-Chapter Fourteen-
“Maybe this wasn't such a good idea.” Harry mumbled, forcing himself to not cover his stomach to hide it from all of the vultures staring at him. The last thing he wanted to do was to let them know he was pregnant. They were strangers and strangers didn't need to know he was pregnant until he started showing.
“Relax love.” Draco said, wrapping an arm around Harry's waist and pulling him close. “Just ignore them and have a great day.”
“I'll try.” Harry said. “You know, they do seem really reluctant to get too close.”
“You're with a Malfoy, of course they don't want to get too close.” Draco said, flashing an evil grin causing a nearby group to back away.
Laughing, Harry leaned in and pressed a quick kiss to Draco's cheek as they approached a small building that was hidden in the shadows of Gringotts.
“I never knew this was here.” He said as Draco opened the door and ushered him in.
“I think that's why it's here. No one looks here because they're too focused on Gringotts and my lawyer, Mr. Laufey is very selective about whom he takes on as clients.”
“He's not prejudiced is he?” Harry asked.
“No not at all. He takes on any client as long as they can honestly say or prove that they are, indeed, innocent. He will not help you if you've truly broken the law.”
“Oh I thought you had the lawyer that tried to say your father was really innocent back after the end of the war.”
Snorting, Draco nodded at the receptionist who moved to a closed door with the name D. Laufey on it and stepped inside after opening it.
“No our family only had him because he was the only lawyer willing to defend a Death Eater. Honestly that man could not win a case if all of the needed proof was handed to him. Mother and I fired him, gleefully I might add, as soon as father was locked up and our possessions returned to us.”
“Well I'm glad to hear it. I never understood why your family was willing to be associated with someone that always lost.”
“Embarrassing, yes, but it did end up leading my father to an appropriate fate so I can't complain about the embarrassment too much.” Draco said as the receptionist stepped back out of the room and motioned for them to enter.
Walking into the room, Draco helped Harry into one of the cushy chairs before sitting down in his own in front of the large, dark, oak wood desk.
They were only alone in the room for a few seconds before a door off to their left opened and a tall, dark-but graying, haired man stepped in.
“Ah Draco, punctual as always. Only the one item to cover today?” He asked, while looking at the folder in his hands.
“Two actually.” Draco said, taking Harry's hand in his and playing with his fingers.
“Of course. Which one would you like to cover first?”
“Let's take care of the scheduled one first. That's the quickest one.”
Nodding, Mr Laufey sat down in his own chair then pulled out a few pieces of parchment and grabbed a quill out of a pot of ink.
“So just to refresh my memory, you're adding your mate and future husband onto the family tree and onto your will and accounts.”
“Yes I am.”
“But we aren't married yet...shouldn't we be waiting?” Harry asked.
“Love, we're as good as married and I don't plan on not marrying you so why wait? Honestly, this is just us being smart and taking care of all this paperwork so we can enjoy our wedding and honeymoon without stressing about all of this paperwork then.”
“He's right. Others would stress less if they came in and had all of this paperwork filled out and completed before the wedding. It causes a lot more stress if they wait until after the wedding because they only have a certain amount of time to file the paperwork once they're married without incurring any fees.” Mr Laufey said, nodding his head.
“Oh okay.” Harry said with a nod.
“If you'd like, Mr Potter, I'd be willing to take on your will and any of your legal accounts since you'll be a Malfoy, but you have the right to stay with your current legal aid.”
“I don't have any current legal aid.” Harry said.
“You should every Wizard is supposed to have one considering it is mandatory that a witch or wizard has to have a will during times of war and a legal aid has to hold them.”
“I've never met or spoken to them if I do.” Harry said with a frown.
“Hmm curious. If you'd like for me to take over as your Lawyer I can look into it. You'd just need to sign the necessary papers giving me the right to.”
“What do you think, Draco?” Harry asked, turning to his mate.
“It is ultimately your decision, but Mr Laufey is, as I said, a man that does right by the people who come to him and by the law as well.”
