The next weekend Harry, Ron and Hermione entered the Hog's Head bar in Hogsmeade. Going up to the bar, they looked around some. The few customers present all kept their faces hidden. One man had a bandaged face, a woman was covered in a long veil and several others were shrouded in hoods making them nearly look like Dementors.
“Umbridge could be under that veil...” Ron mentioned.
“Umbridge is shorter than this woman, besides we’re not doing anything forbidden anyway. It is still within the rules. Hogwarts students are allowed into the Hog's Head and to form groups with the intent of learning, as long as we don't do dark stuff. I even asked Professor Flitwick about the Hog's Head and he said it was ok, but advised us strongly to bring our own glasses.” Hermione explained.
“It's not yet forbidden.” Harry reminded her, as they reached the counter. “Three Butterbeers, please.” The Barman reached beneath the counter, pulled up three very dusty bottles and slammed them onto the counter.
“Six Sickles.” Harry passed him the silver.
“There should be a rather large group of students be coming here right now...” he mentioned, causing the veiled woman to stand up and ascend the stairs up to her room. Finally the door opened, letting the first bunch of Hogwarts students in.
After five minutes and Harry ordering a lot of Butterbeers, the bar was filled with a huge number of students. Nearly everyone who had come to view his memory was there whether they had finally dared to or not and there was even some new faces. Hermione stood up clearing her throat.
“We asked you to meet us here, because of Defence Against Dark Arts. I think you'll all agree, that Umbridge doesn't teach us anything we need to learn.”
Fred and George shouted: “Hell, right!” most of the students just gave a nod.
“Well, I thought it would be good, if we, well, took matters in our own hands.” She looked at Harry. “Harry agreed to teaching anyone interested.”
“I see how younger ones could profit from this, but I don't think a fifth year, whatever he has experienced can properly teach the sixth and seventh years,” a Ravenclaw seventh year said.
“Harry is a very powerful wizard! He can do spells even most...” Hermione went quiet, when Harry's put his hand onto her shoulder.
“I'll show you an example of what I'm able to do and you decide if I'm suited to teach you,” he declared as he raised his wand. “Don't worry, this spell can’t hurt you, unless you are a Dementor or something similar. Expecto Patronum!” The shining figure of a stag erupted from the tip of his wand, and slowly walked around in the air above the students heads. The barman tipped on Harry's shoulder.
“One Galleon for using magic in here,” he said, after Harry turned to him. Harry paid and then turned towards his fellow students again.
“If you are interested but change you mind afterwards, we won’t make you stay learning Defence with us. If you think you already learned everything I can teach you, you can either stay and help teach or leave and learn on your own. It's completely up to you. All we demand of you is to not betray us and give us away on Umbridge.”
“Is it true, that in your second year you killed a Basilisk with that sword in Dumbledore's office?” One of the students asked.
“Yeah, but if Fawkes wasn’t there I wouldn’t be here to talk about it. He damaged the eyes and brought me the Sorting Hat which is where I pulled the Gryffindor Sword out of. Fawkes healed me afterwards with his tears...”
“Dumbledore's phoenix came to help you...” someone whispered in awe.
“And all that tasks during the Triwizard Tournament last year...” he heard Cho say.
“Don't forget the first year, where he saved the Philosopher's Stone from You Know Who.” Neville mentioned.
“Now, do we all agree to taking lessons from Harry?” Hermione asked. Nobody disagreed.
“Good, now, there is the question how often we do it. I really don't think there is any point in meeting less than once a week....”
“Hang on!” said Angelina. “We have to make sure this doesn't clash with our Quidditch practise.”
“No.” Said Cho. “Nor with ours.”
“Nor ours.” added Zacharias Smith.
“I'm sure we can find a night that suits everyone.” Hermione assured them.
“I think it is really important to learn to defend ourselves.” Ernie Macmillan said. “Not only for defending us against Death Eaters and You Know Who but also for our OWLs and NEWTs. I don't know why the ministry forced such a useless teacher on us.” Hermione cleared her throat to regain their attention.
