-That Tomato Person.
Chapter 13
Walking down the beach, Lucius ignored the pounding rain,
just wandering towards the village proper as he
thought about what had been revealed. At
some point, there had been a brief, glimmering thought that, perhaps, Jay and
Harry Potter were the same being but he had dismissed that quickly from his
mind, thinking it ludicrous and it couldn’t be.
Now, however, after Jay had revealed his true persona, he was torn about
the whole thing and unsure how to deal with it, something that was all but
unheard of when it came to him about anything.
On one hand, he enjoyed the being that he had become
acquainted with and what they had done since they had met up. Couple that with the fact that there was
something growing between the three of them and he was hard-pressed to totally
discount everything and just break it off when he found out Jay’s true
identity. However, all that was balanced
by the fact that this was, indeed, Harry Potter and he and Mr. Potter did not
have a good history. Sure, things had
been different back then, very different, and what he knew of the boy was
clouded by the way he used to view the world but he wasn’t sure that he could
set all of that aside now, even though both of them were really different
people than they used to be. But, could
he really give up what they had now just because their past wasn’t good? That he didn’t know.
As he walked, another facet to the whole thing came up;
Draco. That was going to be a huge
problem. As he well knew, some instances
of enemies during school carried over into adulthood and the beings involved
never truly got over it. He was certain
that Harry and his son were those kind. Already, that had shown itself with the
confrontation on the beach. Draco, at
this time, was already having a rough go at life over everything that had
happened. He was certain that his life
would become more of a living hell than it already was if he continued this
whole thing with Harry and the youngster came back to Britain. Sure, for a time they could hide what was
going on, especially if Harry/Jay didn’t want it known that he was back but it
would eventually come out then all hell would break loose. His son, he was sure, would about lose his
mind over it and make things impossible for him. That he didn’t like, not at all. At this point, the whole situation with Draco
was bad enough, he didn’t want to know what it would
get like if it deteriorated any further.
Sighing, he shook his head while he walked, vaguely
wondering when his life got so complicated and out of hand. He wasn’t sure when it was but he was certain
that he missed the point but was now embroiled in a mess that he wasn’t sure
how to get out of. That he didn’t like,
not at all. He was a being that liked
things to go as smoothly as possible and not have to deal with bombshells like
the one that had just been dropped.
Not paying attention to where he was going as he walked, he was
startled to find himself on the main area of the beach where most of the beings
congregated. Even though it was still
raining pretty steadily, the beach was packed.
After all, this was a Wizarding community and most knew the Impervious
spell so rain wasn’t going to bother them.
They would stay where they were and just cast it over the blanket they
were on or whatever they were doing and continue on as they were.
Loathe to be around so many beings while trying to ponder
something so serious, the elder Malfoy was about to leave the beach and take a
walk through town to see if he couldn’t find somewhere more private to walk
while he thought over what was going on but was stopped by the voice of a young
man saying, “Lord Malfoy!” Since very
few used his title anymore except in a sarcastic, sneering way, he stopped to
see if he couldn’t place the voice. When
he managed, he found himself looking at a young man about Draco’s age. Not recognizing him, he stepped over and gave
a respectful nod then asked, “Do I know you?”
Chuckling, Jay’s friend Mike said, “Yes and no. We’ve met a couple times in the past when I
was young but you’re well acquainted with my father, Lord Smythe.”
That was a name Lucius knew well.
Relaxing slightly, he nodded, “Ah yes, Aries. It’s been ages since I’ve seen him. He no longer lives in Britain, does he? He moved away if my memory serves me right.”
“No, since things started gearing up with the Dark Lord for
the second go ‘round, he’s lived here.
The only times he’s been back has been when he was dropping me off to
leave for Hogwarts.” Scooting down on
the log he was sitting on, Mike transfigured it into a comfortable bench for
them both of them then made a gesture for Lucius to join him. Offering him a bottle of a dark German beer,
he leaned back and sipped at his own.
Glancing out the corner of his eyes at the elder Malfoy while he sipped
the cold beverage, he asked, conversationally, “How are things going with
Jay? You and Professor Snape have
monopolized his time this summer.” That
last part came out with a knowing grin and a slightly devious chuckle.
Nodding, Lucius said, “There may be some… complications
there. I’m out walking to think some
things over.”
Nodding knowingly, Mike said nothing for a minute then, quietly,
asked, “He revealed who he was to you, didn’t he?”
Giving the younger man that was the son of an old friend an
askance glance, Lucius asked, “What do you mean?”
