lap, he continued “At the very least, we'll see if Bill can figure out a way so she doesn't get you alone. The ogling—I'm not sure what we can do there.”“That's enough to make my skin crawl, honestly,” PJ told him, shivering a little.“I can see where it would,” Remus admitted, looking down and shaking his head in a sad way.“From this point on, I'm snarling, loudly, when she starts that shite. It needs to stop, now.” Sirius added, voice taking a hard edge. “I've tried being nice about it. Nice has stopped. We move to the next stage. And that is me doing it in front of everyone, including her parents.”“That might be what it takes to get her to stop,” the werewolf said with a shrug. “Nothing else has worked at this juncture. We all could tell you were doing it in a joking manner, but it was also in response to her actions. It's not changed anything. I think the time to embarrass her is here.”“I will, loudly,” Sirius assured him.Figuring that was all that needed to be said on that topic, PJ fished a letter out of his pocket he had received that morning from his publisher. “There's something else I need to prepare you for. It's not a lock, but they are trying.” Seeing the two look at him, he opened the letter and said, “My publisher is going to try to get me to do a book signing at Flourish and Blotts. That interview I did was carried by a couple of the weekly papers here in the UK and generated some interest. I have another interview next week that will as well. They hope that piques enough curiosity that the bookstore will agree. They're on the fence about it because of what I write.” Looking between the two, he said, “The advanced reviews of the book are really good from what they say and they want to push it here. As I was born in the UK, they think they can manage.” Shrugging, he pushed the letter to Sirius the added, “It'll be good for me to build a base here. With what's going on, though, I figured you would need advance warning so we can set up something for protection. I don't know how long we have until it comes out about Sirius and me.”Quickly skimming the letter before passing it to Remus, Sirius told his godson, “We'll bring this up at the meeting tonight. It's not a sure-fire bet yet, I get that, but I think its best that more than the two of us take on keeping watch. That we need to give fair warning for. We'll come up with something.”“We will,” Remus agreed with a smile after putting the letter down and pushing it back to PJ. “Everyone will understand what an opportunity it will be for you to take something like this on. I'm certain we'll have several volunteers to help. That and Alastor can come up with some kind of plan that will keep you safest.”Picking the letter back up, Sirius read it more thoroughly, grinning a bit as he got towards the bottom. “They think because you're good looking that it might attract some of the ladies? That's a bit odd for someone to say, isn't it?”Rolling his eyes, PJ groaned. “No,” he groused, looking sour. Shifting uncomfortably in his seat, he explained, shaking his head as he did, “They do that bit and know that it appeals to some. Look at that idiot Lockhart. His publisher played on his looks and it worked. It appears they'll play that card with me as well since the next interview will go in the papers or magazines that cater to women.” Snorting, he added, “I hate it, alright? I want that clear. They go with what they know works, though. And, in some cases, this does.”Chuckling softly, looking amused, Remus told him, “You go with what grabs attention. If this does, I can see why they would use it.”“Blimey, I would rather be known for what I write than how I look,” PJ said, tone exasperated.“It gives you a foot in the door here,” Sirius snickered, pushing the letter back. “Besides, when it does come out about us, something we all know is coming, it'll shore up what everyone knows and won't look odd. That will help in the long run.”“Doesn't mean I have to like it,” PJ huffed, slouching. “T is going to be entirely too amused for my liking. I won't live it down anytime soon!”Laughing, Sirius clapped him on the back a couple times, “You won't with us either! I'm warning you of that now.”“Bloody wonderful,” PJ moaned, shaking his head, but grinning while he did. After that, he switched topics to the plans for the night. As there was another meeting, he planned to vacate the premises for the duration or until it was going good then take a nap or something. Either way, he didn't want to come back until it was in high gear so he wasn't annoyed. That was a plan they all agreed would work well.
After the meeting convened, before they launched into what they were there for, increased Death Eater activity, Sirius jumped in. Looking around, he said, “We have something possibly coming up that we're going to need help with.” Quickly, he ran through what PJ told them about earlier. When he finished, he said, “He's not sure, I'll put that out there now, but the letter we read from his publisher makes it clear they want to try. And if it's Flourish and Blotts, it's going to end up highly publicized, even in the Prophet. We wanted to see about getting something in place ahead of time so we know what we're doing. Remus and I will stick close to him, of course, but all of us think it's better to have more bodies there, both inside and out, if it does happen.”
