Chapter 12
~~~~~
A week really wasn’t enough time to plan a vow renewal. Not according to Narcissa. Apparently she had made plans for a massive wedding and reception that included all those that they ever knew. However, Harry did not feel bad in the slightest for crushing the woman’s ideals for their wedding. That isn’t to say he didn’t appreciate what she’d been planning, it just wasn’t his style. The day after making their decision on the vow renewal date, Harry and Draco went into the Daily Prophet to talk with the Chief Editor. While there, they told him that they wanted a journalist to cover their wedding. They discussed what they wanted in the journalist and to stated that if Rita Skeeter where to attend then they would make the paper regret it. Thankfully the Chief Editor seemed to understand fully and gave them a couple names of other reporters that they could utilize for the event along with some sample pieces. They looked over the reporters given to them and decided on a witch that seemed to be level headed and unbiased in all of her writing pieces. Once they’d decided, the Chief called the witch in and they were able to speak in private with the witch.
Myrilla Kinsmith was a short little thing with jet black hair and extremely pale skin. But her warm brown eyes were bright and attentive, thirsting for the opportunity to prove herself. She sat down in the empty chair provided and looked between all the men in the room, plainly confused.
“Thank you for coming in quickly Kinsmith. I would like to introduce to you Misters Malfoy and Potter-Malfoy. They would like to have a quick word with you,” The man inclined his head respectfully towards the two men, “I’ll leave you three alone. Call me when you are done.” The Chief Editor got up and left the room, the soft click of the door latching shut echoing in the room.
“Miss. Kinsmith first off, everything said in this room is off the record. Secondly, we have an offer that we would like to discuss with you,” Draco started. He waited until she nodded in understanding before continuing, “You know about the two of us, no?”
Kinsmith nodded her head again, “Yes sir. The knowledge that you two are an item is known by all.”
Harry smirked, “We’re much more than an item Miss Kinsmith. And that is what we’d like to talk to you about. We’ve been married for quite some time.” The look of shock made Harry chuckle, “Yes I know. No one but immediate family knows about this fact. That being said, we are going to be putting on a Vow Renewal for our family in under a week and since the press has kept an eye on our relationship over this past year we figured that we wouldn’t be able to keep things under lock and key this time. Not with the way the world is watching us. Having discussed it, we decided that we wanted to pick the reporter that would publish the story. Would you be willing to do it?”
Kinsmith looked from one man to the other with alarm. She looked thrilled and terrified all at the same time. “But sir, why me? I’ve only been working for the Daily Prophet for two years now. There are others who are much more experienced that I am.”
“That’s true,” Draco chimed in, “But we’ve looked at a number of pieces written by you and your other colleagues and you are the one who is the least biased when writing your pieces. You’ve shown to look as many sides as you can before writing a word. We like that. Many people like to judge us for what we’ve done in the past or who we used to be. But we feel like you would be able to look past all of that and just report on the Vow Renewal. Now when you write about it you’d write about it as if this were the first time we’ve been married instead of what it really is.”
Kinsmith frowned, “Why would you want the world to think this is the first time you’ve been wed? Seems to me if you’ve been married for a while then you’d want them to know that.”
Harry’s eyes saddened a bit at the thought, “People wouldn’t exactly understand.”
“How long have you been married? If you dont mind my asking.”
Draco gripped Harry’s hand in his own, “We’ve been married since the day Harry defeated Lord Voldemort.” Kinsmith paled a little at the mention of the dark lord but then the mention of when they were married sunk in.
“You’ve been married all this time!” Kinsmith exclaimed. “How did the wizarding world not know this!” Her eyes shone with excitement “This is the story of the century! The boy who lived and the ex death eater having fallen in love and married the moment the one standing against them was vanquished. How romantic!” The two looked at each other, amused by the woman’s antics.
“Will you do us the honor of reporting on our wedding??” Draco asked, smiling warmly.
“Yes sirs, I would be happy to report on the wedding.” When she said the word wedding, she gave an over exaggerated wink.
“Glad to hear it. Here is where the event will take place, and I’ve included the time on there as well.” Harry leaned forward and handed the piece of parchment over to the woman. “If you have any questions then feel free to owl either one of us.”
“Thank you sirs. I will do my best. Would you like to review the piece before I send it in for printing?”
“We would, thank you.” Harry replied. The three discussed menial things after that, talking about what things she’s done in her life and what she wanted to accomplish in her career. When the clock tolled 2 o’clock they shook hands and Draco and Harry made their departure. They took a tour to Diagon Alley to check in on the store and to visit a bit with Miss. McNore. She was delighted to see the two men and gave them an update on how sales have been doing. While Draco was teaching at Hogwarts, he had made arrangements for McNore to help supervise the shop along with the main sales and transactions between his shop and other clients that purchased big orders for their own companies. McNore had proved to be intelligent, cunning, and had a real head for business. Not for the first time, Draco thanked the fates for having him hire the woman. As time had gone on, he’d given her more and more responsibilities that she conquered with out even breaking a sweat. With her leading the front, he felt more secure doing more things outside of the shop than he had when he’d left for America. He was actually contemplating making her a partner in the business.
