Standing in the kitchen with Remus, Professor Snape and Padfoot, Harry was chuckling softly. They were getting ready to go to his appointment with his solicitor, which meant that Professor Snape was changing Padfoot's fur slightly. On the table was a harness that Muggles used to designate a dog as a service animal of some kind. Because Padfoot was along, they couldn't Apparate, which meant they were going to be taking the Underground to the appointment so they needed something to ensure that nothing was 'off' without using magic.
Standing there, holding his wand, looking at the bear-like dog whose teeth were bared at him, Snape was amused. He wasn't going to go with anything fancy when it came to this, but as uptight as Harry was over the whole thing, he hoped to give the young man a couple moments of levity before they left, thus relaxing him slightly. It was working as the young man did seem amused by what was going on.“I agree, Severus. An overly large French poodle might be perfect. Though he would be big, they aren't at all intimidating. We can even do a nice nail varnish and bows. That will just add to the effect,” Remus said, trying not to laugh at that thought or react to the deep growl that was now directed his way from his friend.Snickering, Harry said, “I think a French poodle that big would stand out and people would remember it.”“Very true,” Severus nodded with a smirk. “There would then probably be a bunch of foolish Muggles clamoring for one and the hunt would be on to find him. No, we won't go with that.” Seeing Black glower at him, fangs bared once more, he snorted softly then said, “I say we go with a standard German shepherd look. It'll be bigger and shaggier than normal, but I doubt people will question it. Plus, they tend to be wary of such breeds so they would stay away.”“That would be wise, I think,” Remus nodded.Looking down at Padfoot, who was glaring at both the other men, Harry chuckled, “That works for me.” Rubbing Padfoot's head, he waited for Snape to do the job so they could get the harness on him then leave. They were going a little early because one never knew what to expect with the Underground.“Black and tan it is,” Severus said, readying his wand.
Looking down at the floor, leg bouncing as he leaned against the disguised Sirius, Harry was uptight as he waited to be called into Carthwaight's office. He didn't want to deal with this, that’s all there was to it, let alone talk to the man about whatever he saw in the memories he was given. Feeling Padfoot nuzzle his hand and give him a reassuring lick, he let his fingers entwine in the fur and leaned more heavily against him, eyes shut. He was startled just moments later by Carthwaight calling his name. Standing, not sure what to do, he decided without thinking and tugged Sirius to come with. Honestly? He didn't think he could face this alone so, despite what might be said, he wanted Sirius along for support, even if was just to touch and lean on.
Smiling at his young, obviously uptight and probably very upset client, Amos said, softly, “Can the two you are with join us too, please, Mr. Potter?”Though not liking that at all and wondering what it was about, he nodded then waited for the Professor and Remus to join him before allowing himself to be ushered into the office.Taking a seat in a chair in front of the desk with Padfoot sitting on the floor in front of him, leaning against his legs, Harry reached down and petted his head, waiting.Once everyone had taken a seat, Amos sat down behind the desk and produced his wand. Looking at the two gentlemen with his client, he asked, “Do both of you agree to be bound by the standard solicitor/client privilege and the spell to guarantee that?” As that was standard, he expected no issue there. Once he heard the affirmation from both men, he tapped the small paperweight on his desk, ensuring that the spell slid into place. Leaning back, crossing his legs, he looked at his client. “I've asked them to come in because there are some questions I have of them about certain aspects of this case. They won't be called into court, but they do have some information I need.” Seeing an apprehensive nod from his client, he told the young man, voice meant to be reassuring, “You trust them, Mr. Potter. They aren't going to reveal anything or get upset with you. Just remember that. Besides, I can probably guarantee that Professor Snape, in his tenure as head of Slytherin, has had to deal with this issue more than once. Sadly, it's far too common.”“I have,” Severus said with a nod and sigh, reaching out to put a hand on Harry's shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze.“I thought as much,” Amos said with a sigh and shake of his head. “All of us here are wise enough to know that what happened is not your fault in any way and no blame will be placed on you. There is a reason such crimes in our world usually result in a long stay in Azkaban before the person that did it is Kissed.” Seeing Harry nod, he settled back in his chair then said, “As you've given your permission for Lucius to help in this case by contacting me with information, the first thing I want to say is that tomorrow, when we go into court, he's going to be in the courtroom. He has a way of doing this. What's going to happen is Fudge is going to allow it, I'm going to object then he's going to overrule me. Unlike most times, I won't fight with him over it. If you get too upset or are distressed, just look at him. That’s all you have to do. He's going to sit by Fudge, so it's going to appear you're glaring at Fudge or something that wouldn't be taken out of context, but you can look at him for reassurance. He'll come up with something to help. From what he said, there is very little he can do to help you beyond what he already has in this matter. What he's going to do is for moral support. We both thought it was a good idea. Any objection to that?”Thinking about it, Harry shook his head, saying nothing. He actually liked the idea. At least he knew one person in there was there for only him.