Chuckling, Mike shook his head. “We’ve all figured out, those of us that have
hung out together since Jay came along, who he was. Took us a while, that I’ll admit, but we got
it eventually.” Looking at Lucius, he
said, “Harry is a great guy, whether he goes by that name or Jay, either one.”
Understanding that both of them were on the same page,
Lucius nodded, “Yes, he revealed to Severus and I tonight just who he was. I think that, perhaps, Severus had an inkling about his true identity for a while now but I was
clueless. With the past…” that’s where
he trailed off, sipping on the dark beer, saying no more. This was odd, him even talking to someone
about something personal. But, honestly,
he needed to bend the ear of someone that was uninvolved in the whole
situation. With this being the son of
someone he knew well, he felt that he could do so. But, to make sure there were no
eavesdroppers, he quickly cast a privacy spell around them to ensure that
didn’t happen. He most certainly didn’t
want any of his private exploits being posted up in some rag in a gossip column
of some kind.
Shrugging, Mike said, “I think I know both sides of the
story pretty well. I was at Hogwarts
with both Harry and Draco though they weren’t in the same year I was so I know
the history of both them and with you.
After all, you and my father were close for a long time.” Stopping, the younger man took another drink
then continued on, “I know it can’t have been easy for you after all that mess
with the 2nd rising of the Dark Lord.”
“True, it wasn’t,” Lucius conceded with a nod.
“But, I’m guessing, since then circumstances have changed
and so have you. Am I not right?” He asked, looking at the blonde.
“But of course,” Lucius said, shrugging.
“It’s been 10 years since all that mess, Harry has
too.” Stopping, Mike shook his
head. “Think about it Lucius… Why do you
think he lives here?”
Giving the younger man a puzzled look, Lucius replied, “I’m
not sure if I get the reasoning behind that question.”
Grinning, Mike shook his head. “Alright, I’ll try to explain. All of us that live here year ‘round are here
for one reason; we’re hiding from something.
Dad moved here to hide from what was going on at home. Other friend’s parents did the same
thing. Still others came after the mess
to hide from what happened. Harry is
here to hide as well, from himself and who he is along
with all that went on.”
Snorting, Lucius shook his head, “Why would he need to hide? He could have everything he ever wanted back
home. He is the conquering hero after
all.”
Snorting, Mike just sighed, “Really? You think so?”
“The young man is fawned over and adored by all. His life would be perfect,” Lucius imparted
haughtily.
“I don’t think so Lucius.
I think that Harry’s life would be much like yours. He couldn’t go anywhere or do anything
without people mobbing him or talking about him. Though his would be hero worship and not the
same thing you and Draco are going though, it would be just as tough. Nor would he ever be left alone to do anything
he wanted without the taint of his name getting involved in the whole
thing. You and he are a lot alike in
that aspect, though for different reasons.”
Stopping, Mike looked out towards the ocean, thinking, then said, quietly, “From what I gather, all he wants is to
be left alone to live his life as he sees fit and be happy, nothing else. That he’s never going to be allowed to
do. So he left it all behind and became
Jay. Here, he can do that because no one
knows who he is. Sure, some of us figured
it out but it doesn’t matter. We
understand it and don’t care about a name, he’s Jay to us and deserves to live
the life he wants but others wouldn’t see it that way.”
Looking at Mike, Lucius thought over what he said. At first, he wanted to scoff at it, to tell
the young man that he was wrong but he didn’t.
Instead, he pondered it harder.
The more he did that, the more he thought that Mike might be right.
Potter wasn’t ever going to be left alone at home. Even ten years later, people would be clamoring
for him though the war had been over for a decade. If he were to show back up, he would once
more be in a spotlight that he would never be able to shake. Much the same way he and Draco were but for
different reasons. His view of Harry was
one that was still based on a prejudiced point of view from the past when he
was the follower of the greatest evil that their time had ever seen. He no longer looked at things the same way he
did then but he still continued to see Potter that way. That wasn’t the way it was. Since spending time with ‘Jay’, he knew that
he wasn’t the same being he always thought Harry to be. In fact, he liked the being Jay was and
adored spending time with him. Hell, he
wanted Jay to come back home with them so things could continue on. Any of those traits that he had thought he
disliked about Harry Potter hadn’t shown themselves. If they were there, they would have done so
by that point without a doubt. But they
didn’t. Jay wasn’t arrogant or stuck up,
thinking himself better than the rest of the world or entitled to things
because of a name, he was a fun, humorous young man that seemed to just want to
enjoy life and be allowed to live it the way he wanted to and be left alone by
the rest of the world.
