Lucius turned and left the parlor. Narcissa and Draco heard him speaking with Mr. Rogan and his daughter. Draco looked at his mother’s face and the guests were heard being escorted out.
Draco could see the concern in her face, but he knew he had done what he had to. There was no way he could carry on with what his father had suggested.
Lucius came barreling in and focused on his son. Draco was on his feet and face to face with his father. “What is this absurd notion of your again?”
“It isn’t a notion father. I’ve been seeing him for some time.” Draco said.
“Not anymore.” He shouted, moving to his desk.
“There is nothing you can say or do that can make me give up who I am!” Draco yelled.
Lucius gave his son a hard shove, sending him back into the chair. “Lucius!” His mother scream and came forward grabbing his arm.
“Stay out of this Cissy!” He shook of her arm and grabbed his son by his shirtfront sending fist after fist into his face. Draco lifted his arm in defense but couldn’t deliver any punches of his own. His father deflected them all. He was only aware of bright flashes of light that went off behind his eyes. His face exploded in paid and Draco felt drops of fluid slid down his face. He was bleeding.
“Lucius, let go!” He was dropped and when he looked up to see his mother aiming her wand at his father. His fists were unclenched but Draco could see his own blood on his father’s knuckles. “You will release him and let him leave.”
“The hell I will Cissy……” He started but she screamed and cut him off.
“Shut up!” Her eyes raged. “Do I need to bring Katya into this?” Draco looked at his mother in shock. She knew names? “I could also mention the wives of several friends. Do you think me the simple wife who says nothing? Well, my dear Lucius, I just never had a reason to use what information I had. I can be a formidable enemy if I chose. Keep in mind that I have listened to every meeting you have had while pretending to read articles on fashion and jewels. You have no idea what I can do to you!”
Draco would have smiled at his mother, but his face was in too much pain. Lucius was only now realizing who he had married. “Draco, love, are you alright?” She asked.
“Yes.” He rose to his feet. “I’ll be fine.”
“Then go my dear. I will see you soon.” She never looked from her husband, who never took his eyes from hers.
“I love you mother.” He said from the door.
“I love you too my darling.” She called. Draco left Malfoy Manor secure in his mother’s ability to handle Lucius Malfoy. He began the journey to Ron’s flat with a loud crack of apparition.
He would have chosen a different method of transportation, but he didn’t have his broom. Apparition made him even more aware of the severity of his injuries but he wanted to get to Ron’s flat quickly and it was the fastest way.
He looked around then pulled the hood of his cloak on. Keeping his now painful face down, he walked the block or two to the building Ron had indicated. He found it in no time and made his way around to the flat Ron said he rented. There, as he was told, was the wooden door painted red.
He knocked and waited with his head down.
Ron was unpacking his trunk from home when the knock sounded. He quickly moved to the door and opened it, seeing the figure hunched over. “Yes?” He said.
Draco lifted his head and pulled the cloak back. Ron’s gasped and came forward, taking his boyfriend’s shoulders in his hands. Both eyes were swollen but one was puffier then the other. His nose was bleeding and several cuts around his eyes were bleeding as well. His lip was split and he had several fast forming bruises along one side of his face. “I told my father.” Draco said trying to smile but he winced instead.
“Come on, I’ll take care of you.” Ron led him inside and helped him sit on the couch. He went to get a healing kit, after sending a quick note flying through the floo.
“Where did you get the furniture?” Draco asked.
“The landlady has a storage that she let me go through. When I buy my own, I’ll give her back what I’m using. The bed is the only thing I bought and had sent over.” He said, dousing a rag with potion and gently cleaning off the dried blood.
Draco winced a little as he spoke. “I guess I wouldn’t like to sleep on a bed that came from a storage either.” Talking kept him distracted so Ron kept him talking.
“It’s one thing to get furniture your brothers have used, but when it comes to what I’m sleeping on, I want something of my own.” He said then smiled. “Our own.”
Draco gave him a one sided smile because of his split lip, but Ron saw it anyway. “I don’t think I’ll be much fun tonight though.” He said sadly.
“Do you honestly think I’d ask that of you?” He said.
“No, I know that.” Draco relaxed and let Ron clean him up. He glanced around the room.
“I know it’s not much, nothing compared to Malfoy Manor.” He said.
“Malfoy Manor isn’t exactly endearing to me right now.” He reached out for Ron’s hand. “I just want to be anywhere you are.”
Ron leaned in and gently kissed his uninjured cheek. He was holding his hand when the floo went off and Arthur Weasley walked through. He looked at Draco, his eyes darting from bruise to bruise. “He didn’t take it well then?”
Draco shook his head. “No sir.”
“Call me Arthur.” Ron brought him a chair from the kitchen, and his father sat down taking a vile from his pocket.
“You walk around with especially strong healing potions?” Draco asked when he took the vial.
“Ron, he is aware that Fred and George lived in our home isn’t he?” Arthur asked. Draco stifled a laugh, while Ron let his out. “Go on Draco, take that it will help with the pain and the worst of the swelling. The bruising will go away on its own.”
“What did your sons do that you need major pain potion that helps with swelling?” He asked, swallowing down the bright purple potion.
“Obviously you weren’t a test subject.” Arthur said with a smile. “Do you feel better?”