However, he wouldn’t mention such things to her yet as he wanted to discuss them with Harry first. When their visit came to a close, Draco and Harry left and picked the kids up at their muggle daycare. Sybil had been incredibly happy to see the boys return to the daycare, nearly as much as the boys were. She took it upon herself to lead them into their room and reassured Harry and Draco that they could leave the boys there as long as they wanted with no additional charge. It warmed Harry’s heart that his children were loved by this woman and hoped that she would always be there for the boys. They picked the boys up and made their way over to the Manor where they let the boys loose in the house and went to find Draco’s mother.
She was still a bit miffed that they weren’t having a large ceremony but she made herself happy with planning what she could. Draco and Harry had decided that they would hold the ceremony on the 9th in the Manor gardens where the largest group of Burkwood osmanthus grew. With it being early July, most of the flowers had bloomed and withered but for the renewal they would place a spell on the plant to coax it into flowering for the ceremony so the air would be sweetened pleasantly. They also planned to magically manipulate the plants into making a large archway that they would use as a wedding arch. That had been Harry’s idea because he remembered how the plant was one of Draco’s favorites. They made a guest list which included all of Draco’s and Harry’s immediate family along with the Emsworths, Jagra, McNore, Minerva, and Travis.
Draco tried to convince Harry to not wear any sort of glamours to hide his pregnant stomach but Harry wouldn’t hear of it. With the attendance of the Daily Prophet, Harry didn’t want his pregnant self to be on the front page of the Daily Prophet. They were going to cause enough of a stir with the wizarding world with the ‘wedding’, no need to cause more of a stir then needed. He did compromise a bit and agreed to taking their wedding pictures without the glamours as long as the photos were taken by Travis who knew his way around a camera. They still debated on whether they would make arrangements for Kinsmith to arrive after or before the pictures. She’d want to take pictures of Harry and he would have to make sure that his glamours were in place for those. It was a debate that they decided to put off till the last minute. In the meantime, they spoke with Huffmin and he promised them that they would have at least five if not more undercover aurors just in case Alden decided to show his face. They did not want any surprises on this special day for them.
A couple days into their planning, they were pleased to hear that everyone invited would be attending. And as per request or rather, demand, from Narcissa and Andromeda, Draco stayed at the Chateau while Harry stayed at the suburban house. Ciel and Teddy stayed with Harry at the house but they were quite upset when they were told that Draco wouldn’t be staying at home with them. Since they had moved to Hogwarts, Draco hadn’t spent more than one night away from the family. They’d grown accustomed to having him around and they didn’t like the thought of their Papa being away for so long. That being said, as soon as he woke up, Draco immediately flooed over and spent every waking moment with his family.
Four days before the renewal was to take place, Harry brought the boys over to the Emsworth estate. When Cassie learned of the renewal, she insisted that she work on their garments herself. But they had to come at different times because she refused to let Draco see what she was making for Harry.
“Turn around dear boy!” Cassie ordered. Harry was standing on a stool while Cassie worked on his wedding robes. She was fixing the fitting around his waist when she asked him to turn. The boys were working on a puzzle on the floor nearby as the adults did their thing. Harry turned on the stool and raised his arms and Cassie used a few pins to adjust the fabric to where it should be. She made a couple more adjustments before stepping back. “Alright. Take it off and I’ll make the adjustments.” She helped Harry take off the the robe and handed him a bathrobe, “Put this back on until we’re ready to try it on again.”
Harry put on the bathrobe and sat down on a chair near where the children were playing.
“Daddy,” Teddy began, putting two puzzle pieces together, “Why is the dress so white?”
“It’s not a dress Teddy,” Harry replied, “It’s a dress robe. Its what wizards wear when they go to a formal event.”
“But why is it so white? That’s boring.” The boy’s nose wrinkled as he looked at the garment in the older woman’s lap.
Harry also turned his gaze towards the garment, looking at it thoughtfully. “Would you prefer we put a little bit of color in it?”
Teddy nodded, “You said that you and Papa are getting properly married. That’s a party right?”
“In a way yes.” Harry chuckled.
“White doesn’t seem very much like a party.” Harry laughed openly, thoroughly enjoying his eldest’s way of thinking.
“You’re right young man.” Cassie smiled towards the boy, “White isn’t usually used in a party. But this isn’t just any ol’ party. This party is meant to show the love between two people. And that love is meant to be a pure thing and white is the color we use to represent that purity.”
“Will Papa be wearing white?” Teddy asked, piecing another two puzzle pieces together.
“Your Papa will be wearing a black dress robe.” Cassie pointed towards a mannequin in the corner of the room which held an unfinished outfit that was being made out of the finest silk.
“That’s not fair.” Teddy commented with a frown. “Why is Daddy the only one wearing white?” Eyes that were becoming more and more stubborn as the days went by turned to Harry, “Put some color in your dress Daddy. If Papa doesn’t have to wear all white then you shouldn’t either.”
“Add blue!” Ciel chimed in. He’d been too preoccupied with the puzzle to really care about the conversation but he wanted to give a color.”
“No, green” Teddy stated.
“Blue!” Ciel glared at his older brother. “Green is icky!”
