Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. I make no money from writing this here story. |
Note: Okay so... Sorry for late updates on this. I was in the hospital for a week, and I just got out a few days ago. Being that I'm a bit (okay, more than a bit) of an insomniac, it's taking a serious toll on me, and to be honest, I really don't even remember writing most of this story. However, I'm more than fairly certain after re-reading it, that I know what I want to happen with it. Updates will be slow, as I've been instructed to try to sleep as much as I can. I don't know if it will be possible for me, but... We'll see?
ChaosLady, you are absolutely right about Molly and Arthur not being the original members. I guess I may have decided to use them, just for the connection of Hermione knowing them in the future, so sorry to disappoint on that aspect of things. I tried to keep close research on these subjects in this story just to make it legit, but I failed with that one. I apologize.
On another note, thanks to each and every one of you who has reviewed / rated :)
It was late when Severus arrived back at Hogwarts. Nearly four a.m. to be exact. He hoped that Hermione hadn't been too afraid for his whereabouts, as he knew she would be keeping a keen eye on the Map until his return. A pang of stabbing guilt rose inside of him, having not told her he was leaving, but he knew it was much easier than trying to explain himself. Hermione, without a doubt, would have been adamant for him not to go it alone.
As he descended the steps to the Astronomy Tower with what he hoped with all his might was the correct book, he knew he was fortunate to be alive. If he had been discovered,... He shuddered at the thought.
Being that every other room in Malfoy Manor seemed to be much larger than the last, it was a miracle that he found anything that came close. It was finally the cellar, in which he found the diary. From Hermione's memories, he deduced that in her time, the cellar had been empty and used only for holding purposes. Though, obviously, in the year 1977, it was used for storage. It wouldn't be til some years later when Lord Voldemort would order it to be cleared out.
Severus' thoughts were soon interrupted by the sound of a soft purring coming from behind as he trudged quietly as possible to the Dungeons. He stalled his pace and looked down as a familiar, now very large purple cat began brushing himself, lovingly against his legs.
"Lotus," he whispered, bending down to pick up the animal. "what are you doing out and about?"
"Coming to meet you, I suppose." a distressed voice came. Severus nearly startled as Hermione rounded the corner, looking livid, tired, and worried, all the same.
"Hermione, I-"
Hermione held up a quieting hand, "Severus... I know that you're intelligent beyond your years, and brave to boot, but... You had me worried sick. Please tell me that... You know... It hasn't,-"
"No," Severus shook his head. "No. It was not my intention to do that. Just yet... Please... Can we go somewhere?"
Hermione nodded, and the three of them, Lotus included, made their way to the seventh floor where they would seek refuge in the Room of Requirement. Once inside, Severus wasted no time pulling the small diary from his pocket. Hermione's eyes widened as she clapped her hands over her mouth.
"Please... Tell me this is the right one..." Severus gave her a hopeful look as he handed it to her.
Slowly, she reached out and took it, taking time to thumb through it. Her eyes scanned over the seemingly blank pages, and much to Severus' relief, she nodded. "Yes... It's most definitely it. So that's where you were... You went to Malfoy Manor..." she said quietly. "Was anyone there?"
Severus shook his head. "No. I didn't see another soul. I entered through an open window and searched the place, literally, top to bottom."
Hermione nervously bit her bottom lip as she scanned through the diary again. "Please tell me you replicated it, and put it in it's place."
"Of course I did, do you think I'm daft?" Severus exploded, making Hermione wince. She held up her hands, "No, I don't think you're daft, Severus. That's the farthest thing from what I think of you. Just... I'm sorry, but I just needed to be sure." she added quietly, before depositing the diary into her bag.
"No, I should apologize. It's been a long, nerve-wracking day, and I'd really like to sleep." Severus stepped forward and gently wrapped his arms around Hermione, burying his face in her hair. "I'm sorry, Hermione. I was afraid I wouldn't make it back to you, had anyone been there."
Hermione closed her eyes, hugging him close. "Don't be sorry. You have no reason to be. I'm glad you're safe." Slowly, she drew away, stopping when he placed his cold hands on her cheeks. In the dim lights, she could see his dark eyes glinting with some unknown emotion. It was a look she had never seen before. Something like fear, praise, relief and a deep love mixed in one.
She stared into his eyes, and her breath caught in her throat as he slowly moved in closer to her. Hermione closed her eyes, prepared and eager to feel his lips upon hers, but Severus stopped.
"What's wrong?" she whispered, daring to open her eyes again.
Severus took a deep breath. "I realized something when I was out," his voice was barely audible in the vast room. "That my life, in your time... It was full of risks, and I never had time to love anyone. I never got close to anyone. Save for you. Had you been a constant in my life, you could have saved me, I believe. If I had let you. I want to let you."
Hermione's eyes filled with tears as she stared up into his and she nodded her understanding. "I'm not going anywhere, Severus... I'm not..."
"But you will," Severus shook his head. "You will one of these days, and though we're not sure when that will be... I don't want to waste any more time."