“Good. I'll contact him tonight and tell him it's set up.” Looking at the two other men, he asked, “I'm assuming that Albus Dumbledore is planning on showing up because he feels he can do my job better than I can and will be more effective?”“That's what we've been told,” Severus sneered, shaking his head.A grim smile on his face, Amos nodded. “Good. I'll let him dance whatever dance he has chosen before I step in. Do either of you know if he's bringing any witnesses with him?”“He said Arabella Figg will be with him as she witnessed the incident,” Remus told him softly.“That's the squib that was sent there to live so she could keep an eye on Mr. Potter since he was dropped on the doorstep?” He asked, looking at Remus. When he saw the nod and heard the affirmation, his smile was almost feral, then he nodded himself. “Oh, this is good. Someone I'm most interested in questioning about many things involved in this mess. Yes, this will work out well! Who is bringing Mr. Potter to the hearing, do you know?” He asked, looking around.“Arthur Weasley is. He's going to take Harry to work with him then bring him to Madam Bones' office when it's time for the hearing. At least that's the plan,” Severus explained.“Well, Albus apparently isn't as smart as he thinks he is. I've already been notified it's a full hearing first thing in the morning in a court room. Unlike what they do with the old man, they have to notify me of changes as I'm the solicitor of record. That's fine, it's no issue. Just make sure Mr. Weasley knows to get him there quickly and go straight to the courtroom first thing,” Amos told them with a dismissive wave. Seeing a nod at that, he focused on Harry then softened his voice, “You are still in agreement with using Veritaserum?”Sighing and rubbing his eyes, looking unhappy, Harry nodded, “I will. I don't like it, but I will.”“This can work for us very well, Mr. Potter. Better than you ever imagined.” Amos told him firmly. “I can not only get into the topic we are there for, but all this other junk as well. Just let me guide you and we'll have it all handled by the time we are done tomorrow. Or, at the very least, the start of it. It can also give those sitting here the foot in the door they will need for leverage to push for you to not only be away from the Dursleys, but out of Hogwarts as well. If they can't manage, I can guarantee you I can. We'll start that part before you leave today.”“How much personal stuff do I have to give up?” Harry asked, petting Padfoot for reassurance when he felt the animagus lean more heavily against him to help with his uptight state.“A great deal,” Amos told him honestly. “Including information on the sexual assaults by your uncle.” Seeing the young man start to protest, he held up his hand, “Let me explain. In doing that, I'm going to slap everyone in the courtroom upside the head, hard. From Albus all the way to Fudge. All of them. I will also tell you that you will have to pull a couple memories of the sexual assaults and, probably, the one of you telling Albus about them. The court will view those. However, I will ensure you don't see or hear them. There is a spell on the chair you'll be sitting in that can be activated while those are viewed. I will ensure that is done so you don't have to deal with it. While it shows, look at Lucius. That's why he'll be there; to help you. You've done nothing wrong and all will see that.”“Oh, Merlin,” Harry muttered, slouching forward, rubbing his eyes under his glasses. The thought of that made him feel sick to his stomach.“It's the best thing we can do, Mr. Potter. It'll show them just what you mean when you talk about some things and will give not only those trying to get you away, but me, some serious legal wands to work with. I'm also going to ask you about things like Dumbledore and why you hate him, who you trust, why you don't trust most people, among other things. These answers are going to give all of us things we can use to help you. It's going to be uncomfortable, no doubt there, and you'll be embarrassed to say them, but it will be more than worth it in the end. It's going to get you out of a situation you don't need to be in and put you somewhere you want. Plus, I do believe that we can help you prove your godfather is innocent and have people starting to look into the charges.”Head coming up, Harry looked at him then asked, “How?”“You've had encounters with Peter Pettigrew, have you not?” Stopping, he looked around then said, “All three of you sitting here have, if what I was told was right.” Seeing them nod, he pressed on, “From what I was informed of, we can't use the memory of what happened at Hogwarts as it'll get many people in trouble, but do you have a memory of an encounter with him since then?”“Yeah, I do. Last year in the graveyard,” Harry told him with a nod. “Well, the first part of it anyway. It was Wormtail that helped give him back his body. If we can stop it when he gets his body back, it can be used. Later in the memory, there is someone that we need to protect.”Taking that hint and guessing who his young client was talking about, Amos nodded. “Understood. I can get that in. You just need to allow me to work with this my way, Mr. Potter. Nothing more. I'm not going to say this will be comfortable for you, but it can get us what we want. Just trust me to do the job you pay me for. In the end, you'll like what comes of it. That I promise you. Because if what those looking out for you are trying to do fails, I have weapons they don't to ensure that we get you away from the Dursleys and out of Hogwarts. You just need to let me handle this the way I need to.”Thinking that over, looking at the floor, feeling Padfoot nuzzle him in a reassuring way, Harry sighed then gave a bare nod. “Alright, do what you need to. Just—I don't want to deal with those memories.”