Startled, Draco jerked away, nearly stumbling to the floor. His head hurt like hell, but when he moved the entire room moved with him.
Taking a steadying breath, he forced himself to remain still and ignored the strong desire to vomit.
With that under control, he immediately began to assess his surroundings.
And was aware of two things:
First, that he was painfully erect,
And second, he had no idea where he was.
Most people would be disturbed to awaken in unfamiliar areas. But Draco was used to it. Whether it was 'learning how to survive' (as his father called it) or simply sleep walking as a child, he became used to these types of occurrences.
So he analyzed the area, and in doing so, might find an exit.
It looked to be a study of sorts. There were walls lined with book cases, filled with ancient volumes.
A warm fire kept the chill at bay, but he recognized that the air was cold.
Which was unusual for this time of year.
‘So the lusty lad awakens.’
He recognized that drawl. Lucius. Of course.
Carefully, he turned to see him standing in front of a book case. He had an old book in his hand, reading it as if he were alone.
Draco closed his eyes and tried to recall how he had gotten here.
His mind, however, was...blank. Nothing.
And that…unsettled him. Nor did he like the strange sense of failure clinging to him. He felt as if he had failed to accomplish something.
He finished everything. He never failed. He always made sure to come out on top, no matter what others opinions were.
So why this feeling of loss? As if he had something of value, or was supposed to do something, and failed?
It was enough to drive him crazy. Yet instead of being able to remember, or address these feelings he had to contend with his father.
Draco did not hate his father. He cared for him, as much as he could. He respected him. Perhaps because of all that he had accomplished, and all that he had failed to do. He was an example of everything that Draco aspired to be, and everything that he detested as well. An ironic but true thing.
Draco wasn't sure what his father wanted. So he rolled with it.
‘Lusty?’ he asked, ‘I’m sorry, what exactly am I doing here? How did I get here? Is this an intervention?’ He felt his lower lip curl, ‘Is this another 'Son, you are not representing the family correctly?’
Lucius smirked, and instead of putting the ancient tome away he brought it with him.
‘No I brought you here.’ He paused, 'I hope you are not too angry.'
Draco narrowed his eyes, 'Have I cause to be angry?'
But Lucius moved slowly. As if he had all the time in the world. 'At the time you were quite opposed to my intervention. Fought me.'
Draco did not intimate that he had no idea what he had been doing to provoke such a reaction, so he chose to change the subject.
‘Where am I?’
Lucius shrugged, ‘A place that I like to keep for my own personal enjoyment.’ He sat down behind the desk and stared directly at his son, ‘A place that is mine. Which is why when this conversation is over, I will personally escort you away.’
Draco found it impossible not to raise his eyebrows at that. Whatever.
His father enjoyed his secrets, but it was rare of him to express such…intensity.
There was a silent moment, and Draco thought he heard a scream from somewhere nearby. A muffled cry for help.
He glanced towards the only exit--an open doorway--then back to his father with eyebrows still raised.
Apparently his father was just as deviant as his son, probably more so.
‘Tell me, Draco, what do you know of your family bloodline?’ His voice was calm, the scream not registering at all.
Draco respected his privacy. He would not pry.
But the question seemed silly because the answer was obvious, ‘The Malfoy family is an ancient bloodline, stretching back for centuries. It is pure, untainted, and perfect.’
Merlin, how many times have I been told that?
His father set the book down very carefully.
‘In a way, you are correct. Our bloodline is ancient. Pure. Untainted by muggle blood.’ He paused, looking at the doorway leading to who knew where.
Draco followed his father’s gaze. His behavior was undeniably peculiar, but then, so was Draco’s inability to remember anything.
‘Centuries ago, our ancestors struck a unique bargain. It is so unique that I doubt you would ever see its like again, because of our ancestors. And what they did. Or failed to do. I suppose it all depends on one’s perception.’
He was becoming impatient. ‘Is there a point to your history lesson?’