“This is something we need to plan for,” Albus admitted with a nod. Looking at Moody, he asked, “Can you come up with some kind of a plan that they can use to help protect PJ? It's hard to prepare for, I know this, but we aren't sure what will come out between now and then.”“I will,” Moody told him with a nod. “I know the layout of the store well, so I can figure out a plan we can use. Once we have a confirmation and date, we'll need some volunteers to help. We'll find a way. That and I'll get with the store ahead of time to see what we can do with them to make sure he stays safe. They have to know that times are dangerous and extra protection would be called for.”“Does he have any idea if this will happen or is it just talk?” Bill asked, looking at Sirius.“From the letter we read from his publisher, it sounds like it's something they want to push. They already have feelers out to the store about it. The store is on the fence, but they're hoping to push them enough that they agree. I do feel it's something we need to plan for,” Remus explained, looking around.“PJ wouldn't have mentioned it if there wasn't a good chance.” Sirius added. “He has another interview coming up that they think will end up being the deciding factor. From what we saw, it's something they want to happen and are going to do what they can to ensure it. He is from the UK, something they like to spotlight at Flourish and Blotts as we know. We just want as much in place as we can get, even if it's a maybe. That way we aren't scrambling to come up with something at the last minute as we have no clue how much notice we'll get if it does happen.”“I'll sit down in the next couple days and come up with a plan,” Alastor assured him. Looking around, he added, “I'll also start lining up volunteers for this. Though Tonks and Kingsley would be perfect, I'd rather go with others that are more innocuous. Get with me if it's something you think you can do or want to. That way I know what I'm doing because some of you are better at various areas than others.”“PJ does know you're planning for this, doesn't he?” Albus asked Sirius gently. “We don't want him upset as I'm sure he's used to going about such matters in a different way.”“He knows,” Sirius assured. “In fact, he's the one that brought it up to us. I've made it as clear to him as I can how dangerous it is being attached to me. He's taking that very seriously because he knows what it can mean and the target it might paint on his back.”“Good. We don't want him upset. Assure him from all of us that we'll be as unobtrusive as we can when it comes to protecting him if he does take on such events,” Albus imparted. “Alastor can assure that.”“I will,” the retired Auror confirmed. “I'll get with him ahead of time so he knows what we're planning, what to do and all the other issues. One of the things I'll promise him is that we'll make the whole production as easy as we can on him.”“I'll pass that along,” Sirius told him, pleased that they were considering how rough it was on his very independent godson.“I'll let Alastor get with all of you this week to work something out,” Albus told them then pressed on. Shuffling the parchments in front of him, he sighed, “We have plenty of matters to discuss. Death Eater activity has increased, as we expected, and the signs seem to point to Tom making some kind of big move. What that is, we don't know. Severus is trying to get us some clues we can, maybe, piece together, but even he isn't sure what he can manage. What we do know is some higher ranking members of the Ministry seem like they were targets. Two died this week under very mysterious circumstances. One was in the DMLE, someone that worked as a liaison between the DMLE itself and the Aurors. The other was a top ranking official close to Fudge. I don't think anyone sees this as a coincidence, even those in the Ministry. Our contacts tell us they are looking at it as being related to Tom's followers.”Stopping there, he gave a tiny smile then added, sounding pleased, “Lucius Malfoy has been put on administrative leave because of that article. The oversight office wants to know one way or another if it's true. The same with a couple others mentioned. St. Mungos, Gringotts and a few other institutions have done the same with ones employed there. I do believe that's a good sign and tells us many seem like they are taking this very seriously, unlike the last war.” Then he began to launch in and discuss what they did know or what others had managed to find out. As it was a long and complicated mess, he knew it would take a while.
Looking up when he heard Poe do his normal bit, though trying to pay attention to what was said as it was important, Sirius nodded, relieved. That meant PJ was back. Good. He had called not long ago saying he was finished at the gym, so he was going to grab something to eat then come home, so Sirius knew he was safe. It was just a relief that he was back, nothing more. All Albus was imparting wasn't anything good and had him more on edge than normal. No, no one had any hint that PJ was attached to him yet, at least that they could tell, but you never knew. Plus, there was the issue of the fools that had been in the park before. Though those two hadn't shown back up, a few others they knew were allied with the other side had. That had him heavily on edge as well, especially when it came to PJ coming in.