“Dont be mean!” Teddy glared back, “Daddy’s eyes are green”
“I still say blue.” The blonde barked. Harry rolled his eyes as the boys continued to bicker. Cassie and himself shared a smile as he walked over to the woman. Sitting in the chair next to her, Harry picked up a corner of the robe in his hands and looked it over.
“I suppose we could add some color if it isn’t too much trouble for you.” He said thoughtfully.
“It’s no trouble at all. What kind of color would you like me to put in?” The older woman’s eyes gleamed. Her heart was touched that Harry would take his sons’ requests so seriously and put them into the renewal ceremony. Ever since she got involved with planning and preparing for the ceremony, every suggestion the boys made about the plans, flowers, colors, games, food, everything was considered and the men did their best to incorporate those requests into their special day.
It took Harry a moment to think things over and when he made his decision he looked up into the old woman’s eyes with determination, “How about we do this-” and with that the two delved deep into discussing what they would do to bring a bit of color into the dress robes.
~~~
The 9th came sooner than they expected. Everything was a bit rushed but it all got done. The morning of the ceremony, Harry woke up before dawn with his little munchkins snuggled up in bed with him. They’d wanted to sleep in his bed the night before and he couldn’t bring himself to tell the boys no. He got up, leaving them to snuggle up together in his bed, however he could see that it wouldn’t last long as they were already stirring. He took a quick shower and went downstairs to make breakfast. While he was there he made an extra effort with breakfast by making eggs, bacon, hash browns, sausages and even making pancakes. The table had just been set on the table when the boys came stumbling down, rubbing the sleep from their eyes.
“Come on you two. Eat up. We have a long day ahead of us.”
“Papa’s coming home tonight right?” Teddy asked sleepily.
Harry sat down with a plate of his own breakfast, “In a way yes. Dont you remember our conversation a couple days ago? Starting tonight you and Ciel will be staying a couple nights with Grandma Narcissa and Grandma Andromeda.”
Ciel and Teddy both groaned, “I dont wanna! It’s not fair!” Ciel exclaimed, “I want Papa!” Harry chuckled, wishing he could make them feel better but there was no way around the honeymoon. Draco planned it for the two of them and every time the two got some alone time that week, Draco would mention how awesome it would be. Yet nothing Harry said or did would convince Draco to give up where they were going for their honeymoon. When breakfast was done Harry cleaned up and started gathering everything that they would need for the day. Snacks, toys, puzzles, and everything else that Harry could anticipate needing to keep the boys from having a meltdown. With all the running around Harry and Draco had been doing over the past week, the boys weren’t put to bed at their normal times, meals weren’t regular and their overall world wasn’t their normal routine. Harry was preparing for a meltdown at some point during the day. Particularly with their reaction to Harry reminding them that the boys would be spending the next couple nights with their grandmas. Since they weren’t expected at the Manor until 2pm, he allowed them to play for a couple of hours. In the meantime, Harry took a long bath. Normally he wouldn’t leave them alone for very long, but due to the occasion he figured he could allow them a little more unsupervised time so he could take care of himself for a little while. Plus, if they really needed him they had no problem walking in on his bathroom time.
When the time came for them to start heading out, he put the bag with all their things by the fireplace before gathering up the boys and getting them showered and dressed in shorts and a tshirt. Their outfits had been left at the Manor so they wouldn’t get ruined by little handles. Once everything and everyone was gathered, he took his youngsters by the hand with his bag of necessities on his shoulder. Together they all went through the floo and into Malfoy Manor where they were met by Narcissa, Andromeda and Hermione.
“I was beginning to think you weren’t going to show up!” Andromeda teased, giggling as Harry rolled his eyes.
“Yes I was planning on leaving him at the alter.”
“I do hope you’ve gotten over that thought.” Draco commented as he entered the room, “Cause I wont take no for an answer now.” Silver eyes glistened as he came over and leaned in to kiss Harry on the cheek. Then he gave each of his children a big hug. “Good morning you two.”
“Morning Papa.” Teddy and Ciel said in unison. Ciel shifted until he was hugging Draco leg with that iron grip of his and he wouldn’t budge. Draco looked up at Harry with curiosity in those silver eyes. Meeting his eyes, Harry shrugged.
“They aren’t exactly happy that we’re going on a honeymoon without them.”
Nodding with understanding, he took each of their hands into his own. “Come here you two. Your Papa needs some help getting dressed. I forgot how to tie my shoes.” Him admitting such an obvious lie made the boys giggle and they willingly followed the blonde out of the room and towards whatever room Draco had his outfit in.
“Now it’s time to get you ready.” Narcissa commented, guiding Harry out of the room and upstairs into the guest bedroom. Narcissa bustled about the room making Harry crazy. She fussed with bed curtains, she practically ripped his jack off of him, she paced the room and she was a shaking mess. It wasn’t until the woman started messing with his shaggy hair that he gathered her hands in his own and gave her a rather tight but kind smile.
“Narcissa,” He waited until she was looking at him, “How about you go help Draco dress the boys. I’m sure they aren’t being very cooperative.”
“But what about you. You need help getting dressed.” The brunette shook his head.
