Chapter 14
I'm In Your Corner
Hermione woke in the bedroom, after a short fitful sleep she'd fallen into after crying herself dry, realizing only two hours had passed since Ron had left. She was at a loss for what to do. Being in a Wizarding house meant she had no telephone with no way to ring her parents, no way to cancel the party that was still set to go on and she had of course not thought to bring an owl with her.
Feeling hopeless, she rolled over in bed, looking out over the balcony, seeing a black spot grow closer and closer until she realized it was an owl.
As the owl crossed the estate grounds, she realized it was none other than Draco's eagle owl, and she took the proffered note from its' leg as it landed on the bed, curious as to what Draco had to say.
I heard what happened - that ginger bastard showed up at my office accusing me of being your lover.
I taught that git a lesson and tossed him out. He insults you again and I'll Avada him myself.
The party is cancelled. I took care of all the details.
I'm with your parents now, and I'll be along to collect you a few hours after you get this owl.
Your mum says to let her know what you want - do you want them to come there? Do you want to come home?
Just owl your reply back and I'll see you soon.

P.S. Granger, I'm in your corner. Don't worry. For what it's worth, I think you made the right choice. If there's water where you are, take a walk. I always find a walk near water clears my thoughts.
Grabbing a pad from the bedside drawer, Hermione scrawled as fast as she could:
Mum and Dad,
I'm so sorry. I'll explain when I get home.
I'll travel back with Draco from here.

Hermione tied the note to the waiting owl and watched it leave, wishing it a safe and speedy journey.
She sat back into the mountain of pillows and sighed deeply. Hermione honestly felt cheered at Draco's note. She was sorry that Draco had been the target of Ron's misplaced anger, but if anyone could handle it, it was Draco.
Looking out back, she could see the estate was set on a large lake, and she grabbed her jumper and headed downstairs. A walk would do her good, and she'd head home with Draco when he arrived.
