Chapter 13
Following Remus and Lucius into one of the small parlors then watching both of them ward the door, Sirius glanced at an equally bewildered Harry and Bill, wondering what was going on. When that was done, the three took a seat across from Lucius and Remus. Slipping an arm around Harry's shoulder, Sirius asked, tone slightly cautious, wondering if this was something that was just going to throw another spanner into the works, “What's going on?”
“Lucius and I were talking last night about contingency plans for what we're all sure is coming,” Remus explained. Smiling, he added, “Nothing to worry about. We've come up with something that doesn't involve you leaving the house that might defuse it for a time.”“From what was said by all, it would just put off the inevitable when it comes to Molly, but we're hoping that we can keep pushing it back so we can get a handle on parts of the reactions before the worst comes. When it comes to the situation, if we understand everything right, we think that the three of you would set off the worst, specifically Bill because of his relationship with Harry.” Lucius added, looking between the trio.“It probably will end up that way,” Bill confirmed with a nod. “She won't be happy with plenty of other bits of this mess, but this will set her off the worst for various reasons.”“Keeping that in mind while we talked, we thought that maybe we should just take the three of you out of the mess when it starts. After discussing it, our idea was that if she shows up with the younger set that the three of you vanish to the top floor. Lucius said the elves can get the warding up you would need today.” Seeing Sirius about to say something, probably to protest, Remus held up his hand. “Let us finish before you say anything.” When Sirius nodded then motioned to him to get on with it, he pressed forward, “What we thought was that letting the rest of us handle it right off might be best because that way we can get a feel for what can happen. As the bond is strongest between the three of you, that might mean the reaction would be more powerful if you're drawn in from the get go. We would like some foreshadowing of what to expect. The twins and Charlie, from what we know, will set off some, probably enough to gauge what to expect, but the full fury won't happen if Harry and Bill aren't present.”“We aren't saying to hide out and avoid her indefinitely, but just at first,” Lucius added, looking between them. “That and we can desperately try to defuse the situation. From what we know, that's probably not possible, but we need to try. For all our sakes. We don't need a full out calamity happening if we can at all help it. If you vanish and she can't draw you in, we might have the opportunity.”“There is no chance of that,” Bill snorted, shaking his head. “The longer she doesn't get to blow completely, the worse it's going to end up.”“I do see your point there and it might be something to consider,” Sirius said after thinking it over for a few moments. “At this time, we know the bonds are still unstable and shifting. That might make it worse. While ours seem like they are in better shape than anyone else's, what we're like with Harry might make this into a nightmare.”“That was our thought,” Lucius told him, looking between the three. “That bond coupled with the relationship then added in how protective you and Bill are of Harry and we might have something that could become worse than we can imagine. While the bonds are all different, if we get some hint, besides what happened with Fleur, we can prepare. All of us. If Remus and I have figured it out correctly, all of us in the house are going to end up pulled into this in one way or another, even Narcissa. It's going to set off the bonds in all of us in some way, shape or form. Molly, if she starts on one in the bond, will pull the other part in. If Draco gets dragged in we're sure that Narcissa and I will also. If I get pulled into the fray, Remus comes right along. That's a lot of people that could easily cause chaos.”“I'm seeing the point,” Bill nodded. “What I don't get is how we'd manage to get away. Mum is not going to hold off once she steps inside this house. She's going to start. If we aren't already in our room, we're not going to have a chance to get there before she unleashes. If Ron, Hermione and Ginny are with her, they will as well, in some way. Once they start, we aren't going to have any kind of chance to get up there. And I don't see any of them allowing us to leave.”“My thought was elves,” Lucius tossed out there. “I can assign some to get all three of you out of the mix and up there. We all know they can pop you away before she gets much out of her mouth. Then you stay put until we give an all's clear.”“That might work,” Sirius nodded, thinking it over. “We'll at least have a chance at getting away.”“Maybe,” Bill sighed. “It's better than what we have. I don't like the idea of hiding from this. It's coming and I want it over with, honestly. As it's been brewing a long time, it needs stopped, not be allowed to drag on and just push Mum further over the edge. Because I guarantee that the longer she's allowed to stew, the worse this will get and we can't hide forever. We have Order meetings. With what's going on, we need all of us if anything big takes place. That can't happen if we pussyfoot around Mum.”