Focusing back on the meeting, as Albus was talking to him, he didn't realize that Ginny wasn't back from the loo yet. She had left a few minutes before he heard Poe and had yet to return.
Looking up as he heard a noise after tossing Poe a couple jelly beans, PJ gave an internal groan when he saw Ginny standing there. Alright, he didn't like this. All he hoped was he could safely exit. Sirius had told him the meeting they were in was huge and something they all had to be there for as most of what was coming out was important. Nodding to her, he said, addressing the bird on his shoulder, “Come on, Poe, you can take a shower with me.” That was something the bird liked to do for whatever reason. Oh, he didn't sit on his shoulder or anything that had him in the main spray from the shower, but he liked to perch on one of the places in there to catch some of the mist from it.
“He takes a shower with you?” Ginny asked, stepping closer, chuckling. “That's odd, isn't it?”“He's an odd bird,” PJ shrugged backing away. Already she was starting to unnerve him with the look on her face and he didn't want her to get too close. Clearing his throat nervously, he said, “I'm going to go get a shower. Sirius said you lot are busy, so you probably need to get back to the meeting.”Advancing closer, smiling, Ginny told him, “It can wait a few minutes. We haven't had time to talk alone yet, so we can spare a few to do that.” PJ was someone she found dead sexy. Though he and Sirius, both, made it clear he was gay, she couldn't resist. She had to try, all there was to it. Besides, it was a waste for someone this sexy to only fancy men. “I can't believe you're gay! I mean, you had to have been with a woman just once. Maybe you just haven't found the right one is all.”This wasn't good. Still backing up, PJ snorted. That was a line that was overused, that's for damned sure. He'd heard it plenty over the years when it came to friends of his and people trying to get them to change their orientation. “Not interested, sorry,” he said, backing up more. Shaking his head, he added, “You can't change someone's orientation. Besides, I'm just not interested. Sirius is someone I adore and like being with. If I didn't, I would have left the country again.” He told her, doubting it would do any good. It was then that he began to curse internally as he backed straight into a wall. Dammit! He should have been paying attention to what he was doing. Now she had him slightly trapped. A quick glance told him which way he needed to go to get out of her clutches and head towards the stairs. That he planned to do. “You better get back to the meeting, luv. I need to get a shower. I don't like being all stinky and sweaty.”“Oh, I don't know, I think you smell great,” Ginny smiled bigger. “I just want to talk, PJ, nothing more.”“And you have a meeting to get back to. Maybe some other time,” PJ told her, doubting that would work, though.“It'll be fine,” she reassured him, smile growing. As busy as everyone was, she doubted that she would be missed. Especially since the area they were talking about was one she wasn't needed for. Putting a hand on PJ's bare abs, something showing because of the half shirt he was wearing, she observed, “You really do work out! I mean, I knew you went to the gym, but this is nice.”And that was all he could take. Sending off the bird spell, Poe quickly going after it, PJ pulled her hand off his abs and said, “No touching, luv. Sirius would get highly upset. And I don't like it.”Stepping in closer to him, hoping he wouldn't be able to slide away, she told him, “Nothing to worry about. I was just making an observation. Most of our kind in the UK don't work out and aren't toned like you are.”Sliding down the wall, hoping to get away from her, PJ vowed one more hand on his body and he was using spells, he didn't give a shite what anyone thought! Deciding it was time for nice to end, he said, voice harder, “Look, luv, no touching. And you're making me uncomfortable. Just leave it, yeah? I don't like this.”“It's nothing to worry about,” Ginny assured him, sliding down with him, putting a hand on his chest. “You're not overly big, though. That's good! You look very nice!”And that's when PJ started to freak slightly. Lifting his wand, he said, “No touching! Don't make me use a spell on you.” Then he looked over her shoulder and gave a sigh of relief.
Sirius had been listening intently to the discussion about what they needed to do when the ghost-like raven came into the room with Poe hot on its tail feathers. Instead of chasing the spell, the bird landed on his shoulder and gave him a hard rap on the head with his beak, cawing loudly. One glance over to where Ginny had been was enough to tell him what was going on. Shite!
