Still chuckling as his brother gave him a wave and left the office, Roark quickly sobered as he turned to the file lying on his desk. Reaching for it, he pulled it closer, opened it, and began to read. Page after page, taking notes when he came across things that would be needed to look into further, then making a set of separate notes of things that had never been investigated, but in his opinion, should have been.
Once he had finished with the last page, he lay aside his pen, the disbelief of what he had just read...Lords of Kobol, all the missed opportunities, the things that hadn't been investigated, preliminary investigations aborted suddenly with no explanations on WHY they had been aborted, when, again in his opinion, should have continued.
Shaking his head, he now turned to his computer, turned it on and waited for it to boot, and once it had, he plugged in his external hard drive and set to work making the files for the things he wanted.
He wasn't sure how much time had passed, so when the door suddenly chimed as the security lock was deactivated, he looked up just as Harry entered, carrying grocery bags, a bag from the local book outlet and two from the arts and craft outlet in and ON his arms.
"How the HELL did you manage to carry all of that?" he asked as he got to his feet quickly and moved to take two of the grocery bags from him.
"Thanks," he said with a relieved sigh, "and very carefully. Feather light charms helped," he said with a smile as he dropped the bags he still had on the couch. "The arts and craft outlet had several patterns that I hadn't seen before, so I picked them all up, plus I got several skeins of every color of embroidery floss they had."
"I'll take a look at them tonight when I get home," he told him as he began to put things away in the sideboard. "Thanks, Harry."
Harry moved up behind him, wrapped his arms around him, and hugged him. "It was no trouble at all. I think we're both going to need a way to take our minds off the problems this case is going to bring us, as well as to keep us from overthinking some things. It's a good way to keep us from exploding and burning people to a crisp. I'm well aware that doing the cross-stitching helps you to relax and unwind from stress building too much. Reading does much the same for me." A smile. "They had several books I hadn't seen before and looking at them, they look to be good. There's a couple I can't wait to get into."
Roark chuckled as he began to pull out boxes of tea and hot chocolate. "Oh my," he breathed as Harry released him. "I've not seen any of these flavors before. Peach Raspberry Creme? Mocha Caramel?" He looked back at Harry as he opened the Peach Raspberry Creme tea and began to make them both a mug. "You aren't going to like what is in that file," he said as he pulled out plates, setting about making them sandwiches.
Harry was already moving toward his brother's desk to pick up the file. "It's as bad as we feared it was going to be?" he asked, moving to his own desk, taking a seat, and reaching out to turn on his computer.
"Worse," he picked up the steaming mugs, murmuring a levitation charm to bring the plates as he first went to Harry's desk to set the mug down beside his left hand, which he immediately reached for as the plate settled a few spaces away. "Read it."
Taking a seat at his own desk, he sipped from his mug. Turning his chair, he watched his brother set his mug down after a few sips, reaching for a notepad, a pen, and a highlighter, he then opened the file to begin reading, a frown appearing almost immediately.
After several centons, Roark shook his head in exasperation. "HADRIAN!" he barked out.
Harry's head jerked up, looking around the room with narrowed eyes even as he heard Roark chuckle. Turning his head, he glared. "Don't DO that," he said. "What?" he asked.
"EAT, brother mine," he ordered him sternly with a look to the plate with the sandwich and chips, along with his mug of rapidly cooling tea. Eyes narrowing, he waited until Harry finally picked up half of the ham sandwich and began to eat. "Thank you," he said before turning back to his own computing and beginning to input his notes on what he felt would need to be done first.
They worked silently for some time, Roark hearing occasional snorts of disbelief, as well as several muttered curses. A couple of centars later, their door chimed again, bringing both their heads up, each glancing at the clock to see that it was almost fifteen hundred.
"Enter," Roark called out, watching the door slide open... "Logan," he stood up immediately as Logan Durin entered the office, his cousins, Fili and Kili right behind him. Moving around his desk as Harry stood from his own following Roark, each giving the three warm hugs.
"Fi, Ki, how are you?" Harry asked the brothers, leaving Logan to Roark for the moment, hearing him murmur to him, concern flooding his eyes at how unnaturally pale they all were, and how exhausted they looked.
"We've definitely been better," Fili answered, "but we're surviving. How about you? Roark, you doing alright?" he asked as Logan finally drew free and moved to hug Harry.
"I'm good," he said, waving them all to the couch. "Let's take a seat and talk."
"Doing pretty good as well. Just set those bags on the floor, Ki," Harry said as he pulled a couple of chairs over.
Looking into the bags, Fili began to chuckle, shaking his blond head. "You just couldn't wait, could you?"
"Hey, he needed supplies anyway, so why NOT just make one trip and stop on my way back from Market Square," Harry quickly defended with a soft chuckle. "Besides, Roark is going to need a way to unwind, as well as shut his mind down, or else he'll be likely to fry someone..."
"Hadrian," he said warningly, earning him several chuckles.
"And we all know what I'M like if I get too stressed."
"Oh yes. Things tend to go boom in a rather spectacular way," Kili said with a grin.
"What will it be, boys? Tea? Coffee? Hot chocolate?" Roark asked as he went to the sideboard.
"Tea will be fine, Rory," Fili said as he put the bags on the floor to the side of the leather couch, before reaching for a third chair to pull close as Logan and Kili each took seats on the couch. "Oh...hh, you got the new cinnamon apple strawberry I've been wanting to try."
Roark gave a chuckle. "Harry picked out several new flavors I've not seen before, as well as a few of our regular favorites. We just tried the peach raspberry creme. It was rather good." He turned his head. "Requests?" he asked.
