Chapter 14
“Do I want to know what you're doing?” Bill chuckled as he slid into the seat by Harry. After ordering his standard drink, he glanced over at the mass of handwritten parchments spread all over the table. These didn't look like anything that would come with standard paperwork or official type business whatever. It was a little odd as he hadn't seen Harry tend to any of the paperwork for the club anyway and assumed Sirius did most of it.
“Nothing fun,” Harry chuckled after taking a sip of his butterbeer. With a shake of his head, he explained, “Since Sirius is in the back sending off our order for the weekend, I'm shifting this mass onto one parchment so we can sort it from there then figure out what we need to get rid of or add. Nothing too taxing, honestly, but we need to get it done.”“Understood,” Bill nodded, still eying what was there. “I hope I'm not interrupting.” Though it was close to the weekend, a time he knew was busy for the two, they usually weren't occupied enough that he and Charlie coming in disturbed their work.“Not at all,” Harry assured him, corralling all the papers into a pile. “This isn't anything we have to get done right off. Once I get it onto one sheet, we have a ton more work to do so it's ready for what we need, so this is just the start.”After taking a sip of his butterbeer, Harry shrugged and explained, figuring Bill was curious and it wasn't a huge secret, “We need to hire some new floorwalkers as we're getting busy enough that we're having problems with some areas. What we need is a manual of sorts to give them so they know what they need to keep watch for, at least basically. Sirius and I are going to take over during the busiest of times, but we need more than just us. On top of the manual, we're going to send them to the lecture program we have so they understand what's what and the rules people should follow. It's the ones that seem to ignore some of them that are a problem.” The last part was delivered with a sigh and roll of his eyes.“You have a lecture program?” Bill asked, highly curious about that if they did have one. “Not something I knew.”“Twice a month on Mondays,” Harry nodded. “They run it for us,” he said, cocking his thumb over to the other side of the club to indicate those they hired to tend to it. Before Bill could ask, he explained, “It's for ones that are curious about the lifestyle, mostly. Though there are some that come in like writers, journalists and others. It's not the end all be all about it, but gives the basics and facts that are correct, not the BS that is touted in magazines, books and the like. If they want to know more, the guys will then point them to sources or mentors. We like having it as it gives out the right information and makes it clear what is and isn’t allowed. Too many read something or other, usually some piece of smutty trash that has it all wrong, then come in and realize that they'll not only get in trouble for stepping over some lines that they didn't know existed, but have no clue what's going on. This way we can refer them to something so they know what they're getting into and give them the basics so they understand.”Bill took that in then gave a slow nod, wondering if there was a way for him to take that class without it looking odd. “I didn't realize you had a class on it or that it's so complicated.” He admitted, though he was getting an inkling of how involved it was from what he read.“It's complicated, trust me,” Harry chuckled and grinned. “There are very strict set rules for parts, though not as many for others and you can do what you want. Well, and you keep in mind the three governing words; safe, sane, and consensual. Those are the biggies and some coming in who have no foundation for whatever, especially wannabe Doms with no experience, need to learn them or someone ends up plenty hurt.”“Didn't realize that either,” Bill admitted, now more curious about the class and if he could wiggle his way into it without Harry and Sirius knowing.“It's involved,” Harry grinned. As he took another sip of his drink, he looked over at the bar. Brandon, one of the pros they hired, was standing there watching them, though trying to make it look like he wasn't. Harry knew this was because Sirius got with all of those on the other side to keep watch during times they weren't busy, so he gave the man a thumbs up. As the ones on the other side didn't pay much attention to what went on over here, they might not know Bill and Charlie, or that they were just friends, so no danger. Once he saw Brandon nod and seem to relax, Harry leaned back.Of course, Bill saw the signal and understood it meant something, but was confused. “Do I want to know?” He asked, wondering what it was about, though he didn't think anything was wrong over it.“Nothing to worry about,” Harry assured him with a tiny grin. “The guys are keeping an eye over here when they have time until we can get some new floorwalkers. We've had a few idiots try something with collared subs and slaves, though they aren't supposed to. It's been an increasing problem, in fact. We finally decided to hire more and have the guys watch when some wannabe Dom tried with me the other night. Rather upset Sirius.”