“I’ll be alright. Thank you though.” Harry gently guided the woman towards the door. He opened the door and as nicely as he could pushed her into the hall, “Like I said. I’m sure Draco needs some help. I’ll be fine. Come get me when everyone else is ready.” Then he shut the door leaving himself in silence. With a great sigh of relief, Harry walked back to the mannequin that wore his dress robes. Cassie had really out done herself with all of their dress robes. His, Draco’s, and the boys. How she was able to get four sets of dress robes done with such perfection in less than a week he didn’t know, but he would be eternally grateful.
Harry took his time getting dressed. He fussed with his hair in the mirror a bit until the mop on top of his head smoothed out a bit and he was able to manipulate the hair in a nice sweeping mop that was far more contained than his normal. He realized earlier that week that he was playing the bride in this scenario which was fine with him but he had decided that he would act just like himself. He’d never been a gay male who was overly flamboyant. He’d met a couple and decided that if they wanted to live their life like that then they should do whatever makes them happy. But as far as he was concerned, he was just a regular guy who happened to like men instead of women. And wearing a dress wasn’t his style. Just because he popped a baby out of his body and would do it again soon doesn’t mean he’d ever wear a dress. However, he did compromise a bit. His dress robes took on a slight dress like appearance while still appearing very male. He pulled his dress robes off the mannequin and put them on himself. The dress robe was made of the finest silk in a slight asian fashion, closely fit to the man’s body but not too tight. The straight collar went 2/3 of the way up his neck with a 2in diameter sized filigree button to clasp the top together. There were smaller buttons with the same filigree pattern trailing all the way down and around his pregnant belly. When Harry placed the glamours on himself, the buttons stopped at his hips. Underneath he wore a pair of white trousers with white dress shoes. All over the robe, Cassie had embroidered small pale vines and flowers sparsely over the robe. It was enough to give the dress robe a bit of color without distracting from the white dress robes. Then there was a sleeveless over robe of a shimmery silver color that hung over his shoulders and draped down to the floor. There were filigree broaches that bunched the cloth at the shoulders and held it in place.
Looking at himself in the floor length mirror, Harry once again thought that Cassie had truly outdone herself. She did a wonderful job at making him feel incredible in his dress robes with or without the glamours and that was definitely an astonishing feat. A small giggle escaped his lips at the wonderous feeling welling up inside of him. He couldn’t wait till Draco saw him in it.
They decided to do the private photo shoot after the ceremony so they could hold to the tradition of the groom not seeing the bride in their outfit before the wedding. Even though they were already married by legal standards, they’d never gone through the motions of a wedding so they wanted to do things proper. They decided that when the pictures were to be taken, they would send Kinsmith off with the Emsworths where they would give the journalist stories of when Draco was a boy. Then Hermione would switch with them and tell the journalist stories about Harry if she wished to hear them. In the meantime the rest would be in the gardens taking their wedding photos without the glamours. With one final breath to calm some of his nerves, Harry held his head high and stuck his head out the door and into the hallway and called Cassie.
~~~
Music filled the air and those who were in attendance stood from their chairs. Everyone turned sideways so they could gaze at the bride coming down the aisle.
Draco couldn’t keep his eyes off of Harry as he walked down the isle. He’d been standing at the alter in the dress robes Cassie had made for him. A black shirt that crossed over itself at the neck, with a cotton shirt layered on top of it that also crossed over itself at a lower cut than the black shirt. Over that was the over coat that was made of the finest silk. The silk over coat was fitted at the top in a somewhat tradition tuxedo style that buttoned at the waist yet once there, the fabric loosened up and became a somewhat flowing hem that went down to knee length at the back of his knees. At the waist he wore a thick quilted leather belt with straps that wrapped around and dangled where they were tied together and knee high leather boots covering the majority of his black velvet pants. The boots also had the quilted pattern from the ankles up. He’d combed his hair so that it was parted off to the side and hung loose and flowing down to his shoulders. Their two boys walked in front of Harry, both of them were playing the part of ring bearer, each one holding the rings they’d bought themselves forever ago on a pillow. Yet no matter how adorable his children were at that moment, Draco couldn’t stop staring as Harry came towards him. His dress robes were just the right fit for him. They gave the semblance that Harry was the bride but nothing about the ensemble was feminine. This being was all male even as the bride and Draco desperately hoped that his twitching cock wasn’t showing through his pants.
It took too long and at the same time it wasn’t long enough for Harry to reach him. When Harry stepped up in front of him, they clasped hands and held each other tightly. They gazed into each other’s eyes and nearly forgot anybody else was there.
“Bloody hell,” Draco breathed softly, “You look incredible.”
Harry flushed lightly, “Thank you. You look really good yourself.”
Draco leaned forward and whispered in his ear, “I can’t wait to see you without the glamours.”
A discreet cough brought their attention to Hermione who had agreed to be their officiate. “If we could get started now?” She teased.
The faint flush to Harry’s cheeks darkened a bit while Draco only smirked in a suggestive manner.
“Yes ma’am.” The blonde replied sarcastically.
“Thank you.” The witch raised her voice so everyone could hear her, “Thank you everyone for gathering here today. We’ve come here to celebrate the union of these two amazing wizards,” Brown eyes sparkled as she spoke, “However this isn’t just a union that we are celebrating. As many of you know, Harry and Draco were wed a very long time ago. But today they wish to reseal their love for one another by exchanging vows in front of family and friends.” The only surprised looks in the bunch were the Aurors in the crowd that were doubling as guests, “I would like the mother of the groom to bring up the knife.” Narcissa stood up from where she sat and walked up to the alter. She handed the knife over to Hermione with a somewhat watery smile.