“It would probably be best to. If Draco tells me that I can trust your council then I should and considering I don't know who my current one is then I should get a council that I can trust.”
“Wonderful. If you both will sign these papers right here I'll go and get the necessary papers from my receptionist for you to sign taking on me as your Lawyer and council should you need it.” He said, handing them a few sheets of parchment. Read it over and then sign them and I'll be right back in.”
As he walked out of the room, Harry leaned onto Draco's side and quickly skimmed the papers as Draco picked up a quill and scribbled his signature across the papers then handed the quill to him.
Scrawling his own name on them, Harry set the quill back in the jar of ink as the man walked back into the room with a few more papers in his hand.
Exchanging the papers for the ones that had been signed, he said, “Wonderful. Now all you need to do is sign on the bottom of all the pages, but if you wish to read them through first go ahead and do that. I do have a few sections highlighted that most of my clients wish to know about, but if you want to read it all, as I said, please go ahead and do that.”
Nodding with a smile, Harry flipped through the pages, reading the highlighted paragraphs that talked about client confidentiality, any and all fees that would be incurred during trials, and more important information.
As he started to sign the papers, he heard Draco start explaining about Rita Skeeter and her methods of gaining information.
Sliding the papers across to his new lawyer, Harry placed the quill in the pot of ink again then reached over and laced his fingers with Draco's.
“Okay so first, I'm going to have to ask, do you have proof of this?” Mr. Laufey asked, turning towards Harry.
“I have my memories of it, which I'm more than willing to give.” Harry said, with a nod.
“Good, good. Now I believe we will be able to get her with the actions of being an illegal Animagus, but I do not know about her false and harmful statements about you. While it can be said that it was pure, malicious slander and libel, I believe we're well after the Statute of Limitation so we may not be able to do anything about that.”
“Honestly I don't care if she retracts any and all of the articles she's written about me. I'm long past caring about the opinions of the citizens of the Wizarding world. I just don't want her to be able to write anything more especially since I'm carrying Draco's and my first child. I don't want them having to deal with growing up with articles, false articles, being written about them or his or her parents. I will not stand for that happening. I won't have them going through what I went through growing up.” Harry said with a frown.
As Draco kissed Harry's knuckles, Mr. Laufey said, “And I will do my best to keep that from happening. We may have to go the route with having her arrested and removed from her position because of being an illegal Animagus. If that happens you may have to go to court to be a witness against her...is that something that you would be willing to do?”
“Yes it is. She needs to be taken care of and if going to court will make that happen then I'm more than willing to do it. Are you going to need my memories right now?” He asked.
“No I'm going to try and scare her into stopping on her own since you're pregnant I doubt you want the stress of having to go to court, but if that doesn't work then I'll contact you about coming in and giving me the memories.”
“I'd be willing to come back and give you a pensive with my memories in them if she gives you any problems.”
“Wonderful. Now if that's all for today, gentlemen, I'd like to get started on this matter and the other for Mr. Potter.” Mr. Laufey said, standing up.
“Of course. We have some other business to attend to in the Alley, but we'll be at home most days if you need to be in touch with us.” Draco said, helping Harry up from his chair.
“I shall do that. Have a good day gentlemen.” He said as they left the room.
Leading Harry out of the office, Draco nodded at the receptionist and then the two left the office heading back out into the busy alley.
“Well that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.” Harry admitted, ignoring the stares at both of them and at Draco's hand at the small of his back.
“It never is. I must say he must be eager to get working though since he all but rushed us out of the office at the end, but he's always eager when he gets to make people pay for doing the wrong things to his clients.” Draco said with a smirk.
Walking towards Twilfitt and Tatting's, Harry saw Bump's Boutique about four shops down from it.
“We'll stop there after we get you some clothes, how does that sound?” Draco asked, following Harry's eyes.
“Do you think it would be a good idea to go today?” Harry asked, glancing towards a group of gossipers that were pointing at his ring and the two of them.