“If I know Sirius about half as well as I think I do, 'upset' is probably a mild word for it,” Bill laughed, envisioning what happened.“Well, true,” Harry agreed, grin growing. “It's not the first time, though it's growing worse with some. The same with some of the subs trying with Doms when it's clear their attentions aren't welcome. More than one has given it a shot with Sirius.” With a sigh and a shrug, he added, “Honestly? Some of the other clubs in our world don't hold to the rules. Hellfire comes to mind. It's rather anything goes. So, if the idiots come in here with only knowing that one, they just go like normal. It's not welcome here. Brandon,” he said, gesturing to the one at the bar, “isn't familiar with you and Charlie because he doesn't pay much attention to what goes on over here. We'll fill him and the others in to let them know you're just friends, not on the prowl. Then they won't worry about keeping an eye on you.”“Good,” Bill nodded, more at ease over it. “Trust me, neither of us would be that foolish. Not only is there the relationship there to start with, no chance in hell either of us would want Sirius pissed at us over it.”“True, that,” Harry laughed, leaning back. “Something else they don't know either. Sirius will explain it to them, don't worry. They won't worry about either of you after he's done. Well, they'll probably keep an eye on you so some fool doesn't give it a shot with you, but that's all. Since you both tend to stick close to the two of us, it's not a real concern. Especially since you don't come in when we're busiest.”“I'm not really sure we want to see what goes on when it's really busy, Harry,” Bill snorted, grinning. “We've seen enough when it's not that's almost right traumatizing. Like the fisting that one night. I'm sure Charlie had nightmares over that bit.”“You get used to it,” Harry laughed. “Though I can see how some would be. There's still a few bits I can't watch and sure as hell wouldn't ever want to try, trust me.”Bill was about to respond when he spied Sirius. He was talking to the guy at the bar then headed their way with some food. Once Sirius took a seat, he nodded to him then asked, grinning a bit, “So, am I good with them and won't end up watched like a hawk?”“You're fine,” Sirius laughed, sliding close to Harry and putting the food out, making sure the papers were out of the way. “I explained to him about you and Charlie, so he won't worry about either of you. They're just going to make sure no one bothers the two of you when you're around. It's not been a problem up until now, but we're still having an ever growing issue with some arseholes, so I want to make sure you're not harassed.”“Much appreciated,” Bill nodded and was. They hadn't had any problems since coming in, but you could tell by the looks some wanted to give it a shot. No, that wouldn't end up comfortable for either him or Charlie. After settling back with a groan, Sirius slipped an arm around Harry's shoulders and took a sip of his own drink. “Just relaxing tonight?”“Wanted to get out for a while,” Bill admitted honestly. While that was true, he was hoping to pick up on some hints to see how accurate what he read was. Either that, or if he could get some info in another way that might give him a shove where to look that was correct on it. “Harry was just telling me about you hiring some new help.”“Going to try anyway. It's not as easy as with most places. First is what goes on here, obviously. Many would have a fit as we're not well known. Other places that are have issues because of it. So, we're having to go about it an odd way. Ones that work here are going to put out feelers to some they know once we have everything we can set up. We'll see what we can net with that if they manage. If it doesn't, we might have to look at customers, though none of us want to go that route unless forced.” Sirius explained with a sigh, shaking his head.“Normally, you can grab friends who either need a job or know people that do. With this business, that’s not something we can do,” Harry tossed out there with a snort. “You and Charlie are it when it comes to knowing other than a couple others who there is no chance with. Not seeing you giving up your jobs to take one here.”“Very true,” Bill admitted with a chuckle. However, after he did, there was a small niggling. While he did want to learn about this 'lifestyle', as Harry called it, he could also use the extra money. If it wasn't more than a day or so a week and he could work around visitation, he might be able to manage.“What kind of hours and days are you looking at?” Bill asked, thinking it over and wondering if he could manage. If it wasn't too many, he might be able to arrange something.Though he shot a curious look at Harry, Sirius told him, “Mostly, it'll be weekends, though we'll need someone here and there during the week, especially for bits like the approaching full moon. It'll depend. The weekend is the big one, though. Starting at about eight at night and pressing on until close. We're generally packed then.” After explaining, he asked, “Why? Do you know someone?” He didn't think so, but was wondering.