Author's Note: I apologize in taking so long to post this. To be honest I thought I had and then I got really sick with whatever bug is going around. I will be posting several chapters with this update.
Thank you all for the wonderful reviews and the votes. I appreciate them all.
"That is the weirdest chicken I have ever seen," Faith said as she looked at Fawkes. "Why are you going to bond with it? You're into bestiality? Well I guess since it's a chicken it's not bestiality it’s avian... or well something with birds. I mean I've heard of feather fetishes, but that is just out there." She wasn't sure who gave her the more affronted look; the chicken or Severus. "What?" she asked looking around at the others who were struggling not to laugh.
"Faith, that is a phoenix not a chicken," Giles managed to get out. He chortled a bit only to get the glare from Severus, which really didn’t help his control, any. He looked down at the table as he tried to get a hold of himself. He knew if he looked at the others who had lost all control, he would as well. "He is going to bond with it as his familiar. It is more a partnership or friendship, not a bond in a sexual manner."
"Oh. Well how was I supposed to know? You guys are talking about soul-mates and bonds and then he mentions bonding with the bird. I thought it was the same thing," Faith said with a shrug. She crossed her arms over her chest as she waited for the others to stop laughing.
"Only you Faith," Xander said still grinning. He turned to Wesley knowing he couldn't look at Severus or he'd start laughing again. "So Wesley how long until we can find out who our soul mates are?" he asked.
"Not too long. I have to make up a potion that you have to add a bit of your blood to," Wesley explained. "It takes about an hour to brew. Afterwards, of course, you have to say the spell once the blood is added. I have all the ingredients here so I can get started on it right away."
"You did not mention it was blood magic," Severus stated. Many considered blood magic to be dark although he knew that most of them were not. In fact, very few blood magic spells were dark in nature even if the Ministry did not see it that way and had outlawed the use of almost all of them.
"Didn't I? Well it is and no it is not on the forbidden list of the Ministry's," Wesley stated before anyone could ask. It was actually such an obscure spell that he doubted the Ministry even knew of it. He had found it in an old book in the Pryce library. He'd searched for the book elsewhere to no avail so he was relatively sure he had the only copy of it, except perhaps in some other family's private library. "I shall get started on it," he added as he stood up. "I shall be in the kitchen if you should need me."
Angel nodded to Wesley as he left and then turned to look at Severus. "What will I need in order to do this ritual to become head of the Order?" he asked. He had known since he'd staked Darla he was the head of the order even though he had never bothered with it. He had not sought the power of being the head of the order, had not wanted it; now he would accept it if only because of the soul aspect. He had no idea what would happen to the others in the line when they received their souls. Would it be as hard on them as it had been on him? Darla had shared a soul with Connor when she'd been pregnant and it had not caused her to sink to the levels he had. It hadn't even stopped her from killing. Then there was Spike, who he had been told even without a soul had let himself be tortured in order to save Dawn. Of course, when Spike had first been turned he had not been viscous or even blood thirty. Angelus had forced William to become that in order for the fledgling to survive. If he hadn't he knew William would have been staked within six months. Angel had to wonder did having a soul really matter all that much or did it come down to the person itself? He could only hope that it did for some.
"You will need a pentacle on the floor large enough for you to stand in. That is it. You have to wait until midnight, when you are at full strength. I will write out the full wording for you," Severus explained. "The rest is just you asking magic to accept you as head of the order and so on. If you are not the one to be the head of the order magic will punish you for trying to usurp your position, otherwise you will become the head with all the authority that comes with it."
Angel knew what that meant. He knew how magic and the gods could be. He knew he did not have to worry about that situation happening. "I'll be ready. Thank you," he stated.
"In the mean time we should probably see about freeing Xander's magic and getting him a wand," Spike stated. "With the sewer system in this town we should be able to get over to the wizarding section without a problem and get a couple of wands for us."
"Will I need a wand though? I mean according to you guys I won't right?" Xander asked looking at the others.
"Until you find your soul mate you will," Severus explained. "Of course even after you might want one, unless you want to advertise just what you are. Pretending to use a wand will make it so others have no idea just how powerful you are. It will give you an advantage since most will have no clue to even suspect you could be a thaumaturge." Seeing Xander nod his understanding, he continued. "I can free your magic however I will need to rest afterwards."