Sighing, Lucius gazed down the beach, trying to sort through
some of what Mike had said and meld it with the current situation he was
pondering. It wasn’t easy since his
point of view had always been so different of the young man. But, slowly, the two things began to coalesce
together and form something, he just didn’t know what. However, it was making things more palatable
for him.
Looking at Lucius, Mike grinned slightly wickedly then said,
“The three of you were getting along fine from what I understand. Hell, you and Professor Snape came back here
just to see him. What does it matter
whether he goes by Jay or Harry? They
are the same person. From what I can
remember of things, Harry is acting the same way now and has about the same
personality as he did at Hogwarts. Sure,
like all of us, he’s matured a bit but he’s basically the same being he’s
always been. You just didn’t have the
blinders on that you always did when it came to him is all and are now seeing
what he’s really like.” Stopping, he
turned to face Lucius, crossing one leg over the other then said, “He likes
you, you like him, that’s very obvious to all that have seen you together so
what does it matter? I mean, he’s gotten
over who you are, why can’t you do the same?
Hell, the way Harry felt about you back then was
obvious to everyone but he’s apparently seen past it.”
Again, that wasn’t something that Lucius had thought of
either. Harry, in the past, had felt the
same way about him that he did Harry.
But he had, somehow, managed to put them aside and allow the two of them
to grow close despite their pasts. If it
had been him hiding and Harry had shown up that first time in the bar, he would
have walked out without looking back but Harry hadn’t. He had given him a second chance then allowed
things to grow from there. If someone
like Potter could do that, shouldn’t he be able to as well? Especially since he did like where this was
going and how it was developing, wanting it to go further from there.
Clearing his throat, he said, “I think, Mike, you have
giving me food for thought on the matter.
It will be something that I should ponder carefully before I make a
decision one way or another.”
“Hey, just something to think about. I’ve seen the three of you together since you
and the professor came back. All of you are happy, so why ruin it? Go for it I say. It isn’t like something such as this will
come around often. Go with the flow and
see where it leads,” Mike grinned, winking at the elder Malfoy.
Nodding, Lucius smirked slightly. “That, Mike, I will concede. I will most certainly ponder it carefully.”
Settling back, the younger man drained his bottle then set
it aside before his face schooled into a more serious look. “While I have you here, I was wondering if
you could do something for me.”
Eyebrow arching slightly, Lucius looked at him, wary, then asked, “What would that be?”
“You and dad were close for a long time. I was wondering if you could talk to
him. We’ve hidden out here too long and
he needs to get over mom and what happened.
Going home would be nice. I miss
it there. Maybe you could talk to
him? It’s been a while since anyone he
knew from home did that.”
Relaxing, Lucius nodded without thinking about it. “That is something I can do. Aries has hidden away for a long time. Perhaps going home would do him good.” From what he could remember of the events,
Lord Smythe had stayed out of much of the mess during
the first terrible reign of the Dark Lord, not taking sides. But his wife, Katarina, hadn’t. A Russian born pureblood, she saw things
differently than many of the purebloods in Britain, seeing half-bloods and
muggleborns as the same as purebloods.
Vocal about that, the Dark Lord had taken exception to the blood traitor
and had ordered her killed. It was a
blow Aries hadn’t gotten over since he adored her, breaking his heart in a way
he had never really recovered from. So
when it looked like the Dark Lord was going to make his return, Aries had left,
not wanting his son to be involved if things took the path they looked like
they were. “I’ll tell you what, before I
leave I’ll make it a point to stop by and see your father. It will be nice to talk to an old friend such
as him. When doing that, I’ll see if I can’t persuade him to return to where he
belongs. He would be most assuredly
welcome and needed at home.”
“Thanks, I appreciate it,” Mike said with a nod. Dropping his voice, he said, “Honestly
Lucius, Harry is a great guy, give him a chance and don’t let the name drag you
down.” Then after a friendly wave, the
younger man stood and made his way back to where his friends were to say
goodnight before heading off home.
Sitting there, watching the son of his old friend leave,
Lucius thought about what he said but felt that he needed to turn it over in
his mind a bit more before making a decision one way or another. Relaxing back on the bench, he stared out
over the lapping waves and let himself ponder the whole thing more.