“Me,” Bill said with a snort and grin. “Look, not my thing, you know this, but I could use the extra money, honestly. Even if I can get the job at the Ministry, every little bit is going to help as I'll be supporting not only myself, but Fleur and our daughter until she can get a job. Even if I get paid better, that's going to end up a huge struggle. If I could adjust hours to work around what I have or will get if I get the Ministry job and my visitation, I would take it on.” Then he stopped and grinned before adding, “Just so you don't want me involved in that,” he then gestured to the other side. “I could easily sit over here and keep watch. Sounds rather like being a bouncer, something I could easily do.”“It's a bit more complex than that as you have to know some areas and learn what to look for,” Sirius told him honestly, though he was already keen on the idea. “Tell you what; think it over. We can work with the hours as long as we have a body, honestly. As we know and trust you, we won't have to dance through some of the same shite, just make sure you know what you have to. Think it over and if you're interested we'll talk again. Just make sure you know what you're getting into, Bill. You've only seen a small fraction of what goes on and haven't come in during the busiest of times. You might want to do that to make sure you can handle it. Just stay here and sit with the two of us if you want to during one of those nights to see if you can take it.”“We have one of the lectures this Monday,” Harry tossed out there, looking between the two. “If you want, sit in on that. We'll get the fees waved for you. That will cover almost all of it then you'll get some foundation before you sit in and see one of the really busy nights.”Oh, Bill loved that idea! It was perfect to get not only the info he wanted, but see if he could take on the job. If they could work around his hours and visitation, he would do it. The extra income would make things far easier, that's for damned sure. “If you want to set that up, I'll go ahead. I assume it's not like an eight hour course or something seriously involved with homework or such.”“Three hours long and done here as we're closed,” Sirius told him. “I'll get it set up tonight and leave you the specifics at home, don't worry. Just—if you can't, you can't. We won't get upset, I promise. This isn't for everyone and we've seen the look on your face at some of what you've encountered.”“Let me see what they bring up and I'll let you know,” Bill assured him, thinking this might be a good idea. “If I can, I'll get with you at home sometime next week.”“Of course, if you know someone else that might be interested in the job, let us know,” Harry tossed in, looking amused as he didn't think so. One never knew, though, as everyone had those odd friends that were into strange areas.“Talk to Charlie,” Bill suggested, looking between the two. With them settling down, his brother might want something to keep himself occupied. Besides, if they both wanted to dip their toes into this, it was the best way to learn. Charlie might end up interested and like it, he never knew.“We didn't think either of you would be interested, honestly,” Sirius told him, shifting around, pleased with the conversation. Hell, if they could get these two, even every other weekend, he'd be damned happy as they weren't the kind to cause issues. “Your names came up when we were trying to think of someone, but only because you knew about the place, nothing more than that. We just weren't going to bring it up.”“Normally I wouldn't, honestly, but the money is a pressing problem,” Bill admitted. “Let me talk to Charlie. If I'm going to sit on the lecture, he might as well to see what he thinks. Not a big thing, I don't think. It's not as though you two are asking us to cook, clean, tend bar, whatever. I'll bring it up to him tonight and see what he says.” He liked that idea as it would give him and his daughter time alone so she wouldn’t suspect anything between him and her uncle. Charlie might find it amusing, honestly, and it would give him something to do that would get him out of the house.“We'll let you do that,” Harry nodded. “Just leave us a note at home if you don't see us before then and we'll set up the lecture for him as well if he wants to give it a go.”“I will. Will get with him tonight when we get home and will get his leanings,” Bill assured him. After shifting around into a better position, stretching out his legs with a sigh, he began asking a bit about what went on over the weekends so he had at least a tiny feel for what to expect. While he did want to visit over one of them, this upcoming one was out because of his daughter. He planned to give it a go the following one to see what he thought.