"I picked out some rooms you can use while you are here," Angel told them. "They haven't been used in some time so they are a bit dusty." He didn't state that some of the other rooms in the building were uninhabitable due to the hotel having sat empty of years.
"We should be able to take care of the right Draco?" Harry said to him as he held up his wand.
"What am I a bloody house elf?" Draco grumbled only to then groan as he saw Harry's sad puppy dog look. "Oh all right. I suppose we can take care of that, just do not plan on making it a habit of me doing housekeeping spells."
"I am just amazed that you know any housekeeping spells," Severus said with a partial grin as he looked at his godson.
"Yes, well, father said that even though we should never use them we should know the spells that even a Weasley knew," Draco stated as he stood up.
"I see the feud is still ongoing between the Malfoys and the Weasleys. Are they the same as they were back then?" Spike asked. He remembered well his father's family and their treatment of him. Until he went to Hogwarts, they had wanted nothing to do with him and once at school they had made his life miserable. He had retreated into his studies becoming one of the few Slytherins to ever best out a Ravenclaw in OWLs and NEWTs.
"If you mean are they still prats, than the answer is some of them are," Draco said honestly. "The twins and their father are decent blokes. The rest work with Dumbledore and are just as greedy as their ancestors were. Willing to do anything and use anyone they have to in order to get ahead."
"Figures," Spike muttered with a shake of his head. "Well we'll see what they think of me then won't we?" he said with a bit of a chuckle. It might be fun to pay his respects to the family. Since technically he was the oldest living male, he might be able to cause some havoc there if he chose. He couldn't do that with the Malfoys since he was from the female line of the family where the Weasleys he was from the male, which could make all the difference in the wizarding world, which was still very old fashioned. He would have to check the wills and the family tree. He might just be able to upset the whole Weasley line he thought with a grin.
"Uh oh," Xander said as he saw the grin on Spike's face. "I don't think I like the look of that. Do I even want to know what you are thinking?"
"Don't worry about it mate," Spike told him, "at least for now. I'll let you know when and if I have it more thought out. Until then it's just a mere happy thought."
"Usually that means trouble for someone," Angel stated knowing the way Spike thought all too well. He also knew that Spike wouldn't tell them anymore at this point either. "Well let me show you the rooms and you can go from there," he added. He turned to lead the way out of the conference room and then up the stairs. He indicated a set of rooms. "These six you can use. Spike the curtains are thick enough not to let the light in so you don't have to worry."
"Be nice not to have to stay in the basement for a change," Spike said opening the door to the one room. He looked in and stepped back out again. "You weren't kidding when you said it was a dusty. When were these last used? The fifties? If you wouldn't mind boys, however I would suggest holding your breath until it is clean."
"Fine," Draco said with a roll of his eyes. He stepped into the room, gave his wand a wave and muttered the cleaning spell. There was a whoosh of magic to leave the room sparkling clean.
"Why Draco, you did that even better than Mrs. Weasley," Harry told him. "I wonder what people at Hogwarts would say to that; especially the Slytherins."
Draco spun around to look at Harry. "You would not dare tell anyone! Besides, who would believe you? There isn't any proof," he said calling his bluff.
"Draco did you forget the prank you pulled a few weeks ago, where my robes changed color in the sun?" Severus asked in a very serious voice. "I have yet to retaliate for that. I think if I backed Harry's story the students would believe us."
"Two against one, I see how it is," Draco said indignantly only to have both of them start laughing. "Ha, ha very funny," he told them.
"Oh don't worry Draco. We won't mention it to them. Let's get the other rooms done so that Severus can free Xander's magic," Harry said as he moved to the next room to do the spell. "Will it be as exhausting for him as it was for me?" he asked Severus.
"You were recovering from other injuries," Severus pointed out. "So no it will not. It will be painful, but not exhausting at least not for him. I shall need to rest afterwards, however I see no reason why you should not be able to procure his wand while I rest so long as you are careful while you are out."
