Living Chapter 14:
Waiting for Severus in the Room of Requirement was making Hermione jumpy. She knew that she was perfectly safe there, especially because she'd told the room that only Professor Severus Snape could enter the room while she was there.
The room had provided a nice, black leather couch, two floor lamps, a roaring fire in the fireplace, and a tea set with a variety of her favorite snacks at the side. She wandered over to the bookcase that the room had given her after she'd asked for some reading material. There were many books on potions, charms, runes and transfiguration. Funny enough, there were also books on the last wizarding war. Why would she want that? Unless the room knew something that they needed that was included in the books.
As the door opened she whipped around only to see Severus walking through. "Were you expecting someone else? By the look on your face you seemed shocked to see me waking through the door." He gave her a look somewhere in-between a sneer and a grin.
"Of course I knew it would be you. I was just startled by how fast you opened the door." She knew it sounded like a dumb excuse, but that was all that she had for the moment.
Severus walked over to stand in front of her. He reached up to brush the hair back behind her ear. Hermione felt it was a surreal moment having her stern potions professor do something so gentle. "I know that you're worried about who is threatening us. I have to admit that I'm also concerned." He leaned forward and ran his fingers along her jawline. "But, I'll not let anything happen to you."
Hermione felt her skin tingle where he touched her. She knew that this man meant what he said. She'd always believed that Severus Snape had goodness in him.
"I believe in you fully Severus, but it scares me that we don't have the upper hand in this." Hermione walked around him to go and sit down on the leather couch. She reached over to take one of the chunky, chocolate biscuits with almonds that she loved.
Severus came to sit beside her. Hermione reached for another biscuit, "Would you like one?" and he shook his head no. "They're really good," she said as she finished eating the second one while licking the chocolate icing from her finger.
"I'm not really hungry right now." Severus said as he watched her eat a third biscuit. He seemed to be fascinated watching her eat and lick at her biscuit and then her fingers.
"I'm not hungry either, but I seem to eat a bit more when I'm nervous." Hermione admitted. Severus cocked his eyebrow at her words, and snickered at her words. She continued sucking up and down her fingers while watching the dark haired wizard squirm in his seat.
Trying to shake himself out of a daze, Severus asked her, "Have you noticed anyone strange following you around the past few days?"
"This is Hogwarts. It has so many students, how am I supposed to decide if someone is following me and if they are strange?" Hermione wasn't sure how she was to determine this.
"We mainly need to look at when you were wandering about at night. I know it would be hard during the day with so many students in the halls." Severus sat forward with his arms on his legs, hands clasped together. "It's just frustrating that they have us running scared and are attacking us. I hate to say this, but I need to talk to Harry again."
"We can meet up here in a few hours. I'll bring Harry and then we can ask him the same questions." Hermione stood and walked over to the fireplace. She placed her hands onto the bricks. "Room of Requirement, you may also let Harry Potter enter this room while me, Hermione Granger and Severus Snape are here." She looked over at the dark haired wizard who gave her a knowing grin. Hermione thought of how she could get used to this Severus Snape.
"You leave first and I'll be right behind you. I'm not letting you walk around here by yourself anymore." He walked over and took her in his arms. They stood there for a few minutes as Hermione leaned her head onto his chest. She took a deep breath as she felt his heart beating as fast as hers.
"I meant what I said about protecting you." He made sure that her eyes met his. Then he leaned in to kiss her lips. She was lost as he increased the pressure of the kiss, opening her mouth to taste the sweetness on her tongue. Hermione pressed back as her hands wound around her wizard's neck.
Many minutes later, they were able to untangle themselves from the other long enough to leave. Severus was far enough back from her to watch, but close enough to make sure she made it to Gryffindor Tower without incidence. It was time to be a spy again. He'd been able to fool one of the greatest, evil wizards of all time. He could now defeat the person who was foolish enough to think they could take him on; especially now that he had someone worthwhile to fight for, along with his own happiness.

Hermione walked into the Gryffindor common room and saw all of her friends chatting and having a good time. Of course, not a one of them were studying. Also, none of them were carrying a heavy burden as she was at the moment. She looked around the room for Harry. She finally spotted him in the corner melded with Ginny. Should she go and interrupt? Of course they could snog anytime they wanted, but Harry was needed now. Severus wouldn't be happy if they didn't show up on time.
Hermione skirted her way over to the couple that apparently wasn't coming up for air any time soon. She could feel her own cheeks blushing with having to approach them, even though she'd been doing the same thing with her potions professor less than an hour before.
"Harry… Ginny, I hate to interrupt." Hermione said. The couple on the couch still continued on with their kissing and groping. "Harry, excuse me for a minute." If she didn't know better, someone had cast Epoixmise on them seeing how they appeared glued together.
It seemed nothing was going to get their attention unless she did something drastic. She pointed her wand up to the high ceilings, "Periculum" she shouted and red sparks shot upward filling the common room. Harry and Ginny both shot off of the couch. Ron and Dean were so startled that the chess set they were playing with flew threw the air with all of the pieces running away screaming. Parvati and Seamus who'd been snuggling by the fire bonked heads as the red sparks fell around them.
"Bloody Hell Hermione! What is wrong with you?" Ron came thundering over to grab her arm.
"Stop that Ronald that hurts." Ron continued to glare at her as he tightened his grip on her arm.
Harry rushed in-between them, "Let go Ron." Harry's hands came out to grab at him causing Ron's nails to rake over Hermione's arm. "What's wrong Hermione?" His face clearly showed panic as he wondered at her behavior.
"I need to talk to you alone Harry…now" Hermione said loud enough for him to hear, but hoped that no one else did.