“You won't have to,” Amos told him firmly with a shake of his head. “I know what I'm doing, just trust me with that. It's what you pay me for.” Seeing Harry, though looking not at all happy, nod once more, Amos pressed on. “Now, it's my understanding that everyone wants you to be homeschooled.” Seeing nods and hearing the confirmation, he said, “With what I saw, that's a very good idea, not to mention something doable. We can work with this here. I'm going to let you gentlemen use the plan you have in place to try, but give you the ammo you need to do it. If you can't, I'll step in. To that end, I need to cover something with you.”Seeing more nods, he said, “Talking with Lucius, he told me that you, Professor Snape and Mr. Lupin, are people Harry trusts. With what's going to be revealed in court, I can try for full emancipation. However, when you invoke part of this, like He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, we're going to have issues. So, what I've done is come up with something odd, but not unheard of; supervised emancipation. Harry would be on his own, but have, in this case, two people who would monitor him. I don't believe anyone would argue that he has a safe place to stay and we don't have to bring up where it is. Let the court assume what they want with that as it could be anywhere in the estates he owns from his parents. Lucius suggested, and I agree with him, that both of you here would be suitable to supervise him. All that means is a couple hours a day checking on him. As your condition warrants suspicion, Mr. Lupin, what we can do is have Professor Snape show up the nights before, of and after the full moon. Nothing more. The rest you can work out a schedule on your own for, just so you check on him a couple hours a day. If what I was told was correct and you are basically living in the house Harry is residing in, Mr. Lupin, there won't be an issue. I would ask Professor Snape show up for a couple hours at least twice a week. This is something easy, I would think, especially with the way Albus Dumbledore is acting about my client. If I can get this through, Albus would have to give you the time off to honor your commitment, Professor Snape. He cannot disregard a court order, not if he knows what's good for him.”Stopping, he looked at Snape and said, “Lucius and I discussed this briefly and he said to tell you to get with him, that he has a way to work with the situation to protect you with something you do. I do understand that is a delicate dance there, but he told me it can work and be beneficial to everyone this way. On my end, I can see where it may work with Albus as he would think there is a chance to repair things, though it's doubtful it would happen from my client's end.” Stopping, he looked around and waited to see what was said.Thinking it over, Harry gave a slow nod. “If they're willing, I'm good with it.”Without thinking about it, Remus told the man, “If you can get it through, I'll do it without a problem.”Though having to ponder it because of his role as a spy, Severus nodded after several moments then said, “I will as well.” He was just going to have to get with Lucius to figure out what the man had in mind when it came to dealing with the Dark Lord over this. Albus would love it, no doubt there.Pleased with that, Amos nodded and produced the forms for everyone to sign. Sending them to be filed, he said, “I have more here I need you to look over and sign, Mr. Potter. Mr. Lupin and Professor Snape can easily witness them and their names will be obscured so no one will be any the wiser as to who did it.” Pulling the first out of the stack, he said, “This is a variance for you to do magic outside of school. I can easily push it though, as tomorrow it's going to be readily apparent with the Dementor attack and your uncle that you need to protect yourself.”Liking that, Harry grinned and signed it without another thought.Once the other two had witnessed it, Amos filed it as well. Producing the next in the stack, he handed it to Harry then said, “This is for a full accounting of your vaults. I want to know who withdrew what so I know who to go after. The stipend to your so-called family should have been paid by the Ministry, not you. That means, once I get this, I'm going after who allowed it to happen and your family for reimbursement. You will get every penny back, Mr. Potter, I assure you. And, if I have my way in this matter, double the amount as I plan to go after both Albus Dumbledore for it and your family, making both pay you back, with interest.”Oh, Harry loved the sound of that and signed without a comment, chuckling softly.Once more, when it was witnessed, Amos filed it. Passing on the next form, he said, “This is for me to go after not only Poppy Pomfrey but Albus Dumbledore for failure to follow the law and push for prosecution of both. What they did is a crime with serious repercussions and should be treated as such. Though you'll sign it today, I won't do anything with it until tomorrow after the hearing. I also imagine that I'll get what I want here as Madam Bones won't like having me in her office screaming at her over the mess. There will, of course, be an investigation into it, but you won't have to be pulled in as the memories you give tomorrow and transcripts from court will be all that's needed.”Without a word, Harry signed it and passed it over, waiting, smirking slightly. That he liked.Passing the next one on, Amos explained, “This is to prosecute both your aunt and uncle for sexual assault. As with Albus and Poppy, there will be an investigation and the transcripts will suffice. However, if it comes to it, you will have to go to court. All that will need be done is for you to answer one or two questions to confirm the memories, nothing more. Plus, I think it would do you good to sit and hear them prosecuted. I won't file this until tomorrow either. Again, Madam Bones will give me what I want here as she won't like the tantrum I'll throw in her office over it.”Though signing the form, Harry asked, brow furrowed, “How can you prosecute Aunt Petunia for that? She didn't touch me.”