“Thank you” Hermione held the hand in hers until Narcissa took a seat. Once everyone was settled once again, Hermione turned to hand the knife to Harry. “Harry, please take this”
Harry’s hands slightly trembled as he took the knife from his best friend. They’d talked about this and wasn’t entirely looking forward to this part. They’d decided to go with a semi traditional wizarding wedding ceremony with type of wedding ceremony that would bind them together forever. This was a variation of the soul bonding ritual that they went through upon Ciel’s conception. They’d done a little research before the wedding and found that the ritual they were about to do in front of their friends and family was the traditional soul bonding. It’s what normal people do when they want to spend forever with that one person. The two figured that with this ritual, it would just add another layer to their already bonded souls. Couldn’t hurt to make sure that they were forever.
Taking the knife in his hand, Harry picked up Draco’s right hand and locked eyes with the love of his life.
“With this knife Draco Malfoy, I open the pathway to your soul.” And without even blinking, Harry slashed a long cut into Draco’s palm. He picked up Draco’s other hand and did the same as he’d done with the left. Draco took a deep breath and barely flinched when Harry made the cuts to his hands. When his palms were cut, he took the knife and picked up Harry’s right hand.
“With this knife Harry Malfoy-Potter, I open the pathway to your soul.” And he cut a wound into each of Harry’s palms. When the cuts were made, Draco handed the knife over to Hermione and then turned back to Harry. Draco held his hands out, palms up and offered them to Harry. The brunette didn’t hesitate and placed his hands on top of Draco’s, palms down and gripped the blonde’s hands tightly. The blood on their hands mixed and mingled. Much like the ritual Draco performed with Teddy when he blood adopted the boy.
“I’d like to ask that the mother of the bride to bring up the cord.” Hermione spoke.
Andromeda, though not Harry’s mother she was close enough to fill the roll, she got up and brought forth a long cord that was designed to keep magic inside of what it bound. The woman handed the cord over to Hermione and returned to her seat. Then Hermione took the cords and tied it around both of their hands. It was loose enough that they could get out of it easy but that wasn’t the point. She took a step back and addressed the audience.
“Upon their request, they’d like to say their own vows before the ritual commences.” With a small gesture of her hand, she handed over the show to them, so to speak. Draco’s eyes hadn’t left the brilliant pool of emeralds since the moment they stood in front of him and for a second the blonde couldn’t make himself utter a word. But after a moment, he squeezed Harry’s hands tightly, allowing himself to forget everyone else in attendance and opened his mouth to speak the words that were for Harry only.
“Harry, when we first met you were everything that I aspired in my life. Yet you were everything that I could not have. It made me angry and spiteful and for that I am truly sorry. Despite that, our lives changed dramatically the night you did what no one else could and for the first time I felt relief and set free from all that held me back. I can barely believe that I have been given the blessing of standing here with you today. You are everything that I ever wanted and yet you are still everything that I dont deserve. You are and will forever be my hero for saving someone like me. You are my Chosen One. You are my home. From this day forward, I promise to never forget what you gave me that night. I promise to be your best friend, your lover, your greatest fan and your greatest enemy. I promise to be the best father I can to the children you have given me. I promise to support your biggest dreams and to comfort you when life falls apart. I promise to remind you every day that I am and always will be in love with you. I’ve given you my heart and my soul to hold in your hands for all eternity.”
Those emeralds that Draco was so in love with glistened with unshed tears and Draco desperately wanted to kiss Harry. But he forced himself to wait. They still weren’t there yet. Harry’s hands squeezed Draco’s, taking a few calculated breaths to gather himself enough to speak his own vows in return. When he was ready, he couldn’t help but chuckle a little bit.
“You are the biggest pain in my ass.” There was a light chuckle from the crowd, even Draco smiled proudly, “Always have been. And always will be. I’m glad you were there to be a pushing force in my life because I didn’t know what else to do with myself. The night I defeated Voldemort, I was able to really understand what I wanted from my life. The night that we were able to truly allow ourselves to be us, to be the ones that we needed, I gave you my soul and my very being. And despite all the lies and hurt we’ve done to each other in the past, we were able to make something incredible. There is no one else on this earth that I want to stand beside and I can’t even imagine anyone else to be the father of the sweet children in our lives. I stand here today and promise to you that I will be the best husband that I can possibly be. I will be your counsel, your lover, your best friend, a pain in your ass, and whatever else you need me to be. I promise to be loyal and patient. I promise to celebrate with you, cry with you and fight along side you. I even promise to have fights with you just to show you that I care. I will protect the family that you’ve given me with everything I have. And I will strive to be the husband that you will be proud of until the day we die. My life is in your hands and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
For a moment, Draco and Harry truly felt like they were the only ones there. Not a sound or movement could distract them from each other. They felt their hands tingle with magic but it was only a small mixing of magical energy. This was a good sign. For any other couple who choose to perform this wedding ritual, the tingling of their hands after their vows would indicate that their souls were starting to recognize each other as their one true mate in life. To them, it felt more like their magic was vibrating with familiarity at being one with the other again. The tingling was a call for them to complete the ritual and forever bind themselves to each other. Together they opened their mouth to recite the ritual spell.