It was well after midnight and the beach was deserted except
for a few drunken partiers when Lucius finally roused himself and started the
long walk back to Jay/Harry’s home. He
had thought long and hard about the whole thing and what Mike had said then
come to a conclusion. Looking at the
ground as he made his way slowly back from where he had originally come, he
knew that some beings were going to be very unhappy about what he decided and
he was going to second guess this forever until things settled down but this is
what he felt he should do and he wasn’t going to change his mind.
As he made his way slowly in that direction, he tried to come up with the best
way to go about this, not sure how he should really do it. However, he wasn’t going to let himself slack
off or rethink his choice. He had to
hold firm. He had thought it through
thoroughly and come up with his decision so he was going to stick to it.
Lifting his head, putting more determination in his step, he
moved faster towards his destination, goal firmly in mind. Tonight, there were going to be some changes
and it was best that they be dealt with sooner than later.
Harry and Severus were lounging in the room, talking quietly
about all kinds of things, trying to avoid the topic of Lucius because neither
knew what his leanings were on this, when Lucius stepped back in. Propping his cane against one wall, the older
Malfoy removed the Impervious then walked over and sat down in a chair by where
the two were.
Sitting up, both Harry and Severus looked at him, staying
quiet, waiting to see what he had to say.
Though Severus was of the mindset that his old friend would get over the
shock and things would continue on as they were, Harry wasn’t so sure about
that. After all, he and Lucius had a
rather dark past together that might be hard for him to get over. Not to mention the fact that he was the same
age as his son. Though he was all for
continuing this, though still unsure about going back home, he wasn’t sure that
Lucius could accept it all, putting him on edge.
After taking a cup of hot tea that one of the house elves
brought to him, Lucius took a bracing drink then set it aside before looking at
the other two men in the room. With an
internal sigh and bracing of himself, he launched in. “I thought the whole situation over and
looked at it from many angles. While out,
I also talked to your friend Mike, Harry.
As it turns out I know his father.
I should warn you though, most of your friends here have figured out
your secret,” he told the younger man with a bit of a smirk. Sobering up, serious look once more sliding
into place, he pressed on, “I do have to say, Mike had many interesting things to
say on the topic, all of them very astute and from a perspective that I didn’t
have before speaking to him.” Stopping,
he took a deep breath then continued on, voice more firm and determined than it
was before, “I’ve come to the conclusion that, with all that has gone on
between the two of us in the past, if you were able to overcome it and allow
what has happened between us to come about then so can I. After all, I’ve enjoyed this time together as
much as you have. I knew that you were
hiding behind the persona of Jay and that wasn’t who you really were and
accepted that early on. Now that it’s
revealed who you are, I believe it’s something I can accept. After all, once I talked to Mike, I have a
better feeling as to why you did such a thing.”
Lifting his eyes, he looked at Harry, smirking, then
said, “Let’s see where this leads the three of us, shall we? It should be a fun ride from here on out I
would think.”
Nodding in approval, Severus said, “That, Lucius,
is a wise choice. I think we can make it
work.”
Grinning, Harry also nodded, “Let’s do it!
Might take some getting used to on your end,
but we’ve managed fine until now. I
don’t see why we can’t make it work.”
Chuckling a bit, he then shook his head and said, “I assumed some of the
Bums had figured it out by now and was sure Mike did, they just never said
anything is all.”
Settling back, much more relaxed, Lucius nodded to the both
of them then looked at Harry, “I just wanted you to know they did but it
doesn’t seem to make any difference and I doubt they will spill your
secret.” Changing topics, he said,
“However, though I’ve agreed to this, there is going to be some working out to
do before Severus and I have to go back.”
Arching an eyebrow, he looked at the dark haired young man then smirked,
“We still have to discuss this suggestion that Severus and I had of you coming
home Harry. But, for now, we won’t talk
about it. With the time for us to leave
approaching, it does have to come but tonight has been dramatic enough for my
tastes; it’s time to have some fun to alleviate the stress. What say you two?”
Laughing, eyes twinkling merrily, Harry just shook his
head. When Lucius said something like
this it was thinly veiled euphemism for suggesting a round of sex. Happy that things were working out and his
secret wasn’t one anymore, he was more than willing to have some fun now that
the stress was gone. Standing up, he
slowly peeled his clothes off then leisurely made his way to the door, not
looking at either of the men in the room.
After opening it and being about ready to step outside, he looked back
at them over his shoulder, grinning and said, “You two coming or am I going to
be doing this alone?” With a roguish
wink at the both of them, he sauntered out, heading towards the bedroom that
they had occupied since coming back.