Before Hermione could say another word, Severus' lips were on hers. She moaned softly as she parted her lips, eager to let his tongue inside. A feeling of satisfaction and excitement burned through her as she reached up, tangling her fingers in his silky locks. It was just as she remembered it. Severus, in his older years had been such an intense and passionate lover, and it was proving to be no different now. He kissed her with such fervor, that he took even himself by surprise.
"We could get in so much trouble for this..." Severus whispered against her lips.
Hermione smiled. "I don't care." she whispered back. "I love you so much, Severus."
"I love you just as much, Hermione..."
Though it was his first time, Hermione couldn't get enough of the way he touched her. It was as if they had been meant for one another's body. Their coupling was fantastic. As expected. Though for both, it was a bit emotional due to his earlier sentiment that neither of them really knew when Hermione would leave. It could be soon, but it could also be when her soon-to-be-born self turned seventeen. It could be the very day she ventured back in time. No one really knew.
Severus held her close, cherishing her skin with his lips and hands, thoroughly enjoying the way her breathing sounded.
"Will you still love me in the future? After everything changes?" he asked her as he lovingly stroked her back.
"Oh, Severus... I can't help... but believe with all of me... that I was, and will be made to love... only you." she whispered between heated kisses. "Just you."

It was decided between Hermione and Dumbledore that they would wait to destroy the two final Horcruxes. Just in case there was any way that Voldemort would feel it when the last one shed the piece of his soul. It had been unknown to them if the dangerous Wizard was ever able to feel it when Nagini was finally destroyed, so they didn't want to take any chances. Needless to say, Albus kept them safely tucked away in a heavily warded box in his office.
Hermione felt extreme relief, knowing that all of the Horcruxes were destroyed, or in their possession. They had all taken the most extreme cautionary measures, but there was still the fact that Severus would be joining the dark group of followers after the year was out. She just wished there was another way.
Sirius of all, was still rather doubtful. Another meeting between the three Marauders, Lily, Severus and Hermione in the Room of Requirement had illustrated this quite well.
"How do we know that when he joins that group of complete nutters that he's not going to give away the fact that you have the pieces of his soul!" Sirius roared, scowling darkly at Severus. The two had begun to get along, given Hermione's many requests and claims that for them to be a union rather than at eachother's throats was better for everyone. Yet, Padfoot still had his doubts, and given the memories he'd witnessed in the Penseive, no one could really blame him for it. Save for Hermione.
"Sirius... I swear you are just incorrigible. You always have been. Given everything that Severus knows, I really don't believe that he will do anything of the sort! He doesn't want anything to happen to Lily. Do you, Severus?" Hermione glanced at the dark young wizard who was oddly seated next to James. He shook his head, glancing at the redhead he'd always adored. "Of course not." he said finally, earning a small smile of appreciation from Lily.
"Well, I for one will believe it when I see it!" Sirius continued to banter. "On another note," he went on loudly, "What are you two planning to do for Christmas break? James, Lily, Remus and I are going to the Potter's."
Being that it was the beginning of December, Hermione was shocked she hadn't given this much thought. Where would she and Severus go? Being that he was to join... them, they couldn't risk being seen out and about together. No more than they had already been before the year began. No, they would have to play it off like Hermione was only a summer fling for Severus.
"I suppose we're staying here." she shrugged after mulling it over. "It's safer that way."
"Well, I for one still think he's a fucking git for joining them. There are other ways to go about this." Sirius grumbled, shooting Severus another dark look.
"Oh?" Severus raised a brow, sitting up a little straighter. "And what ways would those be, Black? By some chance meet him in a market and poison his fucking carrots? Honestly, I didn't think you were that daft, but then again..."
Severus trailed off as they all looked round to Hermione who seemed to have collapsed in a fit of shaking laughter.
"What?" he asked, feeling rather amused at the sight. "What's so funny?"
"Poison his carrots... Oh..." Hermione groaned, holding her stomach due to the stitch caused by her violent laughter. "Other than that," she pointed a finger at Sirius, "You care about Severus."
"What?!" Sirius and Severus both demanded incredulously, as Sirius abruptly rose from his seat. "No I bloody well don't!"
Lily and James joined Hermione in her laughter while Remus sat still as ever looking as though he was about to fall asleep. "Oh, yes you do, Sirius. Why else would you care so much to say that there are other ways to go about this?" Hermione laughed, gasping for air. It wasn't so much the sentiment that was making her laugh, but the look that was plastered on both their faces.
"Fuck you, Gaines. Brilliant as you are, you really are a cock sucker." Sirius laughed heartily at his own insult. "Oh, I kill me."
------
It was finally Christmas morning, and Severus had a surprise for Hermione. Being that everyone in their house beside the two of them had gone home for the break, they decided to sleep in the common room together. The pesky cat was so possessive over Hermione and Severus both, that he demanded to sleep between them, but it was no matter. To Hermione, Lotus was like a kind of symbol of the two of them. Like a large, fluffy, purple child.
As always, Severus woke before her, and he gently shook her awake.
"Hermione... Hermione..."