“Ante solem lunam oramus. Ut una nobiscum in animo, facere duo autem in una. Effundet sanguinem nostrum ut sacrificium, alliges duplicia vita nostra simul ut unum. Quia beat duos cordibus vestris simul in sempiternum.”*
Off in the distance of their universe they heard a small gasp. One of their ‘guest’ Aurors must have realized what bonding ritual they were using. But they were forgotten when Draco and Harry tensed as the magic that had been pooling in their hands turned into a white hot fire, surging up their arms and spreading through the rest of their body. Every magic fiber in them was awake and on fire as each other’s magic was mixed and imprinted within their makeup. They gripped each other tight, both desperately trying not to make a sound. They had known this process would not necessarily be a comfortable one and they didn’t want to distress Teddy and Ciel, who had become incredibly uneasy when they’d been told about the potential for pain during this process. The magic that was imprinting within them gave one last surge before stopping as quickly as it had started. It left both Draco and Harry shaking and sweating, gripping the others hand tightly.
Panting heavily, Harry looked at Draco feeling a bit light headed. The residual pain from their magic mixing was almost more overwhelming than the actual mixing of magic. His eyes slowly closed of their own accord and he felt his world tilt a little before strong hands gripped him under his armpits from behind. It took him a second to open his eyes and to his surprise, Draco had stayed standing in front of him with the blonde’s hands clasped with his own. Harry turned his head a little to see that Jagra had managed to catch him and keep him from falling over.
“Harry,” Draco breathed softly so only those at the alter would hear him. He looked a bit ragged himself but his full attention was on Harry. They’d been worried that this ritual might be a bit too taxing on him with the pregnancy but Harry had insisted that they go through with it. Draco was thankful Jagra had anticipated this and had come up to be of assistance in the event it was needed because they were not allowed to let go of each other’s hands until the ritual was completed. But even with this precaution, Harry had turned white and Draco was starting to really mentally beat himself up for agreeing to this insanity. It could have waited until after the pregnancy was over but he couldn’t say no when Harry had been so insistent. Some of his self scolding was eased when the brunette looked back towards Draco with a soft smile.
“I’m ok.” The happiness in that exhausted voice clenched Draco’s heart in such a pleasant way.
“Are you sure?” Jagra asked from behind, his voice also quiet, “You almost toppled over there. And you honestly dont look too good.”
Harry nodded his head, “I’m fine. Just a little light headed is all.” He looked back at Draco when the blonde squeezed his hands and smiled. “I’m ok you two. Lets continue this. There isn’t much left of the ritual.”
Draco smirked, giving in and knowing what would be asked of them next and he really couldn’t wait.
“Ok. Can you stand on your own?” Jagra asked, his hold on Harry uncertain.
“Let go Jagra. I can stand.” Harry requested, feeling stable enough to stand on his own. Jagra let go of Harry and took a couple steps back, ready to step up again if he was needed. Taking a deep breath, Draco and Harry looked to Hermione who had heard the whole conversation.
“Are you ready to proceed?” Hermione asked kindly, her voice loud enough for everyone to hear. When both men nodded their heads, Hermione smiled even wider and looked towards the crowd.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, you have witnessed the joining of these two wizards. They’ve publicly and willingly took part in a ritual that would bind their souls to each other as true mates for all eternity. No power of man or wizard will be able to break the bond they’ve created with each other. Now, to complete the bond that is newly formed, Draco, Harry,” She paused to look at each of her friends, “All you must do to finalize the ritual is to claim your mate for all to see.” Brown eyes sparkled as she glanced towards Draco who smirked with mischief. “Draco, you may kiss you bride.”
“Finally!” Draco exclaimed with a small chuckle. Still holding on to Harry’s hands, Draco pulled the brunette to him and leaned forward to capture Harry’s lips with his own. Technically speaking, a simple kiss would have sufficed but Draco didn’t want to leave anything to chance when it came to the ritual. Nor did he want anyone to ever question his claim on the Boy-Who-Lived, so as soon as he could, he slipped his tongue into Harry’s mouth. The brunette squeaked a little with surprise but allowed Draco access to his mouth and twisted his own tongue around the blonde’s. As they ‘claimed’ each other the ropes that had been tied around their hands magically unknotted themselves and fell to the floor. This was the indicator that the ritual was completed. As soon as the ropes released them, Draco let go of Harry’s hands and pulled the man flush against his front with his hands gripping Harry’s sides possessively. Harry’s hands gripped Draco’s biceps in return.When breath became necessary they pulled apart and rested their foreheads against each other. Harry couldn’t help but laugh.
“Well Draco,” Harry stated as he pulled away, “You can’t get rid of me now.” The audience chuckled with him.
“How unfortunate I am.” Draco teased back.
“Ladies and Gentlemen. I am happy to present to you, Misters Draco and Harry Malfoy.” Hermione announced. To the sound of loud cheers, Draco and Harry turned towards their friends and family. They stood hand in hand for a moment before making their way down the aisle together.