Standing up so quickly that he about knocked the bench over, even with the people sitting on it, his face took on a furious mask. Grinding his teeth, he said, “Arthur, I need you to come with me.” Without waiting to see if the man would follow, he shot out of the room, fully planning to rescue his godson.A bewildered look on his face, Arthur stood then followed the obviously furious Sirius, wondering what was going on.Pulling up to a halt when he came out of the kitchen, seeing what was going on, Sirius' complexion went mottled from his ire. Waiting until he heard the door open and glanced back to see Arthur standing there, he leveled his wand at Ginny and snarled, “Hands off, now! Leave him alone!” Seeing Ginny jerk and remove her hand, turning to look at him, he kept his wand leveled at her. Taking a step forward, he growled, “He said to leave him alone. When someone tells you that, you leave them the fuck alone! If you were a man, Ginny, not only would you be in real trouble, but I would slug you for that shite!” Taking another step closer, liking how pale she was and seeing her glance towards her father, he snapped, “Get the fuck away from him and stay away! Do you understand me?”“Yes, Sirius,” she stammered, starting to wring her hands.Petting Poe as he landed back on his shoulder, amused when the bird hissed at Ginny, PJ was quietly thanking every magical deity out there he could think of for Sirius' timing. That and he really needed a shower now because he felt absolutely filthy. Plus, he wanted to scrub everywhere she touched to get the feel of her off of him.Redder in the face than Molly ever went, beyond angry, Arthur told his daughter, tone cold, “Get into the kitchen now, Ginny. We'll discuss this when we get home!” With that, he pointed to the kitchen door, waiting. Until this point, he had ignored some of what was said about his daughter, assuming that jealousy came into play over so much. Then, when the article hit and they read what was said, Ginny swore it was lies. Now? Well, he wasn't sure and he would have to rethink signs that were there. Because he had clearly seen what happened, read PJ's body language and heard what he said to her. There were also the looks she gave PJ when he was around. So, there was probably something to this.Face paler, Ginny whispered, “Yes, dad,” then headed in that direction. Her father very rarely did that, but when he did, you better obey.Waiting until his daughter was in the kitchen and the door had shut, Arthur looked at the two then said, softly, “I'm sorry.”“Nothing for you to be sorry about,” Sirius told him, glancing at PJ, who appeared highly relieved.“Thanks,” PJ told him. “Just—please, keep her away from me.”“I will,” Arthur assured them. With a sigh and shake of his head, he headed back to the kitchen, sure it wasn't over. Sirius wasn't likely to let this go and would probably say something in front of everyone. He couldn't blame the man and would deal accordingly.Waiting until he heard the kitchen door shut, Sirius lowered his wand then stepped closer to PJ. “You alright?” He asked, reaching up and putting a hand on the side of PJ's face.“Unnerved, feeling filthy and a tad shaky, but I'm fine,” PJ told him. Shaking his head, he added, “She wasn't going to back off, Sirius. Sorry, next time I'm using a spell on her after I send off the signal.”“Don't blame you a bit and you need to,” Sirius told him. “What exactly did she do?” He needed to know before he went in and really started to snarl.Sighing, PJ ran him through what happened. Shuddering, he added, “I was doing alright until the touching started. Blimey—she wasn't going to back off and pulled out that shite so many use.”Shutting his eyes and snarling internally, Sirius shook his head. Opening them again, he said, “I'll snarl at her when I go back in. Arthur probably will when he gets home as well. From now on, I don't give a shite what we're in the middle of, I'm coming out to meet you and will wait until you get upstairs until I go back in. That will stop it. Any looks she gives you, I'm snarling at her.”“I can deal with that,” PJ nodded, slightly relieved.Looking at PJ, Sirius rubbed the side of his face where his hand was, not sure what to say. Instead, he gazed in his eyes and seemed like he got lost there. At that moment, the fact that this was Harry seemed to slip away. Instead, he saw a handsome man he was attracted to, someone that was allowing him to do what he adored; protect him. PJ was a riot, fun to be around, sexy and all manner of other things. That he was Harry seemed to slip aside. Before he could think about it or stop himself, he leaned forward and kissed him, slipping his hand around to cup the back of his head as he did.Though completely stunned by this turn, PJ went with it, leaning into the kiss and wrapping an arm around Sirius, holding