"Don't worry I'll be with them and I'll make sure they'll stay out of trouble," Spike stated as he watched them clean the rooms out.
"Right, and who's going to make sure you stay out of trouble Spike?" Angel asked. He knew his grandchilde all too well and knew trouble followed him wherever he went. When they had traveled together, they had been run out of too many towns in the past because of Spike's actions and need for attention.
Spike glared at Angel for his comment. "Don't you have a ritual to prepare for?"
"Not for several hours yet; so I'll just go with you to make sure you stay out of trouble and don't get lost," Angel told him.
"That won't be necessary Captain Hair Gel," Spike snapped at him. "We don't need a babysitter.
Severus could see that the two vampires were about to start an argument and he really did not want to deal with it. "Xander, I would suggest laying down while I free your magic," he told the young man. He reached into his robe taking out a bag only to then enlarge it. He handed Draco the bag. "Draco, will you take out several pain potions?"
Xander nodded and went into the one room to lie down on the bed. His stomach was now in knots as he worried about the pain that both Harry and Severus had mentioned. He hoped having the magic free would be worth the pain they had said he would have to go through. He watched as Severus came in followed by Draco, Harry and Spike. "Ok, well I guess I'm as ready as I'm going to be. Just let me know when.." he didn't get to finish his sentence as Severus cast the spell to break the spell holding his magic. His body felt like it was being pierced with a spear and that it was being twisted. He screamed in agony as it was pulled and pushed in and out of him.
Spike took a step forward wanting to stop the screams; wanting to stop the pain that Xander was in. He didn't like seeing his friend writhing on the bed that way. It tore at him and made him want to take the pain in his place. He'd seen people in less pain with the Cruciatus curse. "Stop it, you’re going to kill him at this rate," he yelled as he took a step towards Severus only to have Draco and Harry block his way. He was just about to throw them out of his way when Xander's screams stopped and Severus slumped into a chair. He pushed between the two boys and over to Xander. "Xander, you all right?" he asked him once he got to his side.
"Ugh, did you get the name of the truck that hit me?" Xander asked as he opened his eyes to look at Spike. Every muscle in his body was throbbing and screaming at him. At the same time, though he felt this surge of energy running through him that he couldn't put a name to. It was an incredible feeling. If it wasn't for the pain, he might have felt as if he was soaring with the pleasure he felt from it.
Spike noticed Draco handing him a potion bottle and recognized it as a pain-relieving potion. "Here drink this it'll help," he told him. He helped Xander sit up enough in order to drink it and he couldn't help smiling slightly as he saw the look of disgust that came on his friend's face as he did so.
"Oh man that is just nasty," Xander said as his stomach rolled from the taste of it. He had to admit that whatever it was it was taking the pain away. He didn't even object as Spike gave him another vial and he drank it down. He shuddered at the taste though. He sighed and nodded. "Thanks, that worked whatever it was," he said now that the pain was gone.
"Standard pain relieving potion," Draco stated. He was beside Severus now checking on him. He was grateful to note that he was exhausted but otherwise seemed to be fine. He knew that the breaking of the block had taken a great deal of power especially since the block had been on for so long. "Harry, help me get Severus to a bed. He needs to rest," he said.
"I've got him," Faith said. She moved to the chair and bent to pick the man up with ease only to carry him bridal style. She walked out of the room followed by the two young men. She went into the room next door and laid Severus down on the bed. She looked over her shoulder at Draco and Harry. "I'll take care of him. You guys go get your wands taken care of or whatever it was you needed to do," she said with a smirk as they both blushed. She waited until they left before she took off Severus shoes and outer robes.
Fawkes came into the room even as Faith was covering Severus with a blanket. He sang several notes and gave Faith a reproachful look. Faith put both hands on her hips and glared back at the bird. "Don't look at me that way. It's not my fault he's this exhausted. He did it to himself. Trust me, if it was my fault I'd be laying beside him," she stated and then rolled her eyes. "I don't believe this. I'm defending myself to a stupid bird." Of course, Fawkes let out a few more squawks at that comment. Faith glared at him as she grabbed a chair and settled down in it. "Oh shut up," she muttered.