He struck a nerve, because he saw his father’s lower lip curl, ‘The men of our family our veela. Not born veela. You may find this odd, perhas even thinking ' How is that possible?’ He paused, and smirked when Draco did not interrupt, ‘Our ancestors apparently thought it would be to their advantage, and reduce the likelihood that our line would be polluted by mudbloods. After all, many magical families intermarry…become weak. In bred. Inbreeding is the only drawback to our purity.’
Again, he saw his father’s eyes drift towards the empty doorway. What the fuck?
‘We achieved a power that no other wizard family has been able to rival. Beauty, purity, and, of course, the Instinct. You know what this is, you have exhibited signs of it from an early age. Advanced senses…sexual prowess. Speed, strength, intelligence—all are connected to this bargain.’ He tapped the book for emphasis.
Draco looked at him as if he had lost his mind, ‘You brought me here to tell me this? Forgive me when I say cut the shit and tell me the real reason why I am here.’
Lucius sighed. He mumbled something under his breath, and then he looked at his son, ‘You know what I am talking about it. Tell me, do you feel a presence inside?’ He leaned forward, ‘Whispering suggestions? Perhaps even telling you that it’s alright to fuck a certain mudblood?’
Draco sprang up, ‘I am leaving. I am not wasting my time with this.’ His heart was pounding, and he had no idea way because everything his father revealed was shit. Lying was something both he and his father excelled at, and he was not going to let him jerk him around.
Lucius was faster. He pinned him bodily against the wall and held him there, ‘I took extra care to ensure that the instinct remained dormant inside of you. I thought I had succeeded where others failed. But you do know what I am talking about.’
He glared.
Sweet.
Want. Mine.
Soft, chestnut hair and a frightened voice, ‘Please!’
His erection returned full force, attracting his father’s condemning gaze.
Draco shook his head, ‘I have no idea what you are talking about’ [not a complete lie], ‘Release me. I would never fuck a mudblood. I do a lot of things, but I am no blood traitor.'
Lucius looked away. He would not meet his eyes, and Draco found that even more disconcerting.
‘You don’t realize it, but your appearance alters depending upon the way the Instinct chooses to manifest. You have little control over it. But it usually flares when one is sexually aroused..or thinking about their mate. I would even argue that it is more difficult to control, because your mother is half veela. You are more veela than either of us.'
'Mother now too--?' He laughed, a brittle, harsh sound, 'I am not veela. I don't have a mate. There are no male veela, everyone knows this but you, it seems.'
As if he had not spoken, his father continued, 'You feel in control right now. You think you can silence the voice but that will not last....and when it decides that it wants to exert its full influence over you…’
‘You have lost your mind,’ Draco slowly, clearly anunciated.
His father took a step back, 'I would give you a demonstration were I certain that I would be able to control the instinct but I can't. Not here.' He took a steadying breath, 'Draco you will always be a danger to yourself and others. That is the sacrifice one makes for this much power. But when you continue to deny it like this, to the point of not even possessing memories, then you risk exposure and even death. There is a reason why we do not advertise this contract.'
'Because you'll lose all credibility before being hurled into a padded cell? This is one of your most created--and twisted--lies yet father.'
'And I am only seeking to right my mistake of suppressing you instinct by giving all the information you might need so that you can make the correct choice,' He snapped, 'Continue to mock me and I will respond, son.'
Draco pushed away from him, 'The only choice I need to make is how to best leave this mad house.'
Lucius laughed, not at all amused.
'Tell me, what were you doing before I brought you here? Or perhaps you might consult that one who calls himself by no name.'
Draco jerked his around, how did he know about that? 'Is that so? Perhaps I should tell mother about the person you keep locked up here. Or the Ministry. You have a lot of enemies who still live. Most would love to see you back at Azkaban, father.'
Lucius lashed out faster than Draco could move. He felt his head whip back from the force of the punch, flying into the wall.
A nasty smile split his face, 'Not so calm anymore, are you?' Draco spat blood out, 'I am leaving, and don't worry, I won't tell if you don't.'
'Get out. Better yet, go ask Narcissa. She'll confirm my words.' And with that, Lucius pushed him into the fireplace.
How convenient. But he hated floo travel.
He did not here his father mutter, ‘You'll see. And you'll truly feel the burn then, son.'