him close. Oh hell yes, this felt good!Breaking off the kiss, reality hit Sirius. He was about to apologize, swearing it wouldn't happen again, but was stopped from doing that.Once Sirius broke off the kiss, PJ gazed at him. Rather than let either of them over think it, he put a hand on the back of Sirius' head and pulled him into another one, holding him there, adoring how good it felt to not only kiss, but how Sirius' body felt pressed to his. That Sirius didn't expect! He thought there would probably be a stunned look coming or some anger, but not this! He went with it, though, kissing PJ back, pressing him against the wall and holding him there. The feeling of that body he liked so much pressed against his was something he adored. Groaning, he decided this had to stop before it went any further. Besides, they had to talk. He wanted to know what PJ was thinking or if this was just a spur of the moment thing.Breaking off the kiss, he looked at PJ, who was gazing intently at him. “We need to talk later,” he said, keeping his voice down.“Yeah,” PJ agreed with a nod. Figuring Sirius had to get back, he lowered his voice and whispered, “Don't you dare regret this. Because I don't.”Looking at PJ, Sirius really didn't know what to say to that. All he knew was that his heart was pounding faster than normal. After a couple moments, he finally managed to get out, “Can't promise, but I'll try.”Taking that for what it was, PJ nodded. “We'll talk later. You better get back before someone comes to hunt you up. I need a shower, desperately.”“We will. When the meeting's done,” Sirius told him, backing away, though he didn't want to. Sighing, he said, “I hope we won't be much longer, but I’m not counting on it.”“Nothing to worry about,” PJ shrugged. “I have some stuff I want to do anyway.” Then he nodded and headed towards the stairs, Poe perched on his shoulder.Watching him go, Sirius' eyes drifted towards that nice arse, adoring how it looked as PJ walked. Shaking his head, though grinning internally even if he was uptight about this, he then headed back to the meeting.
Coming back into the kitchen, Sirius didn't sit down. Instead, he put his hands flat on the table and glared at Ginny. Seeing her flinch then draw back slightly, cringing, he snarled, “You ever touch him again or pull that stunt, I'm hexing you. Got me? Not only will he use a spell to get you to back off, something I told him to do, but then you deal with me. I don't give a shite what you do with anyone else, but leave PJ alone! He's with me. He's made that clear. I've made that clear. Got me, Ginny?”
“Understood,” Ginny stammered out, shaking as she stared at the obviously furious Sirius.“Don't talk to her like that, Sirius,” Ron piped up, jumping in to defend his sister as he was clueless about what was going on.“Don't get involved, Ron,” Arthur told him firmly then whispered to his sputtering wife that he would explain it when they got home. Shaking his head, he added, “Ginny needs to listen.”“I mean it,” Sirius told her, tone icy. “If you were a man, I would slug you for that stunt! Your attentions aren't welcome. He's made that as clear as he can. This is no different from a man that sexually harasses a woman. Just because you're a female doesn't mean you'll get away with it. You won't. You'll deal with me if it keeps up.” After one last glare at her, he sat back down, folding his arms over his chest.“Is there something we need to concern ourselves with?” Albus asked, looking from the obviously irate Sirius to the cowering Ginny. He could take a good guess at what brought this on and didn't like what it was. It was something that he didn't want to affect the rest of them, though.“No,” Sirius told him bluntly. “It's between her and me. That's where it'll stay unless she pulls another stunt like this. However, I think Tonks and Kingsley should find some of the pamphlets the DMLE has on sexual harassment then give them to her so she knows just what it is and the consequences of it.”“I'll do that,” Tonks told him, knowing what the issue was from Remus. She also planned to have a long talk with Ginny. With a sigh and nod, Albus then pressed on from where they were when Sirius left. He just hoped that this issue wouldn't bring about more problems amongst them when they had so many others to worry about.
Coming into the bedroom, Sirius shut the door firmly behind him then looked towards PJ. His godson was relaxed in a chair in nothing but his boxers, feet propped up on his bed, reading something. Coming over, he took a seat on the bed and told him, “I snarled at her. Honestly? She's going to try again. Use spells on her. Then I'm going to. Remus said Tonks is going to get some Ministry literature on sexual harassment and talk to her about it. I don't hold out hopes it will do any good, but it might calm it.”