"I still can't believe you've never had pizza," Xander said as they entered the hotel. They had gone down to the wizarding area of town, which Xander had found incredible. Unlike in England, it wasn't sequestered, although they did have notice-me-not charms up to keep muggles from paying too much attention to it. They had found the wand shop easily enough even if finding the wands had not been. After trying numerous wands out the wand maker looked at both Spike and Xander for sever minutes with a piercing gaze that seemed to look down into their souls. He then stated that he would craft them both special wands right then and there. Xander's was made of California redwood with the core being of his hair soaked in Spike's blood. Spike's was made of English oak with the core being of his hair soaked in Xander's blood. The wand maker had insisted that these cores would be best for them and would not let them argue about it. Xander had thought it a bit strange until he had held the wand in his hand. It had been an incredible feeling as magic flowed through him and the wand glowed. He could tell the man had been right; this wand was the perfect wand for him. On the way back to the hotel they had decided to pick up a late dinner for everyone and that was when they had discovered that Draco had never had pizza, 9Buffalo wings or mozzarella sticks.
"Draco comes from a pure-blood family Xander. You would be amazed at what he's never had because they would consider it too beneath them to do so," Spike explained. "Pure-bloods can be very bigoted about some things especially anything muggle or muggle like."
Draco glared at Spike for calling him bigoted. "Harry have you ever had pizza?" he asked. He figured if Harry hadn't of had pizza either then he wasn't being bigoted and could throw that back at Spike.
"No, but then my family didn't let me go out to eat with them remember?" Harry reminded him. "The few times they had take away they didn't let me have any, however, I don't remember them having pizza."
Draco could have kicked himself for reminding Harry of his family. He couldn't believe he had been that stupid. He put his hand on Harry’s shoulder and gave it a light squeeze. "I am sorry Harry," he told him. "I should learn to think before I speak. I still think they should be kissed for all they did to you."
"It's okay Draco. I'm not going to break or anything. You don't have to watch what you say," Harry told him with a slight shrug. He decided to get them back onto the topic of the pizza and to leave his so-called family out of it. "Besides, I'm looking forward to trying this pizza. It smells great. If it tastes as good maybe we can get the house-elves to make it," he suggested. They were all loaded down with boxes of pizzas and appetizers along with bottles of drinks. They carried them in and set them down on what would have been the check-in desk for the hotel.
Wesley came out from the kitchen with a cup of tea in his hands. "I was wondering when you would be getting back. The potion has been ready for some time," he told them.
"Sorry Wes, we had some trouble with getting fitted for wands. The wand maker decided we had to have some specialty ones made," Xander explained. "Draco, Harry and Spike were showing me some spells on the way back and we stopped to get everyone some food."
"Understandable then," Wesley said with a nod. "Everyone is in the conference room. Severus was helping Angel with the ritual while Giles was looking through his book." One could hear the envy in Wesley's voice about the book even if it was mild. Oh, he knew Giles would let him look at it eventually, however it was the fact that the other man had found a copy and owned it. The book was quite rare and to own it was just amazing. "If you want to take the food in there I shall get some plates."
Faith looked at the group as they came in and gave them a big grin when she smelled the food they had brought. "Xan you are a life saver. That smells great," she told him even as she got up to help with the boxes. She opened the one box and saw it was her favorite of pepperoni, mushrooms and black olives. "Thanks man."
"Oi, what about me?" Spike said as he set down his armload. "Don't I get any credit?" he asked. He pouted slightly as he sat down in the one chair.
"Awe poor Spike," Xander stated. He sat down to then put an arm about Spike's shoulders. "So unloved and unappreciated. Well don't worry Spike. I appreciate you."
"Love me too?" Spike asked as he looked at Xander.
"I'll think about it," Xander teased him and then laughed as Spike pouted.
It was right then that Giles looked up from his book. "Oh, you are back," he said not having realized before that point, which of course caused everyone to chuckle. He watched as Wesley came in with paper plates, but also two vials of potion. "Before you do the spell that reveals your soul-mates there are a couple of things to discuss. Fawkes there informed Severus that Dumbledore had found two prophecies in the Merlin's Codex that referred to Harry or possibly you Xander so I have been looking through the Codex. I believe I have found them. The first one I do believe pertains to you Xander and your soul-mate."
