Chapter 14

Arriving a few hours later at the Manor, Nicole shivered at the memories the place invoked. Draco instinctively wrapped an arm around her, assuring her that she was safe. She wrapped her arms around herself to help quell the shivers that raced over her. This place reeked of evil. Draco hated that he had to bring her back here. He wished that his parents would have come to Severus’ house. It was a much more comfortable place for all of them.

Lucius and Narcissa were waiting in the drawing room when they arrived. They stood when the group entered the room. “Severus, good to see you again. Draco. Who are the guests you’ve brought?” Lucius spoke formally to them.

“This is my fiancée, Emily, and this is my daughter, Nicole. She also happens to be the woman your son is going to marry soon,” Severus spoke up and introduced them.

Lucius narrowed his eyes at his son, “A half-blood, son? Really, you couldn’t be satisfied with ruining us by not completing your tasks for the dark lord, you have to marry a half-blood and sully our family?”

Draco growled, “If anyone sullied the Malfoy name, it was you. Nicole is the woman that bastard captured and tortured, and then put a curse on her, hoping that she would die. Well, he didn’t know that I was the one who rescued her from this hell-hole. He didn’t know that I was the one who kept her alive all this time. If you can’t accept her into the family, then I guess I’m no longer a part of the family. Good day, father, mother, we won’t inflict our presence on you any longer,” he said and led Nicole to the floo. Turning around in the fireplace to face them he spoke again, “Oh, by the way, you’re going to be grandparents soon. Nicole’s pregnant with my twins.” With that said, he muttered something and they disappeared from the room, leaving 4 gaping adults behind them.

“She’s pregnant?” Narcissa whispered. “He got a girl pregnant before they married?”

Emily was the one to break the silence that followed. “Yes, he did. Although, you could probably put the blame of that evil bastard you served. The curse he placed on Nicole was one that would cause her to die if she didn’t have sex every day. Your son graciously volunteered to keep her alive by having sex with her. Any kind of contraception would have killed her. Your son is a better person than either of you. I’m sure you would have let her die, rather than sully yourself with a half-blood. Do you even realize that the man you served, worshipped, was a half-blood? Does that even make it through the superiority you feel? I suppose it’s a good thing you are on house arrest and can’t leave this place. You’ll be here alone for a long time. I’m sorry, Severus, I can’t stay in a place with so much evil, and be around people such as these who can’t even accept that their son is happy.”

Severus nodded, “I’ll be along shortly, love.” He watched her leave and after several moments turned to the two who had just drove away their son. Sighing, “You really have no idea what has happened in Draco’s life, do you? He never wanted to take the mark. He never wanted to serve. He only wanted to keep his family alive and happy. At the time, that was you. Now, he has Nicole and their children will be here in a few months. He has grown into a great man. He did something for Nicole that no one else could do. He kept her alive, yes, but he also showed her that she was worthy of being loved by someone. He showed her that she could love. Maybe one day you two will realize that you have people who love you. At this point, they probably hate you more, but they do love you and want you to be a part of their lives. Don’t let Draco’s children grow up not knowing you.” He turned and made his way to the floo. “If you ever get your heads out of the sand long enough to realize what you have lost today, you know where to find me.” With that, he disappeared into the green flames.

Arriving at his house, he found Emily waiting on the sofa. “I’m sorry that I subjected you to that. I never thought that they would be that way,” he said, making his way to her side.

“It’s alright, love. I’m fine, just worried about the kids. They haven’t been downstairs at all since I returned. I haven’t heard any sounds from up there either. I hope everything is okay with them. It’s got to be hard on the boy,” Emily said with another long glance upstairs. Severus sighed, causing her to look up at him. “You’re hurting, aren’t you?” she observed.

“Draco is the closest thing to a son I’ve ever had, and his parents are just turning their backs on him because of his choice in marriage. It’s ridiculous. He is their only child, their heir, how can they just shun him like that?” he told her.

“Just be here for him. He needs you right now. He’s hurting, I can tell, even if he doesn’t show it. Nicole will help him heal from this.” Emily said, taking his hand and leading him up the stairs to his bedroom. “Now, come, let me relax you.”

Draco and Nicole arrived back at the house and headed straight for her room. He was so angry at his parents. How could they treat Nicole like she was some dirt on their shoe? He loved her, could they not see that she made him happy? He paced the room while Nicole watched him with concern.

“Draco? They didn’t bother me with their words. The only thing that bothers me is how they treated you. I want you to be happy,” Nicole said, trying to calm him. He turned at her words, taking in her pained expression. Moving quickly, he kneeled in front of her, taking her hands in his.

Bending his head over her hands and placing a kiss on them, “I’m so sorry. I never would have taken you there if I had known what they would say. I knew that they wouldn’t like me taking you as a wife, but I never thought they would insult you like that, seeing that you make me the happiest person in the world. I had hoped when they saw us together that they would be okay with us. I wanted my parents to be a part of our lives, but I don’t want them to hurt you or our children,” he said. Tears dripped from his eyes onto her hands.

