It was cruel that her baby had to die before it was even born.
It was too cruel.
It was impossibly cruel.
And she wasn't going to let it happen.
Hermione felt her soul's power leaking from her eyes and from her fingers and from the very tips of her toes. Arthur and Pansy watched with awe as Hermione began to take on a dull glow. The light surrounding her grew stronger and stronger, until they had to turn away in fear of going blind. The light filled the entire clearing and once it finally subsided, they opened their eyes once more to a Hermione who was no longer bound and lying helpless on the cold hard ground, but standing there in front of them, with power radiating off of her very being.
"YOU DARE THREATEN MY CHILD?!" she screamed in an unholy voice as her eyes narrowed and scanned over the two horrified people in front of her.
Pansy shook her head franticly. "It wasn't my idea!" she pleaded and pointed her finger accusingly and Arthur. "It was all his! He's the one who sought me out and told me what to do! It's all his fault, he-"
"-SILENCE!" Hermione screamed as she lifted a hand and a white light shot from her palm and straight toward Pansy. The light hit her in the chest and sent her flying backwards to hit her head on the stone bench and be knocked unconscious.
Hermione suddenly felt the power drain from her as she fell to her knees and bowed her head. She heard Arthur chuckle with amusement as he approached her.
"I have to say, Miss. Hermione, I wasn't expecting that at all. But I suppose I should have with you. A mother can do the most amazing things when her child is in danger. But now, I must finish the job." He lifted his wand as Hermione lifted her hand to her necklace and sobbed -
"Harry. Ron. I need you..."
Hermione turned her head and watched with a faint smile as Harry and Ron apparated beside her with their wands pointed toward Arthur.
"Expelliarumus!" Harry yelled, sending Arthur's wand flying from his hand and into his own. Ron knelt down beside Hermione and brought her into his warm embrace as Harry charmed ropes to fly from his wand and tie tightly around Arthur's body.
"NO!" Arthur screamed. "You must not interfere! She must die! It's the only way, can't you see!? I promised-" Harry kicked him hard in the head, sending him unconscious.
"Hermione, where are you hurt? Harry asked, looking over her body. Ron was muttering charms to clean and heal Hermione's face. She softly shook her head.
"I-I think that I'm alright. You two..." she began to cry. "You saved my baby!" Hermione threw her arms around her best friend's necks as she brought them in for a hug. "We - we'd both be dead if it weren't for you!"
"It's alright love, we're here now," Ron said quietly as he rubbed soothing circles over her back. He lifted his gaze to Harry. "You suppose we should get her inside and checked out, just in case?"
Harry nodded. "Yes. But after that, I'm taking her back home."

Draco was waiting outside of Hermione's door with her coat still clenched in his hand. And he found, with a scowl, that pacing back and forth did nothing to sooth his racing nerves.
He then settled for leaning against the wall and thinking about what sort of nasty things he would inflict on the scum that dare threaten his family.
Imagine his surprise when he had entered the garden only to find Weasley there, with an unconscious Pansy and Arthur lying at his feet. His first reaction, was to of course, kill the red head and ask questions later.
But weasel boy was simply too fast for that. He quickly disarmed Draco and explained how the two unconscious persons had beaten and had nearly killed the woman who carried his child. Draco did not wait for Ron to continue before he'd rushed off to Hermione's room to check and see if what he said was indeed the truth.
And it was.
Potter was there waiting for him outside of her door (Strange - but he couldn't remember ever inviting them to his home...). Potter wouldn't allow Draco to enter, he said that she was being checked over and that she needed rest. Draco had thrown a fit, of course.
Who is Potter to deny me entry into a room in my home? Especially when that room holds something that I value most in my life.
Draco's brow set as he turned and pushed past Potter and opened the door. His eyes immediately adjusted to the dimness of the room as he marched over to Hermione's bedside.
The old medi witch that was with her tried to stop him before he reached her. "Lord Draco! She is fine! She just -"
"The child!" Draco yelled. "Is the child alright?!"
Draco pushed past the old witch and stopped at Hermione's bedside, only to take a step back at the emotion in her eyes as she stared up at him, with her face covered in bruises.
She bowed her head. "Your heir is fine, Malfoy. But I'm tired and I'd like to rest now. Please leave my room."
Draco was speechless as he turned and followed the witch to the door. Before exiting he took one more look back at Hermione, who had turned her head to look out the window. After shutting the door, he turned to Harry.
"Tell me what happened."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hermione sighed, a deep and tired sigh. The kind of sigh that does nothing but remind you about how exhausted you really are. The kind of sigh, that you'd hoped would release at least a tiny amount of pressure you felt building up inside of your body.
After packing her last piece of clothing, Hermione shut her trunk and sat down on top of it as she let her gaze travel around the room.