"Ok," Xander said. "What is it?" he asked. The others were passing out the food but suddenly he wasn't so hungry, which for him was saying a lot. It took a lot to effect his appetite
Giles flipped the book to the one page and then recited:
"The last Black child," Severus stated. "Sunnydale, and Death Eaters have a symbol of a snake a skull," he explained. "Yes, I would say that is indicative of you Xander," he stated. He had a sneaky suspicion as to who the pale one was although, he could not be sure so did not comment on that part.
"You seem very sure about their symbol," Angel stated as he looked at Severus. He continued to look at the man and saw him get a bit uncomfortable as he did so.
"I was once foolish enough to follow the Dark Lord, I now spy against him," Severus explained before rolling up his sleeve to show them the dark mark. "This is the symbol that all Death Eaters have and how he contacts them. Unfortunately there is no way to remove it."
"Yes, Uncle Sev made a mistake, however I think we are getting off topic here," Draco said to them. "We were discussing the prophecies. You said you found the other one?"
"I believe I did, although it is not as clear. Fawkes relayed that Dumbledore had indicated the prophecy stated Harry and Xander would bond with dragons and that he wasn't worried since he knew of none with dragon in their blood line," Giles explained. He flipped to the new page and read them the new prophecy.
"The only founders I have ever heard of were the Hogwarts founders," Wesley stated. "It's rumored one of them was a thaumaturge. It would explain a bonding however not with the all four. Although the first prophecy seems fairly straight forward this one isn't very clear at this point."
Severus was thinking about the day before and something he'd heard after the will reading. Names were coming into focus and he had a good idea who Harry and Xander's soul-mates were now. Before he suspected now he was almost certain. "Wesley, if they are in proximity of their soul-mates what can they expect?" he asked.
"Since Harry has not reached his majority he might feel some affection or at least a willingness to get close to them, but nothing really overt until he was seventeen. He can still bond with them at this time and free his magic of course and once bonded it would be the same as if he bonded at any age. Now if he met them after seventeen there would be an instant attraction. They would smell better than anyone else, feelings of protectiveness, love, the need to bond with them would grow the more time they spent together."
"Uncle Sev, do you know something?" Draco asked having the feeling he missed something in this conversation.
"Possibly," Severus stated. "I think Harry and Xander should do the spell to reveal their soul-mates if they have finished eating."
Xander looked down at his food. He'd had one slice of pizza, which for him wasn't much. "Yeah, I'm done," he said finding he couldn't take another bite even if he wanted to. His stomach was in knots. Between the prophecies and curiosity about his soul-mate he was a bundle of nerves.
Harry had liked the food, however now it suddenly turned to saw dust in his mouth. He looked at the potion vials noticing how the potion was swirling blue, purple and red within it. It was beautiful to look at, yet scary to know it held is future within. He pushed his plate away and nodded. "So what do we have to do?"
Wesley uncorked the bottles setting one in front of each of them. He then handed each of them a pin. "You need to add three drops of blood to the potion then tap the bottle with your wand and state ostendo sum meus animus materia," he told them.
"Say what?" Xander said looking at him as if he was from mars.
Wesley chuckled and handed each of them a piece of paper. "I wrote it down for you both," he said. "Try repeating it a few times before attempting the spell." He listened to them and when they got it correct, he nodded. "Good, now you should be able to. After you say it the image of your soul-mate will rise out along with their name."
"I guess I'll go first," Harry said. He pricked his finger with the pin and squeezed out three drops of blood. He watched as the potion swirled with more red. He tapped it with his wand and repeated the spell. Smoke came out of the bottle and began to form a face. He stared at it as he recognized the face as his friend sitting beside him. Once the face was finished, the name that appeared below it was "Draco Hephaestus Malfoy."
Draco sat there stunned. He'd been attracted to Harry for some time now yet he'd never thought he would ever have the chance. He had thought himself lucky to be a friend at this point. When he'd found out Harry had a soul-mate he had assumed he would be a friend and that was it. Now things had changed. He was that soul-mate. He looked over at Harry, but couldn't tell what he was thinking or feeling.