“I'll back her off then let you handle it again,” PJ told him with a sigh. Tossing the papers down on the bed, PJ stretched then groaned as he slumped, “We'll manage. Even if I have to get nasty about it.”“Do that,” Sirius told him plainly. “Just don't hurt her. I've already gotten plenty nasty and will get worse if she keeps on.”Nodding, PJ just looked at Sirius, waiting to see what else he had to say. The other topic was coming and that's what he was more interested in discussing.Looking down after saying that, Sirius sighed. As much as he adored the kiss, he wasn't sure how to go from here. Shaking his head, he said, softly, “The kiss—you're my godson--,” but that's all he got out before he was cut off.“I am, yes,” PJ told him softly, though his tone was determined. “Harry died the year I left, Sirius. You talked to him through letters and never understood that I grew up. That little boy is long gone. PJ took his place. I'm him, yes, but we're very different.”Looking up and gazing at PJ, Sirius wasn't sure what to say. Thinking it over, he said, “It's just the idea.”“Sirius, you never really knew me,” PJ told him gently. “I had so much to hide that I couldn't talk to you about a lot of it. That and we both were so worried about the letters getting intercepted that we kept so much out.” Gently, he asked, “You saw me as that little boy until you saw me next, didn't you?”Sighing, still looking at PJ, Sirius nodded. “That's the image that was there, yeah. I admit that. I mean, I knew you graduated, went to uni, all that, but I couldn't shake the picture of you from your third year.”Smiling, PJ said, “I'm not him anymore. I left Harry behind a long time ago.”Grinning just a little, Sirius chuckled, “That I'll admit. You're very different than I imagined you'd become. And that's not a bad thing.”“Let me ask this; what is it you want? I mean, you're the one that kissed me. We won't discuss that one night as that was just odd.” PJ inquired then waited.Still looking at PJ, Sirius wasn't sure what to say. His mind, of course, played back over the sex that one night, but there was more to it. Shaking his head and dropping his gaze to the floor, he gave a heavy sigh. He really wasn't used to someone like PJ that asked outright. Most let it go wherever it went without questioning. Then again, he hadn't really been involved with anyone. Thinking it over, he said without lifting his eyes, “I would like to see where it leads. I like getting to know you. You’re so different than I ever thought you would turn out. Well, I'm not sure what I thought you would turn out like, honestly. Maybe becoming the equivalent of an Auror because that's what your dad was. Not this, though. And it's great, something I love.” Grinning sheepishly, he admitted, “I have had to keep reminding myself just who you are since you moved in to stop some of it.”“I'd like the same,” PJ admitted. “We can see where it goes. I've not let anyone get attached to me since leaving Bruxaria. Well, even before that for obvious reasons. So, I want it out there I've not been in anything serious before.” Lowering his voice, he gave up, “I've felt a bit the same way about you. My thought was that you just wouldn't be interested.”Looking back at PJ, Sirius was happy with this. More than he cared to admit. “We can give it a shot. We'll just keep it to ourselves for now.” Chuckling, he added, “And I've not been seriously involved either. Not something I wanted, honestly. Either before or after Azkaban. So, we're in about the same boat there.” This—oh, this was good. And he wanted it, badly.“We can give it a shot and see where it goes. I think we're both swift enough to figure out if it won't work and stop it before it gets bad so we don't ruin the other relationship,” PJ told him, pleased with how this was going and actually excited that they might have a chance.“We are,” Sirius agreed. Shifting around and settling back against the headboard, one leg propped up on the bed, he asked, “I've been curious since that night; what are your leanings? I mean, obviously, you like men. You just haven't mentioned about women.”“It's both,” PJ told him with a casual shrug. “I just tend to prefer the lads as I'm more comfortable with them because of school. We didn't get much of a chance to mingle with the birds, obviously, especially those of us that went year 'round. I've dated a few, but wasn't much interested.”“Same here,” Sirius nodded. “The lads are easier to deal with, if you ask me. I've always thought so anyway.”“The birds are way too complicated,” PJ laughed, shaking his head. “They completely confuse me and send mixes messages about what they want.”“They do!” Sirius agreed with a chuckle of his own. This was good, though. And he was happy with the outcome. He was curious where this would go, too. Oh, he wanted a repeat of the sex, no doubt there, but would keep that on a leash until they built up to that again. Until such time as that happened, if it ever did, he would go with the flow and adore every minute of it.