“There is that, yes,” Remus sighed with a nod.“I'd really rather not have an audience for what's coming,” Harry added, speaking up for the first time. “I somehow don't think she'd be above just losing it in front of every member of the Order and ending up with everyone dragged into the middle.”“She wouldn't think twice about doing that,” Bill confirmed with a dry chuckle. “And if Dad is already here for those meetings, we'll end up blindsided. The only hope I have when it comes to him is that he gets us a message that she's coming. That's probably going to end up the only thing he does.”“That wasn't something we thought of,” Lucius admitted, brow furrowed.“No,” Remus sighed, shaking his head. Tossing it back and forth in his mind a couple of times, he said, “Let's go with this for now. If anything else presents itself, we'll deal accordingly. While it rankles that the three of you should even have ponder hiding out in a house that Sirius owns, it might be for the best. One time should be all we need to get a feel for what might happen.”Glancing at Bill and Harry, seeing them look at him, Sirius sighed then nodded, “We'll go with this plan, or at least prepare for it. If it doesn't work, at least we tried. It's something anyway.”“As soon as we're done here, I'll get the elves to work on the warding. We need that up first as it's going to stop her from getting onto your floor. No sense in making you hide if she can just get up there and confront you,” Lucius told him.Seeing nods, Remus jumped to the next topic they wanted to discuss with them. “Sometime in the next day or so, Lucius and I want to get with the three of you to discuss another related area of this nightmare.”“What one is that?” Sirius asked, not sure what he was talking about as this nightmare was the only one pressing.“I don't think you know much about it, Sirius,” Remus told him softly, eyes flitting to Harry and Bill. “We want the information about Albus and what might be going on there. That's not been covered. I'm not even sure you are aware of most of it. We thought we'd get what Bill and Harry know then go to talk with Charlie. For now, we want to leave the twins out of it because of Severus.”“We think that Severus may know quite a lot because of his role in this mess and his talks with Albus. We don't want to give up anything to him yet if we don't have to. Once we have a picture of what you know, I'm going to try to work on Severus to get out of him what he knows while Remus takes on the twins. Then, when we have as much as we can gather, we'll try to piece it together. I'm quite sure that what's going on factors into parts of this mess in some way. We also are sure that despite the bondings, it might press on. To deal accordingly, you're going to need the information.”“In discussing it, we think that all of you that have been directly involved might not have had a neutral enough perspective to pick up on the clues that might be there because you were dealing with situations as they arose,” Remus added. “If it's all out there, we might be able to see something you can't.”Seeing Sirius glance at them, brow drawn down, looking concerned, then Harry giving him a pointed look, Bill nodded. “We can do that. Just set up a time and we'll go through what we can. Some of this—I would prefer that it be done with just the five of us and parts of it not come out. You'll get that as we talk. There is a ton there, though. And I'm telling you now that Fred and George know more than Charlie does on it. He just helped me when he could or was in the country.”“We assumed the twins did because they were in school with Harry, thus having more interaction,” Lucius admitted. “I want the warding up first and us to prepare for that end before we get into this. So, in the next day or so when none of us have anything else to do, such as times when Narcissa is working with the others, we’ll get together to go over what you know.” Now he was even more curious than ever as to what they knew and wanted to hear it. He had a feeling, like Remus did, that there was more involved here than they suspected.
Planted at a table in the backyard with Lucius and Remus, Sirius, Harry and Bill were going over the mass of information they had on everything trying to see if they could spot something they had all missed because they were only seeing pieces. Honestly, this was just busy work for the time being. The elves were up working on the warding on their floor of the house. As it was delicate business, they couldn't be up there while it was being done. Once they got it all in place, something that would take a couple of hours, the elves would key the three of them in. For now, if someone else wanted to go upstairs they would have to bring them through the wards. Cissy had been moved down to the ground floor where a temporary room for her had been set up until the elves finished the improvements. As the basics of that should only take another day or so, it wasn't a great hardship.