While they waited for everyone to make it to the reception hall after the ceremony, Draco and Harry waited in the downstairs study. They sat on a the small couch and gazed at their hands. The cuts they had made during the ceremony had been completely healed. While they inspected their hands, they found that there were two very tiny tattoos on each of their hands. On the inside of their left ring finger, closest to the middle finger, was a magical tattoo of the other’s Family crest. It was tiny but it was big enough for anyone to recognize what house belonged to the crest. On the inside of their right ring finger was the same tattoo. So any time they reached either hand forward, whether it was to shake someone’s hand or to reach for something, the tattoo would be noticeable despite being relatively tiny. It was a reminder to anyone who gazed upon it that the person bearing the tattoo was promised to someone else in the most permanent of ways. Harry gazed at the white M that took over a green and black shield. There were three spears that sat behind the shield, two spears crossing where one spear sat up and down in the center. There was a small amount of filigree around the edges of the shield and at the top two snakes wrapped and draped over the top spear heads. The shield was propped up by two black dragons on either side of the shield. He picked up a piece of his over robe and wrapped it around the finger and nearly gasped when the crest seeped through the cloth and display itself over it. Clearly there would be no hiding the mark that was on their hands. Harry felt his chest tighten with excitement and adoration. This was real. He was Draco Malfoy’s from now until they died and it would be displayed for everyone to see where ever he went.
“How are you doing Harry?” Draco asked, pulling Harry over to lean against him, his arm wrapped around the brunette’s shoulders. He had the incredible urge to stay as close to Harry as he could.
Harry did lean against Draco, snuggling up against the blonde and reaching for his free hand. “I’m fine Draco. Stop fussing. I’m just a bit tired is all. Now give me.” He snatched Draco’s hand and looked at the Potter family crest on his husband’s hand. He’d never really seen his family crest before so he was curious to see what his looked like. There on the inside of Draco’s ring fingers was a tan shield with a sword and a wand, a wand that Harry thought looked too much like the elder wand. In the bottom space was the small Deathly Hallows symbol and a snitch accenting the point of the shield. At the top of the shield there was a small lightning bolt. On either side of shield there was a stag on one side and a doe rearing up to hold the shield with their foreheads and front hooves. Everything about the crest was Harry. Did Family crests change with the person? The stag and the doe would be his parents and the deathly hallows symbol would be from his line descending from that lineage but the rest was all him. It fascinated him.
“Can’t say it’s exactly my color.” Draco stated matter of fact like. Harry smirked and very lightly punched Draco in the side. The blonde laughed heartily, “But I could get used to it I suppose”
“Ass” Harry snipped back with a laugh. They were still laughing and arguing with each other when Travis came into the room, followed by Jagra.
“Alas, your presence is required.” The man announced.
“But first, lets have a look at you Harry. I want to make sure that ritual wasn’t too taxing on you.” The man pulled out his wand and waited patiently for Harry to drop his glamours. Sighing with mild annoyance, Harry took down his glamours and sat up properly so Jagra could do his thing. However, when Jagra came close to do his examination, he noticed that Draco made sure to sit as close as he could without sitting on top of the brunette. Draco was acting very possessive and it did nothing but make Harry chuckle when he took note of it himself. It was as if the blonde thought someone was going to come up and take Harry away from him. Harry figured it had to do with the bonding ritual and he made a mental note to ask Hermione about it later.
Jagra went about his examination, trying every diagnostic spell he could to see inside of Harry’s stomach and get some sort of reading. Alas, nothing worked and he had to once again resort to using his hands and feeling around and using rather muggle ways of getting readings. When the man was done, Draco got up and held out a hand to help his husband up.
“Alright. Are you two ready to get some pictures? We’ll go meet everyone at the reception after. You’re mother has the band playing and people are already dancing around acting like buffoons. And by people I mean your children.” Travis smirked.
Draco smiled back, almost too sweetly, “We’d better get done with these pictures so you can join them and do what you do best.” The two smiled tightly at each other for a second before flashing genuine smiles at each other and sharing a chuckle. Travis led the way outside and back into the gardens. They wanted to give Kinsmith enough time to reach the reception hall and become busy with Narcissa before they took pictures in case she wanted in on the photo shoot. They took pictures by the alter, Jagra retrieved their sons so the family could take pictures together. The whole family had a blast. Serious pictures were taken, silly pictures were taken and everything in between was taken. At one point Narcissa and Hermione joined them reassuring the two men that the Emsworths were taking good care of their reporter friend. Harry insisted that he switch places with Travis at one point so Hermione and Travis could get some good pictures taken of themselves by the small lake and the flowering burkwood.
Harry really just wanted to see the two together. Since they met at the Gala, Hermione had told Harry about the dates that Travis had taken her on. The first one being a simple easy date of dinner and a movie. Yes. A muggle movie. Though Travis grew up in the wizarding world, in his travels he had learned about movies and had even gone to multiple on his adventures. He’d also done a bit of research upon learning that Hermione was raised in the muggle world and learned that the normal first date for muggles usually involved dinner and a movie. He made an attempt to go with something that she would feel familiar with so she would feel comfortable and relaxed. From what she told Harry, the evening had been delightful and they quickly set up their next date. Since then they’d gone on nearly 5 official dates since the Gala, a date a week. That wasn’t to say they only saw each other once a week. Hermione told Harry that she’d often meet him at a library and they would do their own research or reading but sit next to each other and just spend time with each other doing their own thing. They’d owl back and forth and debate about menial and important things alike. Harry just couldn’t get enough of seeing how happy his best friend had become and the effort Travis seemed to be putting in to get to know her more and to have her know him. He made them pose every which way and even Draco got in on suggesting poses for the two love birds.