"Why don't you go ahead Xander," Wesley said noticing that both boys seemed a bit stunned at this point.
Xander nodded understanding how they might need a minute to digest that information. He followed Wesley directions of pricking his finger, adding the blood, tapping the bottle and reciting the words. Now he watched as the smoke came up. His mouth fell open as he saw the face that appeared. "What?" he gasped as he saw the smirking face of Spike staring at him and the name of "William Draconis Malfoy" appear below it. He looked over at Spike half pointing at him. "What the hell?"
"Thanks a lot Xander," Spike said getting up and storming out of the room. Nice to know what Xander thought of having him as his soul-mate he thought.
"No," Xander said but of course, Spike was already gone. He turned towards Wesley, "Didn't you say I would be feeling and smelling things if I was near my soul-mate?" he asked now totally confused.
Wesley had to admit for a moment he was stumped; then it hit him. "Yes you would, if Spike had a soul," he reminded him. "I am sure after the ritual tonight you will feel all that."
"Oh," Xander said slumping back in the chair for a moment. Spike was his soul-mate. His soul-mate was a man. Well it wasn't as if he hadn't been attracted to men before, he'd just never really admitted to it. He liked Spike and he had been attracted to him a few times as well. He looked at the door. "Oh shit," he muttered before running out to find the man. He knew he had better fix this and quick.
Harry hadn't said anything since the name had been revealed. Truth was he was still a bit stunned. He had never thought that his soul-mate would be a male. He had just assumed it would be female. It wasn't that he was opposed to it being male it just wasn't something he'd thought about.
"Harry," Draco said and put his hand on Harry's arm. When the other boy looked at him, he gave him a reassuring smile. "How about we go talk about this privately?" he suggested. He saw him nod and he got up with him. He put an arm about his shoulders to walk with him up to their rooms.
"Well now we know where the dragon part comes from," Severus stated. "It was their names, Draco and Draconis, and not the blood line. Dumbledore did not think of that." He checked the time and looked at Angel. "It is getting near midnight. Are you ready to perform the ritual?"
"I believe so. I have to admit I did not expect Xander and Spike to be soul-mates," Angel told them as he gathered up the paper in which Severus had written out the ritual on. It seemed simple enough still, he knew if the gods or magic deemed him unsuitable he would pay the ultimate price. "You do realize with those two together and going to England with you, well I almost pity you," he added with a chuckle.
"Oh I'm sure Sevvy here can handle it," Faith said as she finished off her pizza and moved to walk with them. "Besides he looks like he could use some humor in his life."
"Sevvy?" Severus said as he lifted his eyebrow and gave her a glare. He did not exactly like this name for himself. She had some nerve in calling him such a name and he was about to tell her so when she gave him a heated look that sent desire coursing through him and made it difficult to speak.
"No? Well I'll think of something to call you," Faith said in a sultry voice. Her tongue darted out to lick over her lips lightly as she looked him up and down. She then shrugged and moved past him making sure to have a wiggle to her hips. She could feel him watching so couldn't help but grin.
"Faith you are incorrigible," Angel whispered to her once she got near him.
"I know, but far too tempting," Faith said unrepentantly. "So anything I can help with this ritual?
"No it's all on me," Angel said as he took off his shoes and socks as Severus had told he had to do. He moved to stand in the pentacle. He checked the time and as soon as it struck midnight, he began. "I humbly beseech magic and the great Lilitu to recognize me Angel also known as Liam as the new head of the Order of Aurelius. The old master sired Darla who then sired me; both are no longer of this world. He had made Darla his heir and she made me hers, so I claim the right to be the new leader and I seek to have my and all others of the line's souls restored to do with as we will. I await your answer," he said and then knelt. Although it was only a second it felt like an eternity before he felt the magic hit him. He rose off the floor as magic washed over and through him. He felt his body pulse with power. The demon within grew quiet as it merged with his soul becoming one. He was gently laid back down onto the floor. He could feel the difference from before. Always before he'd felt like there had been two parts within him, now he felt complete. He was one being with his soul in total control. "It's done," he said with a smile that beamed with all the happiness that he felt within.