Looking at the running list Lucius had going of what they thought was all related, Sirius sighed, “A right bloody mess that we are only adding more to as we discover bits.”“Very true,” Remus chuckled, sorting through what was presenting in the three of those across from him. “We're not even sure if what we're seeing from you three is going to present with the rest of us as the bonds appear different. Though Narcissa figured out the reactions, we're not sure that's any kind of help other than knowing what the reaction is.”“It has to figure in somewhere,” Bill said, taking a sip of his tea. “It wouldn't be there for no reason, Remus. It's just figuring out what it means and what the bond marks symbolize. I'm sure those go hand in hand with the reactions, at least in some way.”“Very true,” Lucius sighed, looking around at the mass of information scattered all over the table. He was about to say something else when he heard the door open. Turning his head, he saw a white as a sheet Narcissa come out. On edge, he asked, “Is something wrong?”“We need to get Harry, Sirius and Bill upstairs. We just got a Floo from Arthur. He came home to a note from Molly that said they were coming over here to talk to all involved.” Narcissa told him, starting to shoo everyone inside the house.“The wards aren't ready yet,” Remus said, brow drawn down, sending all the paperwork to their room. “It's going to offer no protection until they are. Even having the elves take them away won't do any good because there is no protection to keep her out.”“We'll come up with something,” Sirius sighed, grinding his teeth over this. Making sure that Harry was behind him, he led the way, hoping they had time to get up the stairs and hidden. Between him and Bill, they could put up something temporary.Heading towards the stairs at top speed, as Lucius and Narcissa directed the elves to help prepare for what was coming, including keeping watch for who might show up and warning the others about what was coming, they were trying to get out of there before it was too late. However, it already was.Just as they were getting to the stairs, the front door swung open. There were Molly, Ginny, Ron and Hermione standing on the doorstep.Groaning as he looked at his mum, Bill muttered, “Oh, shite.” This wasn't going to have a good outcome, not at all.Glowering at her son, Molly said, “We need to talk. I want to speak to your brothers as well. Not only do I want to know just what's going on, but how involved this mess is.”“That's not a good idea, Molly,” Sirius told her, edging Harry towards the stairs. “For now, you just need to leave it alone and let us get a handle on the reactions it's causing.”“Don't tell me what I can and can't do with my sons, Sirius Black!” She hissed, eyes narrowing. Glancing at Harry, she added, “And I want to know how this affects poor Harry. There must be a way to break this.”“Molly, you need to understand that now isn't a good time for this,” Remus told her, trying to keep a soothing tone and level voice as he stepped between her and the stairs. He didn't think that reasoning with her would do any good, but was trying to buy time, the thought of the elves slipping his mind in the face of what he was sure was her full fury coming. “At the moment, everything is so unstable that we don't want to chance setting off what's there. What happened with Fleur, something I know you heard about, is just a sample of what the bonds could unleash. As we don't know what they’re capable of, it's best to leave this alone for a time. I do understand emotions are high on your end as four of your sons are involved, but its best we don't poke too much.”As Remus was talking, Lucius urged the trio most involved to get up the stairs and stay hidden. He hoped that the werewolf could buy them enough time to get the three that would set this off the most out of there. Hearing Narcissa ordering the elves to warn everyone, he was just hoping against hope that they could hold off hell coming. If not, he would summon the elves once more and have them take them away, even if the wards wouldn't keep her out.“I want to speak to my sons, Remus,” Molly snarled, stepping closer, the three with her following. “I'm their mother and I want to sit down and hear from them what's going on. Then for them to explain how this came about.” Seeing no one moving to do what she wanted, she turned red. Eyes flitting to Sirius, who was nudging Harry up the stairs and Bill, who seemed like he was sticking close to them, she added, “And for poor Harry to join us. He's involved as well.”“That's not a good idea, Molly,” Sirius told her, still nudging Harry up the stairs. “Our bond seems like it's the one that is setting off the worst of the problems.” Glancing in that direction when the front door opened again, he gave an internal sigh when he saw Arthur there. Though he hoped the man would step up and do something for once, he wasn't counting on that either.Putting a hand on his wife's arm and shooing the other three back to the door, Arthur told her, keeping a soft, soothing voice, “Molly, come home. It's not the time for this. As things settle, you'll be able to come over and discuss what's going on. As high as emotions are at this juncture, that's not wise. It's best to leave well enough alone.”“You've put me off long enough, Arthur,” she huffed, yanking her arm loose. Looking up, she bellowed, “Fred, George and Charlie, I want you down here now!” Looking at Bill, who was easing up the stairs, she snarled, “Don't you dare, William! I want to talk to you as well.” Gaze drifting to the wide-eyed Harry, who was mostly hidden behind Sirius she added, tone softening, taking on a sweeter bent, “You too, if you would, Harry, dear.”Oh, Harry did not like that tone, not at all. Nor did he like the looks from the three around his age behind her. Swallowing thickly, allowing Sirius to nudge him up the stairs, he said, shaking his head, “This is a really bad idea, Mrs. Weasley.” Already he was feeling the first stirrings of what had come with Fleur, though it was different. Muttering to Sirius, keeping his lips from moving, he said, “We need to get out of here, now. What happened with Fleur is starting again.”