“They're going to find out eventually love. Just ignore them and don't let them ruin our day or any plans we have.” Draco whispered in his ear, pressing a kiss against it.
“Alright...lets go before I just decide to go home.” Harry said, straightening his back and heading to the store.
Stepping into the small store, Harry looked around at the displays of the robes and clothes the store sold. Heading over to the small section that had a floating sign that said maternity, they were instantly greeted by the associate there.
Giving his mate a slight push so that he was in front, Harry said, “This is your show, Draco. I have no idea what to ask for so go ahead and do your thing.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nearly two hours later, the two were leaving the store with four bags filled with both maternity and normal clothes and robes.
Walking down to Bump's Boutique, Harry cringed as he heard the whispers increasing. He wished they would stop staring and do what they had to do instead of focusing on him. He was sure many of them had stayed in the alley since he was there.
“Lets go before I lose my nerve.” He said, opening the door and stepping inside.
Once inside a nice blast of warm air hit them and an associate smiled and welcomed them, asking if they needed help finding any thing.
“We're just going to look around, thank you.” Harry said with a kind smile.
Heading into the first aisle of the moderately large store, Harry looked around at all the baby things and couldn't resist stroking his stomach only to encounter Draco's hand...apparently he had the same thoughts.
“You know, we probably won't be able to pick up some of this for a little while. We don't know a gender and I kind of want to be able to set up the baby's room with gender appropriate things.” Draco said.
“Yeah, but at least we can look around and get some ideas.” Harry said reaching out and touching a soft pink blanket with a spot to have the baby's name put on it.
“Why don't we go and look around at the cribs and see if there's one we'd like to get?” Draco suggested.
“Probably a good idea because I'm likely to start buying some of these things and then have to return them.”
Heading towards the back of the store where there was a few cribs set up, the two looked between them, feeling a little lost.
“Hard to choose isn't it?” A female voice asked from beside them.
“Yeah just a little.” Draco said, looking at the older woman with an employee robe and name tag on.
“If I can make a suggestion?”
“Of course we'd appreciate it.” Harry said with a smile.
“We have these 2 models over here they're convertible cribs.” She said leading them over to two different cribs. One was a light color and the other a darker, espresso color. “They convert from the crib into a toddler bed or even into a full sized bed and this right here is an detachable changing table for when you convert it from a crib it can be moved and used as a dresser. They cost a little more right now, but they last and you won't need to buy a whole new bed once your baby is old enough for a new bed.”
“How sturdy are they if they're convertible? Do they hold together well?” Harry asked.
“They do. I got one when my youngest was born and it's great. We didn't need to spend more when he was old enough for a toddler bed all we did was get a new mattress for the bed and it was good to go.”
Nodding, Draco and Harry shared a look before looking at the two cribs.
“I understand this is a big purchase to make so I'm going to suggest that you pick up the catalog we have at the counter where you check out. It has everything we sell in the store and things that we don't, but we can order. It tells you more about the items and you can even order them. All you have to do is send an owl with the order form that's at the back of the catalog.”
“I think we'll do that. I think we'd like to spend some more time looking at everything.” Draco said.
“That's a good idea. I suggest that to every first time parent that comes in looking lost, but most decide to go with what ever is the most expensive thinking it's the best.”
Smiling, Harry said, “Well we'll be taking advantage of your suggestion so thank you.”
“You're welcome. Did you want any more help or information?” She asked.
“No I think we're pretty much done.” Draco said, looking at Harry who nodded.
“Well I hope you'll come back in when you make some decisions.” She said with a smile before heading off towards another wide eyed, couple looking around like they were lost.
“Ready to head out, love? We can stop and pick up the catalog before we leave.” Draco said.
“Yeah we can go.” Harry said with a nod, allowing Draco to lead him to the counter where they picked up the available catalog and headed out of the store and towards the edge of the wards where they finally left for home amidst the chatter that started up when they disappeared, rumors already spreading about the hero and his companion.