She was leaving the Malfoy Manner to go live with Harry and Ron at the Burrow. Malfoy didn't know, and by the time he would get back from the ministry from dealing with Arthur and Pansy, it would be to late.
Harry and Ron had insisted that she'd come with them. They had said that it was quite obvious she wasn't taken care of here, and that she needed someone to be with her at all times, especially with her due date so close...
--Flashback--
"Oh yeah? And why would you guys care? I've sent you HUNDREDS of letters and you haven't sent me one in return! You promised that you'd come and see me!" Hermione yelled, pointing an accusing finger at Harry and Ron.
Harry's eyes widened. "What are you talking about? We sent you a bunch of letters! The only one that we ever got from you was one saying that you were doing fine, and that we shouldn't contact you until you contact us again, because Malfoy was getting irritated. We were going to come here next week and demand to see you, because we were getting so worried!"
Hermione growled and closed her eyes...
Malfoy...
--End Flashback--
So Malfoy had stopped their letters, had he?
That was what forced Hermione to make up her mind and leave this place. This place where she could quite obviously not be a free person...
Malfoy would fight it of course. He'd demand that she'd come back and stay with him. After all she was carrying his "heir".
Hermione stood and grabbed her coat from the bed. A soft thunkcaused her eyes to travel down to the floor to see a small tattered book, that had fallen from her coat's pocket.
Hermione picked up the book and sat down on the bed as she flipped through the pages. She stopped at the thirteenth page and took her wand from her pocket as she tapped it three times and muttered "Baby Witch Names". Her eyes scanned down the page and a smile spread over her face.
Merlin. These names really are terrible...
She couldn't help but wonder what sort of names Malfoy would have come up with, if he didn't mind that the baby was a girl...
If only he wasn't so...so stupid! He was so difficult to understand, and he hid himself so often behind an expressionless mask. If only there were a book to spell out his every thought and intention...
Hermione tapped the page idly with her wand. "Like...like 'Malfoy's Journal'," Hermione giggled. "Or 'Draco's Diary'." Hermione looked back down at the pages and gasped. "Bloody....hell." The pages had transformed into a book of Malfoy's writing! Malfoy has a Dairy!
Obviously, it would be very wrong of Hermione to read through Malfoy's personal thoughts.
But...considering all that he's put her through over the years, and how he wouldn't hesitate for a single moment to read through her diary...she supposed it would be okay to take a little peak.
Hermione flipped through the pages as her eyes scanned quickly over the text. She stopped at a page and read -
Mother is dead. And I am the last living Malfoy.
I promised her last night on her death bed, that I'd marry and carry on the family line. She had tried to make me promise to marry for love, but I couldn't see how I'd ever love Pansy.
Why would I want to find love? My mother loved my father, and now she's dead. All love leads to death. Perhaps that is why my father never loved me...
Hermione flipped further through the pages.
Dammit. How could this have happened? It's not like I ever think about the dirty mudblood, or that I find her attractive in any remote way. But still - I called OUT for her...
Pansy was in shock for a couple of moments before she pulled off of me and began screaming like a banshie. I had to listen to her cry and complain throughout the whole night. I wasn't even able to sleep before potions, which was a terrible thing because it just so happened that I was "lucky" enough to be paired with Granger.
Well she did brew the whole potion by herself. But she also attempted to insult me by listing off all of the reasons why she thought I was foul...
Which reminds me, I ought to go pay back the favor and I think I hear her entering the common room now...
Hermione cringed as she turned to the next page.
Well. That was entirely...unexpected.
Unexpected and...not as unpleasant as I would have previously thought.
Hermione gasped and read on...
Granger entered the common room in a frenzy only to practically jump me and force herself on me. At first I was disgusted (by Granger or at the feelings she was arising, I'm not entirely sure...) and I tired to keep her off of me.
Well, that didn't work. She actually bound me and began touching and kissing my body. What's a Malfoy to do? I quickly took control of the situation and gave her what she wanted. Oh and she wanted it badly.
I would have never thought that she was such a lioness in bed. She surprised me, and actually made me enjoy it as well.
Though it will NEVER happen again.
She stopped for a moment and thought back to that night and the way that he made her feel. It was funny (in a sick, twisted way) that if it weren't for Pansy, none of this would ever have happened...
Hermione turned to a later page in the book and scanned her finger over the pages, searching for something important, though she didn't know what it was.
Granger has come to live with me at the manor.
It's strange how these things always seem to happen to me. Why can't I just live a normal life as a powerful man with a pureblooded wife and a few children running around my home?
Granger is carrying a Malfoy in her womb. And because of that, I cannot leave her to rot, at least not until the child is in my possession. And it will be mine. I will find a way to get rid of Granger and when I do, I'll never have to see her again. I will have fulfilled one of my promises to my mother and all I'll have to do after that is find some witch worthy enough to be called my wife.