“Fuck,” Sirius muttered, knowing that meant nothing good. Hearing noises above them, he looked up to see everyone else involved peering down at them. If they didn't do something real fast, Armageddon was about to unleash. A glance at Bill showed him the eldest Weasley had his eyes narrowed and was glaring at his Mum. More not good. If Bill was getting angry, that would just add to what was happening with Harry, creating an explosive combination.Knowing he had to do something, he glanced at Remus. Seeing his old friend looking his way, he mouthed 'keep them busy', then stepped in front of Bill, muttering, “Get Harry upstairs. Let me handle this. I don't care what you feel, keep moving.”Glowering at his mother, grinding his teeth, Bill stepped up by Harry and prodded him to keep moving. “Just go. Let Sirius take this on.”With a dark look thrown at the four in the doorway, Harry started moving. Looking up, he could see the others coming down. Though the other Weasleys in the house were grown adults, they were programmed to obey their mother, knowing it would end up all the worse if they didn't, so they were following her orders. That wasn't good either. Keeping on moving, he tried not to look back, but couldn't help it.Stepping down in front of Molly, Sirius said, “Look! I get you're upset, alright? We all are. This is not what any of us wanted, understood? You just need to calm down and not start something that could explode. Wait a while until we can get everything under control.”“Don't you dare, Sirius,” Molly huffed, rounding on him. Hands on her hips, she said, “Almost all those involved are my sons. Though Harry isn't biologically, he's the next best thing. Just back off and let me talk to them without any of your interference.”Eyes narrowing at that, Sirius glanced at Arthur, who was trying to pull his wife back by talking soothingly to her. He would be about as much help as a flobberworm in this situation, as trying to calm her down by talking sure as hell wasn't going to work. “Now, look,” Sirius ground out, temper spiking. “You aren't listening! Albus has talked to all of you. Arthur has, too. Everyone has explained the situation, Molly. It's time you listened and give us space to deal with this nightmare. Adding to it is just going to make it all the worse! That we don't need. This is my house, Molly, and what I say goes. I say leave it and go!”Shoving Sirius aside, stepping over to the foot of the stairs, Molly glared up at her sons then shouted, “Get down here, now! All of you!” Once more softening her tone and giving Harry a smile, she added, “You too please, Harry. You're so involved that I think this is something you need to sit in on. Besides, Ron, Hermione and Ginny want to talk to you. They haven't had the chance since this whole nightmare started.”Staring at Mrs. Weasley over his shoulder, having seen what she did to Sirius, hearing what she said, Harry could feel a low throb starting. It seemed like it was centered between his eyes then spreading out, encompassing his whole body quickly, melding with the quickening beat of his heart. Then came the backwash of anger. It was directed at her and the three behind her. There was also plenty in Mr. Weasley's direction as well. The shoving aside of Sirius, how she talked to Bill, how she wanted to draw him in with the act, all of it seemed like it was building to some kind of explosion. Shaking his head, he muttered to Bill. “We need to get upstairs, now, and away from this.”Having felt the tingle in the bondmark and how it grew, heat infusing it, Bill nodded. Glancing at Sirius, whose eyes widened as he clutched his forearm, he slipped an arm around Harry's waist and started to drag him up the stairs as fast as he could go. The feeling he had was that whatever was coming would be bigger than what Fleur had set up. As he passed his brothers, he said, “Get out, now. Hide. I don't care what it sets off in her. What she's setting off isn't good.” Hearing Charlie mutter he would do what he could, he continued to drag Harry up the stairs.Seeing Remus shoot him a bewildered look, Sirius told him, keeping his voice down, “We have to get out of here. The same reaction as what came before Fleur met the wall is starting. It seems stronger this time, though.”“Bloody hell,” Remus breathed, eyes wide as he glanced at Lucius. “Go!”Watching Bill hightail it up the stairs with Harry, Molly's eyes narrowed. This would not happen! Putting a hand on Sirius' arm, gripping it tightly to stop him, she snarled, “William Weasley, get yourself down here right now.”“Stop it, Molly,” Sirius snapped, trying to yank her hand off his arm. He just wanted out of there and hoped that they could calm Harry down. It was too late, though.Hearing her again, Harry once more glanced over his shoulder to see what she did, he shut his eyes as that throbbing seemed to grow before it lashed out. A large explosion was heard, like that of a small bomb going off, then Mrs. Weasley, Ron, Ginny, Hermione and Mr. Weasley were all knocked flat on their backs. However, even though he was horrified by that, it didn't seem to want to stop. A swirling energy seemed to encompass him, Sirius and Bill in the same colors as their bondmarks. Snarling, he snapped, “You need to stop it! Now!” Feeling like he was on fire, he yanked loose of Bill and stepped down the stairs towards the five. “That's enough!” He was at the end of his rope and it needed to stop. If she wanted to lash out at him, fine. He could do it back. It was just—he was not letting her talk to or treat Bill that way anymore. The same with showing Sirius no respect. He was at the end of what he could take and planned to make it clear. And he didn't care how angry anyone got at him, either.