Nicole gently cupped his cheeks, forcing him to look at her, “I don’t care what your parents think of me. I only care what you think. I love you and our children more than anything. Nothing your parents will say about me matters. Don’t do this to yourself. They are your parents and you love them, even though you may hate them at this moment, you still love them. Don’t let them get to you. That’s what they want. They want you to doubt yourself and us. They want to put a wedge between us. Don’t let them.” She pulled him forward and placed her lips on his to show him how much she loved him. Draco rose up from his knees and laid her back on the bed, not breaking the contact of their lips. She slid up further in the bed, taking him with her. A silent spell sent their clothes to the floor. Draco slid his hands down her sides, causing goose bumps to pop up on her skin. She ran her hands over his back, racking her nails over his heated skin. Breaking away for breath, he kissed her cheek and moved down to her neck. Spreading her legs, she opened for him, wet and ready. He slowly entered her, taking his time. This wasn’t just sex, he wanted to make love to her slowly, show her how he felt. He pulled out to the tip of his cock and then slowly thrust back into her. Slowly, he pumped himself in and out of her, drawing out their pleasure, making it last longer than ever before. He heard his godfather and Emily make their way up the stairs and hoped that they wouldn’t enter the room. He wanted this to last forever. He sprinted down the corridor as if something was chasing him. Sweat running into his eyes, he was on a mission. He had to get there before it happened. He had to be there for it. Healers and nurses dodged out of his way as he barreled down the hallways of the hospital, looking for her, his wife, the woman he loved, the woman giving birth to his children right now at this very moment. He was out in the field when the head auror found him and gave him the frantic message from Emily. Nicole had gone into labor early. She couldn’t find Severus and couldn’t find him so she took Nicole to St. Mungos herself, not knowing what else to do.

Bursting through the door, creating a bang as it hit the wall, all eyes turned on him. His breathing ragged, he could barely talk, “I’m here,” he panted. Nicole was lying on the table, obviously in pain, clutching Emily’s hand like a lifeline.

“Finally,” Emily said and grimaced as Nicole squeezed her hand again. “Get over here, I’m not a midwife,” she hissed through her gritted teeth. Draco nodded and made his way to Nicole’s side to take over for Emily. Once his hand entered Nicole’s, she visible relaxed. Emily moved to the door to observe and stay out of the way.

“Nice to see you arrive, Draco,” Healer Davies said as he checked Nicole once more. “Now, Nicole, it’s time to push. I had wanted to try to stop this labor, but you are too far into it. So, I want you to push with all your might. When the next contraction hits, push, okay?”

Nicole nodded, “Okay,” she said, her voice a mere whisper as she tried to keep from screaming at the pain. Her body felt like it was being ripped in two. She felt the contraction begin and pushed hard, squeezing the life out of Draco’s hand.

“That’s good, now rest a moment and we will try again,” the healer said. Draco’s breathing had returned to normal and his hand had already gone numb in hers, but he wasn’t moving from her side until this was over.

After several hours of pushing, she still had not delivered one child. Draco was beginning to worry. “What’s wrong?” he asked.

“I’m not sure. Usually these things are over by now. Maybe her body is just not ready.” Davies answered.

Nicole shook her head, “No, it’s ready; I just need to be in a different position. This doesn’t feel right,” she said, panting through another contraction.

The healer shrugged his shoulders, “Okay, you tell me what will feel right.”

“Maybe if I was sitting up, rather than lying down,” she suggested. The healer nodded and Draco moved in behind her on the bed to help hold her up in a sitting position just as another contraction came on. She pushed again and the first baby made a tiny bit of progress, but not enough. “No, this doesn’t feel right either,” she said. Moving slowly, she turned in the bed to face Draco on her knees. Placing her hands on his shoulders, she shifted her knees further apart. “This feels right.” Another contraction hit her and she locked eyes with Draco as she pushed. She grunted as she felt the first head slip out of her. The healer was there to help aid the child out and with another push, the baby boy slid out into the healer waiting arms. Without pause, he passed the child to an assistant to clean and turned in time to see a foot slide out of her.

‘Damn,’ he thought, ‘breech.’ His medical mind racing to figure out how to handle this, most breech delivers were turned before they were allowed to arrive, but this one was here already. He decided to let Nicole do her thing and felt that she was right in what she was doing. He heard her grunt again and knew that she was pushing. Placing his hands under her, he held onto the baby’s leg and tried to help. Soon, another foot appeared and then the baby’s butt. Another push and the rest of the baby slid out of Nicole, a baby girl this time. Nicole laughed when she heard her babies crying for the first time. She never lost eye contact with Draco and he leaned forward to kiss her, grinning with happiness and pride. He was a daddy now. Nicole turned and sagged against him as she watched the assistant healers clean up her babies and wrap them up in blankets.

They placed both bundles in her arms and Draco wrapped his arms around her to help her cradle them as Severus entered the room. Emily stood by the door, tears in her eyes as she looked up at him when he entered. “It’s so beautiful. She knew exactly what to do and what her body was telling her.” Severus pulled her to him in a hug and looked over at his daughter and her new family. Seeing a blue and a pink blanket let him know that he had a grandson and a granddaughter. Smiling a rare smile, he caught Nicole’s eye.

“Father, come look. They’re perfect,” she said. Draco never took his eyes off of them.

Severus and Emily made their way over to the bed to see the two new lives lying there in their mother’s arms. After several moments of silence, Healer Davies spoke up, “So, have you thought of names yet?”

“Perseus and Cassiopeia,” Draco said softly. “Our two favorite constellations,” he added.