“Harry has an idea why they don't want us trained in Defence Against Dark Arts.” They all looked at Harry.
“As far as I know, Fudge fears that Dumbledore is going to form us into his private army so he can attack and then take over the ministry,” he declared.
“That's bull!” Zacharias said. “We'd never do something like that, even if Dumbledore would try to make us.”
“Tell that the ones who serve Voldemort under the Imperious curse.” Harry suggested, leaving them shocked.
“I however agree, that we wouldn't do it unless he'd resort to using it on at last some of us and he won’t do something like that.”
“Harry would just shake it of anyway...” someone mentioned.
“What I wanted to say is: They're scared of us. They are scared of their own kids and their teachers. They fail to remember, that if Dumbledore wanted to take over the ministry, he wouldn't have refused to become Minister of Magic a few years ago now would he?” Most students started to laugh.
“But this is why we have to be careful and keep this secret,” he stated. “We’re still search for a suitable location.” Hermione took out parchment and quill.
“I think everyone should write their names down here,” she said. “That way we can tell anyone when we've found a location for the first meeting.”
“I don't know if that's a good idea.” Zacharias said. “If Umbridge gets hold of that list...”
“Don't worry, I don't intent to leave it lying around. I'll make sure it never falls into their hands. Trust me.” Hermione said, playing with her wand.
Several students swallowed at her words, before they got into the line after Fred and George to sign their names beneath those of Harry, Hermione and Ron.
“The first and second years interested will be given their chance to join us.” Harry declared. “But none of you is to talk to any of them about this unless we've checked them out first.” He turned to one of the Slytherins among them.
“I will not abandon anyone because of the house they are in,” he declared. “I won’t treat anyone of you any worse because of it. But, you'll have to be especially careful. Within your House are several children whose parents are Death Eaters. We know who they are, all of them, and we even have an alley among them. He will join us at the first meeting. You might be surprised just who he is.” Most of them became uneasy.
“Relax, I trust him.” Harry said, allowing them to feel some of his power. They all relaxed, while the original guests of the bar turned to stare at him. After everyone signed Hermione took the list and stored it in her bag before all of them went their own way.
On Monday, they found an official looking post on the notice board, saying that all student organisations, societies, teams, groups and clubs were disbanded. Anyone caught attending a club that wasn't permitted by Umbridge would get expelled. Which was once more made possible by a new law.
“This isn't a coincidence.” Harry stated. “She knows.”
“We have to tell Hermione!” Ron said, trying to go up the stairs to the girls dorm and shot back down when the stairs suddenly became a slide.
“You forgot, we're not allowed there.” Harry said grinning, while he helped Ron back up. Two fourth year girls came sliding down, giggling.
“Who tried to get up?” they asked.
“Me.” Ron admitted.
“Why?”
“I wanted to get Hermione down here.” Said person came just that moment sliding down the stairs turned slide.
“Why did you want me come down?” she asked.
“Look for yourself.” Ron answered, pointing to the notice board.
“Someone must have blabbed on to her,” he stated, while she read.
“They can't have done.” Hermione replied.
“Only because you're so...” Ron started.
“No, you don't understand! The parchment was hexed. If someone had given us away to her, we'd know by now and they'd regret it.. It must have been someone from the bar. A customer or the bartender.”
“What would happen to them?” Ron asked.
“Why don't we call it a slight change in looks? A rather nasty change to be exact.”
When they reached the Great Hall all students were chatting and complaining on their houses tables about the new law and disbanding of all clubs. Fred, George, Neville, Dean and Ginny immediately came to them.
“Did you see it?”
“Do you reckon she knows?”
“What are we going to do?” They all looked at Harry.
“We are going to do it anyway, of course.” Harry replied completely calm.
“The Prefects as well?” Fred asked, looking at Ron and Hermione.
“Of course.” Hermione said coolly.
“Here come Ernie and Hannah.” Ron said. “And the Ravenclaws and Smith...”
“They can't come over now. Go stop them.” Hermione ordered. Ginny and Dean got over to stop them and sent them back.