“She, unlike a normal citizen, was tasked as your guardian. As such, she has a legal obligation to protect you, unlike someone you pass on the street. Because of her lack of actions, though she had knowledge of it, let it continue, she's now considered part and parcel to the sexual assault, thus just as culpable as your uncle.” Amos explained with a grim smile on his face. Not having known that, Harry nodded, liking it.Producing one more, he said, “This one is simple; it's an application to homeschool you. If they don't succeed in pushing Albus to go with the plan, I will. He won't win with me and knows that, not with the evidence I'll have after the hearing.” Leaning back, he said, “What I'm going to do is this—come tomorrow after the hearing, I'm going have Mr. Potter sign a release, if he's willing of course, to make copies of everything that was just done. I'll have him give it to one of you. When you start pushing, you can produce the copies and show them to Albus. That should be more than enough to get him motivated in the direction you want him to go. He knows me, very well. So, he knows I'm dead serious about this and will come at him with everything I have at my disposal. I can also assure you that I will do so, no matter what plan he tries to put in place to stave it off. He is not above the law and is about to find that out. That should give all of you what you need to do this. You can make up whatever story you want as to how you got your hands on them, but use it how you need to.”Liking that, Severus gave a firm nod, “We will. It will help a great deal.”“As I've already said, if it doesn't work and Albus refuses to budge, have Mr. Potter contact me via owl or send someone with a message, then I'll do it my way. Either way, he's not going back. I don't care.” Amos told them all firmly as he took the last parchment back.“We will,” Remus told him, nodding. Looking at Severus, who was glancing at him, he said, quietly, “Early this morning, Severus and I were talking about something and thought, maybe, it should be something you might want to look into on Harry's behalf.”Focusing on the man, Amos asked, “What's that?”“James and Lily's wills. I don't think any of us have seen them or know what's in them or even if they were properly enacted. We know that Sirius was made his godfather, but from talks with them, I know they had other plans in place if the worst happened with that. I mean, they knew what was going on and how much danger they were in. From what they said, they had others listed who were supposed to take Harry. I also know Lily never mentioned her sister as one of them.”“She was well aware what Petunia was like,” Severus sneered, folding his arms over his chest. “I can't see where she would have thought it was a good thing to stick her son with someone like that.”Looking around, Amos nodded slowly then turned to his client, “Have you ever seen your parents will or heard what it contained? Like from the goblins when you claimed your school vault?”“No, never,” Harry confirmed with a shake of his head. “I've only been to Gringotts a couple times and never alone. Nor have I talked to the goblins other than to request being taken to my vault. I assumed they didn't have a will and just naming Sirius as my godfather was all that was done.”“That is most odd,” Amos told him with a nod. Looking around, he said, “I'll start trying to get my hands on the wills to see what is there. If they haven't been unsealed or enacted, I'll do so. If they have, I'll make sure you get a copy, Mr. Potter. Let me see what I can find there. All I know is the accounting from the goblins as to assets, nothing more. It's a good question, one I'll look into.” Stopping, he looked at his client and smiled, “I think that's all we need here. Tomorrow isn't going to be easy, Mr. Potter. I'm not going to lie to you and tell you it is. Just keep in mind what we're going to get out of it while you're going through it and lay your faith in me. I'm only working for you, no one else here. I am also not following whatever harebrained scheme Albus Dumbledore has up that ridiculous sleeve of his. You are my only focus, nothing more.” Stopping, he looked at the Potions Master then asked, “If you would, Professor Snape, find a calming draught that won't be negated or counteracted by the Veritaserum. If you can get it to Lucius, he can pass it to me and Mr. Potter can take it before we start. That will make it easier on him.”“I can do that,” Severus told the man with a firm nod, reaching over and giving Harry's shoulder another reassuring squeeze.“I think that's all I need here,” Amos said with a smile. “Just show up promptly and we're going to turn many people's worlds upside down, Mr. Potter.”With a heavy sigh, Harry nodded, saying nothing.Standing, Amos shook everyone's hand then escorted them out, planning to get to work on the paperwork Mr. Potter had just finished signing. There was a lot to be completed before court in the morning.
