Alexandra's POV
It was strange, sometimes I felt so close to the surface that I could hear them talking, other times I could only hear some kind of buzz, making me thing they were talking.
I'd heard Sirius and Severus talking together a lot, in those moments I paid the most attention. When it was Madam Pomfrey talking to me, or one of my friends, I gladly embraced the darkness, to escape. They told me things I didn't want to hear, things about my condition, about the time that was passing.
Severus and Sirius had the most interesting conversations, I couldn't imagine why they would be talking about it, but most of their conversation seemed to revolve around bonds. I knew a great deal about them, and was eager to take part in their conversation. Unfortunately the spell madam Pomfrey had put me under prevented me from doing anything but lying here.
I listened to their theories, their debates. Somewhere along the road they seemed to have forgotten that they were enemies, it almost sounded like they were friends. Of course both made the occasional snide remark, but it seemed they were perfectly capable of getting along.
They both stopped talking at some point and then Madam Pomfrey was there again. She spoke to me ‘okay Alexandra, I'm going to lift the spell, your internal tissues seem to have healed’. I felt as though a weight had been lifted from my chest. I could move again! I found my eyes again, it was wonderfull to be able to open them, and see the world around me.
I sat up, and looked around. Madam Pomfrey had pulled her famous curtains around my bed, probably meant to give me some privacy. Judging by the light streaming trough the windows, was about 3 pm. ‘Alexandra, the headmaster will be here shortly to speak with you.' she said. I nodded, great, I didn't want to see Dumbledore, somehow he always unsettled me. 'Does he have to?' I asked her. She looked taken aback by my question. 'Of course he wants to speak with you about this.' she said. I decided not to react, knowing sometimes it's better to leave things unsaid.
'What day is it?' I asked her, I needed to know how much I had missed during my recovery. 'Friday' it's Dumbledore who answers my question.
Madam Pomfrey left us to it. The headmaster took the seat next to my bed. 'I'm sorry miss Zabini, but I need to know what happened from your point of view. So I told him exactly what had happened.
I knew my legal rights, so I'm surprised by his next words. 'seen as your behaviour provoked the attack, I'm sure you will not press charges, the Zabini family could do without the extra publicity.'
I was shocked at his words, I did not provoke the attack, this is an outrage! I tried to reign in my temper, and luckily managed to. 'I will not press charges, not because I find myself guilty, but because I don't want to smear the Black family's reputation. I'm sure my father will be in touch for the rest of your accusations against my family.' I took the time to savour the moment of the old man speechless. 'Also, I would greatly like for you to keep any opinion you may have on my family to yourself.' His face gets, if possible even paler when I add the last sentence 'you of all people should know how dangerous it can be to make false accusations.'
He couldn't get out of the hospital wing soon enough after I said that. I knew of my family's reputation, but I'd never had someone confront me about it before. My father had always told me, if anyone ever threatened me, I had to tell him right away, to I conjured a small vial, and extracted the memory. This would be a job for Octavia the moment I could get out of here.
My next visitor was none other than Lucuis Malfoy. Lucius and I had never been friends, I always thought he was a pompous ass, and could be taken down a few notches. He came to tell me how grateful he was that I stood up for one of his snakes. Of course he was displeased to hear that I had been injured. He told me that, if I ever needed anything, Slytherin house would come to my aid. I appreciated the gesture, but assured him I would not require any assistance.
During lunch break Regulus came to visit. He caught me up to speed about the important things in the castle. He also informed me that he'd done some poking around, and found out that his brother had never slept with Laura Wallace. It would seem that it had been someone else, who had told her he was Sirius. Laura had apparently been so drunk she didn't realise that. I was relieved to hear that, still unsure about how or why it would bother me so much that Sirius slept with someone.
I told Regulus about my conversation with Dumbledore. I also asked him to send my vial to my father. I had simply forgotten to ask Malfoy, but Reg could do it for me. He told me his owl was out, delivering a letter, but he could do it as soon as he got back. It would never have gotten my attention if Reg hadn't blushed a little.
'Regulus Arcturus Black, is there something you'd like to tell me?' I asked, in the best imitation of his mother. He grinned at me 'Can you keep a secret?' he asked. I quirked my eyebrow, I'd been keeping Regulus' secrets since we were kids. He was like the brother I'd never had.
'Don't give me that look Lex, you did betray me once.' He was right, we'd been five, and he had taken Sirius' toy broom and had crashed in a tree with it. It had been hilarious. I never meant to rat him out, I just couldn't keep a straight face when he lied to Sirius about it.
'We were five, get over it! Now spill.' I said.
'I've met someone at the end of last summer, and we've been writing ever since.' Thad didn't sound like such a scandal to me. There was something missing as to why this was a secret. 'Is she a muggle?' I asked, that would be the icing on the cake for the Black family, Regulus, their perfect son, in love with a muggle, their mother would die of shame . His answer was most definitely not what I had expected. 'No, he's a wizard.'