When the lengthy photo shoot was over, Draco and Harry walked hand in hand into the reception hall with their kids running ahead of them. They all sat at the head table where Ciel sat on Harry’s left side while Teddy sat on Draco’s right side. While they ate they listened to their friends and family toast them. When it came time to cut the cake, Draco and Harry walked up to the dessert table and only managed to behave themselves until they were asked to place a piece of their cake in each other’s mouths. Draco was placing a piece of cake in the brunette’s mouth when Harry saw a very mischievous smirk tug at the blonde’s lips before he got a massive face full of cake.
“Bloody Hell!” Harry exclaimed. Draco on the other hand only stood there laughing, muttering something about how he’d always wanted to do that. Teddy and Ciel burst into laughter and bolted from their seats to join their parents.
“Food fight!!!” Ciel exclaimed, his little hand grabbing a handful of cake off the table and threw it at Draco.
“Hey!” Draco choked over his gut wrenching laughter.
Harry, who had been trying to decide whether to scowl or laugh himself, lost the battle and starting laughing. If this was going to happen he might as well get in on it and do it well. He picked up the plate that the piece Harry and Draco were sharing and shoved the rest of their cake into the blonde’s face. Then he took his free hand and smeared it all over Draco’s face. Between Harry pushing on his face and Teddy tackling the man’s leg with a handful of cake himself, Draco ended up falling back onto the floor. Ciel and Teddy climbed on top of Draco with cake in their hands.
“Oi! Why are you going for me!!” Draco cried merrily.
Harry laughed, looking down at his husband while their children battered his with cake. “Looks right to me.”
“Daddy!!” Teddy cried. Harry looked at his eldest and barely managed to shield his face as cake was flung at him. Their food fight lasted only a few more moments before the adults put a stop to it and began to clean themselves up. When everyone had their desserts, a slow song came over the floating speakers. The song was one that Harry immediately recognized as one he’d listened to every now and then when he was feeling overly whimsical. It was a muggle song that he hadn’t expected to hear on their wedding day. He looked over at Draco with a small but curiously raise of his eyebrows. Draco placed his napkin on the table and stood up. He moved behind Harry’s chair and pulled the man backwards. When Harry had enough space to get out, Draco held out his hand.
“Would you honor me with this dance Harry?” Draco’s eyes were sparkling and swirling with admiration and love for the man before him. It was the kind of pure open feeling that Draco normally reserved for only when Harry and maybe a few of their close friends were around. It melted Harry’s insides and he immediately took Draco’s hand.
“It would be my pleasure.”
Draco gently pulled Harry up to his feet and led the man to the dance floor where all eyes were on them. Harry’s arms wrapped around Draco’s neck while Draco’s arms came around his waist and back, pulling the brunette close to him. They swayed back and forth to mellow sound of “Love Me Tender” by Norah Jones.
“I thought we’d decided on another song for our first dance.” Harry commented quietly.
Draco shrugged his shoulders lightly, “I know. But you like this song alot. You’ve been humming it when you think no one is around.” The blonde smirked, leaning in for a kiss as he mentally admired Harry’s reddening cheeks.
“Shut up.” Harry muttered against Draco’s lips, pouting.
The pout made Draco openly laugh. Draco’s hands gripped Harry’s waist affectionately. “Oh dont be like that.”
“You’re an ass” Harry shot back with a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. “But I love you anyways.” The two danced in comfortable silence as they vaguely heard people start to join them on the dance floor. When the song ended and the next one started, Draco and Harry split and each one took the hand of one of their sons and danced with them before switching little partners.
The reception continued and everyone there was having a great time, even the Aurors who mingled amongst the guests. At one point towards the end of the evening, Harry had the sudden and rather urgent need to pee. He discreetly excused himself and exited the ballroom where the reception was being held. He went upstairs to his and Draco’s room so he could quickly strip out of his dress robes after dropping his glamours. He’d found out during Ciel’s pregnancy that once he was really showing, it was incredibly uncomfortable to get dressed and undressed while his glamours were in place. And there was no way he was going to mess with the long garment while attending to nature’s call so he had to strip it off. When he was done and managed to get his dress robes back on, he wandered back into the bedroom. As he wandered over to the bed he noticed that there was something small and shiny on his nightstand. He distinctly remembered that when he’d been in this room earlier there hadn’t been anything on his nightstand. Intrigued, he walked over and reached his hand out to touch it.
“Harry!” Draco’s voice floated into the room. “Harry, Kinsmith would like to talk to us both.” Draco stopped in the doorway and looked around. Blonde eyebrows furrowed as silver eyes inspected the room. He could have sworn when Harry mumbled the need to use the restroom that the brunette would have come to use the bathroom in their bedroom. Draco looked around the room and raised his voice “Harry?”