Hermione slowly opened her eyes, hearing Severus softly calling to her. She turned on her back, looked up at him and smiled. "Good morning." she greeted him.
"Good morning." he repeated, handing her a small black box.
Hermione's eyes widened, taking in the velvety texture of it. "Severus... You know we can't get married yet." she teased him. Severus rolled his eyes, urging her to take it. Hermione did so, and she smiled brightly when she opened it.
Inside was a large silver heart-shaped locket. "Open it." he told her, excitedly. Hermione grinned at his happy demeanor and opened the charm with a gentleness, as if afraid of breaking it. Inside of it, was a picture of her and Severus holding Lotus when he was just a tiny ball of fur.
"Oh, Severus... I love it." she said. Her voice barely a whisper, as she ran her fingers over the moving picture.
"I'm glad" he said, kissing her on the cheek.
"How did you become so thoughtful?" Hermione giggled, playfully nudging him with her shoulder.
Severus heaved an exaggerated sigh. "I suppose you just bring out the best in me, Hermione Granger."
Hermione suddenly jumped up. "I'll be right back." she beamed before rushing to the girls dormitory to rifle through her bag. "I really need to clean this thing out.." she thought to herself as she rummed the seemingly endless depths for Severus' gift.
After a few moments of searching, she pulled the desired object from the bag and looked it over. In all fairness, it wasn't something that he could really use for anything important, but she figured that he would appreciate it. The idea came from the very bottom of her soul. From her love for him.
Nervously, Hermione emerged from the dormitory and approached Severus who was patiently waiting as he stroked the large cat who was curled up beside him, purring loudly. It sounded as though there was a marble rolling around inside of him. Or several.
"I hope you like this.. Er... It's not something you can use but,-"
"Hermione, I will like anything you give me." Severus reassured her with a small smile.
She brought the gift out from behind her back and handed it to Severus. It was a bouquet of black and white roses. To her surprise, he took it quite graciously and looked them over with much approval.
"They won't die." she told him as she took a seat next to him.
"They won't?"
"No." Hermione shook her head. "I enchanted them to stay this way." she smiled, pointing to the card attached to the red ribbon binding them all together.
Severus gently turned the card over and read: "To my dearest Severus, I promise you, my love for you will never die as long as there is still breath in me. A symbol of my everlasting. - Love Hermione.' That is very sweet of you, Hermione. Truly." he told her, honestly feeling quite touched by the words, and the gift as a whole.
"I'm glad you like it." she smiled, gently running her fingers through his long locks.
"I do. Very much. And, it's also something I can put in your face when you later deny me." he smirked at her. Jokingly of course.
"Why would I ever deny you?" she shook her head. "If I'm still around when I become of age, I'll slap myself my er... self... If I somehow deny you. God, that's weird." she laughed, burying her face in her hands.
"Indeed it is. You sound as if you've gone around the twist." Severus shook his head as he grabbed hold of her hand, giving it a squeeze. "You know... I may not be able to see you after I join them. I mean... Not as often as I'd like to. It would have to be in complete secrecy. That is... Until I can get alone with him. Fuck, that might take a while."
Hermione nodded in understanding. "I know." she sighed heavily. "I really wish you didn't have to do this, Severus. You still don't have to... We'll figure it out,-" she trailed off as Severus feverishly shook his head, abruptly standing from the sofa. Hermione watched as he began pacing in front of her.
"I've been approached by Mulciber on many occasions. I'm trying to remain in good with the Slytherins who will no doubt, become Death Eaters. He asked me if I was still keen on the Dark Arts, and I told him I am just to sate him. Apparently He is recruiting new followers every day, and the initiation sounds... painful. However, being that I am gifted in Potions, more so than any other subject, to be fair... Perhaps, I won't have to kill at all to be initiated." Severus paused, glancing sideways at Hermione who seemed to be listening intently.
"What do you mean? How would you not be required to kill?" she asked, fidgeting with her fingers. She hated the idea of Severus becoming a murderer at such a young age. It was never recognized in his older years, whether or not he was ever required to kill. Hermione was still uncertain of it. The only person ever known to have been killed by Severus, was Albus.
"What I have in mind, is offering my services to Him as a Potion brewer, and a creator of lethal spells. Both can prove to be long and tedious tasks, but I am willing to do what ever it takes to see this through."
Severus sighed and sat down beside Hermione, not really sure of how this tiring subject came up, yet again. It was Christmas, for Merlin's sake. "I don't want to talk about this any more."
Hermione giggled at his sudden proclaimation. "You brought it up. Not I." she said, giving him a gentle nudge.
Severus shook his head. "Can we just go back to sleep or something? I'd like to hold you. For a bit." the smile he gave her spoke a thousand words. It was obvious, that as the months progressed and neared the end of the school year, he was growing more and more anxious, but he had mastered being able to hide his nervousness.
Hermione gratefully obliged and laced her fingers with his as they laid down, and he possessively placed his arm around her. She shivered as he gently kissed her shoulder while Lotus curled up at their feet. "I hope it works..." he whispered, drawing his arm tighter around her, just before the comfortable position lulled them both to sleep.