“Yes, actually.” Draco opened his jaw, lifted his eyebrows and made several faces, but there was no pain. “Much better. My vision has cleared up.”
“The swelling has gone down.” Ron said, with a big smile.
“Thank you so much, Arthur.” Draco told him.
“You’re welcome, but how are YOU doing?” He asked.
“Tired.” He said. Arthur understood his reluctance to talk about it and left for his own home.
“Come on, you should get some sleep. That potion my father gave you has a relaxant in it.” He said. He took Draco’s hand and led him to the bedroom.
The bed Ron had bought was big, with enough room for both of them, and it made Draco smile. He sank into the warmth and reclined against the headboard. Ron brought in his charmed sack and emptied its contents on the bed.
Draco wanted to help but Ron made him stay where he was seated in bed. He used his wand for items that were wrinkled and either hung them in the dresser or hung them in the closet beside his own clothes. He liked the way their clothes mixed together. He and Draco were finally going to have a life together.
When he was done Draco was in better spirits. His body was relaxed and he was smiling, Ron’s happiness rubbed off on him. A knock at the door sounded and Ron went to answer it.
“Hey ya.” Harry said, walking in when Ron held open the door. “We brought pizza.”
“Harry brought pizza, I brought a useful housewarming present.” Hermione said behind him holding a basket.
“That’s great.” Ron said, then glanced behind him at the bedroom door, that had shut halfway.
“Is someone here?” Harry asked with a grin.
“It’s your boyfriend, isn’t it?” Hermione said, taking a step.
“Stop.” He said, blocking her path. “It’s complicated, but I will see if he wants to come out.”
Ron went to the back and found Draco. He had changed from his trouser and shirt into jeans and a jumper. He was running a comb through his hair. “I’ll be out in a moment.” He said.
“Alright.” Draco smiled at him, proud that he wasn’t hiding anymore.
He went back to the front where Harry and Hermione had set up the table with four places. “He’ll be out in a minute.”
“This is nice Ron. Is he going to visit long?” Hermione asked as she poured drinks.
“He’s going to live here.” Ron said taking a seat.
“Don’t you think that’s rushing it?” She asked.
“No.” He said. His voice and face were very decisive and Harry jumped in right away. “That’s great, it’s a good thing we got a large.”
“So when do you……” Hermione’s voice died in her throat. Draco was standing by the hall, and while he wasn’t in pain and less swollen, his bruises and cuts had yet to fade, and were still as bad as ever.
Harry was also taking in his appearance but had better talent as getting over shock then Hermione. He now knew why Ron kept him a secret at Hogwarts and why he was now moving in. Draco’s family obviously had issues with his announcement.
“How are you Draco?” Harry asked offering a hand.
“I’ve been better.” He said, coming to sit beside Ron.
“I can see that.” Harry said.
“Harry.” Hermione said in a hushed whisper at his side. Draco and Harry exchanged a look and they began their meal. There were some things that men just did that women didn’t understand. Making light and joking about injuries was there way of getting through unusual situations. Women put more into emotions then men did, but men didn’t like to dwell on things. His face would heal, his life with Ron was beginning. Of the two, Draco would focus on the latter not the bad things.
Draco found out that Hermione was going into the potions field, having secured the patronage of Professor Snape. Harry began Auror training the following week.
“What about you Draco,” Hermione asked, “what are you going into?”
He looked from one face to another. “I’d like to see if I can get something published.” He said quietly.
“Published?” Hermione asked with a smile. “You write?”
“I have for years. I have several full novels and notebooks filled with partially finished things. Plays and poetry too.” He said, looking down at his plate.
“Why didn’t you do anything with it before?” Harry asked.
“My father was very adamant about me going into business with him. As a kid, I just wanted to be near him so I joined him when he wanted me to. When I was old enough to know what I really wanted to do, I was already too deep into it that I couldn’t say anything.” He explained.
“Well, now that your father isn’t an issue anymore, you can try and get one of them looked at.” Harry said.
“I think that would be great Draco.” Ron said, brushing his leg against his under the table. “You’d be a great writer.”
“Well, I wouldn’t know where to start.” Draco said, wondering where someone would start the process.
“Try your favorite novels.” Hermione suggested. “The publisher’s address is always listed. Check inside your favorite books and try there first.”
“That’s a good idea, I never thought of that.” He said. “Thanks.”
After dinner Draco and Ron got ready for bed. Draco came out of the bathroom in his lounge pants laughing. The bruises were still very visible but his smiling face and his happy eyes made his handsomeness shine through.
“This is weird.” He said, climbing into bed.
“What’s weird?” Ron said climbing in with him. He was also bare-chested but was wearing his shorts.
“We live together now. No more getting out of her before curfew, no more secrets, no more room of requirement.” Ron settled in beside him.
“And waking up in the morning together?” He said.
“Yes.” Draco smiled and spooned his back against Ron. “No more worrying about what may or may not get back to father.”
“No more thinking of that man.” Ron kissed the back of his neck. “I’m here for you.”
Draco turned and faced him. They lay side by side looking at each other. Draco had never felt happier then right now. Ron accepted him with practically nothing and it was amazing.
“I love you.” He whispered. Ron’s smile touched his heart.
“I love you too.” Ron said and leaned in to kiss him. He was tender and gentle, taking care because of the bruises.
Draco slept more secure then he had in months.