It's strange to be home. It's quieter, but also less menacing. I no longer have to worry about father bounding into the room to beat me or my mother. I am the Lord of the Manor now. I am the only Malfoy left alive. And because of that, I am expected to act a certain way.
I've decided that as long as Granger lives here, she will be treated as a guest. I must not dishonor the Malfoy name any further by insulting my guests while they are in my home.
So that's why Malfoy's been so cold and quite all of this time! Hermione thought to herself as she lifted her gaze from the book.
He felt as if he had a role to play as the Lord of the manor, and he didn't want to treat her as he did while they were at Hogwarts, because she was now a guest in his home. It made perfect sense...
Entry Number 118.
She did it again. She forced me into a complete mess as she unraveled my very person.
Merlin! Why does she have this effect on me? How is it that no matter what I say or do, she still manages to make me hang on her every word and watch with the utmost attention as she crosses the room with one hand resting on her stomach, which houses my child?
Granger will stay with me. She is going to stay in the Manner and she's going to be the mother of my child. I wont allow her to leave here and be with some other man and carry HIS seed. Not after she's carried mine...
Hermione's eyes narrowed. What a prat. Well he's going to be in for a surprise when he gets back and finds her gone...
Entry number 120.
Tonight...was not a good night. Apart from the guests and the music, it couldn't have gone more wrong.
It all started when Granger showed up looking like...an angel.
Hermione gasped and brought the book closer to her face as she read faster down the page.
She was beautiful. And everyone there knew it. I couldn't help but feel...proud that she was was being announced as mine. And when she said my name, It almost felt like...like she wanted me as well.
But the night only got worse from there.
I was gone for only 10 minutes, and in that time, Granger was nearly killed by that whore Pansy, and by one of my most trusted servants and friends.
Arthur reluctantly told me everything. All about how my father made him promise to see to my marriage to Pansy, and that if anyone was to get in the way, or to threaten a Malfoy's honor, then he was to kill that person.
Somewhere along the line, Arthur and Pansy had met up and devised a plan in which Arthur would send Granger out to the gardens where Pansy would be waiting. Pansy would bind Hermione and keep her there until Arthur would meet them, and together they would finish the job. After that, Arthur would make it seem like a suicide, and Pansy would regain her place at my side.
Well, somehow Potter and Weasley had shown up in time to save her, and today I am to go to the ministry and take care of the two that attempted to kill Granger.
I plan on locking Pansy up for as long as possible, as for Arthur...I'm going to send him back home to Scotland, which for him, will be worse than death. He has lost his place as the Malfoy's loyal servant, and has ended generations of peace between our two families. Not to mention he's lost his honor.
As I entered her room last night, I was somewhat frantic, to be honest. I was so relieved that she was safe...I knew that she must be, with how calm Potter and Weasley were acting. But the child...I heard nothing of the child. I started to panic, and I started to think that maybe he was hurt, or that...that we had lost him.
It was amazing, the pressure that was lifted from my heart once I found that he was safe. And that she was safe. And that our future together was safe...
I don't know what I would have done if I lost them. The baby...or my Hermione.
Tears were rolling down her cheeks as Hermione finished the last page in his book.
He did care for her. He cared for her so much that it seemed to threaten his very existence...It almost sounded as if he - loved them. The baby and Hermione...
A sharp knock at the door tore Hermione from her thoughts as she franticly wiped her face and shut the book.
"Come in," she said as the door opened and Harry peaked his head inside.
"You ready to go, 'Mione?" he asked softly.
Hermione paused and she looked down at the book in her hand. Her brows set.
"Harry, I'm staying here."
"Wh-What? But why?" He asked with wide eyes.
"Because Malfoy needs us," she said as she smiled and looked down at her stomach. "He needs both of us."
------------------------------------------------------------------
Hermione was sitting on the end of her bed when Malfoy entered her room.
She looked up at him. "How did it go?" she asked as Malfoy sat on the bed next to her.
He rubbed his hands over his face and sighed. "Arthur's being transported back to Scotland. He's no longer aloud in England. Pansy's spending the night in Azkaban, and after that she'll be stripped of her wand for the next 5 years and she'll be on probation for the next 10." Hermione's eyes traveled over his exhausted face and his slumped shoulders. Her eyes softened as he turned to her with a small smile. "You - your alright though? I mean, will you be okay?" he asked.
Hermione nodded and she snaked her arm over his chest as she pulled him into a laying position on the bed and together they scooted up to the pillows. Hermione lied her head on his chest and he had one arm under her neck and wrapped around her shoulder and the other softly rubbing her tummy. Hermione's hand was lying over his heart.
And that is how they stayed through out the entire night. Even after the sun rose the next morning, Draco watched as the woman he grew to care for so strongly, slept soundly in his arms...