“Yeah, I'll go to the class with you,” Charlie said as he sat up after listening to what Bill had to say. “Not only does it sound interesting, but the job might be a good idea. Extra Galleons is a good idea if we can make them. This—it doesn't sound real stressful either, honestly.”
“My thoughts,” Bill nodded, flopping down in the chair and stretching out his legs, crossing his ankles. Lacing his fingers behind his head, he added, “I compared it to a bouncer and they agreed it's close, though with some other bits added in. Both of us could handle that, easily. After all, we're big enough that we can cut an intimidating presence if we have to. Most wouldn't tangle with us in school for that reason.”“Good point and one I didn't think about,” Charlie admitted. “We might be a tad more intimidating now as well. Both of us are plenty scarred up for various reasons. It adds to the effect, honestly.”“True, that,” Bill conceded, thinking about what was on his face. Most would be able to guess where those scars came from and would give him a wide berth because of it and the bunk associated with werewolf attacks. It could only help matters. “I'll leave a note for Sirius and Harry that you're interested and want to sit in on the class as well. Once we do, we'll see if we can manage then go from there.”“The seeing what goes on is a big bit, Bill,” Charlie told him honestly, stretching, arms over his head, fingers locked together. “We've seen some bizarre shit when we've been in and I'm damned sure it's not the worst of what goes on. Not sure if I can handle some of it.”“I did mention that,” Bill told him. “That's why they want us to pop up on weekends to see what we think and get an idea of what goes on. However, we'll be focused on the other side and not where the action is. It might make it easier.” With a shrug, he added, “Harry told me there are some bits he doesn't handle well himself. Not sure what they're into completely, but I'm sure there is plenty strange. If we focus where we're working and not on the action, we should be fine.”“There is that thought,” Charlie nodded, slumping after his stretch. Conjuring a chair across from Bill and flopping in it, he crossed his legs then said, “It's something to consider. You have the kid this weekend, so I might pop in and see what I think. Then I can pass along whatever to you. I won't stay the whole time, but enough to get an idea.”“I'll give it a shot next weekend if you don't do the whole freakout bit,” Bill grinned at him, stretching his leg out and giving Charlie a poke with his foot. “Then we can decide. Well, after that class anyway. Even the class itself should be interesting. My understanding is that it's just the basics. No chance they can get into everything there is in the time span of it.”“Will give us a foundation anyway,” Charlie nodded. Then he snorted and laughed, “And you ideas, I'm sure.”“Probably,” Bill conceded with a grin himself. “It'll also make it to where we understand what we read better and see if it's right. My take on it was the one teaching it, lecturing, whatever you want to call it, knows it because he's involved in the whole scene, not someone that just researches and writes about it. Those are always the best kind of instructors to have.”“True!” Charlie grinned back. “Right, you go leave the note for the two and I'll plan on this. We'll just have to make sure not to mention it to mum or dad. Not sure if they know what the two own, and I sure as hell do not want to explain it to them when mum asks!”“Yeah, that wouldn't end well,” Bill told him, scratching his chin, shoulders shaking. “We'll come up with something that isn't a lie, don't worry.”After standing with a groan, Bill leaned over and gave his brother a passionate kiss before heading out to leave the other two a note.As he walked downstairs, he couldn't help but grin a little. This—yeah, it could end up most interesting! Not only was he sure to learn the information he wanted to know, because if they took the job he could ask Harry and Sirius without them thinking it was off, but pick up on plenty he was sure the two of them would like. Then he would get with Charlie to see what they wanted to try out. Hell, as far as he was concerned, watching some of it was far better than those mags you could get in adult stores. Though the pictures in them were good and moved, you could tell they were posed. What they saw when they went in the club wasn't. It was done because all involved liked it and it wasn't rehearsed. That was far more arousing than any moving picture he had ever seen. After leaving the note for the two and heading back up to their floor, he made a mental note to remember to be cautious about showing something that might give away not only his leanings towards this bit, but what was going on with Charlie. Sirius and Harry were fairly nonjudgmental, what with the club and all, but he didn't want even a hint. Which meant that as the full moon approached each month, he needed to keep his urges under control so no one would guess anything was off. That was hard and he knew it, but he could manage, and would.