"What do you need to talk to him about?" Ron asked with an abrasive tone. "Keeping secrets again, aren't you?"
"Ron it's none of your business." Hermione cradled her arm against her chest. "Harry you need to come with me, please."
"Why can't we come too?" Ron said and Ginny nodded in agreement next to him.
Hermione rolled her eyes and turned to leave, not stopping to answer any of the Weasleys right now. Harry shrugged his shoulders and gave Ginny a quick kiss goodbye. He hurried after Hermione not wanting to lose her.
He climbed out of the portrait hole to find Hermione nervously pacing back and forth waiting for him. She looked around the hallway in both directions as if expecting someone to come walking up to them. "Harry, follow me and we can't talk about anything until we get to…well until we get there." Harry looked at her strangely but followed.

As soon as they entered the Room of Requirement Harry's eyes lit up with understanding when he saw the surly Professor Snape standing by the fireplace.
"So why all of the secrets? You could have told me what this was all about." Harry seemed a little put out.
"No Potter. Hermione was being cautious like I told her. We've all been watched and followed the past several days." Severus spoke as if he was giving a lecture. "You of all people should know this after having your noggin bashed last night."
Harry reached up to rub his head where that bashing had occurred. Hermione walked over to Severus. "It took forever to get Harry's lips unglued from Ginny's." Harry sheepishly looked over at her, while Severus sneered at the younger man.
"Yeah, with a quick Periculum in the Gryffindor common room she finally got our attention. Shite Hermione you scared everyone to death." Harry smiled at her.
"That's my girl!" Severus pulled Hermione into him, while Harry's eyebrows shot up. There was no reason to keep their relationship from Harry now that they'd need to work with him.
"Ouch!" Hermione flinched as Severus hugged her. She held her arm against her chest again. She realized what she'd said and tried to hide it from the worried man.
"What happened Hermione?" he reached out gently to take her arm. "Who did this to you?" Severus's voice began to rise with irritation.
His eyes went first to Harry who put his hands in the air, "It wasn't me," he said wanting to show his innocence seeing Snape's temper was almost at a boiling point.
Hermione realized in their hurry they'd forgotten to heal her arm. "It's Ok, I'm fine." She tried to move her arm from Severus's stare.
"It damn well is not fine! You are bruised and those are fingernail gouges." Hermione could feel the heat coming from him. She looked over to Harry who was trying not to look at either her or Snape.
"I will find out one way or another so you better tell… me… now!" Hermione knew better than to fight him when he demanded in such a forceful tone.
"Ron was upset that.."
"That git better hope he can run and hide from me. If I get my hands on him…" Hermione reached up and put her fingers on his lips.
"Severus no, it was an accident." Her eyes tried to plead with him not to go after Ron.
"Potter, did it look like an accident to you?" Harry's head came up to meet Snape's eyes. With their history together, and it finally getting better, he didn't want to damage it again by lying.
"No Sir, it wasn't an accident. He was angry at Hermione for keeping secrets from him and Ginny." He confessed as easily as if he'd taken Veritaserum.
"Harry!" Hermione was feeling really panicked now and worried for Ron.
"My question is why you're trying to defend him. Especially after how he's been treating you." Severus was almost shouting now. Then he looked up at Hermione's face and saw the tears starting to form in her eyes. Severus took a deep breath. He drew out his wand, lifted up her arm again and spoke a healing spell. The bruising and scratches soon cleared up.
"Thank you Severus. We have more important things to worry about than Ron being in a snit because he was excluded." This caused Harry to laugh loudly, which then made Severus smile.
"Never again though. If he touches you like this ever, again, he'll pay and it won't be comfortable for him." He bent forward and laid kisses along her arm that he'd just healed.
Hermione glanced over to Harry who had a silly grin on his face. Never in a million years did she think Harry would approve of her and their snarky potions professor getting together.
"It's time to discuss what happened the other night Harry." Hermione shifted the conversation away from her by sitting down on the leather couch.
"Indeed. What do you recall from yesterday and last evening?" Severus came and sat down next to Hermione swinging his arm around the back of her. It felt very comfortable to be sitting so closely together, even in Harry's presence.
Harry found a nice high backed cushioned chair. He sat back and appeared to be relaxed. "I've been trying to go back over anything that was different from any other day. Nothing is standing out." He seemed to be frustrated with this. "In fact, things still seem fuzzy when I try to think back to last night. I can't remember squat except I was outside of the library, and it's driving me spare."
"Fuck!" Severus leaned forward at the same time as Hermione.
She turned to the tall man next to her, "Are you thinking the same thing I am?"
"Yes, indeed I am." Severus sat looking at Harry with an intense look on his face.
"What? What are you two brains rattling off about?" Harry looked confused about what the other two seemed to be thinking.
Severus stood up and walked over to Harry. His hand cupped Harry's chin, "May I look into your mind Potter?" The pieces appeared to be finally clicking together for Harry. He gave a slight nod to his professor. "I promise this won't be painful this time." Harry grimaced at his words thinking back to fifth year when Snape tried to train him in Occlumency.
"Legilimens" the words were spoken softly while Hermione watched the two most important men in her life actually trying to work together. She could see that whatever Severus was seeing was not a good thing. Harry was also trying hard to withstand his mind once again being invaded. Hermione knew, that if there was anyone here at Hogwarts who could figure out the workings of the mind, it was Professor Severus Snape.
After a few minutes, Severus stepped back and Harry slumped forward with his head in his hands. "Well?" Hermione couldn't hold back her question, even though she knew in her heart what he was going to say.
Severus stood there with pinched lips, "Congratulations Mr. Potter, you've been Obliviated."
