Hermione’s hands were clamped over her mouth.
Every muscle was tense; every fiber of her being became aware of him. She listened closely, staring with wide-eyed horror at his bare feet as he slowly made his way around her room.
When he began to slander her friends and family, she went cold with dread. Normally it was the opposite reaction—she became hot and angry, fierce and ready to fight but without her wand, she was defenseless against him.
She was no match for him in strength. And no one would hear her scream.
So she would hide. And wait. And hope that he was drunk enough to give up, fall asleep, or simply lose interest in what clearly involved the molestation of her self.
When he broke her wand…
That was when she began to cry.
Because it was one of the few remaining links to her past…to them.
Her friends.
And the fact that he could just so easily destroy something she valued so dearly…it was wrong.
I hate you.
Lost in her thoughts and feelings, Hermione didn’t see the hand reach under the bed.
And then she was staring up into pale green eyes.
And that was when she began to scream.
